Shogun is a fun experience!! They are pricy but you pay for the show!!! I usually get the teriyaki chicken!! I love the flavors it gets on the grill. The veggie plate is even great !!! The staff is friendly and it's really fun if you have a birthday here. But if I'd hard to have a conversation it's a little noisy and there is so much going on. The sushi is really good ! Love the California rolls. I'm not too adventurous with the raw sushi. Lunch is reasonable is you order sushi and soup in their sushi bar area!!! Overall fun experience!! I eat here about once a week. Having eaten at Wasabi and Oyummy a few times, I have made my decision that this is hands-down the best place to get sushi in Lincoln. The fish is always fresh, and the chefs clearly know what they are doing. I'm not a big fan of sushi rolls (I prefer the nigiri and sashimi), but the rainbow roll here is amazing. Don't waste your time at Wasabi or Oyummy; if you want some fresh sushi made by real sushi chefs, you need to try Shogun. I can't speak for the grill side of the restaurant (with all the fancy chefs throwing around food, etc), because I only come here for sushi. read more

We were in Lincoln on business over the lunch hour and decided we wanted sushi. Being from Omaha, our favorite sushi place is, without a doubt, Blue. We decided to try Shogun, and visited around 1pm with our two girls. The experience totally fell short and left us disappointed and broke. (just kidding, but it was seriously overpriced) We tried four different sushi rolls, edamame, and ordered the hibachi chicken with fried rice for our girls. I was pleasantly surprised when our extremely picky two year old actually ate the chicken, and our five year old loved the chicken and rice. This had a great flavor to it, although the chicken was a tad dry. As we ate in the sushi area, we did not experience the hibachi grill. The sushi rolls we tried were ok. They were not fantastic or out of this world, but we did find ourselves comparing it to Blue, which was probably unfair. The service was ... blah. We were the only table in the entire establishment, so slow service was not exactly expected. However, that is what we received. The server would deliver the food and disappear into the kitchen, leaving us waiting for him to decide to reappear before being able to ask for extra silverware, refills on drinks or more wasabi. It was annoying to say the least. Based on the reviews we read before picking Shogun, it seems as though the other options for sushi aren't that great in Lincoln, so this was the best of the worst. Next time we'll stick to sushi in Omaha and stay with good 'ol American food when visiting again in Lincoln. read more

Worst Shogun experience of our lives. This place is great on a non-holiday or busy evening.. don't get me wrong. However, my boyfriend and I called for a reservation for Valentine's Day on the Wednesday the 12th and signed up for 8 PM on Friday, the 14th. We showed up on Friday at 7:45 PM to a line all around the restaurant. We proceeded to ask if it was for reservations or not.. 99% of the people in line were there for a reservation. Fast forward to 8:30 and people that had a reservation at 7:30 still weren't up front. We finally got to check in and the reservation was completely pointless. The hostess was on the verge of a breakdown and it was a complete free for all for tables. "Who is waiting for 2?!" was what we heard as we started getting closer. There was absolutely NO POINT in getting a reservation as it was a complete free for all and people that were there for five minutes were jumping in front of families with babies with no care from the staff. Not only did we wait for an hour before we left, without ever being sat, we tried to get drinks at the bar multiple times. The bartender was moving at the pace of a snail and had no regard for the pace of the restaurant at the time. My boyfriend and I tried to wait in the bar line at least three different times while we were waiting for a table, each time at least ten minutes, and were never served. The bartender literally did not care about the capacity of the restaurant or his own pace of making drinks. At no point did a manager make a love to try and resolve the situation. Needless to say, the lack of care of any employees in a situation plus obvious disregard for customers won't bring us back any time soon. read more

My wife and I's favorite place in Lincoln for sushi. We've been to Fuji, Dozo, Kinja, Tokyo, and Hiro 88. The flavor and texture are superior at Shoguns. The remodel has made this place a lot more enjoyable. New uniform for the wait staff, New tables, New chairs, carpet was laid down. Which really helped with the noise from the Teppanyaki chefs. It has really been cleaned up. If you haven't been in awhile I suggest going back and experience the make over. read more

I went there today for sushi and, sadly, it wasn't that great. I wanted to avoid the spring game insanity or I would have gone to the amazing Hiro 88, and I went to Kinja last weekend and didn't want to be a creeper, but I wish I'd been a creeper. The California rolls weren't even cut evenly,though they were good. But the eel rolls...I hate sweet eel sauce and that was all over. The reason my review isn't a 2 star is because my caterpillar roll was screwed up and they gave me a new one. Still, the rolls were very sloppily done and I won't go to shogun again. read more

My family and I stopped here at 3:30 PM on 1/5/2020 to get a gift card. My father went inside, alone, and came out furious. As stated by an employee "The manager is a little burnt out right now and is taking a hour long nap. He's the only one that can get a gift card and he won't get up." I went to Shogun tonight for my cousins birthday dinner and we were seated right away which was good but then it took forever for the chef to come by. Also the chef knew which girls birthday it was because she was literally wearing a sash that said "it's my birthday" yet he told everyone except her "happy birthday". Going to a fun entertaining place for dinner such as a hibachi restaurant you would expect a little more interaction especially for a birthday meal. The whole chef interaction only lasted about 15 minutes max which you might expect in a drive thru but not when you want a nice meal. Felt very rushed and not personal at all. Also steamed rice is free with a meal but fried rice is extra which I found strange, but I found it even more strange that I didn't receive my steamed rice. No waiters came by during our whole meal which was frustrating. Multiple of us had empty drinks for a majority of our meals. When the waiter finally came by after we were finished eating I asked for my rice and he said "Do you still want it"? I said "Yes" so then it took another 15 minutes. before I even got my rice. When it came to payment I paid in cash and they kept the change expecting it was for a tip. I thought that was very rude considering they already add a tip onto your total. I will NOT be going back. This Shogun's location was pretty shabby, the lights were dim so it was easy to ignore. The food was good, the service was fine. There were tv commercials playing today on a local station saying that they had a couple nights a week where kids eat free. The staff said that wasn't true and they were sorry we thought that. The desserts were not good, save your money and stop somewhere else for dessert. I don't know if Shogun's is a franchise or if it's just a common name for this type of restaurant, if it is a franchise someone from corporate should come to this location to see what they are doing to the name here. read more

Goodness gracious. I don't know, I have been to teppenyaki all over the place throughout the years and this to me was the worst. Just not good. It just was not good. The quality was low, service questionable, food yucky. Service wise, there was an effort so that was the highlight. I literally did not eat my meal and the gentleman who prepared our food was quite obviously very new at this craft. This will be our one and only (expensive) trip to this restaurant. It's really too bad though. You have the restaurant, the staff, etc. So make it wonderful! Why do anything less? This is a very typical experience for Lincoln dining, the bar is set so low that there is no impetus to make awesome food- the foodie scene has quite certainly yet to hit this area. My granddaughter picked Shoguns for her ninth birthday, so we made reservations. We did not receive our salads or soup. Had to ask waitress and she brought them as we were getting our meal. My granddaughter was looking forward to the volcano, egg toss and some of the other "tricks" that the cooks usually perform and there was none of those. He threw one piece of shrimp missing her by two feet and walked away. Three times I asked for fried ice cream. Waitress eventually brought the pineapple boat and took our picture, which we never received. We felt as they were in a hurry for us to leave. We took granddaughter gifts and went home. Upon returning home, I called and told them how disappointed we were. Told them that my granddaughter commented that the cook did not seem to like his job. Wife and I have been going for years (since back in it's 56th & Hwy 2 location). We took our two boys (12 & 4) the other day and were shocked by the cleanliness of this place. It was filthy. I've watched way to many episodes of Kitchen Nightmare to not start wondering, "If front-of-house is this dirty, what does the kitchen look like?" Restaurant was slow, but it was around 8 pm on a weeknight. Our service was terribly slow. The only bright spot was the chef. As always, he was entertaining. Shogun is a tepanyaki grill and sushi bar. The grill is a fun dining experience as they cook your meal in front of you. Its also a social experience because you're sitting at a table with as many as 12 people. Probably not the place to come for an intimate date night. The cooks put on an artistic show and prepare amazing veggie, shrimp, steak, chicken, and lobster entrees along with the best fried rice in town. The sushi is good, not great - but they definitely make up for it on the grill. Service is usually prompt and friendly. The decor seems to be lacking as with many Japanese restaurants - with cheesy statues and water fountains - but hey you can't win'em all! Definitely a place to check out! read more

We were seated super fast in the sushi area. Waitress and staff were super friendly. Especially the sushi chef, he kept asking if we were doing ok and liked the food. We made it in time for the happy hour sushi & appetizer specials, so that was a bonus. Miso soup was warm & delicious, house salad was bright and flavorful, pork gyoza was crispy and yummy and shrimp & veggie tempura was cooked to perfection. We started with 2 orders of California Rolls. $4 for 6 pieces, then we ordered 1 more Cali Roll & a Shrimp tempura Roll. Over all they were tasty and made fresh. My only complaint and why I didn't give 5 stars; is because the sushi rolls were TINY. The California Roll pieces were about the size of a quarter. So even during happy hour, $4 for 6 tiny sushi pieces is kinda crazy lol. With that said, we will definitely be back to try the Teppan-Yaki / grill side of the restaurant. It sounded pretty fun over there. And our search for a decently priced/sized sushi place will continue. read more

So yummy! We were seated right away as our food came equally quick. Everything on the hibachi grill was cooked and seasoned perfectly. We celebrated a birthday and they brought out a pineapple boat and little poppers. Our birthday girl loved it. An excellent experience all the way around. Well bottom line probably never going back. Allot of good reviews for the sushi, we ate at the grill. Had reservations on a Saturday night about 8pm. Wasn't super busy, but was full. The restaurant is kinda dirty and not kept up real well. I ordered the filet and shrimp. Meat was tough, and the shrimp were kinda rubbery. After the waitress brought our initial drink order couldn't beg her to come back had to go to the bar and tell them we needed drinks. The whole thing about cooking on the flat top in front of you, sure, that is why you go there. Two of us with a couple drinks and tip $90, pretty expensive for what we got. Wish I would of read the review about the miscalculated bill, would of looked at our a bit harder. Wasn't my choice for dinner. read more

We have only ever had one problem (with the food being bland and waitress being non existent and then spilling water all over me) but the owner apologized and gave us a $10 certificate to use when we go back. Good place for Japanese teppanyaki (where they cook in front of you on a flat top). They do a great job of entertaining you and have a decent selection. The fried rice is fantastic, I wish I could make it like that at home. They have Sushi as well, but the rolls do not seem very imaginative, mostly basic stuff and typical rolls. I also question the freshness of the fish, which is key to good sushi. Stick with the teppanyaki and you won't be disappointed. Great for families and birthdays. Honestly I have a hard time differentiating the two because they are so similar. Price is a bit high here, and it seems a little run down. Note: This place is very similar to Tokyo. read more

It's typical American hibachi/teppanyaki fare. If in Lincoln, I'm not aware of an alternative to this place, so unless you're willing to buck up and drive to Omaha, (you should it's so much better in every way), you're stuck with it. The servers are all awesome, though. read more

You go to Shogun for the show. You know how it works. Fiery volcano made of alcohol and onions. Crazy knife tricks. Egg based shenanigans. The throwing of shrimp. It's entertaining meal, and keeps you from having to talk to people while you are waiting for your dinner. I haven't been there since they moved, but I really haven't had reason to do so. At least in the only building, the food was always pretty good. The salad and soup are nice touches, and the ingredient quality is there. The downside is the price. 20 bucks for an Asian style chicken dish means you're paying a high price for food you can find elsewhere. Pros: Entertaining. Good tasting food. Cons: 20 bucks for Chinese-ish chicken? Be careful with kids! The grill is in the center of the table (within reach) and the fire based antics would scare some adults. read more
