Mediocre design, had to pay for multiple changes ONLY because the designer was not detail oriented. I uploaded pictures and a video x2. I uploaded more style inspo pictures but they just never made any significant changes. I resorted to sending bullet lists and highlighted the bullets they missed, but would still have to go over it time and time again. I even put their basic design in pdf and drew ontop of it and they still got it wrong. I finally gave up and jokes on me, cuz they got my money and dont honor refunds for any reason. Designer got the style wrong over and over. They refused to change the design just kept moving a plant or two. If you want a basic grass and some generic plants this is for you. If you want real design go somewhere else because this company is devoid of creative or interesting thought. I suppose it's a good thing that I didn't look at this Yelp page before using Shrubhub because there are a lot of bad reviews here... but my experience with them has been pretty incredible. I will throw in one disclaimer that they used a bit of a "bait and switch" by advertising a low price and then upselling; but to be fair, my yard it much bigger than what is offered in their intro rate, so it was sort of expected. And once I got over that little annoyance, I have to say they have been AMAZING to work with. Helen (my project manager) has been extremely responsive to all of my messages, and has come back with all of my revisions in a very timely manner - usually in just a few days. Christian is my lead designer, and that dude comes up with some amazing stuff! As some have mentioned (complained about), the first version takes about a month. And I guess it's pretty s****y that they give a 30 day money back guarantee and then take more than 30 days to deliver V1. But I didn't even know about the guarantee until I read some of these reviews, so that didn't phase me at all! The reason it takes so long for the first version is because there is a ton of info they have to enter into their software about the site; after that first version, revisions are pretty quick and simple (disclaimer: I'm not remotely a tech guy so please ignore that crappy explanation, lol). But importantly, they were very upfront that the first one would take that long. So I wasn't upset about it. Once I got my first version, I knew I made the right decision. It was still pretty far from where it needed to be (I'm super picky), but I could tell we were going to get there. About 5 revisions later (each with 40+ high quality renderings!) and I'm all set with a design that would make the Kardashians jealous. All the revisions were included with no additional charge. And with no complaints. Overall, I couldn't be happier. The above project (which I should mention covers nearly a third of an acre) cost me $2,000. And if that sounds like a lot, it's only because you've never spoken with a landscape architect before. For comparison, before finding shrubhub we spent $1,700 on a local designer who delivered a pencil sketch of the yard, and one revision. And it took him 2 weeks to return any of my calls. Which was much better than another designer who wanted a $4k downpayment just to get on his 3 month waitlist! In closing. I strongly recommend Shrubhub. Ignore all the bad reviews. Very pleased with the design and process. Worked with Keith, who was my coordinated the project. Made a number of revisions, which were accomplished to my satisfaction. Took a while to get some of the designs, but it was worth the wait. It was necessary to prompt by email to check on the progress but received a return email promptly regarding the progress. The only drawback is that all the designs are not stored on the website, and every time you make a revision, the old design is deleted. If you forgot to download the old design, you have to request it be sent to you, which is fine. I purchased all the upgrades in excess of $1000 and for the most part, very worth it compared to conventional design services. Very positive experience. read more

It was a pretty good experience. It is true that 30 days of revisions is 4 at most - though they did accept an additional "add trees here" revision on day 31 - so that was nice. They listened to my input and feedback and I pared it down more than the initial design that they did - so I thought that was good. They showed some of what was possible and then I edited. One piece of feedback is to better understand what a yard with kids looks like - flow of the space and usability of the space. The initial was pretty but not super functional; however, we worked through it together and I'm pretty happy with where things ended up. The project manager was very responsive to my chats and emails - even if it did take time to do the actual revisions. I was quite impressed with the accuracy of the house and spacing of the house in relation to the yard. I could come back and give it 5 stars probably depending on how the plant consultation goes. The only reason I'm giving 4 here is because I did a lot of design/editing/picture/photoshop type of work to get it right - though that was probably more a function of my own specificity vs a lack of ability/desire from them. read more

Do you notice that some of the positive reviews re-use the same photos? This is a scam. Save your money. They are also obviously paying for good reviews from professional reviewers, and using a handful of photos/designs between yelp, their facebook ads and their website. The "designer" I spoke to asked me extremely simple questions, gave no input whatsoever and obviously had no expertise in landscape design. I actually did a lot of legwork, uploading photos and videos and figured maybe this guy was an input/order-taker and I'd get a follow-up call from a real designer later in the process. I never did. I got an email telling me to view 1 design concept (the advertisement said there would be 3), and the design was birds' eye view and almost no information other than a list of plants and containers that I've already seen previously on the website. Considering how unique and creative their advertising photos are, it's a bit of a joke to get such a simplistic and uninformed final product. Horrible customer service. Took about a month to get initial design- after I was upsold and told my yard was too big to be addressed with my initial package. I was fine with that as I do have a large yard. Before initial design was posted was told my initial project manager was no longer with the company. My design did not address any of the elements asked for in my consultation. It was a drawing of what I already had with different plants- which was not at all was was asked for. Took a weeks to get a phone call appointment to talk to new project manager about changes even though this was needed due to them losing an employee. Was told I would need a complete redesign and it would be another 3 weeks. It has now been 6 1/2 weeks since then and no re-design. I went ahead a just started my project with my landscapers direction and now my project is done. Paid $850 four months ago, and still no usable design. I asked for a refund and they told me I was out of my 30 day money back guarantee window, which is hilarious because I did not even have a design within 30 days. If you have a small yard and need a very basic design plan and do not have a deadline on when a design is needed, this service could work, but steer clear if you are looking for anything beyond this. read more

The design services at ShrubHub are mediocre, at best. They consistently over promised and under delivered. As instructed, I sent photos of the property along with many photos of plants I like and structures (i.e. pergola) I wanted incorporated into the design. I went thru a number of revisions and finally quit the process when the design continued to look like something you'd see in a warm climate like Florida or California not New England. Their design even included a list of some plants which weren't hardy enough to survive in my hardiness zone. (I knew something was up when I had never seen some of the plants.) The one positive, I liked the person assigned to my account. She was very nice. Unfortunately, the designers behind the scene were HORRENDOUS. Signed up for a package and waited for my phone consultation excited. Thought I was talking to a designer to chat through my pics and ideas. Instead I got a women with a heavy accent from a call center who asked me every question that I already answered and a list of questions for things she wanted to add on. She asked about lighting and I said that I wrote I wanted some outdoor hanging lights. She said it would be an extra cost to design that. I asked, "an extra cost to tell me where to hang lights?" She said yes, and I said, no thank you. People say this is a 30min consultation, but my call lasted 4 min with a person repeating what I already uploaded and wrote, and then her reading off questions for add ons. After 4 min she said she had what she needed to pass to a designer. It would take 15-30 days to get my design. Can't speak to the design, but will keep this updated. However, my initial experience hasn't been great and at this point, I'm not expecting much from the design if my first point of customer interaction has been cold, un-welcoming and overall very un-inspiring. read more

I am happy to say I'm getting a refund. The manager reached out and we shared a few emails and agreed a revised plan would not be provided at this time and a refund will be issued. I can take the original design make the necessary changes to fit my vision and backyard. The local nursery can make plant recommendations that would work in my area based on my likes. The original plan was nice, it just didn't work in my backyard and I'm sure I can use some of the design ideas that were presented. It would have been nice to receive a revised plan but it's okay now since I'll get a refund. The lighting package add-on was good and I'll make use of that. I liked the design for my lake House. The only problems I had were initially had been charged an extra $95 for an extra yard design that I had already paid for but was reimbursed right away when the error was found. Helen did a good job on using pictures of my yard and incorporating plants that I had in mind. We did have a revision to the initial design due to drainage for trees and accommodating a door entrance which changed one of the beds. Since I live in a wilderness area I did have a disagreement with some of the plant choices that were not deer resistant. The site for this company has a chat session where you can communicate with your designer and you can call the company directly too. I would recommend this company. read more

If this is the level of service they provide a brand new customer who just paid $700 I can't imagine the service provided to the folks who bought through the large discount. Good value for the price (under $200), if you are not in a rush. The eventual product was a professional-looking design that followed our requests, but it took several tries and a couple months to get there. The plant consultant was especially impressive. He was clearly knowledgeable, professional, accommodating, and helpful. It did take their team several tries (6+) over a time period of a couple months to create a design that both followed our requests/guidelines and looked professional (the first few tries ignored multiple of our requests and a couple of the other design drafts appeared lazily put together), but in the end we were happy with the eventual design and the team was eager to keep trying until they got it right. The designer who created the most recent 2-3 drafts did a great job. The designers they had doing some of the earlier drafts did not seem to have a strong design sense, and/or were not putting forth much effort. Since the price is much lower, it isn't fair to expect the same quality and efficiency as a higher-end landscape design firm or even as pricier virtual services. But considering the price and the fact that we were not in a rush to get our design, we are happy with the result and the value we got for what we paid. read more

Not if they take longer than 40 days to finalize their designs that you paid for. So you can't claim that guarantee. They don't read or listen when you list off what you need/want. Designs come back wrong - no better way to say that. When you tell them they are wrong, they ask why, as if they don't recall what was discussed, so you have to rewrite everything again for them. This experience has been thoroughly disappointing. After waiting for two weeks, I received an unusable design. It was so bad that even my 8 -year-old son was mocking it. He's an avid Minecraft player who likes building complex homes with elaborate structures and bridges. The design I received looked like a 5-year-old child created it. The instructions, photo inspiration, and site drawings that I provided were entirely ignored. My house and lot looked like a wedge when the rectangular dimensions for the work area were clearly defined in my provided drawings. On top of the half-baked and unusable design, you will receive poor customer service with inadequate and short responses. I received no timeline-specific updates and no clear response. When I complained about my design and asked for a new designer, no information was provided besides a brief statement saying they would find another designer. After that, nothing. The design was quickly removed from their site, or I would have downloaded and posted it with my review. After receiving no clear update on the next steps, I requested a refund within the 30-day period with the option for them to produce a new design by a specific date. No updates. No design. No concern. I patiently tried to work with them, but there is only so much frustration a customer should be expected to face. When I asked to proceed with the refund I requested, as I still had no design, they claimed that the 30-day period had expired, which is false. These people are disingenuous and intentionally try to wait out the 30-day refund period. They refused to issue a refund even when presented with proof that I had already requested the refund. Their strategy of waiting out and ignoring frustrated customers until they give up simply won't work. This business needs to be investigated for questionable and deceptive business practices. I was so excited to use this service. I was assigned to Daizy as my Project Manager. I had my initial phone call with her, gave her some ideas of what we wanted and she got to work. About 10 days later, we got the first draft. Looked pretty good but wanted to make some changes. That's when it started to go south. They allow you to pay extra for unlimited phone calls during your 30 day revision period so I asked to pay for that. She suggested I make my changes via the chat system and that I could pay for the call but she would have to try to "fit me in" due to her changing departments soon. Strike number one. The revisions I had were too many for me to spend the time typing them all so I paid extra for the unlimited phone consultations. I also wanted to make sure I relayed them all to her clearly. I then asked her to make several changes, some of which she did, others she did not. at that point, she also started taking creative liberties and changing things I didn't ask her to change. It was like she purposefully was doing things wrong. We went back and forth multiple times to try and resolve the issues, but she never got it right. As an example, there was a chicken coop that I asked her to remove from the design (I asked her to do this the very first time we spoke) because we were getting rid of it so instead of removing it, she first hid it behind the shed and then to the side of the shed in another revision. Then I get a message from a manager who said Daizy had left and I would have a new project manager. Her name is Emily. Again, Emily And I have gone back and forth and it is still not right. I gave up. It's good enough to hand to the landscapers so I can FINALLY get my project started but not exactly what I wanted. In theory, this is a great service. My design was great for the most part however, because they cannot actually see your yard, they cannot plan for any drainage issues that may arise from the designs. I had to basically tell them myself where they had to put everything for that. Also, very unprofessional of Daizy to tell me she was changing departments so she would have to squeeze me in for calls. You pay a lot of money for this service and it's like pulling teeth. It took almost 2 months to get my design "good enough" to give to my landscapers. Trying to relay changes via the chat system is a pain and can take a long time which is why I opted for the unlimited phone calls. I only got to have a few because the revisions seemed to take longer and longer (two weeks) each time I made one. When you only have 30 days, two weeks is far too long. they did give me extra time as I have said it took almost 2 months but I do believe that is because they know they messed up. I would not recommend unless you have a very straight forward, basic design you are looking for and hopefully you get A project manager that actually LISTENS and does what you ask. read more
