Dying to try this place out as everyone that talks about it loves it, but can be a tough reservation. You can park in the garage just past it on the left as street parking is tough. When you first walk in, you will notice two things - it is very dark and it is very loud. Service was great as we were walked through the menu and got some good suggestions Smoked trout dip - Flavors were on point and perfect with the plaintain chips for dipping Kanpachi ceviche - Great combo with the red onions and not too sweet with the coconut. Corn added some great texture to the dish and could have eaten three of these Baked oysters - Perfectly cooked and so tender with a fun presentation Shrimp dumplings - Great dish but not as great as the other items as the sauce was better than the shrimp Was recommended to get the coconut rice as a side and you need to do the same as it's really good Main issue is the dishes are small (welcome to modern day tapas) and we left a bit hungry. Quick tip - maybe easier to hear sitting at the bar, but if you need good conversation it can be difficult

At Si! Mon, they combine Central American cooking traditions with other cultures that have influenced Panamanian cuisine. From its prime location between Venice's beach and its canals, you are instantly transported to a tropical hideaway. The lively patio is the place to be while grooving to jazzy funky tunes. It's a beautiful tropical space, both spacious and packed, with a courtyard fringed with big green leafy plants. The bar has a palm tree growing out of it that reaches for the sky through a hole in the ceiling. Afro-Caribbean Shrimp Dumplings: My initial impression upon seeing the dumplings was of shumai. I guess I wasn't wrong because dim sum is popular in Panama, likely from the laborers who built their railroad. A massive influx of Afro-Caribbean workers during the canal construction brought dynamic culinary techniques that also left their mark on this dish. The golden bisque is velvety from the coconut milk with dark droplets of flavorful charred scallion oil, and torn mint on top. The bartender recommended matching the dumplings with Coconut Rice. The flavor profiles of the coconut milk running through the rich, sweet, and savory rice are not the only things that make it pair so well. It absorbs the golden bisque like a champ. Fried Chicken Leg: An entire chicken leg, thigh and drumstick, is fried two times for an incredibly crispy shell. The shredded mangos, jicamas, and red bell peppers offer a nice counterpunch of sweet, savory, and tangy flavors to the rich chicken. Pour and dunk the tropical dipping sauce on the chicken. The zing of the charred jalapenos, scallions, and vinegar find their way into the crunchy nooks and crannies of the chicken skin. Parking: There's street parking in the surrounding neighborhood.

I brought my boyfriend here for his birthday last night and we left so happy. I'm really glad we finally came. Si! Mon opened a little over two years ago, and it's chef José Olmedo Carles Rojas's Panamanian and Afro-Caribbean-inspired spot in the old James Beach space in Venice. It's right across from Ospi. I loved the menu format right away. Cold starters on the left, warm starters on the top right, and hot mains on the bottom right. Our server recommended doing about two from each section for two people, and it ended up being the perfect amount. We had the kanpachi ceviche, tuna carpaccio yuca tostada, Afro-Caribbean shrimp dumplings, sweet corn bollo, fried chicken leg, and the kanpachi en banana leaf, and everything was so flavorful. The tuna carpaccio yuca tostada was my favorite by far. The ceviche tasted super fresh, the shrimp dumplings were so delicious, and honestly every dish hit. Service was fast, everyone looked so stylish, and the doorman outside was very kind. It was such a fun, beautiful dinner and we were so glad we came We'll definitely be back.

I can't quite pin point what flavors of which cuisines si Mon is trying to get at but they seem to have nailed every single flavor lol First of vibe is 10/10, we went on a random Tuesday and it was packed. Music was loud and decor was giving Tulum date vibe lol Our waiter was soooo good at recommending dishes. He even circled on the menu for us. The plates are all kind of small so more like a tapas sharing plates so everything was family style. The tuna carpaccio and the surf clam ceviche were super delicious. The corn was also good but I def had better elsewhere. The dumplings were just ok but the sauce in the dumpling was amazing with coconut rice. The kampachi in banana leaf was soooo yummy and was definitely the highlight for me. Drinks were ok imo. The lychee martini was a little salty and the old fashioned was also a bit too sweet. I'd try something else on the menu next time. Overall, a wonderful experience although the portions for everything were kinda small. Will def come back to try more stuff on the menu!

We came here for a birthday celebration for my son. First and foremost the food and service here was excellent! I liked the atmosphere of the place, my only wish was that if it could have been a little bit brighter. We lived the sweet and sour scallops, yucca fries and skirt steak. Really can't go wrong with anything here.

This place was pretty overhyped in my opinion. i felt like it was too crowded and way too dark. we could barely see the menu and turning on a bright phone light would've been really distracting. our waiter was not our favorite either. we felt like he was being way too flirty with our table, trying to upsell us a lot of stuff and whenever we didn't get the food and drinks he recommended, we felt like he turned pretty cold to us and we couldn't get his attention by the end of the night. the portions are also not worth the price. i enjoyed the elote the most because it was richly flavorful but i just wish there was more. the menu just felt a little bit disordered, i didn't see much seafood i wanted to try at a place specializing in seafood. there was always a little line waiting for the restroom too, kind of in the way of everyone. i don't think i will be coming back due to all of these factors.

I had such a great experience at Si! Mon -- it's a super cute spot just steps from the beach, which immediately sets the vibe. Parking was easier than expected for Santa Monica. There's a public lot nearby for about $10, but if you go just past the restaurant, there's a smaller lot for around $6 (this was on a Wednesday before 6pm, so definitely worth checking!). The ambiance is perfectly Santa Monica -- open and airy without being chilly. The warm terracotta walls add a cozy, homey feel that balances the breezy coastal setting. Service was great. Our waiter was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. He had solid recommendations, but we decided to go on our own little food journey -- and it paid off. We started with the tuna carpaccio yuca tostada ($16), which was super light and flavorful. They cut it tableside into four perfect bites -- such a fun touch and a great way to start the meal. Next was the pupusa "revuelta" ($16). It was tasty, though a bit less exciting than the first dish. That said, the "limited supply" note definitely influenced our decision to order it. The standout was the Afro-Caribbean shrimp dumplings ($25). These absolutely lived up to the hype. Our waiter strongly recommended adding a side of coconut rice, and I'm so glad we listened -- the dumplings come in a rich, flavorful sauce that's perfect poured over the rice. The rice itself was delicious, with crispy coconut bits on top. We also tried the Panamanian-style lamb tamal ($23), which was a bold mix of flavors -- sweet from the chutney, tangy from the pickled onions, and herby from the mint and lamb. It was a little intense for me personally, but my friend loved it. We ended with the sticky toffee pudding ($12), which was rich and full of flavor -- a great way to wrap up the meal. For two people, no drinks, and five dishes, it came out to around $100, which feels like a solid value. If I'm in the area and looking for a good bite near the beach, I'd definitely come back!

Came for dinner for a friend's birthday. Ordered everything but the cesar, grilled vegetables, and the chicken, and pork. Service was a bit average to below, 2.5. Very nice but forgot an item we ordered. Served us another tables food, recollected the food and re-served it to the table next to us. Finally, they were unable to serve hot water? Seems a bit odd as an impossible feat to microwave or heat water. Overall food wise, solid 4. All the ceviche were all well done and had great flavor profile. Curry spice sashimi i would pass on. Curry rice with the shrimp dumplings went well together. Really enjoyed the fish, very tender and juicy. Steak had the flavor but was just so tough. Dessert wise, flan was good.

Service was on point. Our server was extremely patient and made sure all of our allergens were covered. The food is grossly over priced for tapas. A lot of nothing but great ambiance. The bubbles champagne fell flat. The cesar salad was tasty with an interesting presentation. The steak was tender and flavorful. The sea bass and fish dip left much to be desired. I must mention though the yucca fries are delicious. Essentially the food, like this review, was all over the place. Great place for social media posters but food is hit or miss.

Located across OSPI in Venice Si! Mon is a Central American restaurant with great Latin cuisine. There's a parking lot across the street or street parking. Everything we ordered was delicious! Our server was great with recommendations, forgot his name but stylish Indian dude. We ordered the curry spiced sashimi, kanpachi ceviche, tuna carpaccio tostada, afro Caribbean shrimp dumplings, cocunut rice, yuca fries (these were unassuming but SO good) sweet corn bollo, Kanpachi en Banana leaf -- this was the crowd pleaser! But everything we ordered was perfect & the dishes just kept getting better. For cocktails the Oaxacan old fashioned was my favorite with chocolate & orange bitters & the Native Son was also a great recommendation by our server. For dessert we did the sticky toffee pudding, would definitely recommend!

Helmed by James Beard semifinalist José Olmedo Carles Rojas (yes, that José Carles of Fonda Lo Que Hay), this Venice gem is serving bold Panamanian-Californian fusion that feels playful, vibrant, and a little indulgent in the best way. We ordered like we meant it: Roasted oysters Shrimp dumplings Sweet corn bollo And the most luscious sticky toffee pudding to end on a high note Every dish was layered, fresh, and made to be shared (or not -- no judgment). The kind of meal where you're already planning your next reservation before dessert hits the table. We appreciated the warm welcome from Raven and Jay was an expert server suggesting the best options for our share plates! Bravo

Nestled in Venice is this South American seafood themed bistro with a large bar severing some interesting drinks. The majority of the restaurant is a canopied courtyard with a small elevated indoor dining room toward the back. Overall the dishes all sounded interesting; but, while they were decent, nothing blew me away. In addition, many of the main dishes seemed a bit overpriced for what we got. For example, $16 sweet corn bollo tastes like a small and simple sweet corn tamale. The skirt steak and the cashew miso aged duck were both decent; but, at $65 and $80, I'd expected something a bit more inspiring. We enjoyed our meal but I can't say it was memorable.

I saw that Si Mon was on the list of 101 best restaurants in LA so I made a reservation for dinner! FLAVOR (4.1/5): 1. KANPACHI CEVICHE: The ceviche was good! The plantain chips were a great pairing and made it fun to eat. 2. TUNA CARPACCIO YUCA TOSTADA: Started off strong with the tuna tostada, which was the best dish of the night. Perfect for sharing between 2 people, although I honestly wish we got another round - they were that good. Smoky, light, and flakey with some bite from the black lime. 3. AFRO-CARIBBEAN SHRIMP DUMPLINGS: The shrimp dumplings were given much praise by others, but to be completely honest, they were a miss for me. The traditional shrimp filling felt disjointed when paired with the latin-inspired sauce. If there were another element to make it more unique and less reminiscent of traditional shrimp dumplings, then I think it would have been a more cohesive dish. Something to note is that they use a thick wrapper - I personally enjoyed it, but my friend did not. I highly recommend getting the coconut rice as a side. It provides a nice savory/sweet balance and the texture of the crispy bits was addicting! 4. TASAJO STYLE CARNE EN PALITO: The steak was good, but after the tuna tostada knocked it out of the park, everything else fell a little flat. I did think the potato cream and horseradish combo was delicious. 5. BRANZINO ASADO: It's a tradition of mine to always order branzino if I see it on the menu. Sí Mon's was good and packed with flavor, but unfortunately, it wasn't enough to knock Bavel's branzino from the top ranking. In terms of our mains for the night, I think the branzino slightly edged out the steak. 6. COCONUT FLAN: The flan was just ok. It was too sweet for my taste. I also prefer an almost jello/pudding texture for my flan, while this one was closer to a creamy cheesecake. SERVICE (4/5): The service was good - wait times in between dishes were a little long, but the service overall was very efficient. Table turnover was fast and water refills were noticed quickly by bussers. AMBIENCE (4/5): Low-lighting and can get a little loud. Good for date night, especially on a first date if you don't want them to see you very well. PARKING (3/5): I believe they have valet, but I found street parking. TAKEAWAYS: Overall, I did enjoy Si Mon, particularly for their appetizers. The tuna tostada was the highlight of the night and outshined all the other dishes. Would I come back? Possibly. Let me start by saying I wish I could give this restaurant a 10! This was easily the best food I've had in California in a long time. I'm incredibly proud of Chef José, a Panamanian chef who is showcasing our Latin flavors on the international stage. Seeing Panamanian cuisine represented with this level of creativity and quality is truly special. We ordered around seven plates to share, and every single dish impressed us. The sweet corn bollo... OMG! The sweetness and the flavor instantly transported me back to Panama. It was comforting, authentic, and unforgettable. The ceviche was another highlight -- a perfect mix of acidity, freshness, and seasoning that let the seafood shine. Overall, it was an incredible experience that reminded me how powerful food can be in connecting cultures. The seafood was exceptionally fresh and full of flavor on all of the dishes that we tried. The tuna carpaccio yuca tostada was outstanding -- the perfect balance of crunch from the yuca and the delicate, high-quality tuna. Loved the mature, elegant yet beachy Venice Beach vibe. Service was friendly. The food and drinks were mostly interesting and delicious. I especially loved the Little Neck Clam & Uni Shooter, Baked Oysters with Dungeness Crab Guacho and Crispy Pork Belly--great quality of ingredients. However, unfortunately the Miso-Aged Duck was unable. It was cooked blue rare, which I don't mind since I love raw meat, but the problem was the skin. Duck skin needs to be properly cooked--crispy, rendered, or other treatment. Instead, it was chewy and gristly, making it hard to swallow. Maybe it was just an off night, but honestly, I'd prefer my own shio-koji (the mother of miso) cured duck any day. We also weren't into the "all-natural, new-age" wine list. May be we'll come back for the cocktails and that Clam & Uni Shooter. read more

A vibey place for dinner with low ambient light, well-crafted cocktails, and really tasty shareable plates. Ambient lighting is pretty dim so you might need a flashlight, just fyi . The service was amazing, complementing the beautiful plating and bold flavors of the dishes, and the crafted cocktails. The price point is on the higher side but everything is shareable. Baked oysters - 5/5 - the best oysters I've ever had hands down incredible depth of flavor. This is what a fun, tasty, premium dining experience should be. First every staff is friendly and welcoming. Truly. From the host desk to the server to the bar to the chef. Jennifer helped us decide on six dishes to share between two people. Each dish was thoughtful, delicious and artfully presented. It's laid back but attentive service. Premium food and exquisite dishes done with the warmth of home cooking. The ambiance is cool, sexy, fun, alive. No notes here. Got to meet Chef Jose and had an engaging conversation on his vision for his food and his favorite dishes. Will be back. Finally a dining experience worthy of LA. read more

Every single thing I got here was incredible. I loved it so much the first time, that I came back the next week, and now booked it again! Must get the smoked trout fish dip, kanpachi wrapped in Banana leaf WITH the coconut rice, the baked oysters, Afro Cuban shrimp dumplings, and the curry spiced hamachi sashimi. My friend loved the tuna carpaccio yuca tostada. It is an absolute incredible dining experience. The cocktail selection is so unique and every friend ordered a different one! I cannot wait to go back. THIS is what a quality meal should be. I very much missed James' Beach but I'm SO grateful Si! Mon is here. read more

Let's start with the most fundamental part of a restaurant: the food. This is the best duck I have had this side of the Mississippi. Everything else was good. Now for what people in Venice actually care about. It's a hodgepodge of jungle foliage with ancient looking funerary urns / vessels. The uplighting is especially delicate. We were confused why many things were creamy and white, but in the end they all actually tasted delicious. Also they did make holes in their roof for palm trees and made us feel like we were at a Mesopotamian bazaar so points for ambiance. Plus there are no rattan pennants. Overall if you're looking for small plates in Venice with a vibe that says "you're in Venice" then this is a great spot for you. Must like seafood. read more

OH WOW. Take me back. This place is a Panamanian-inspired menu features a lot of fresh seafood and uniquely spiced dishes. We ordered the kanpachi ceviche, tuna carpaccio yuca tostada, curry spiced sashimi, sweet corn bollo, shrimp dumplings, and hanger steak. Everything was INCREDIBLE. Such a wonderful birthday dinner with my girlfriend! The food is beyond flavorful, some of the best seafood I have had thus far and well worth the higher price point. The bar program is also exceptional, I would go back for a drink or to sit at the bar any day. Definitely recommend the ceviche (either one) and to drink the sherry carajillo is perfect for a dessert drink. Probably the best carajillo I have had! I'm still trying to recreate it at my bar. Service was wonderful and our gal was so sweet and helpful. I'll definitely be back sooner than later! read more

Great spot for food and summer vibes. Catch up with friends, go on a date or I even saw families with a kid or two. I made a reservation for 5pm on a Wednesday night just a few days prior. The restaurant was pretty empty for the first ~45 min but by 6pm it was absolutely buzzing/packed. - Native Son cocktail (4/5) : Strong, alcohol-forward blend with a wonderful toasted coconut flavor. I didn't really catch the mango brandy but it was delicious nonetheless. - Curry Spiced Sashimi (3/5) : Smooth like butter and the curry was not too overpowering but probably wouldn't order again. - Kanpachi Ceviche (5/5) : Amazing. Plantain chips perfectly crispy and easy to scoop up the leche de tigre and fish cubes. Very fresh, bright and flavorful. - La Cesar Salad (3/5) : Ok.. Nothing special. - Baked Oysters (1/5) : Totally not worth $36 for 6 oysters and the shredded coconut texture was kind of weird. Lacked some acidity/brightness. - Sweet Corn Bollo (4/5) : A little too sweet for me but well made super smooth tamale with tasty toppings. - Grilled Pork Collar (5/5) : Huge serving and perfectly cooked. Meat was juicy, tender and well seasoned. I can only describe collar as a hybrid of belly and loin except the fat is better dispersed. I also was obsessed with the sauteed loroco (flower) buds Parking: Paid lot/garage and some street parking about 2-3 blocks further away from the beach. read more

Very nice dining experience. Food was top notch. We got the coconut ceviche 10/10, Cesar was unique in flavor and the greens were fresh. We also got the pupusa which was served very hot with a sour cream, salsa, and cabbage. To finish we had the hangar steak which was amazing. Overall it was great and the food restaurant is very nice inside. read more

Had been hearing about this place so I went with friends on a Saturday night, it was easy to book a reservation on Resy. The ambiance is very cool and dimly lit with 2 sides of the restaurant and bar. The service was great, our waiter was kind and super knowledgeable of the menu. My favorite was the ceviche and the steak. All small plates are to be shared so you do end up ordering a lot if you're with a big party. I enjoyed the mezcal drinks but was disappointed at the small dessert menu. Overall, it's a cool spot in a great location in Venice! read more

Absolutely loved this place. We ordered the ceviche, lamb, and dumplings -- every dish was so good and full of flavor. The food felt elevated but still comforting. The vibe was great, and the service was attentive without being overbearing. Definitely a spot I'll be coming back to. Highly recommend. read more

Stumbled upon this place while on a walk with my friend and we decided to go check it out. The restaurant is indoor / outdoor with a Spanish ambiance and lots of greenery. It even has a open sky roof with palm trees peaking though. Such a nice, chill vibe. We weren't really hungry but ordered the kanpachi ceviche which had coconut milk in it and came with plantain chips. It was amazing. We also ordered the patacones which is similar to tostones but fluffier. It came with two sauces: garlic and herb and a spicy red sauce. I didn't have my ID so unfortunately couldn't order any of the delicious cocktails on the menu. Next time! read more

Latin American food craving satisfied! I love this spot as the options are equally as delicious. First, try their Afro-Caribbean Shrimp Dumplings which are delicious with every bite. You must also try their Tuna Carpaccio Yuca Tostada or the Branzino Asado. The flavors of both these items will have your cravings satisfied. The staff is excellent and is always willing to help with any suggestions or questions. read more

First visit to Si! Mon was a success...I went for a weekday dinner with a friend and we took our waiter's lead and ordered atleast one item from each section of the menu The menu is limited but good quality items and some unique Panamanian inspired dishes we hadn't tried before. Dish highlights were the tostada, pork belly and chocolate yogurt dessert The only critique is we felt some of the dishes came in at a pretty high price point for the amount of food that was given and there are comparable dishes elsewhere they give larger portions with similar flavors The ambience was stunning and a great spot for date night or a girls night out We also ordered each of the tequila cocktails which were delicious and refreshing Overall we'd come back to try other menu items and cocktails read more

After seeing "LA Infatuation (newsletter)" gave this restaurant an 8.6, I had to see for myself what made S!Mon so deserving. Graciously greeted at the door and was seated in the plant filled patio side of the space. It was a damp night and we were happy to be near the fireplace. Our very polite server advised 5 - 7 dishes for the 2 of us to share, depending on the size of the items we chose. We chose 5 and could have tucked into a 6th, but left feeling satisfied not stuffed. The portions are smallish for the price, but that is the norm around Venice & Santa Monica. We really loved the vibrant fresh herby flavors. Surf Clam Ceviche was delicious, I was literally sipping the sauce from a spoon once the clams were gone. Afro-Caribbean Shrimp Dumplings & Dungeness Crab Gaucho were both winners. Kanpachi smothered in sauce with kaffir lime and served on a banana leaf was a decent size piece of fish. Marinated Apple & Pear Salad with Endive had a hint of sweetness and was a good compliment to everything else we ordered. Cocktails were the weak spot for us. The Little Rituals ($20) was so very light, it lacked flavor and I didn't catch even a subtle note of the palo santo. Soft Core ($19) didn't really taste like whisky at all although the presentation with a small square of banana leaf floating atop a large ice cube with a a few tiny pieces of pop corn was inventive. Next time I'd try a glass of wine or cider and my BF would stick to Cerveza. Definitely a place I'd return to and am glad to have some more variety on the west side. read more

Had high hopes for this place and had been wanting to try it for a few months, but unfortunately it fell short for me. Food was good but not memorable. Kanpachi ceviche stood out and the baked oysters were also one of the better dishes, but still not mind-blowing. Tuna tostada and shrimp dumplings with coconut rice leaned a bit salty. The Camino del Sol (their most popular cocktail) was too sweet for me - prob would've preferred the white negroni or spritz. Even the house "OG" hot sauce was pretty underwhelming. The coconut flan for dessert with the toasted coconut bits on top was surprisingly deeeelish. Prices were on the high side for share plates but was expected for this place. Service was where things went south. We arrived on time but our table wasn't ready, so we waited at the bar where the bartender was great and helped me pick a drink. Once seated, small things started adding up: my mom struggled with her chair and no one offered assistance; another party was seated right next to us despite several open tables for two that stayed empty the entire night; because they were seated so close, there was a mix-up where our order was delivered to the table next to us, and we had to point it out ourselves after they were about to receive a second order of the same dish. The server apologized, and a manager came by, acknowledged the issue, and offered to get us anything else, which we appreciated, but there wasn't any follow-through afterward. We added dessert later, but there was no further acknowledgment of the earlier mix-up. Our server was also largely absent throughout all of this and never acknowledged the mix-up, which added to the overall sense of lack of follow-through. Ambiance is strong but we didn't get the booth we requested and hoped for on our reservation. Parking is typical for Venice - street or nearby lots. Overall, glad I tried it, but I'd probably only come back for a quick drink or bite at the bar. read more

Loved my experience at Si! Mon. My family is Panamanian so when I heard about this establishment in LA, I knew I had to visit. It has been on our list for a couple weeks or so and when a friend's birthday dinner was canceled, I requested a Resy notification for an Global Dining Access opening and we were able to snag one at the perfect time. The experience started at the valet next door when they were quick to open both of our doors and check the car for any damage before taking it away. They also opened both of our doors when departing. We were greeted by security at the entrance and then seated immediately though arriving a few minutes early. The ambience was, warm and beautiful. Our waitress (Kaitlin?) was absolutely lovely and very attentive. We received new plates and silverware for each of us between each course and every dish came with the proper serving utensils. This may sound small but I dine at plenty of pricier establishments and this is not always the case. I plan small gatherings personally and large scale experiences for one of the top tech companies in the world, so I pay attention to these details and they make all the difference for me. The hospitality here was top notch which I was very impressed by. As far as the food -- every single thing we got was delicious. The flavor profiles were spot on and tasted so familiar to me but in some new and inventive ways. For my drink - I got the Way Back and had to order 2 because it was so delicious. We started with the kanpachi ceviche with plantain chips, got the shrimp dumplings with coconut rice, shared the branzino and the duck, and finished off with the Raspao. Literally everything was delectable. I can't wait to visit again -- especially to try the trout dip, sweet potatoes, & pork belly next time -- and bring my family members when they're in town. And if this place is ever looking for a local ambassador, I'd be first to put my name on the list. read more

This is a really great spot to try once, but not sure I'll be back. The ambience was amazing, though there are two sides - one with more light/open air with covering and one darker/louder - and I was in the lighter side. The portion sizes for the food was small, but the waiter is very upfront about this an helps guide you to order enough from the menu. The starters were the best (dumplings, ceviche, carpaccio). We didn't love the duck (too many pieces were too chewy or steak. The chicken leg was the best main. We missed on all 4 of the drinks we ordered, none of us enjoyed them, but they are all very unique / wouldn't find these cocktails in many places. All in all, the food was fine but with the prices, I would expect more. Drinks were not our style. Ambience, vibe, and service were all amazing. Valet park next to the restaurant for $15. Otherwise good luck finding street parking or just uber! read more

Lovely experience! Situated in Venice, this cozy restaurant has numerous dining areas, and the ambiance is very chic: a combination of 70s flair meets modern, with knowledgeable service and great music. The Food leans largely pescatarian, with some meat and vegetarian options. We didn't get to try everything we hoped to (this time), but really enjoyed the corn bollo (tamale), ceviche, and whole roasted branzino. The baked oysters and shrimp dumplings sounded amazing, but we'll have to have that next time. Don't skip out on the cocktail menu: I had a mocktail that blew my mind: cardamom, eggwhite, and all kinds of other savory things I can't remember, but came together perfectly. Parking lot next door, or valet options. Can't wait to return! read more

Came here with Bear for his birthday--so glad we did! Beautiful spot and super nice service. Here's what we ordered: Tuna Carpaccio Yuca Tostada Afro-Caribbean Shrimp Dumplings Coconut Rice Baked Oysters Fried Chicken Drumsticks Tasajo Style Carne En Palito Everything was delicious, but the Tuna Carpaccio Yuca Tostada was incredible! I'm not gonna say it was the best thing I've ever tasted but it was definitely the best food experience I've had. Each bite is a whole experience. That's the best way I can put it. I also had the Garden Variety cocktail, it was beyond delicious! Can't wait to come back. read more

My biggest restaurant disappointment of 2024. This place is beautiful and the service was good. Friendly staff. Didn't feel rushed at all. The food...dumplings and coconut rice totally mediocre. Green bananas flavorless and served with a side of salsa that was a bowl of garlic in oil. But, the worst, the duck. Our server sold us on the $80 duck and we waited excitedly. A bit later a plate of raw duck shows up. Looks like duck carpaccio. We actually found it inedible. And, sadly, no offer to remove it from the bill. Go for a drink at the bar, skip the food. read more

I really liked this spot, kids less so. Service was great. Interior was a little loud for me, but outside sounded quieter. Here's what he had: Smoked fish dip with plantains and roe on top. I really liked the dip, the pickles and other pickled veggies were unnecessary. The taro and plantain chips were good. Curry carpaccio. I really liked the curry. Didn't think I'd like the mushroom oil, I usually dislike truffle oil on fish, but this was nothing like that. Sauce made the dish. African shrimp dumplings. Also enjoyable, the dumplings were fine, nothing spectacular, but I really enjoyed the sauce. We added the coconut rice which the kids and I really liked. Kanpachi in banana leaf - cooked kanpachi with a great sauce. I liked this better than the kids. Meaty fish and nice sauce. Ribs were had by the meat eaters and sauce was enjoyed. The sauce they add is spicy as are the pickled veggies, which I like, but spicier than you might think. read more

This place is real. The ambiance is ideal for a date - very pleasant, dim lighting with fantastic layout. I was there with friends and had a great time but also highly recommend it for an intimate dining experience. I was even more impressed by the waitress and hostess. They were extremely personable and approachable. I had dinner reservations at 7:45 and I get there right on the dot, and they immediately sat me down without having me wait (and it was absolutely a packed night). The food was fantastic. Just keep portions in mind. They're very tasteful, small dishes - so plan on ordering a few things. The star of the show was absolutely the uni shooters. I highly recommend ordering it. ...just order the uni shooters. read more

Classic Venice vibes. Nondescript entrance, every dish delicious, and lighting so low you can barely see the person next to you. That's Venice! Seriously, it was so dark in there, I thought my eyes would never be able to adjust to light again. But perhaps that was done so that my sense of taste could be heightened for all of the wonderful food that we had. The highlight was definitely the steak and coconut rice. All of the sauces that came with every dish had so much flavor and depth. Make it a night and splurge the $1 for the homemade hot sauce for that extra kick. I'm about to sound real old here, but in addition to being super dark, the sound was bouncing off the walls making it so loud that we all had to strain our ears to hear the server. That, and it was freezing. I still have no idea why places blast the AC when it's 50 out and you're a block from the Pacific. Anyway, now that my inner granny had her say, the food, the decor, and the atmosphere were all what you'd expect from a top tier Venice restaurant. Just wish I could see more of it! read more

Had to check this place out for a birthday, cuz how often can you say you've had Panamanian seafood? This place exceeded my expectations food-wise, just don't order dessert or come here if you want good lighting / hear your friends on the other side of the table. Reservations: easy to get online, tables up to 6 available online Ambience: very dark and loud music, definitely a vibe Drinks: cocktails all unique and did not disappoint! Food: all the dishes we had were good, albeit small. We ordered the 2 cerviches available (kanpachi and clam) and was impressed that the plantain chips came as different shapes. Ended up ordering more of the cute round ones (they do charge extra) to try and soak up more of the delicious sauce. The shrimp dumplings were good but TINY considering you're paying $25 for 4 dumplings (would not order based on size you get for the price; they also charged us $30 for it so make sure you check your receipt!). Crispy pork belly was delish and easy to share. Kanpachi wrapped in banana leaf was also amazing flavor, and the fried chicken had a unique texture to it, would re order! Dessert: a disappointment to the end of a fab meal, kinda wished we hadn't ordered any at all. There were only 2 choices and we got both-- Shaved ice came with SAUCES (no actual fruit as we thought it would come with, would NOT have ordered if this had been clear)... any Asian shaved ice place will have better. The yogurt with coconut nibs was...interesting, but got boring after 2 bites. Come check it out! Free street parking available in the neighborhoods on a Friday night. PS excuse the dark photos. We came here for a friend's birthday dinner on Valentine's Day with a 7:15p reservation. Street parking is awful, but there is a valet lot next door that's $15. They won't seat you until at least half of the party is there (there were 5 of us), so we had a drink while we waited for the rest of the group. The drinks are SO GOOD, my fave was the Garden Variety. This place is tapas style, so keep that in mind. The only thing that blew me away was the ceviche, so fresh and light, I could've drank it for real. Everything else was just okay! Nothing that I would be dying to return for. After dinner & drinks, it was about $100/person. This isn't too crazy, especially in LA, but I left hungry, and we ordered 9 plates. The highlight of the night was definitely the service, Ivy was so sweet and helpful! read more

Vibes are vibing. Was so excited about this fresh new concept that was heading into the old James Beach spot. They really did an incredible job on the buildout alone..the restaurant is beautiful and well thought out. Design-wise they nailed in, you feel enveloped, in a good way. As others have mentioned, they like it dark in here. While I don't mind that at all, I have to say- it's got to be one of the most irritating things to have people putting their iPhone flashlights on full blast to read their menus. Therefore blinding others around them. If you can't read the menu, turn your iPhone brightness up & use your actual screen to appropriately light your menu. We got blasted multiple times by inconsiderate people. Management should maybe offer people a more elegant option to use such as a book light. It literally kind of tainted our experience. Food was inventive and lovely, our favorite dishes by far were the kanpachi cooked in banana leaf & the coconut rice (easy to miss at the bottom but a must). We are looking forward to trying everything on the menu during future visits. The cocktails are pretty good but I don't think worth the $20 each price point here. They have a lot of cool skin-contact wine options which is refreshing though. Overall, a gorgeous spot that we are excited to visit again. read more

Came here a few nights ago and really enjoyed it. The ambience is very welcoming with nice decor and dim lighting. Found easy street parking. Our main server was very nice and helpful with recommendations. Other staff were also very attentive and welcoming. The food was really good and it is clear that the chef puts a lot of love into making the experience very enjoyable. They recommend between 5-7 dishes for 2 people, but we ordered 4 dishes and a side dish and dessert and that was a good amount. We had the curry spiced sashimi, Afro-Caribbean shrimp dumplings (favorite) with a side of coconut rice, jerk prawns and the fried chicken drumsticks. For drinks, we tried the espresso martini (substituted the vodka for reposado) and the smoke show (tequila cocktail). For dessert, we shared a cacao dessert that was pretty tasty and enough to share. Been wanting to try this place since they opener (pretty recently). Even though new to the game, Si!Mon absolutely impressed. Everything was wonderful from the ambiance to the service to the incredible food. Drinks were delicious. We ordered the curried sashimi, shrimp dumplings, drumsticks, and oysters and all of it was delicious and memorable. Standouts being the dumplings and oysters. I'd love to come back and try more of it. So happy more new and exciting restaurants are in the area! read more

One of my favorite places to come back to. I've already commented on the people, vibe, and dishes. One of the other things that sets them apart is continuing to evolve the menu. For a regular diner if a small menu never changes there's only so often you're going to come back for a full dinner. Several new entries on the menu include fish collars that eat like crispy/fatty chicken wings (yum but watch out for bones), a lamb tamale that is deep in flavor, and two new entrees that have spectacular accompaniments. The skirt steak comes with bone marrow beans and the pork chop is served atop a funky tangy sauce to dredge it through. Without the attachments these are both just well cooked proteins but together they are another unique and delicious offering from Si! Mon. I will miss some of my old faves but excited to try what they invent next. read more

The mussels were huge, juicy, and packed with flavor. I was also very impressed by the miso black cod. It came with mushrooms in a rich miso sauce that paired perfectly with rice. Everything tasted comforting and well-balanced. Our server was also very thoughtful and friendly. He split the clam chowder into four smaller portions for our group, which made it much easier to share. One thing to note: the seafood market opens early, but the restaurant itself opens at 11 AM. And if you end up loving the fish from your meal, you can actually buy the same fresh marinated fish directly from the market to take home. Such a cool concept!

Instead, when I spoke with a manager, the response was essentially that he was focused on the bar area. Good management oversees the entire operation, especially during peak periods. I was one of 5 people in our party who spent around $100 on food and drinks (apx $500 spent in total), yet the service was a mess. If it's self-service, that's fine...but make it clear and make it work. Instead, I was skipped at the bar while ordering, staff gave conflicting directions, and there was virtually no support once we had our food. We found ourselves constantly going back and forth to the bar for drinks, utensils, soy sauce, and anything else we needed. No one checked in, and getting help from staff or management was nearly impossible. The food was decent, but the customer experience wasn't. Venice Beach is always busy. This shouldn't come as a surprise. If you're going to market yourself as part of that vibrant community, you need the operational standards to match.

The hot soy milk was fine, it came in a mug (I was expecting a bowl). It also doesn't have the strong soy milk flavor I like. The daikon rice cakes were soft and crispy, and came with a soy sauce and spicy sauce. The Dan Bing was the highlight of the meal! The skin was freshly made, the texture was perfect, and it had a good amount of toppings. It was also quite nice for its price. It reminds me of the Dan Bing I ate back in Taiwan. Definitely give this place a shot to try out some Taiwanese breakfast!

The indoor space is chic, lively, and warm, featuring low lighting, a beautiful bar, and comfortable chairs. The outdoor area is beautifully decorated, open, and inviting, with its own bar. The menu is highly creative, blending some of my favorite Latin and Asian spices, flavors, and cooking techniques. Hands down, the best item we ordered was the kanpachi ceviche--creamy, with the perfect balance of acidity and crunch, bursting with flavor. Visually stunning, it was served with the best plantain chips I have ever had. My second favorite dish was the sweet corn bollo, presented tamale-style with pecorino, mantequilla, guajillo chili oil, and crispy corn. The shrimp dumpling was immersed in a delicious coconut bisque, complemented by charred scallion oil and herbs. However, the dumpling itself lacked the soft, cloud-like texture I was expecting and was denser than usual. Our server suggested pairing it with coconut rice, and I agree--the creamy bisque needed the rice to soak up its rich flavors. The costillitas baby back ribs were coated in a crispy jerk rub and served with charred jalapeño vinegar. The highlight of this dish was the crispiness of the ribs, balanced by the sauce that helped mellow the bold spices. The crispy pork belly and beans was a stunning dish--perfectly cooked pork belly with a layer of crispiness and tender meat. The accompanying sauce was delicious but could have used more acidity to balance the fattiness of the pork.
