Ummm I just had one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. I came in here with no expectations and it blew me away. The service was so friendly and quick. I went here for the first time today, and I'm already looking forward to going back. There are just too many mouth-watering items on the menu to choose from, and for Santa Monica, it's hard to beat the prices! The cafe is small (probably only enough seating for 25 people tops), but my boyfriend and I were seated right away on a Sunday morning. The Body Wrap I had was tasty and the banana pancakes I shared were out-of-this-world! I was pleasantly surprised by how fresh all the ingredients were. The latte I had was just average, but I'll give this place a pass on that; if I wanted spectacular lattes there are several coffee shops nearby I can go to. If you have the time, or are just waiting for a table, I suggest checking out all the candy and other European items they have in their store. It's a fun way to waste a few minutes. read more

LOVE AND MISS THE SHOOP'S! I used to live just 1 block away from this location. Prices are a bit high, but this place is delish. The german potato salad is every bit as good as my grandma used to make. I miss the great butcher, the wonderful little german market, the bread, and really nice neighborhoodie treatment I always received. For breakfast, it's not an 'experience' like other places nearby, but always good and fresh. Also, you are likely not going to have to wait 20-45 mins for a table! If you are in the area and are headed to the beach, come in to get a sandwich or snacks to take with you...they do it right here at Shoop's! read more

Maybe some of the beat pancakes I've tried. However I'm docking a star for number one not having REAL maple syrup. Number two not serving pancakes during the week past 11:30. Their main asset is the pancakes so it's just illogic they won't serve their best item all day long. I had to take my pancakes home so I could lather them up with real Maine maple syrup. I can't bring myself to eat imitation maple syrup that's full of chemicals and corn syrup. Yuck ! So sad they can't provide the real thing. I would gladly pay more money for it and I'm sure the majority of the health conscious neighbors in Santa Monica would too. read more

This is a great casual spot. They have solid salads and sandwiches and serve breakfast all day. The shop is nice and has a lot of rare european products! I had the Mediterranean omelette and it was awesome. Everything they make is high quality. Love the baguettes! Ambiance is ok... pretty simple. Staff friendly. There isnt a ton of seating and it tends to be busy (lunch and weekends) so go during off times if you can. read more

WHOA! My co-worker would not stop raving about this place and their salmon. While his taste in food doesn't exactly match mine, I couldn't agree more. I ordered the Salmon BLT Sandwich yesterday and loved it. The tastes go perfectly together...you get a little bit of savory, sweet, with fresh veggies and a perfectly toasted baguette. For $13 they load that sandwich with salmon and bacon so that every bite has a perfect ratio of meat and veggies. I had to get the sandwich again today for lunch after thinking about it for the last 24 hours. read more

Was initially impressed because this restaurant sat us right away and we got the impression that this would be a quick in and out one of place. My boyfriend and I sat after waiting about 5 minutes for a table, and were given water right away. We put in our order right away as well. Our waitress was really friendly, but seemed a bit overloaded with work since she was the only waitress We waited about 45 minutes until we saw our waitress again to refill our water. We didn't get our breakfast wraps for an hour. The food was really good but I'm not sure it was worth the wait. read more

Had a great experience here with a smoked salmon wrap but their smoked salmon runs out quickly. Also one of our guests found it a bit weird when the tall old gentlemen who is probably the owner punched her on the arm after asking "everything good here?" I guess she didn't respond since he asked the entire Group of 8 and then proceeded to punch her arm as if checking with her as well. Would go back since some dishes were good and servers were pleasant. read more

Just an all around solid spot. I recently got on their breakfast sandwiches which are solid (though I prefer to have it on sourdough instead because the normal bread to egg/bacon ratio is sometimes too high). Their pancakes are always on point. Haven't had their coffee but I'm a stage 10 coffee snob and if I can't drink it black it's not good coffee... and I'm pretty sure I've never had drip coffee (vs French press) at a breakfast spot that's drinkable without sugar and cream. Sometimes it can get crowded and the wait can be long. Other times you can walk right in. The service is good once you are seated. The wait staff is always refilling drinks and coffee. Absolutely amazing! Breakfast was delicious and fresh! So many options to satisfy my family's varying tastebuds. They also carry a variety of specialty meats that were to die for. I love Shoop´s. The service is always great and the food is delicious. So far I´ve tried the avocado toast, the Caesar salad, and the Ranger (sandwich). In the back of the restaurant there is a small German supermarket with authentic German/Austrian/Swiss food. Especially the Swiss chocolate is amazing! read more

It's all true! Every good word is true about this place. We had Blueberry pancakes, actual grilled bread for toast, the breakfast potatoes, and the best Mediterranean omelet! dammit it was good!! All of it! The owner was great and the shop full of the coolest candies and specialty foods imported from Europe. We took home so much fun stuff! Great place to go! Their service is quick, friendly, and the food is pretty delicious. I've had their salmon Caesar salad and their caesar wrap as well as their BLT, and the BBQ sandwich. My favorite was the salad, lease fav. was the bbq sandwich. The shop. or deli, is very clean and there is always someone at the register who is ready to help you. They also take phone-in orders. Although the price can sometimes be steep, what can you do? It is Santa Monica and the quality is unquestionable at Shoops. Pay the money, eat the goods, be happy. Shoops! read more

Shoop's is a little piece of Europe right on Main Street. My wife and I love this place for breakfast and it's such a welcome relief from the weekend chaos you'll find at the other breakfast joints on Main. The best part about Shoop's is that the dining area is small - so it never gets too loud or feels too crowded. My go-to breakfast is the Ham Pesto Scramble, but everything that the friendly waitresses bring out looks amazing. In the rare instance there's a line, you can kill time by checking out the market that's filled with all kinds of European goodies. read more

We were looking for a vegan/ veggie breakfast place, and we meant to go to Urth Cafe across the street but we didn't like their breakfast menu so we crossed the street to Uber to Venice, but only wondered in here to buy a water essentially, and we looked at the menu and decided to try the place out. The food is incredible! Easily the best pancakes I've ever had. Ask them to mix banana, blueberries and pineapple all together! Wow! Seriously, I wish I lived in Santa Monica so I could come more often. They also have many vegan options! And the service is excellent. Been going here for years! This is a local and really good place for breakfast or lunch. I often turkey scramble with fruit for breakfast. Their Cobb salad is one of the best in town. Add a chicken breast to really make a solid protein packed lunch. The also have a big selection of European foods, snacks and candies. read more

Great breakfasty place. They have a lot of good breakfast goods (pancakes, eggs, etc), but also have deli style sandwiches. Everything I've had there has been good. Had the banana pancakes last week, and they were awesome! Also had the hot dog (good) and the smoked salmon (also good). Family owned, which is always a plus for me. I have a dairy allergy, and they put cream in almost everything. This isn't their fault -- I'm just warning everyone like me: ask for things without the creamy sauce or you may be hitting the lactaid pretty hard! read more

I love this place! There is nothing fancy about the interior. It's decorated sparcly; the tables and chairs are a little beat up and the mugs and plates are diner style thick white cermamic. Having breakfast here feels very comfortable and pleasantly unpretentious. The menu is really different and interesting. They have your normal breakfast staples but they also have lots of vegetarian options as well as some fish dishes. I ordered the savory pancake which is stuffed with tomatoes ad basil then smothered in two fried eggs and pesto sauce. It was completely wonderful. Beautiful to look at, scrumptious to eat. My breafast buddy got the salmon scramble which he loved. (I personally don't like fish for breakfast) The toast that came with his meal was huge and tasted wonderful. The coffee was decent and all you can drink. The service was fast and friendly. The prices were reasonable especially considering the quality of the food. Prefect breakfast spot!! I wanted to love this place I really did but the food is not good. The people are lovely, so welcoming and friendly. It feels like a real mom and shop place. Great place to get last minute things you may need like snacks and such, but the cafe didn't impress me. I ordered the blueberry pancakes which tasted like they were drenched in oil, I ate one and just couldn't bare anymore. I am thankful for the experience, but if you're hungry go elsewhere. read more

The Shop: Shoop's is a nice little European Half grocery/deli & half restaurant in Santa Monica. It's staffed with friendly ,attentive, and knowledgeable staff, along with being stocked full of not so hard to find to harder to come by European snacks and foods. This place is a great idea since L.A doesn't really have very many good European grocery shops in the area. The Food: I have only been here once so far for lunch and had the hot pastrami with Swiss sandwich along with a side of German potato salad ($8.95). Despite some of the other reviews of this place, I personally wouldn't give this place very many stars based off my sandwich alone. I don't know if it was just a one-off, but my sandwich was just ok being somewhat burnt and not very juicy. I was honestly a bit disappointed as I expected better based off yelp reviews. Overall: Sandwiches aside, I can't judge this place on their sandwiches alone and I think this place is probably best for their sliced meats and cheeses. Also if you are ever looking for a European food based goodie that you are having trouble finding this place would be a good stop. I would give the sandwiches a 3 star but the meat, cheese, and overall stock a 4 star. Also a plus, is there are so few places in L.A that sell Lotus Speculoos and this place just happens to be one of them! Pros: Sells many hard to find European food and snack items. Has a great selection of deli meats and cheeses. Carries Lotus Speculoos :) Cons: Parking can be difficult on weekends. Sandwiches are just ok , not amazing. The waitress never introduced herself either. Additionally, no one checked up on us during the entire meal. Usually any sit down restaurant would ask how your meal is. No one did. we weren't even given silverware when our meals arrived. we had to go get them ourselves. We had to ask for boxes after sitting and waiting for anyone to check in. We separately had to call out to the oblivious waitress to even pay, as she was standing out there just looking around. The food was great, like i wish we would have had cash to tip the cooks themselves bc the food was really good. But Ive attached photos of the food (great!) and photos of the many empty tables that made them sooo busy they cldnt accommodate the paying costumers that already ordered. my boyfriend and I have both worked in the service industry before. But i would just say that they had horrible service which can ruin a perfectly good meal. I hope if the owner is the one I met at the door, he considers getting new waitresses .

EDIT: The owner got in contact with me and assured me that this was not supposed to be the norm. I have been back several times since and enjoyed it every time! ANYTHING BELOW THIS POINT IS OLD AND SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN AS CURRENT It really pains me to leave this low of a review for a place i've loved and been going to multiple times a week for well over a year now... But I believe they are trying to cut costs at the expense of quality. One of my favorites at Shoop's has always been the Salmon BLT which up until recently has been amazing. For the past few weeks, however, every sandwich I have had has been mostly bread and lettuce with VERY little salmon or bacon. What used to be a sandwich that was actually worth the high price you pay is now very disappointing and not worth the premium... This change happened right around the time they changed the paper they use to wrap to go orders. The new bread also leaves something to be desired. I hoped it was a one off and a new chef or something, but it has been a consistent trend. Sorry guys, but unless this changes I won't be continuing to come in. read more

Is it bad that I giggle like a kid when the waitress tells me the sausages "are very long and thick"? Ah well. We went back to Shoop's last week and this time I tried the Grilled Old World Sausage Platter. $11.95, but you get sooo much food! You get a choice of soup or salad, then it also comes with a French baguette. I didn't even eat most of my vegetable soup (which was quite good), and I still barely finished one of the TWO big weisswursts on my platter. The sausages are served on sauerkraut and also come with Shoop's German potato salad that I like so much. The mustard that comes with it is delicious! The kraut was pretty good, although it was a tad sweet for my taste. My main critique would be the sausages should be grilled more. I've never been to a deli in Europe but if they're like Shoop's then they must be amazing and they really have it down better than us. I first came to Shoop's last month and I've already been 3 more times, no joke lol. Their food is all delicious whether you want breakfast, brunch, a sandwich, etc. They also sell some European candies and other random products that have funny packaging and are beyond delicious! Best Bratwurst in town. You can buy them in packs of four and take them home to the grill. Also, the only place I know besides Alpine Village where you can get German items. They have everything from baking items, toiletries, candies, breads and more. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Apparently I've been coming here long enough that recently I walked in and they had my iced Americano ready before I even ordered it. Such a small thing, but it absolutely made my day and says a lot about the people who work here. Great coffee, great food, and genuinely thoughtful service. Highly recommend Lokl Haus!

The place is rather small, but the outdoor patio is adorably decorated. Service was good, they were attentive and brought out our items quickly. The portions are pretty big and the price was also equally decent. We ordered the CA burrito and it was massive. Also the pancake special with turkey bacon and over easy eggs. I ordered an iced matcha, it was ok, nothing too crazy. Parking is street only, but there's plenty of parking on Jefferson, so a short walk before and after a big breakfast was ideal. There was some parking on National but it was a little tight. I recommend going to Jefferson where there are more houses and park there instead and walk to the restaurant.
