Way back in the day (maybe around 2005) Sho Mi's was a pretty popular option for us broke college students. At the time, it was cheap, but fairly decent quality. At some point they switched owners, and this place has definitely gone downhill since. Prices have gone up since, and food quality has gone down, down, down. I didnt like my experience the first time I went here. I got some roll that claimed to have salmon on top. I was disappointed because not only was the taste not up to par, but the slices of salmon were seriously the thinnest I have EVER seen in a sushi place. it was almost see through!! So imagine how disappointed I was when my friend chose this place for dinner one night. But I decided not to let one bad experience hinder me from a possibly good dinner. Been coming here since the wee days of high school because it was the only Japanese restaurant that I knew of. haha I'm glad my knowledge has now expanded. This place is a mess during covid. No one is guiding any customers. It's basically a free for all. Had to stand in line 15 minutes just to ask what we are supposed to do as far as seating and was told we just had to wait for a table to be open and order inside so we waited and found a table. Then one waitress said we couldn't sit there because we didn't order yet so obviously we misunderstood what we were supposed to do but we could have gone with out the attitude she used to let us know. And not even 1 minute after that, another girl came and told us we couldn't do that so we offered to get up and she said no you're already there, this is for next time. And then standing right behind her literally waiting for this girl to be done talking at us was another girl who told us AGAIN we couldn't sit there. WE GOT IT. Way to make us feel unwelcome and like we broke the rules that weren't even clearly stated. After all that, wanting to just leave, we still ordered. And then noooo one checked on us after our lecture while all the other customers were being checked on around us. It took so long to get anything food or drinks, that tables around us were asking us where our food was. OMG this place is horrible from the beginning of time..I used to love this place when it was cracking in college, but dang..after so many owners..i think it's time for them to close down forever. I used to like the spicy shrimp eel roll, but it's crap now. The ckn curry is not even chkn majority of it is just batter..the tempura udon? what tempura? two small tempura shrimp is tempura udon? albacore vinegar and mixed sashimi was ok, not OMG good. My girlfriend and I made an online order and received a confirmation on our order. We ordered unagi hand roll and lion roll, however came home to an unagi sushi roll which is yes wrapped differently. When we went to go pay after picking it up, the price was different but we didn't question it much. They should've at least mentioned the change to us. I adore ShoMi because of their yummy rolls ! The prices are decent , depending on what you get . I usually get the more pricey rolls , since they're more appealing & i like to try new things . Usually when i go with the boyfriend , we order the Tiger roll , dragon roll , volcano roll , & pick a new roll just to tryy . The rolls always come out deliciouss , prompt , & with perfect presentationn . I must say , the eel is especially delicious , my favorite part of any roll . The service is lackingg whenever i go . I drink a lotttt of water , especially because of the volcano roll . & so my glass is alwayys empty for awhile , & i'll have to always ask them to refill it , because the waiter barely checks up on us . & sometimes we won't be able to find a waiter at all , & the boyfriend will have to go up to the chefs & ask for a refill . Guess what ? I actually revisited this place. We were next door at CVD and I was scrubby as hell and the sisters decided to have lunch here. So its been 6+ years and I have to say.... not much has changed. You still pay prior to seating although you can order additional items from the table. Its cash only, service isn't that great, food is still sub-par. I didn't even like the edamame. We had 2 rolls, one slightly deep fried that was decent and then a Sho Mi Roll which for a "signature" roll, is very bland and drenched in a mayo sauce diluted with vinegar. There was also tons of tiny fish roe all over these rolls. So much that I was still trying to get them out of my teeth long after we left this place. We also had a Hawaiian Poke Salad that was ehh... okay I guess. We also for some reason ordered some Unagi nigiri and I fondly remember this being one of the reasons why I never came back to Sho Mi. Because after trying it at CoCoRo years ago, the differences were incredible. The unagi we had here tasted like mush. No texture, no bite, no flavor except from the far too sweet sauce drizzled over. Nearly a decade ago Sho Mi was DELICIOUS...then they dropped off a bit....but now THEY ARE BACK. I never write Yelp reviews, but felt that I needed to due to so many negative reviews (most not very recent). Go to Sho Mi. Service is fast and friendly, the Sushi is awesome, and the Lunch specials are a great deal. Try the LOCO AMOR specialty roll. You will not be disappointed. Other rolls that are my favorite include the Top This roll, the Hot Night Roll, the Lomi Lomi Roll...and anything with Spicy Tuna, which Sho Mi has perfected, and it is so fresh! Seriously. It absolutely amazes me that this place continues to bring in business. We first went to Sho Mi years ago and thought it was a great gem in Stockton - decent sushi, affordable prices. Fast forward to 2010 - this place is a disaster. Thought we would give the place a chance on our way back from a ski trip and Sho Mi failed on every count. Here is how they failed. 1) They refused to honor a gift certificate from Restaurant.com (citing that the cert had expired). After me offering to call Restaurant.com and Restaurant.com "accepting" the certificate, the Manager proceeds to carry on a heated debate with me about how Restaurant.com really shouldn't be offering the gift certificates in the first place. Great. Dandy. If you firmly believe that Restaurant.com has screwed you over - bring it up to them. There is no reason why your customers, Shomi, should have to suffer. There we were a group of 6 adults and 3 kids, all hungry, the manager was still arguing over a very much valid $25 gift cert on a bill that was well over $150. Seriuosly?! 2. Service did not get better after the gift cert fiasco. Our drink orders were not brought out correctly. We were clearly eating family style, yet had to ask several times to get small plates. And the clincher - Plate after plate of sushi came out with no wasabi, no ginger. Zero. Zip. We asked TWICE to get wasabi at a japanese restaurant. Embarrassing. 3. Onto the food....there are hole in the walls that have crappy service but are redeemed by food. Not the case here! My husband, a normally mellow guy deems this the worst sushi he has ever had. This place has really gone downhill since the early 2000s. I remember before they expanded, it was really crowded and the line went out there door. I also remember California rolls under $4. I even went here for my Winter Ball my Senior Year, just because we all wanted the food. I was here at least twice a week, even coming twice in one day. Fast forward to now. I still come here but not as often as before - maybe only once a month or so. But whenever I go, I recommend the Chicken Katsu Roll aka the Mc Chicken Roll. It comes with what looks like a California Roll base, topped with Chicken Katsu, special sauce, then shredded lettuce/greens and a mayo sauce on top of that. I also order the Lion King Roll, which has baked salmon/scallops on top. Tempura Ramen is also a good recommendation for those Cold Days. First Impressions, Location, Parking, and Atmosphere: CASH ONLY~ Yes, I hope I just saved you some trouble and $2 from their ATM machine! Moving on, this restaurant is located in the Lincoln Center across from the plaza with the Safeway and Trader Joes and parking is abundant since it shares with other shops. Inside can get quite crowded at dinner time and seating is first come fist serve (no host to seat you). You order what you want upfront (again cash only - keeps the prices lower) and then seat yourself where the waiter/waitress will pick up your receipt and serve you. Food & Presentation: Okay so I'm part Japanese, and I'm going to give you a quick lesson on sushi; sushi is the enjoyment of tasting RAW FISH and enjoying the flavors and texture of the FISH, not the enjoyment of covering it up with sweet teriyaki sauce until the fish is not even noticeable. - In other words this is not sushi, but fusion sushi. Otherwise, their rolls are delicious and their designs are artfully crafted by hand to the point that you might not want to eat it because you'll be destroying its beauty! Everything else on the menu is average like teriyaki chicken, cury katsu, etc. - You're going to a sushi restaurant, why would you get anything else? hahaha Service & Price: Expect to pay about $12-15 per roll. Bento boxes (lunch/dinner meals) are about same price. And this place is very casual especially the first come first serve for the seating. Waitresses and waiters are kind and friendly. I think I even met the owner's son? Everyone is super friendly and I'm confident you won't be disappointed in the service. I actually don't really like this place, but for some reason all of my friends rave about it like it's the best thing in Stockton. The prices are a big downer for me, actually. I don't find it very cheap and I feel like I get less than what I paid for in taste, but not in quantity. I will admit that it does fill you up, though... it's just not that great. Horrible food! Stopped here for some pork cutlet on a whim while picking up my dry cleaning. The miso soup did not taste like any miso soup I have ever had and served in a small container. I would not complain but I paid extra. The pork cutlet was made from pork that was past its date and the cutlet was over cooked. I am starving as I write this but one look and I tossed the food. I had an awesome experience here the other night. Super friendly staff super clean, plenty of seating and reasonable prices. Fresh sushi is sadly hard to come by,not here. Absolutely delicious and comes fast. You order at the counter then seat yourself and wait. I actually like the system they have going. They don't just neglect you because you already ordered and paid they continue to check on you and refill drinks, awesome! I got the tiger roll and the chicken teriyaki bowl. My friend took me here after I moved to Stockton. It's different type of set up where you order, pay and then sit at a table. The waiters comes with your food. The food is a bit expensive. Last time, I ordered a tempura udon and it was such a dissapointment! ALl it had was 2 shrimp tempura and a few pieces of fake imitation crab. It was not worth 8 dollars. I also ordered one of their sushi, its small and too much rice, not enough substance. It's alot of crap and sauce loaded onto small piece of meat and rice. the good thing about this place is that it's near starbucks and jamba juice. You can wash it down with some of that. read more

Shomi is a nice little change of pace for a quick no brainer dinner. Some of my favorites are the Udon, Chicken Katsu Curry, and the Teriyaki almon. They have been doing it like this for a long time unfortunately with Kyodai, Coco Ro, and Raw the diversity has surpassed this mom and pop sushi joint. Food was good. I liked their katsu chicken. We ordered the lion king and crunchy roll. The lion king was pretty good; the crunchy roll was just so so. Not a fantastic experience here..the waitress we had was terrible. We had to ask for our waters and ask for refills too. When she gave us our food, she forgot to get us little side dishes for the soy sauce - we had to ask for that too. When our food came out, our lion king roll was missing...we politely let her know... She walked away and said, "they are bringing it." Uh, ok. Who's they and when are they bringing it? Anyway, 10 minutes past we ask again. She goes, "Don't worry sweetheart, they are bringing it." 15 min. into our meal, our lion king roll finally arrives. Thankfully it's delicious and it was worth the wait. At the end of the meal, our waitress finally asks us how we are doing? ..(Uh a little too late there). And, it wasn't even a busy night. Her name had a "Z" in it; stay clear from her. Food- Above average. Service- Dismal/ Nonexistent. I don't know if they're just short on staff today but it seems as if one of the hundreds of chefs steps out to clean the tables every 30 minutes. It's not even a very busy day. They had us waiting for a while. I would've cleaned the table myself if they let me. I rate my restaurants on the amount of times the waiter comes by and asks for a refill. I literally had my cup tilted so high, it was nanometers away from the ice falling out. I held that pose to be extremely obvious to anyone looking at me that I was out of water. I actually caught a glimpse of the one waitress chatting like she was out walking her dog. Lets just say I would've died of extreme dehydration before I would get a refill. My last resort would be to down the soy sauce. The fact that I ordered the curry with rice made it even more difficult since no one ever came by and asked if I would like a spoon and fork. Needless to say, I've mastered the art of eating curry and rice with the chopsticks in during my dinner here. My newfound skills now rival the Mr. Miyagi from Karate Kid. Of course this all wouldn't have been a problem if I had just called someone. But too bad no one even bothered to walk by us. Apart from the weirdness of placing your order when you walk in the door (creating a wicked bottlleneck during busy times) and the bathroom area which has the faint, odd smell of a swampy pool, it's cheaper than the other Lincoln Center eateries. The food is filling, plentiful and a recession-buster at $7.75: you get chicken teriyaki with veggies, a mound of white rice, a small salad, a few edamame pods and an orange wedge. I've had some of the sushi rolls (Dragon Roll yummm), but I honestly come here for the Nigiri. -Maguro -Shiro Maguro -Ebi -Ikura -Tako -Sake -Unagi -Hamachi and if you're daring... the Uni. If you aren't into fish... the Miso Ramen is always a good choice too. The prices are cheap, but unfortunately, they don't always have the Nigiri that you want. (Which really isn't their fault... this is Stockton). Sake bombs are always in order... not so much the oyster shooters. Go to Misaki for that. This place has been a UOP pharmacy student tradition. They are know for their great rolls and super student prices. Whenever you eat here, you are bound to fun into a pharmacy student. The daily specials are a good bet but any of the sushis are pretty good. They have refillable fountain drinks so thats always a nice thing. I'm surprised that this spot has a 3-star average. Yes the wait is a little longer than expected but this iconic Japanese spot in Stockton has served this community since the late 1990's and continues to deliver quality food in spite of many other competitive restaurants...some started by previous Sho Mi chefs. For veggie lovers, the Eggplant Roll, this one of a kind and I have yet to find it replicated in other sushi restaurants. It's actually kind of hard to write this review because I used to be so attached to this place! My friends and I all went here all the time, and the place used to always be crackin'. It was actually the first sushi place I've ever eaten at, but even after I started trying other places I still really like it.
