How do I start? Fried Oyster mushrooms sounds so Shouk'n Good ! We had to try this place. We have had vegetarian shawarma before but most places its the impossible or beyond meat or some sort of fusion soy crumbles. Never tried a oyster mushroom shawarma before. Shawarma itself was so well seasoned and flavorful went so well other options that we picked in the platter. We really wanted to try the Fried Mushroom schnitzel sandwich but they didn't have it at that time so we decided to go for Falafel platter and the falafels so were different form other places, packed with flavor. Pita was so soft and fluffy unlike I have had before and yes I had tried Pita in hundreds of different food joints. Can't wait to be back for fried mushroom sandwich and the shouk burger.

I had a fantastic meal at Shouk! This all vegan business excels providing Israeli inspired food with plenty of flavor. Shouk has fairly limited indoor seating and has three tables outside. It is certainly plenty of room for 2-4 people to dine in. Additionally their bathroom has a changing table which makes this a really family friendly option. As a new mom I am now noting what bathrooms are compatible for diaper changes. To order your meal you use their touchscreen kiosk. You can also scan a QR code from the Shouk app to accumulate points and redeem discounts. My absolute favorite meal is the fried Shouk'n sandwich with spiced fries. The fried oyster mushrooms are a crispy and chewy texture. I get the sauce on the side to make sure the pita is not drenched in too much creaminess. And I love the veggies included in this sandwich that add some lightness and tang to the pita. The French fries are spiced so well and always come out perfectly cooked. The portion size of fries is also generous. I can never finish my side and always offer for people to help me finish them. Shouk also has a build your own bowl option which is fantastic. You can pick 8 items as the base and then pay extra for falafel or other specialty items. I love assembling my own bowl so I dan out all my favorite veggies in. The food at Shouk comes out quickly. I think the staff at this location work hard and are very friendly. I am making my meals at Shouk more regular because it's a very quick meal to pick up and the quality is always great.

Shouk came up on a lunch search I did in the area. We decided to take a chance with a new place and were well rewarded for this chance. Pros: Two screens to place your order on with pictures of all the food. I love seeing what my food will look like before ordering so I loved this. Easy to pay and go. Amazing food-it took about 20 minutes from the time we ordered until we got the food, so it was fresh. Everything tasted amazing and the coconut pudding was the most unique thing I've tried in the last month. I could eat that every day. Cons: There's seating inside but all large four seater tables when most of the people that came in while we were there were couples. There wasn't enough seating for everyone that came in. Next time I'll order take out. The food didn't come with any indication of what was in either of the boxes and since I forgot what I ordered, it was a little confusing. There were only two of us, but if it was a larger group I could see that being frustrating. The restaurant has kind of an awkward layout. The trash, which is right next to the door, causes unnecessary people flow issues. We had to the hold door and wait for people who were sorting their trash because there wasn't enough space to pass them, which was fine except there was a line of people waiting throw things away, which meant we just stood with the door open looking for a break in the trash line to get in. Overall, I really liked Shouk and will come back for takeout soon.

Great falafel place that's possibly the best in the DMC area, according to my wife. Service is good as well, but the atmosphere could use some improvement. Be sure to get the white sauce and spread that _______ on everything; it's sooooo nom nom good .

I was extremely impressed by my experience at Shouk. When you walk in you order on a computer screen. The wait for the food took about 5 minutes. There is some indoor and outdoor seating but not too much so keep this in mind. Personally, I got my meal to go. I started with the classic falafel which was amazing. It was also extremely filling as the portion size was quite large. I didn't feel too bad about that though because I knew it was plant-based and fresh. I finished with the choco-cardamom cookie which melts in your mouth (just as described on the menu). This is a great option for those who are dairy free, vegan, vegetarian, or kosher. Can't wait to go back!

Got the Shouk burger which was fantastic as usual. Also had the hummus and lentil soup. The pita just smelled and tasted so wonderful and soft as a pillow. Then I got the malabi, a coconut milk pudding which was also amazing. I just love Shouk. Naturally Plant based and truly good fast casual cuisine with no fanfare or fuss. You have my heart!

Rockville location: kind of get a 'dive' feel when you walk in. I wouldn't characterize it as inviting, warm, or very clean. I was apprehensive but determined to give it a try because I love mushrooms! There were a couple of people hanging around waiting for their orders. It's small, the walls beg for fresh paint, the floor could use some updating (different shades of concrete), and an overall vibe of the need for a good old-fashioned scrubbing. So, if you've never been, you walk up to the counter and place your order via a touchscreen. We found seats and waited. After we got our order - my wife got the falafel and I got two pocket sandwiches to try, the fried mushroom and the mushroom shawarma - we dug in. I cannot express my surprise and delight at how delicious the food is there! Even the side kale salad was excellent. The mushrooms were succulent, flavorful, rich, and paired wonderfully with the pocket sandwich additions. I have decided that I can't decide which one is my favorite, so when I go again, and I will, I'll have a hard time choosing. Or...maybe get both again

The word "Shouk" means open air market in Hebrew. It specializes in plant based foods that use fresh vegetables, grains,legumes, and seeds. Truthfully, I was a little hesitant to try Shouk, until my son in law, who is a chef, raved about it. I thought it would be the perfect game day meal. I ordered humus and the felafel sandwich. Ordering was so easy. You come in and order on a screened computer in the front of the restaurant. The computer prompts you, if you don't want any items in the dish or if you want to add on menu items. I took out the onion on my sandwich. The people working there were very pleasant and nice. I was in and out in about 5 minutes. I liked the middle Eastern decor. The hamsa hand on the wall stands for good luck. Well, my food was absolutely delicious. The breads are made in house and they are fresh and tender. The hummus was one of the best I have ever eaten. It was light, creamy, and flavorful. I couldn't stop eating it. Then, the felafel sandwich was packed full of huge felafel balls, fresh cucumber, and tomatoes. The tahini sauce on top was really tasty. The felafel balls were so tender and spiced perfectly. They melted in your mouth. The sandwich was huge and I ate it in two sittings. Probably, because I ate too much humus. Lol! Well, this may have been my first time,but it definitely won't be my last. My brother in law recommended trying the chicken nuggets. They are made from mushrooms. Next time, I will give those a try. This food is wonderful and I could not tell it was plant based. So, healthy and packed with flavor, this is a win-win celebration! Thanks Shouk.

Take a break from meat. You can get all your essential nutrients, plenty of flavor, and go easy on the animals. Win. Win. I began with lentil soup. Warm, hearty, with a hint of spice. Then I shared two sandwiches. The shouk burger came on fresh pita, with a variety of textures, some crunch, and a snap of tahini. We also had the mushroom shawarma. Oyster mushrooms are higher end than some other options. Again, there is crunch, vinegar bite, and a tahini background. Both winners. We also enjoyed the sweet potato fries, than were not crisp. ie. not drenched in oil. So a well balanced meal, with textures, flavors, and they don't break the bank.

This place is excellent. So excited to have a new staple lunch place in my rotation. The hummus is creamy and flavorful. Wish I got more than 1 pita so next time will ask for extra. Falafel pita is insanely good. The falafel was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Shouk burger is tasty. Great flavor all around. I wanted to like this place, but their service was so bad that it ruined my experience. Yesterday mid-afternoon, I pre-ordered take-out for 6 PM, but my wife later told me she'd be delayed in making the pick up. I tired to call them, but their phone is programmed to provide only recordings or to send out texts and it's links to their website. There was no way to get through to a human to delay or cancel our order. I did get a response via their email address, but by then my order was already made. In any event the response was that once an order is placed there is no way to change the pick up time. When my wife showed up almost an hour late, no one in the store would talk with her. They just shoved the food in her bag and went back to prepping other orders. The food was soggy, cold and inedible. Maybe we should have been so excited to try the place out by putting in an order 3 hours early, but I still fault Shouk for having an inflexible system that does not allow for human intervention. I also fault them for putting out an inferior product. (Even McDonald's throws out food if it is left sitting too long.) Maybe their food is good when it is freshly prepared, but I doubt I will go back to check read more

Delicious and healthy(I assume); It's all Plant based. The flavors are perfect. We ordered the oyster pita and the cauliflower bowl, along with a side of falafel. Everything was so good. So excited to have a Shouk location close by! The staff is great. Ordering online and picking up was fast and easy. And, of course, the food was super delicious. We ordered several Shouk burgers, a shawarma, a sausage, a BBQ Jackfruit, Shouk chikn, falafels. sweet potato fries, spicy fries, hummus, rice & lentils, pitot, sauces (harissa, harissa with Mayo, shrug, Shouk sauce), and some chocolate chip cardamom cookies. My favorite sandwich is the burger (especially with the Shouk sauce!) but others in our family liked the BBQ Jack even more. Even our guest from San Francisco, who is a very fine foodie and very picky with his food, not only loved it but even took leftovers from our feast! read more

I was really looking forward to trying this restaurant and was disappointed. I had the bowl with mushroom shawarma, half grains and half greens. I also added cauliflower. The mushrooms and cauliflower were flavored well but there was no dressing on the greens. It made the whole bowl taste bland. In addition, I think the mushrooms and cauliflower would taste better if they were served hot. We had hummus on the side and that was very good. Finally, the compostable forks are terrible and also interfered with my enjoyment. read more

I'm a longtime customer, this location is as good and consistent as their other 2 locations in DC. The food is always fresh and delicious. I just recently discovered their mushroom shawarma and it quickly became one of my favorites. A couple of other must haves on the menu are the Shouk burger & the falafel. DO NOT skip the cardamom chocolate chip cookie at the end, it's truly the best! read more

So good!! The sweet potato fries are perfect. They have the perfect balance between crispy and soft. When you bite in, you can hear the crunch and it's delicious. The salt added on top of them balances out the sweetness of the potato. One of my favorite things here!! read more

I can only say amazing! My husband a meat and potatoes person enjoyed his meal. I got the burger and he got the sausage. Both were great. I wish we had discovered this sooner and will definitely be back to try other things. The texture and the spices in the sausage made it hard to believe it was plant based. read more

On 7/23/2022, I ordered from Shouk for the first time. The only way to order is on-line and you must pre-pay. I requested too pick up my order at the Rockville location at 5:00 pm. At 3:30, I wanted to change the pick-up time to 4:30. There is no way to talk to anyone at Shouk by phone. The recorded message instructs that you send an email, so I did. No one replied to my email and when I showed up at 4:30 to pick up my order, it wasn't ready. I told them I requested a 4:30 pick-up time via email and was told that the ONE person who monitors emails was sick so no one read my email. I later sent another email explaining what happened and I received a reply that was extremely arrogant and condescending, stating that all restaurants with on-line ordering operate the same way; that customers cannot cancel their order and must always pre- pay. There was no apology and no appreciation for a customer's suggestions. There's no excuse for ignoring emails when there's no ability to actually speak with a person by phone. Shouk's "customer service" is non-existent. It doesn't matter how good the food is if there's no customer service. read more

Well the day finally came when hubs was picking me up & we had time to kill before our evening plans. I had mentioned this place several times while driving past it & we decided to make a stop. It's basically a take out place with some fast food restaurant style booths. You place your order, you pay, and you wait for ur food to be prepped. Unfortunately this was a let down. His burger was sad, looked like someone had worked out their aggression on it. Seriously, I've never seen any burger & bun that flattened. It was my mistake, I was excited because of the description (it contained lamb) but wasn't anywhere close to the Greek burger we get in VA, I'm not sure it was even up the fast food level, although it was definitely in competition for flatness. My dish was composed a lot of very dry meat. I'm no longer considering a stop as I drive.

Since we were sharing the dishes among four adults, the plates were already finished by the time everyone tried them. We informed the staff that something was wrong with the food, but the only response we received was that they checked the date on the meat. As many people know, meat can still spoil even if it is technically within the date. I left feeling very disappointed and even had a stomachache afterward. Sadly, we will not be returning. What makes this more disappointing is that we visited years ago and the food quality and dishes were completely different. We came to celebrate a birthday, but instead left upset -- and we still had to pay for everything.

For me, I would say they are better than the fries -- I only know this for sure because I finally ordered both at once, ha ha, and ended up unintentionally doing a side-by-side comparison. The fries are great! It's just that the roasted potatoes are even better! I enjoy the grilled eggplant, hummus with mushrooms, and would say the falafel is absolute perfection. Even my cousin who doesn't normally like falafel or hummus likes both of these things here. She said the falafel is cooked just right, being crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I agree! Not only that, they look good, too! The shape, size, and colours outside and in are highly enticing .... This is a really nice place for a family gathering -- speaking of which, I can report on what I've heard my family members saying about foods I haven't tried, and the upshot is ... everything is wonderful! The staff are also very nice and caring, attentive, knowledgeable and helpful. Most importantly: you will not go hungry here! You will leave sated and satiated, having indulged in Middle Eastern or American culinary delights .... Highly recommended! :-D

I've eaten many a bowl of noodles here, but my favorites are the Dan Dan Mian (with hot spicy sesame sauce and peanuts) and Xue Cai Ro Si Mian (shredded pork and mustard green noodle soup). I've also enjoyed Ma La Er Si (sliced pigs ears with hot and spicy seasoning) and Pi Dan Dou Fu (tofu with Thousand Year Egg) - things I doubt will EVER show up on a menu in my hometown. And the dumplings: oh my. I think I've tried them all, and haven't found one yet I wouldn't order again. The only downside to A&J (besides it being a drive for me) is their cash-only policy. The menu was large, and it's easy to order by circling items you want on the paper menu. We had a mix of noodle soup bowls (so many different flavors and styles) and appetizers, and everything we tried was delicious. Our bill came out to less than $25 per person with tip. I could imagine more pretentious Chinese restaurants downtown upcharging a lot more for lower quality Chinese food (Queen's English, for example). It was so good and affordable, that I actually ended up coming back the next day with a different friend. Overall, excellent experience, and I will be back again soon! One interesting tidbit, my coworker who grew up in the Midwest and only eats meat, potatoes, absolutely no vegetables, started going here for lunch and loves it. I think flour-based items (noodles, dumplings, buns) are really the star of the restaurant, and this can be enjoyed across different taste palates! I hope you will give this place a try.

We were in DC from Boston for the Thanksgiving holiday. Heard about Shouk so had to try it out. So glad we did. Loved it! Great vibe and very friendly staff. Had the Falafel balls which were phenomenal. Just the right amount of crisp and very flavorful. My son had the Shouk'n Nuggets and he loved them. He wanted seconds but had their BBQ Jack instead. Talk about flavor! He devoured it. My wife and I had the Shouk Burger. It was delicious. So hard to find a really good HEALTHY vegan burger done just right where it's cooked all the way through. I am so happy that I discovered Shouk! I am recently vegan but do not eat soy, or any other processed food substitutes. I love their Chick'n made from oyster mushrooms. It is so good! But that chickpea sausage is amazing as well. I only wish they provided an option under bowls to get greens only. Because ordering is pre-built, there is no option to remove the rice or lentils from the bowl order. It's either halfsies with rice/lentils and greens or all rice/lentils. Bummer. read more
