I have never been so disappointed in any restaurant due to a change in ownership as I was tonight. My family has been going to this restaurant for at least 10 years and it has always been amazing but tonight both the food and the service were horrible. I asked for the Shogun special with fillet instead of Wagyu since they changed the menu. I don't like fatty steaks and they definitely did not give me a fillet because it was the fattiest steak I've ever seen. My sister got shrimp and asked for only mushrooms and her food was cold and they gave her normal vegetables. After the food arrived, they said that our waitress would be coming with the fried rice shortly, but the rice did not come until about 30 minutes after we had got our food so everyone was already done eating when our food first arrived myself in two others at our table, asked for sauce that usually comes with the food and it took about 10 minutes for them to bring a small dish of sauce and then they only brought two so my grandpa had to flag down someone else to get us sauce and he had to ask for like three people before he got a sauce. The food quality has definitely gone down and I'm honestly just extremely disappointed. This is the restaurant that we would always go to for celebrations like birthdays, graduations, and anniversaries but now I don't think we'll ever go again. read more

WORST experience ever. We had a large party so I'm assuming they felt overwhelmed, but that is no excuse for forgetting entrées. We had to tell them multiple times that different people of our party were missing their food. They even started to clean the grill when we mentioned two people were missing their chicken entrées so they had to go to the back and bring it back out and once they cooked it, you can tell they were irritated did it very quickly and it was still raw in the middle. We sat for 40 minutes asking for our check. Finally I had to tell them I was going to leave unless they brought it to me. Awful experience and disgusted by the food I will never return. read more

We made reservation for Friday Lunch. First time here. We waited a few minutes and were seated with another group. The waitress was friendly. She came over right away to take our drink orders. We didn't have to wait long for the chef to come. He was entertaining. My son enjoys it. The Chicken Fried Rice was $4.50 extra, which I didn't appreciate, although I knew that ahead of time. I think it should be included! The exhaust didn't seem to be very strong, as the smoke from the cooking kept blowing in my direction and there was not much I could do. The portion was smaller than another Teppan place we went to in Redlands. The salad was drowned in ginger sauce. They could have put a little bit less sauce in there. read more

One of La Vernes classic, always good food and fun environment. Israel was our Chef, cooked everything to perfection, gave us a fun show and took very good care of us. We had the Shugun special, which came with Ribeye, Lobster tail and shrimp. Had the fried rice and Miso soup and everything was delicious! Only reason i give this place a 4 star and not 5 is because of the timing. Got there at 7:15 put our names and waited for a table, we got seated at 7:40 which was fine, took our server around 20 mins to take our order, she was nice though, then took the cook another 30 mins to start cooking. We sat for an hour before our order was taken. The place wasn't even that busy and did not appear short staffed. Another 20 minutes before the chef came out, cooked food then he started cleaning the grill and we had to stop him because we were still missing three entrees. He had to go back in the kitchen several times to get the rest of the food. Disappointed food was just ok. Service was awful. Had to ask several times for them to take the empty soup and salad bowls to get them out of our way. Never did refill the drinks. Waited another 30 minutes to get the check. Have been to this Shogun many times but the last couple of times have not been up to par. Sadly, will not go back to this location, this was just too much. read more

We came here tonight to celebrate my stepson's high school graduation and stepdaughter's 16th birthday. We asked for reservations at 8:30 and were told that the latest reservation they had was 8 because their kitchen closes at 9. Fine. We made the reservation at 8. We arrived shortly before 8 and checked in. 50 minutes later! We get told that they'll seat us now after asking (for the third time) when we would be seated. And then we're told that we would have to order quickly because the kitchen would be closing soon. At that point we just walked out. Next time we'll just go to Tokyo Wako. read more

My family has been eating here for over 15 years and we hadn't gone in several months because the last time wasn't great. I'm SO sad that today was even worse than the last time. Food was burned and overcooked. It all came out at different times and seemed to take forever even for appetizers once we finally saw an employee come take our orders. They don't brew fresh iced tea anymore - all from a soda machine. Employees were nice but sparing at 4pm which never used to be an issue. It took forever for everything and 20 min after asking for something extra, we finally asked again when we saw someone walking by and were informed they'd have to charge because the curry they gave us was such a small amount but that's all they give. The burned food wouldn't be compensated on the bill at all. The music was SO loud and played teenage rock songs. This is NOT the Shogun we are used to and so disappointed. Won't be going back. Kishi in Upland is so much better and they are constantly checking on you to make sure everything is good because they care. 2 meals, 2 appetizers, and a sushi roll with iced teas and soda - $150. First time visitors. Came here with my family and 4 school classmates. We made lunch reservations and were seated immediately upon our arrival. This restaurant was very clean and well organized. A employee took our drink orders and within four minutes, we were enjoying cold beverages. Our food orders were taken shortly thereafter and our Chef arrived to our table with ten minutes. From this point forward, it was a show and our Chef prepared our meals in front of us and did so by adding comedy which was a great time. The lemon chicken, jumbo shrimp and numerous sushi rolls were very fresh and tasty. Food portions were HUGE as everyone in our party ended up full and and still had enough food leftover which required take-home trays. Beef carpaccio is very thick, not raw because it's been cooked on the grill. The quality of meat is poor, I can get lunch meat at the store that would taste better. Terrible with new ownership. arrived at 6 for reservations at 6, was told that they were backed up and would take 30-45 minutes by hostess. upon our 30 minute check in we were told to check back in 30 minutes and new development, they lost our reservation within the previous 30 minutes. The manager told us that they accidentally overbooked and could not figure out the reservation system. this location is no longer part of the chain as it was bought out and it shows. have been coming to this location since it opened and have never experienced something like this. family didn't want to take any chances on our christmas dinner so we drove to the pasadena shogun instead! So I called and asked for a take out order, I spoke to the young man (Brian) I ordered 2 Shogun dinners 1- Ribeye (Med Well), Lobster and Samurai Shrimp. The 2nd was Filet Mignon(Med Rare) Lobster and Hibachi Scallop's.. Brian repeated my order to perfection. I paid $138 for the 2 meals. Got home and well, both dinner steaks were over cooked, I did not get my scallops, I got shrimp. Fried Rice was cold, the vegetables were old over cooked. So the moral of the story never do take out here cause you get cheated. read more

I've been coming here, every few months, to dine-in, for many years now. The Shogun teppanyaki restaurants offer the best dine-in teppanyaki dinners that I've experienced. If you're debating between Benihana and Shogun, go with Shogun. At least speaking for the dine-in meals, not only is Shogun slightly cheaper, Shogun is also more generous with the portions, the meats are higher quality, and Shogun's fried rice is much better. Benihana's fried rice is dry. Shogun's fried rice is moist. When I come here, I either get the filet mignon, or ribeye, then add the "colossal shrimp," which is only about $5 more. Also, be sure to ask for their hot sauce; it taste great mixing it up in the fried rice. read more

There is always a fun atmosphere here. The prices are high. Ribeye steak with scallops is $42.00. This was my birthday dinner and I had waited a month to come. The service was mediocre. The server couldn't be bothered to bring us the essential utensils. The food was cooked well and tasted great. Thus is a fun place to have fun and enjoy family. Great for special occasions. Shogun tends to be our go to when celebrating something fun like a birthday. The grill area can get pretty crowded with a wait, highly recommend making reservations. The restaurant side usually isn't too bad for a weight. You can also order meals from the grill on that side. The servers are usually very friendly and attentive. The atmosphere on the dinner side is quiet. The grill side is usually pretty loud. They do have bean sprouts that they can grill for you if you ask, but they are not on the menu, and they are delicious. Are usually get the fillet and scallops with fried rice.
