This WAS one of our favorite date night restaurants in Dallas. The food and cocktails are great, never disappoints... until now. Arrived at 5:30 and we were promptly served drinks and appetizers....and never served again. 4o minutes in we had to ask the bus boy for our salads. At 6;40, after watching our server provide meals to everyone around us who arrived well aft3r we did, we had to follow the server to the bar to ask for our check. It arrived with both meals charged even though the were not served. It was 20 minutes just trying to pay to leave. All forgivable on a busy night . . . Un5il the manager, without an apology literally SLAMMED our $50+ bill on the table with a 'have a good night' angry as if we had done some5hing wrong. We left at 7:15- frustrated, hungry, and shocked at the entire experience. Love the food. The bus staff is great. The valet is perfect. The drinks are awesome. The manager ruined the entire experience, taking a bad situation and making it worse because we didnt want to pay for food we were never served 1.5 hours after arriving. I am not looking for anything for free. Owners need to know this manager is being rude and creating problems rather than solving them. We haven't been to Prego's in years. We went in for a very late lunch so the place was practically empty. Kind of a disappointment on the food. We started with cocktails and some crab claws. Hubby had a beer and I ordered the Italian Martini which was delicious. The crab claws were a bit over cooked but the sauce was heavenly. Then we both had a house salad which came with the meal. We love their house dressing. Hubby ordered the Robert Style pasta which he didn't like the flavor that much but said the Italian sausage was good. I had the Shrimp Prego. A little too much lemon and the coating on the shrimp wasn't crispy and fell off easily. I would definitely go back and try something else. Tiki hubby had to try the lunch Chicken Fried Steak. Yes Italian restaurant who offer's a CFS. He got his with mashed potatoes and corn. I went with an order of meatballs and an aperol spritzer. The refreshing cocktail hit the spot of this 100 degree day. White table cloths friendly staff made us feel like we were in little Italy. The food was delicious the Crust on the CFS was flavorful and crispy covering the most tender meat. The meatballs were some of the best soft meaty in a rich dark red tomato sauce. Diane our server was one best, took amazing care of us. Would go back just for her great service and the food being so yummy look forward to try other menu items. Prego Pasta house is a go to for our family. I had been coming here for 40 years. The place is warm and inviting with an old school Italian vibe. The food is incredible, from nightly specials to traditional pasta dishes and a hand selected wine list. The bartenders are mixologists for those crazing a crafty cocktail. I personally eat the hamburger and feta pizza a lot as my go to, as well as the chicken Marsala and lemon artichoke chicken. Dare yourself to order the off the menu chicken fried steak! I know CFS is not Italian, but it's definitely the biggest CFS I've ever seen! And it tastes great. Wow!! Shrimp Prego is now my favorite dish in Dallas!! Ok folks, get ready to have your socks knocked off. This is such a delicious and amazing dish. Fresh perfectly cooked lightly battered butterflied shrimp with an incredible lemon butter and capers sauce. Get it ASAP! Here is the story... I had already eaten lunch and joined friends for a late lunch to chat. This dish passed us going to another table and it totally caught my eye. The presentation was awesome. Food was so tasty! The service was nice and every employee was so sweet. I ordered the spinach lasagna (I loved this) and a small order of crab claws. My son got a small pizza with half pepperoni and the other half just cheese (he recommends all pepperoni). I wish I would have gotten the name of the waitress helping the table next to mine. She was a little bit older with short brunette hair. She went out of her way to help me and my son when she thought we needed something. She was so sweet and is noticeably an asset to this restaurant. I would have given five stars had my server offered a dessert menu. Also, it would be nice to have some small pasta options on the lunch menu opposed to mostly sandwiches and salads. Overall a great experience though. read more

My bf had expectations that this place may be a little on the stuffy side- granted their years in business. Let me tell you! We have been driving by A GEM for years!!!! I'm now obsessed with this place, their friendly patrons and the INCREDIBLE FOOD! we sat at the bar. Our bartender was so helpful and friendly. Everything we ordered was as fantastic. I don't eat red meat, and they actually offer veggie lasagna here! It was absolutely delicious. I'm eating it again tonight and am not emotionally prepared for when it is gone. I've been wanting to come to Prego Pasta House for so long and unfortunately it was just average. I went for a spontaneous lunch date around noon on a week day. It wasn't packed but it was busy. We ordered the Italian lunch chop salad and a chicken parm sandwich. The salad was good but overdressed. I loved that it was truly a chop salad, everything was small bite size pieces. The size of the salad was impressive, I couldn't finish it. The chicken parm sandwich was average. It was thinly baked, crispy pieces of chicken but there wasn't really any flavor to the breading. I asked for extra red sauce for dipping. The sauce took it up a notch! I mean who doesn't love a hot, flavorful red sauce!! Our waiter was nice but not exceptional service. The manager (or what I presume was the manager) was hustling though!! He welcomed us, sat us, parked the cars, cleared the table and checked in on us. I hope that man is appreciated! This "old school" eatery is one of my best friends favorites so I decided to take my wife there recently for our anniversary. 25 minutes to get our food and they have my wife order wrong. TLDR: I have never had a worse experience at a restaurant. The service was so terrible that I couldn't even focus on the food. As I write this and reflect, it feels like they are racist against Asians or they hate young people! We ordered the chicken italiano, margherita pizza (sm), special garlic cheese bread, and fried cottage potatoes. The chicken italiano came as a recommendation from the server by the way. Our experience started in the parking lot. We saw they had valet parking but there was nothing marking what was valet parking not where. So we parked and walked to the restaurant only to be told that was valet parking. When asked where we could park, we were told he was advised to say nothing. In my opinion, he should be able to tell us where we could park considering he was claiming the only nearby parking lot (which was wide open nothing blocking it off, no traffic comes, nothing to differentiate it being valet parking) was valet only. Considering it was next to a major road we had to find parking elsewhere, in someone else's parking lot. To me, it seems like a shady business practice to squeeze more money out of customers. Next, we walked in and weren't greeted just told "how many?". He proceeded to walk away, not signaling if we were to follow so we just shuffled behind me. He left the menus on the table and left us, nothing said, nothing about the waiter how would serve us, no "hi", nothing. I don't ask for much when it comes to service but I feel like basic manners and greetings is required for a place as pricey as this. Our waiter didn't say a single word to us till five minutes into sitting down, WE DIDNT EVEN KNOW WHO WAS SUPPOSED TO BE OUR WAITER. THE RESTAURANT WAS NOT PACKED!! All I wanted was, "Sorry for the wait, I'm running behind!" ZERO COMMUNICATION FROM THE ENTIRE FRONT HOUSE. We didn't get the name of our waiter but she was nice when she did get to us. At this point I wasn't as livid as I was when I left because I thought maybe it was a bad day considering it was a Monday night. The tables had about 6 inches of clearance between them, so I had to squeeze to get in. This is important because another couple was next to us and the host MOVES THE TABLE SO SHE COULD GET IN AND HE IMMEDIATELY GOT THEM WATER. The couple next to us, with a seat in-between, WAS STILL WITHIN ARMS DISTANCE! THATS HOW CLOSE WE WERE, and I was expected to figure out how to get into my seat! At this point it felt like they were purposely leaving us out or actively not wanting to engage with us. Our waitress finally got us and took our order which was a fine experience by her. Never got her name so can't give her commendations. The food came out and the country potatoes tasted fine, just a little disappointed. It was thick potato slices with light salt. The special garlic cheese bread was good, the marinara sauce was actually good. The margherita pizza (sm) was lacking in my opinion, all I tasted was tomato. I could feel cheese, but not a lot much flavor and I tasted no basil. I could see it was present, but had no discernable flavors. I finished eating before my partner, but had leftovers so I was going to ask for a togo box. A man came over with the togo box and automatically put it in which is fine but as a personal preference would have liked to been asked before sliding it over. I'm personally okay with packing my own food. But afterwards it felt like they were rushing us out as not even 10 seconds later they gave us the bill and left. We weren't asked about dessert or anything which I would think you would want to upsell. The fact that the beginning of our meal felt like we were abandoned, then the end of our meal we felt rushed to leave, left a very bad taste in my mouth. The reason why I say I feel like they are possibly racist against Asians or possibly biased against young people is, we were observing how they treated the other tables. They were treated with better service and better attitudes. We were visibly on the younger compared to the other patrons and I was the only Asian. I looked at the reviews thinking maybe this is a common practice but so far it seems like we were a special case. Needless to say, I did not enjoy my experience whatsoever. So if you're a younger person or east Asian, I would advise you stay away as your trip will be memorable in a bad way. read more

Our waiter was a veteran and a real hoot. He made me two VERY Dirty Martinis (his personal favorite) and instantly got my attention. He was friendly, gregarious and a fantastic waiter. I had the Chicken Fried Steak Special which is not on the menu. It was delicious with a gravy, so flavorful with the perfect consistency and blend of flavors! Our food came out cold, their soda machine was not working and everything was flat. The food before was good and the service was good but now it's horrible. I would take my money elsewhere. If i can give a 0 star to the place i would. I love the aesthetic and the vibes of the restaurant. Mind that the meal was $26 for a small little bowl, small scoop of lettuce (salad) & bread. Holy guacamole this place was amazing. The shrimp scampi & pasta combo were my favorites. This venue is beautiful and low key and old school. The servers and bartenders have been there for years. This place quite literally has the best lemon cake I have ever had in my entire life (please don't judge my half eaten slice, for it was that amazing I couldn't resist). The icing was airy and perfectly whipped, and the cake itself was airy and perfectly textured. It almost tastes like lemon verbana or those lemon suckers from your childhood. 12/10 recommend. Only reason I give 4 stars instead of 5 is they shake their manhattans. I had the gluten free pasta with meat sauce (she mentioned the gluten free pasta would be good and she was absolutely right.) I loved it! Can't wait to be back and have more.
