Show up hungry. We got charged $46 for the breakfast buffet and glasses of orange juice for two people. To be fair, we didn't ask; they no longer hand out menus, and the price of the buffet is not actually listed anywhere in the restaurant. We had not been there in several years, and didn't think to ask if it was now $23 a person. That is bananas for a restaurant with moldy air conditioning vents, stand fans blowing on your food, and your standard Shoney's breakfast buffet of eggs, hashbrowns, rice (nothing expensive like seafood). Pleasantly surprised at how clean and well kept the restaurant was. Service was on point even even though there were only two servers. Someone serves your food instead you serving yourself. Much more sanitary and the majority of the food was fresh. Would give it another try as I honestly was skeptical at first. Good job. read more

I visited the Shoney's in Lafayette, LA years ago. It was horrible! I'm not shocked it closed. I enjoyed this location in Gretna. Bacon and sausage were the only proteins available on the breakfast bar and fried chicken the only one on the lunch bar. Drive by here all the time and thought it was an abandoned building. My in laws told me this place has the best breakfast so I met up with them. The breakfast was a Buffett and they had a varieties of food to choose from. They have biscuit, eggs, bacon, grits, French toast, fruits, pancake, and other things. It's a typical breakfast buffet nothing to brag about. The price is reasonable and the service was slow. The layout seems dated but I wasn't expecting much. I like Shoney's, I guess...after all, I worked at one as a high schooler back home in Florida and it's good to see one still thriving here in NOLA. There's another one in Morgan City as well. So, for the good, this restaurant is pretty resilient. They're one of what, maybe five in the nation? JK. But after Hurricane Ida, they opened up pretty quickly and were ready to feed their customers. Pretty awesome! Their new hours are 6am-2pm and they're still serving lunch at 11am. I think it'll serve them well to have the breakfast buffet all day, For the not so good, it's dated and can use a serious makeover or deep clean. Other than that, it's the usual bacon, eggs, cheese, gravy, biscuits, grits, French toast and sausage deal they've always had. However, the salad bar has greatly improved and I enjoyed a nice big salad for breakfast, which was actually good I might add. Oh and another feature about the buffet bar, for a $12' flat fee, take out is available....not bad! Lastly, considering the mass exodus of hospitality professionals, I'm glad they still have pleasant staff. Our son took us there for Thanksgiving $14.99 + tax a person. The food was not good, my wife's chicken thigh had blood oozing out of it, there was a big fan blowing over the food and the food was bland, now don't get me wrong we are not salt lovers at all, but you have to have some salt in your food. Great service Friendly staff Breakfast buffet is awesome in the morning. I was filling like glutton and got pancakes and biscuits with gravy. The pancakes we're amazing with some butter and syrup. The biscuits with the gravy were what really hit the spot, and the gravy was full of flavor. They also had good coffee. Along with the multiple fruits, grits, eggs, various types of sausages, chicken bites and salad fixings, they opted to let you have eggs fixed the way you like fresh. They also allow you to order pancakes fresh, to ensure they are high quality by the time you eat them, at no additional cost. Items are plentiful, and they constantly bringing in new items to restock the multitudes of people that attack the buffet ferociously. The breakfast/brunch buffet is always in high demand. The lunch and dinner buffet usually have some staple items such as fried chicken, soup and salads, along with other items that bring women, men and children alike with greased faces and glossy eyes trying to eat more and more! Had no issue with the food selection, I did however have an issue with one of the waiters Daisy. The lady that waited on myself and sons table gave no issues to us, but Daisy wasn't to happy about me not tipping and expressed that "they will not take care of me, as they make 2.13hr; to not come back". Nothing short of the worst restaurant in the greater New Orleans area. I went there in hopes of getting breakfast, granted it was after 12 noon, but the food that was out, looked like it was prepared the day prior, not completely finished, and re-plated the following day. If you've eaten at a truck stop diner, I'm willing to bet you've eaten better than you'd get from Shoney's. Quite simply, the best consistent quality breakfast buffet on the Westbank. High quality bacon and lots of it. Fried eggs, toast, and pancakes ordered fresh from the kitchen included with the buffet. I haven't had any issues with food quality here, but I only ever go early in the morning because of work haha. Make sure you try the french toast and cinnamon stick things they're amazing. Tried the breakfast buffet this morning; nice and empty around 7AM. First breakfast buffet I've been to with a salad bar. Basic assortment including: eggs, bacon, sausage links, grits (plain and cheesy), mushrooms,fried balogna, boring frozen potato squares, pancakes, french toast sticks and sliced fruit. I haven't eaten at a Shoney's in years. I didn't miss it. However, this particular location had great customer service. We had a large crowd and the restaurant was already busy, but they seated us right away. I'm probably not the biggest fan anymore because my diet has changed drastically over the years. We dined for breakfast and they offered a breakfast buffet, which everyone took advantage of. I had a biscuit and some eggs as well as a coffee. Downside: I'm not sure the dish washers work or the human dish washers are slacking. My coffee cup looked like it still had lipstick on it, so I requested a cup to go. Eggs and biscuit were good. They did have a few fruit choices, but since we were close to the hotel, I opted to stop there for something else. read more

The breakfast buffet is the only good thing here. However, i would miss it if it was gone. We has the shittiest, most inattentive waitress, Keisha. She tried rushing us out, asked us if we needed anything 3x in the first 15min we were there. And then we didnt see her for the next 45min -- probably longer. Thanks to a waitress next to us, Alicia, our breakfast experience was salvaged. She brought us napkins (which you usually need when youre eating because of the bacon or syrup or other messy foods), refills, straws, which believe it or not, we hadnt received up until this point. 1 star is because their breakfast is so fucking good. read more

Great selection for breakfast buffet for a great price! Everything was full and when it ran low they were quick to reup on whatever was low. We were on our 3 plates and had just came back from the buffet and i look under the table because I heard something and I see a RAT SITTING NEXT TO MY FOOT. In shock, I slammed my knee on the table. The waitress OBVIOUSLY heard me and looked over then walked away. She saw the rat and didn't say a word. We then walk over to the cash register and the manger literally just tells us our total and we even said" Ma'am, there was a rat under our table". The lunch buffet is 7.99$. Here's a decent salad bar, your typical southern food, and some fruits and dessert. The last time I was here was 10+ years ago. The outside has been renovated as well as the inside, but the layout is the exact same! The staff was so friendly and everyone was very welcoming.
