If you are looking for interesting flavor profiles & electric atmosphere, definitely give Si! Mon a try. For a Friday night, it's no surprise that the ambiance was energetic, which often times translates to loud. That being said, the furnishings created an upscale but relaxed atmosphere that added to the experience. Our server was knowledgeable and helpful while we ordered, offering helpful descriptions and suggestions. For a party of three, two dishes from each of the three menu sections was sufficient to go home satisfied. In every dish, it was clear that the flavors, textures, and components were thoughtfully considered and meticulously executed. Every plate I tried just worked; cohesive, interesting, and most importantly - tasty. Curried Spiced Sashimi: The texture and quality of the fish was the star of the dish. The curry mushroom oil was not overpowering, but added the perfect subtlety of spice and flavor to complement the hamachi. Tuna Carpaccio Yuca Tostada: Recommended by our server as a dish not to miss, the tostada had a variety of textures and flavors that came together into a homogenous experience. The cachucha pepper aioli bridged the texture of the crispy tostada against the tender tuna. It was a bit difficult to share, to get a clean cut through both the tuna and the tostada where the fish risked sliding off. Sweet Corn Bollo: This was my "worth it winner" of the meal. After a slight disappointment that the pupusas were 86, our server suggested the bollo as a replacement. The bursts of flavor from the corn was sweet and savory, combined with a delightfully creamy texture of the natilla. While I'll definitely be back to give the pupusa a try, this was a pleasant surprise that wasn't in my initial order. Afro Caribbean Shrimp Dumplings: Another incredibly cohesive dish. The coconut broth kept me going back for more, especially with the crispy rice served on the side. The side of rice allowed no broth to go to waste, even after we had polished off the dumplings. The dumplings had great structural integrity, the filling dense and hearty. Sometimes dumplings can fall apart before they reach your mouth - this was not the case, which really allowed me to get the intended experience. Nance Marinated Pork Chop: This was the only dish that didn't stand up against the rest of them. While I did get a middle piece, I was hoping that the pork chop would be a bit more tender. My friend who got the fat cap disagreed with me. The garlic cabbage on the other hand would work as its own dish - there was a quiet smokiness to its flavor and the cook on it allowed the cabbage to maintain some of its crunch which made it texturally pleasing as well. Patacones: These came out last, which felt a bit misplaced given they were a fries style appetizer. They were crispy on the edges, a little soft and chewy in the middle which is exactly what I like. I've never had it before, but Panamanian food is off the hook, yo! Venice is a slog from Pasadena, but it was well worth the drive. We chanced parking in the lot to the east. Due to upgrades, the pay stations had been removed, so it was unclear if we were allowed to park there or not...but fortunately we didn't get a ticket. YMMV. On to the actual restaurant! The highlight of the cocktail menu was "The Funky Funk", which featured parmesan washed rum. It sounds strange, but somehow it worked and was the best sip of the night. The Clover Dubb was great for a NA cocktail, as well. For food, the branzino was our favorite main--perfectly cooked, deliciously spiced, and with a fun set of condiments. The surf clam ceviche was also a highlight--we drank down the leche de tigre before letting the server take the dish. Wow, I read so many reviews about this place and it was featured in multiple articles so I was super excited to try it. Central American cuisine. Parking was only mildly challenging, parked a couple blocks away. Really beautiful ambiance inside, nicely decorated. Dim lighting, pardon the blurriness of some of my photos - I didn't want to be that person with the flash. Cool bar inside too, it looks like you're looking into a mirror, but it's actually the other side of the bar. They only seat you when your whole party has arrived, so I was directed to sit at the bar. I sat at the bar for over 15 minutes without the bartender ever giving me the menu or saying hi. I was pretty surprised and my first impression was starting to grow sour. Eventually, someone else came by, asking if I'd been helped, I said no and desperately asked for a drink menu. I ordered a glass of pet nat (sparkling). Honestly, not good, would not recommend. Maybe a personal preference, but I've had pet nats before and loved them. Eventually we were seated once my friend came. We ordered a few things and split everything. 4 dishes were plenty for 2 ppl. Tuna Carpaccio Yuca Tostada: This is one of their most popular dishes. I can see why! It's a really interesting and different take on carpaccio. You still get the thinly sliced carpaccio but it's on a delicious cracker. Wonderful combo. Afro-Caribbean Shrimp Dumplings: Thought these were okay, they didn't wow me and they were kind of cold. Kanpachi en Banana Leaf: The fish is generously topped with herbs so it's quite flavorful. I found it a bit too salty, though. Fried Chicken Drumsticks: Very crispy since it's double fried. Comes with a side of spicy ketchup with pairs with it nicely. Thought these were good. First timer here, my daughter has been talking about this place for a long time. It was in my bucket list to visit. I am glad I did the food is amazingly delicious. The portions are very small they're meant to be shared with your friends and or family. Their menu changes depending on the time of year and your visit. One of the best dining experiences I have had in Los Angeles. Service was impeccable. Upon delivery, each dish was described and given a suggested way of eating for optimal enjoyment. The atmosphere was lively and upbeat, and even though we were served by multiple bartenders, they were all friendly and very attentive. I found out about si! Mon from infatuation LA. Let me tell you, it is an experience being here. The vibes are amazing. The restaurant is dimly lit and feels intimate. I easily made reservations through Resy. Parking was tough so I would recommend giving yourself ample time to do so. My table was not ready when I arrived so I grabbed a drink at the bar. I'm not much of a tequila nor mezcal drinker so I asked the bartender if he could sub a liquor out. Since most of their liquors are infused, the bartender instead made me a custom drink called intro to aperol: made with gin, aperol, lemon and bitters. It was delicious! The drink tasted lightly sweet and was perfectly balanced. We ordered the tuna tostada, curry hamachi ceviche and the shrimp dumplings. The tuna tostada(9/10) is a must order! It is incredible. It is light yet rich in flavor and texture. I thoroughly enjoyed how crispy it was. The curry hamachi(7.75/10): The curry sauce serves as the perfect savory complement to the fresh cut of fish. It was good but for the price, I wouldn't get it again. Lastly, the curry dumplings(9.5/10) are insane. It had me wanting to lick the plate clean. The dumpling texture was a bit tough but the sauce saved it. It reminded me of a savory Vietnamese beef stew (Bo kho) but more citrusy. It was however, served luke warm and I would've preferred it to be hotter. Overall, I get the hype of this restaurant and would come back in a heartbeat. Service is quick, helpful and friendly. My friend and I came here for dinner on New Year's Eve. I used to come to this spot quite a bit when it was James Beach, so we were excited to check this place out. The inside was beautiful and we sat by the Christmas tree, which was still up lol. I love how you can still bring dogs into the restaurant too. The food was incredible. We shared dishes, and our server recommended 4-5 for the table. We had the patacones, sweet corn bollo, kanpachi ceviche, tuna carpaccio and the gaucho. It was more than enough for 2 people. While I would recommend all of them, the 2 that really stood out were the ceviche and the gaucho - which was a savory porridge. Our server was very attentive and helpful with recommendations. Throughout the evening, they began clearing tables for the late night celebration. Our table was the last one on the main floor, and the general manager came over to apologize for leaving us alone on an island. A MUST try if you're in Southern California. Everything has so much flavor. They were all complex with different textures. Far from boring. I just wish I had a bigger stomach to eat it all! All of the drinks were also tasty. Service was great. Ambiance was very romantic with dim lights. I think our favorite was the ceviche. Came here with a group of 7 for business and really enjoyed the excellent food and drinks at Si! Mon. A few of us started off with drinks at the bar and I had the Way of the Road cocktail and Boomtown Bad Hombre (highly recommend the Way of the Road). For dinner, we started off with a round of the Little neck clam and Uni shooters (amazing) followed by surf clam ceviche, baked oysters, costillitas, afro-caribbean shrimp dumplings, tasajo style carne en palito, and crispy pork belly with beans. Every dish was so delicious and flavorful. If I could only choose three items that are a "must try", I would recommend the clam and uni shooter, the crispy pork belly (when available), and the Tasajo style carne en palito. As other reviews mentioned, the portions are small and meant for sharing (exception was the crispy pork belly as that had a large serving). We also got the coconut rice to go with our meal and it was also good but not a mandatory side to include. For dessert we finished off with Sticky toffee pudding that comes a la mode. It was delicious but definitely not as special as the entrees. Service at the bar and at our table were good. Expect it to be pretty loud (it was on a Tuesday night). Public parking is right across the street for a flat rate of $5. Great spot for bringing guests from out of town. read more

Kanpachi fish with coconut rice also full of flavor; reminded me of Thai flavors too. Vibes are fab and decor is photo-worthy. Service was really good. There are both indoor and outdoor portion, and also looks like a semi private area for larger parties. This place looks well designed for dates, couples, and friends catching up. Probably better for seats of 2 than a large group IMO. It's quite loud inside (music) so that could be a good thing if you're not the chatty type, or if you want to make someone lean in to hear you ;) Can't beat the location. Went to this eatery twice. Once for dinner and once for brunch. The experiences could not be any more bipolar.  Dinner was great. The food, the service, the vibe. All of it was on point. Place was packed, the energy was great, the service was attentive and the menu quite diverse. The cocktail list was also satisfying.  Brunch was a massive disappointment. The place was, at peak brunch time,  empty (our res was for 1PM). The food menu is very limited and there was no vibe to speak of. The service was perhaps the biggest, saddest issue. Uninterested, evasive, inattentive. Food, just like at dinner, was a hit. The pour of my mimosa was, at most, 5oz.  This place makes ZERO modifications nor considers ANY special requests that would deviate from the food menu. We wanted to get a couple orders of yuca fries (on our brunch visit) but we got a concrete and definite no as that is not on the menu yet they serve them with the burger.  Again, the place was empty... Came for a somewhat early dinner at around 6 and after driving around the area a bit for parking, made it in. The vibe feels very airy, Tulum-y, and like a bungalow. They focus on tapas-style dishes but while some are true tapas, some are actually pretty big in portions. After taking our drink orders, which I highly recommend Way of the Road, the server came back to take our food order. I recommend ~2 dishes per person. The server said 3 but we were stuffed with 5 total dishes between the two of us. I recommend: - Tuna Carpaccio Yuca Tostada - a unique dish where they cut the tostada at the table, with a thin slide of tuna and an unctuous aioli. Delish! - Shrimp Dumplings - just a burst of flavor, wrapper is a bit thick but other than that, it packed a punch - Coconut Rice - not necessarily a dish but it also had so much warmth in just a bowl of rice. I could have bowls and bowls of it. The other things we had were fine: Fried chicken, carrot salad, and the kampachi ceviche. They could be supporting actors. I'd still recommend going. If you are looking for something quieter, try to get there early. It got very loud towards the end of our meal and honestly, I could hear my friend from across the table. Fabulous cocktails as well from Jerom, previously with the Georgian Hotel and Accomplice Bar. Jerom's created a great cocktail menu and recruited a talented bar staff to implement the menu. The dishes I've had were top notch. The Dungeness crab guacho, a Panamanian rice based stew with sweet pepper, rum, and aji chombo was excellent. The market citrus tostada w/ cashew butter, benne, avocado & pomegranate was delicious, as was the kanpachi en banana leaf. The tuna carpaccio yuca tostada and corn ceviche were good, but my favorite app was the green banana patacones. The fried chicken drumsticks were fine. Service was great, even on crowded evenings. Visited Si Mon for my boyfriend and I's 8 year anniversary. Food was good but nothing spectacular. Restaurant is very very loud and kind of clubby due to the dark ambiance, close tables, and loud music. On my reservation, I said we'd be celebrating an anniversary and asked to be sat at a nice table. I understand this restaurant is busy, however we were sat by the bar in between two large parties and could not hear each other from across the table. Our server was nice, but we felt a bit rushed and she also thought we were celebrating a birthday. Neither of us think the food was worth the price, as we spent $250 between the two of us. I thought a lot about how many stars to give this review. I settled on five because the food is so excellent. Really, every bite was exceptional. The flavors melded so well together. Bravo! It's one of the most delicious meals we've had in a long time (and especially thrilled that we are locals). The service was friendly and attentive. The portions are small. Very small. We ate just about everyone morsel and while we were satiated at the end of the meal, we definitely weren't full. That said, there is one huge negative. This may be the loudest restaurant I've ever been to. Something about the design of the restaurant makes the acoustics TERRIBLE. I was literally screaming at the person sitting next to me. We came as a party of four and there was no way to have a conversation with the people across the table. We didn't linger at the end of the meal because our heads were pounding. The Shrimp Dumplings were doubtlessly my highlight from the dining table. It was surely nothing like any other dumplings you could think of, certainly thanks to the coconut bisque base served with the dumplings. They were so rich in seasoning and the taste was just mind-blowing with a hint of spicy kick. This place is truly a gem. First of all, the service was impeccable, guiding us through the menu with great recommendations. I was a little concerned that the small plated wouldn't be filling, but I was wrong. My favorite was the tuna carapaccio and the sauce that came with the fried chicken. My cousin and I both got the Quetzal cocktail and loved it! Unique flavor and packed a punch. The restaurant is so cute inside and has some soft natural light coming through during the day. The food was expensive and the quality didn't meet my expectation. It was not bad by any means, everything tasted fine, but nothing uniquely stuck out to me. The best dish I tried was the crispy salmon with herb, so if you do go here, you should at least order this dish. I love the ambiance. It is very intimate and upscale. They should have a sign at the door: No Kids Allowed At least this is true for dinner. I was surprised by what they didn't have - customer service. We asked for an alcohol free drink for our tween son. Nope. No sodas without caffeine. No juice (unless you're getting a cocktail). Shirley Temple? Nope. Nothing for a kid. We tried three cocktails. They were fine. Not remarkable. The food was good - fish in particular was excellent. Just about everything is spicy. A simple request for sauce on the side - categorically denied - even for sauce that was a last-minute addition on top. The steak, which would have been unaltered by having sauce on the side instead of on top, was rendered inedible by our child because they insist on slathering sauce on top. We ordered half the menu, hoping something would be edible. I'm disappointed that we didn't leave. So please enjoy the food, but don't bring your kids. For reference, we've been out to two other LA top 100 restaurants this week. We dine out regularly and well. Probably won't be back here. read more

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was disappointing enough that I feel compelled to share it. We arrived within the restaurant's stated 15-minute grace period for our reservation. Due to nearby filming impacting parking access, my partner briefly had to locate alternate parking while I remained on-site. Rather than occupy a table, I voluntarily sat at the bar and began ordering food and drinks while waiting. Despite physically being present and actively spending money at the restaurant, I was told we would still be charged the late reservation fee. The situation escalated after my partner jokingly said to me, "let's just sit at the bar so she can chill the fuck out." The comment was made privately to me, smiling and clearly joking, and was never directed at the hostess. Nevertheless, management approached us and accused us of "harassing staff" and using aggressive language. When I calmly clarified that the comment had not been directed at staff, the manager largely ignored me entirely, despite the reservation being under my name. Instead, she focused almost exclusively on reprimanding my partner. As a woman of color, the interaction felt uncomfortable and dismissive. What could have been a simple moment of clarification became an unnecessarily hostile interaction. We had already ordered multiple dishes and drinks but chose to finish quickly and leave to dine elsewhere because the environment no longer felt welcoming. The most disappointing part was not that someone overheard a curse word -- it was the complete lack of hospitality, de-escalation, or customer care afterward. The staff doubled down rather than resolving the situation professionally. For a restaurant with such a strong reputation, the service experience fell remarkably short. read more
