I kinda made a little tradition of going to teppanyaki places when my kids were little to celebrate the end of the school year or promotions. The food is generally decent, but I don't go so much for the food, as I like the concept of a dinner and show for our celebration. So when my youngest had his 8th grade promotion, I found Shogun in La Verne that I made reservations for. I've been to the Pasadena location several times in the past so I am confident with their food and service. The La Verne location is in a big shopping plaza with plenty of parking. We arrived and were seated immediately. I guess our reservation time at 6:00 pm was early enough to avoid the crowds since there was hardly anyone there yet. FYI, there's a happy hour from 3:00 - 6:00 pm. Our server was great, he got us everything we needed and stopped by frequently to check on us. We each ordered a combo, and was so excited to see the "show". I don't know if our chef was new or what, but he was so soft spoken and not very enthusiastic about what he was doing. I couldn't hear anything he was saying and even the train whistle that he blew was so quiet. I clapped and cheered in the beginning to get him going, but he wasn't really engaging, so I was really disappointed. It was so boring. To top that off, our "yakisoba" that came with our meal was linguini noodles. Seriously? Can you get any less authentic? If Panda Express can get Chow Mein noodles in Alaska, you can get yakisoba noodles in SoCal.

What a treat! Came here for friend's son's bday. I've been to a hibachi but never like this. Menu is huge. Something for everyone. Many got the ribeye. One person got the lemon pepper chicken. I got the teriyaki steak. The fried rice was fantastic and they make a great miso soup. Really good quality meat and veggies. Generous portions. Chefs are fun and very talented. It's fun to watch them cook. Do yourself a favor and come.

They charged this one only 1 person.

I only ordered a glass of sparkling water instead of flat but they do have big size. And they bring the 16 oz s pellegrino for 1 person without asking. I said it is too big and asked them to change. But they said they have only 1 size and could not change it. They should ask me before ordering . I do not like their behavior they did charge it anyway. In the end, had to pay $6 for unfinished pelegriona.

Enjoyed our lunch here today. The staff continue to be attentive and professional. The portions are generous. You have to choose between soup or salad for the combos. I especially appreciated the grilled vegetables that accompany the lunch entrees and combos (mushrooms, onions, zucchini, bell peppers). Not crowded on a Tuesday lunchtime, plenty of parking, and booth/table seating inside. Lots of natural lighting.

Quality of the food, portion size and chef skills are excellent. There are places considerably closer to me but it is worth the drive

Service and food are getting worse and worse, esp. the restaurant hostesses are very rudely.

Ask the Community - Shogun Restaurant

Can you order sushi if you're at the teppan grill?

    Yes you can

    What is the lunch hours?

Hi! To my knowledge, lunch starts upon opening and ends at 3 PM. I frequent this location quite often so I'm 99% sure this is accurate information.

I have 2 adults and 4 kids plus an infant in our party. Total of 7, will you be able to accommodate all of us in one table or are you only able to have 6 per Covid guidelines?

I have a similar party size and have been accommodated for dine in at one table with no issue.

Do you sell you Teppan dipping sauces?

Yes they sell 16oz bottles as well and 2oz containers

Is there all you can eat sushi?

No Shogun doesn't have all you can eat. I'm not sure what restaurants are doing all you can eat due to COVID-19.

Are they doing teppan dining yet?

    Yes

I'd really like to know if they are using butter, margarine, or butter flavored Crisco in their cooking?

    Margarin
