We had a 9:30 p.m. reservation last night. The ambiance was outstanding with beautiful plants, warm lighting, and a great overall atmosphere. Easily a 10/10. Unfortunatelyy the service didn't match the setting. We waited quite a while before our server greeted us, and both the server and support staff seemed unfriendly and disengaged. It felt like everyone was ready to go home... The food was solid about an 8.5/10, but the service was a 6/10 and took away from the overall experience. If you can overlook the service, it's still a nice spot, but personally I wouldn't return.

Have yet to be disappointed by this restaurant. Service is always good and attentive and helpful when suggesting how much you should order of their small plates for your party size. You honestly can't go wrong with anything on their menu; everything is so delicious. Personal favs include the sweet corn bollo, shrimp dumplings (the sauce is amazing with the rice), and the sticky toffee pudding for dessert. The restaurant is really pretty but it can get very loud with the music and people's conversations. It also can get very dark as the night goes on since the lights are dim and tables are lit with candles. The bathrooms are equally as dark as well.

You know the restaurant has a great location when it's steps away from the beach and you can go for an after meal stroll and watch the sunset. Located between Venice Beach and the canals is this place which serves Central American/Panamanian influenced dishes. Best to order family style and make sure to get the tostada and surf clam ceviche. The tostada was so good we ordered twice. If you can handle a very rich dish, go for the daily limited pupusa with bone marrow. Service was friendly and casual. Valet parking right next door was $15, but they hustled which always feels nice. If you're looking for something unique and by the beach this is a wonderful place.

That pork chop is one of the best things I've eaten in a long time!! Great portion too, easily could have been split between two people, although I happily ate it myself :) Fun presentation where you can make your own lettuce cup, and that spicy cabbage brought everything together so well. Yum! As always great vibe & music too and a cool looking stuff including the doormen. Gotta love Venice :)

I came here when it originally opened and was not that impressed as it had some things to work out but boy tonight, delicious! The space has always been charming and beautiful and who would not want l reminisce the days of James Beach. But the food was outstanding. And the server Drew took great care of us.

Si! Mon has been one of my favorite meals in LA, period. Everything is excellent and extremely delicious and well crafted. The portions are also a solid size and not so tiny you don't leave full. Every single thing I had was a hit, from the fried chicken, to the tartare, to the pork belly and the dumplings - just divine, everything. The service was excellent and the vibes are intimate though the space is large. I highly highly recommend checking this place out as someone who likes most things but rarely loves a place this much, you really need to check it out. The drinks were also well crafted. The flavors take you on a bit of a journey with their complexity and the flavors blend so thoughtfully together. It's a meal to remember, and definitely a great option for a special occasion, too!

Beautiful indoors with nice breeze coming in and the decor is so retro and modern. Waiter was very helpful with excellent recommendations! Ill rank our food from favorite to least favorite. (1) SURF CLAM CEVICHE #1- the acidity and creaminess and sweetness with very fresh seafood was so high quality. Plantains had a perfect amount of salt and crunch. The thinly sliced red onion was also perfect. It was very flavorful and probably better than Holbox-- if you have been. 10/10 (2) TUNA CARPACCIO YUCA TOSTADA #2- this was the best bite overall, it is definitely small and you finish fast but the flavors were just outstanding. The tuna itself was so fresh and it had a nice acidic flavor with the perfectly crunchy tostada!! 10/10 (3) KANPACHI CEVICHE #3 - a coconut predominant flavor with a mild acidity to it. It also pairs with plantains and they were fresh and perfectly crunchy. Was weary about the corn at first but honestly couldn't taste it and it was so good! (4) AFRO-CARIBBEAN SHRIMP DUMPLINGS #4- my bf loves shrimp and said this was very tasty. I'm not the biggest fan of shrimp but thought it was very creamy, fresh, had the classic shrimpy sweetness and a coconut creamy sauce to pair with it that when used on the rice tastes like a sweet milk rice. These were cooked perfectly. (5) fried chicken #5 - solid fried chicken and good crunch to it with the chicken being very well cooked but I cant say I was blown away by it, it has good flavor when dipped in the sauce which has a nice smokiness and acidity to it that makes it really tasty. However if I came again, I probably wouldn't order again. Lastly we ordered the toffee dessert which was classic and yummy. Nice shareable size. Overall, would return 100% and bring friends from out of town. Terrific flavors and service and definitely a top LA restaurant.

Such a unique date night spot! I came here on a Saturday night with a reservation and we were seated pretty quick. The area they sat us in was pretty loud so it does get hard hearing the other person. We ordered the Kanpachi Ceviche, Tuna Carpaccio Yuca Tostada, Afro-Caribbean Shrimp Dumplings, Kanpachi en Banana Leaf, and Fried Chicken Legs. Every dish was packed with bold and unique flavors I've never had before. My favorites were the ceviche and tuna carpaccio as they were fresh and made perfectly. Overall, great experience and would highly recommend!

Dying to try this place out as everyone that talks about it loves it, but can be a tough reservation. You can park in the garage just past it on the left as street parking is tough. When you first walk in, you will notice two things - it is very dark and it is very loud. Service was great as we were walked through the menu and got some good suggestions Smoked trout dip - Flavors were on point and perfect with the plaintain chips for dipping Kanpachi ceviche - Great combo with the red onions and not too sweet with the coconut. Corn added some great texture to the dish and could have eaten three of these Baked oysters - Perfectly cooked and so tender with a fun presentation Shrimp dumplings - Great dish but not as great as the other items as the sauce was better than the shrimp Was recommended to get the coconut rice as a side and you need to do the same as it's really good Main issue is the dishes are small (welcome to modern day tapas) and we left a bit hungry. Quick tip - maybe easier to hear sitting at the bar, but if you need good conversation it can be difficult

5 stars for excellent and attentive service; great vibes & beautiful decor. Food was great 4.5 stars. Excellent menu with so many gluten free choices (as long as you're ok with cross contamination-- see photo). The chef recommends 5-6 dishes for 2 people. We did just that and were delightfully full! We ordered the Kanpachi ceviche, uni shooter, tuna carpaccio, roasted veggies, fried chicken, kanpachi en banana leaf, and coconut flan. The kanpachi en banana leaf was my favorite. The uni shooter was sadly a bit too salty... I could barely taste the yummy SB uni! Also, delicious mocktails!

A lovely restaurant only minutes away from Venice Beach. Interesting menu and but half of the menu is out if you do not consume raw seafood. I liked everything I tried. There is a valet parking but the restaurant does not validate. You can save some $ if you park by the beach and walk 3 minutes.

At Si! Mon, they combine Central American cooking traditions with other cultures that have influenced Panamanian cuisine. From its prime location between Venice's beach and its canals, you are instantly transported to a tropical hideaway. The lively patio is the place to be while grooving to jazzy funky tunes. It's a beautiful tropical space, both spacious and packed, with a courtyard fringed with big green leafy plants. The bar has a palm tree growing out of it that reaches for the sky through a hole in the ceiling. Afro-Caribbean Shrimp Dumplings: My initial impression upon seeing the dumplings was of shumai. I guess I wasn't wrong because dim sum is popular in Panama, likely from the laborers who built their railroad. A massive influx of Afro-Caribbean workers during the canal construction brought dynamic culinary techniques that also left their mark on this dish. The golden bisque is velvety from the coconut milk with dark droplets of flavorful charred scallion oil, and torn mint on top. The bartender recommended matching the dumplings with Coconut Rice. The flavor profiles of the coconut milk running through the rich, sweet, and savory rice are not the only things that make it pair so well. It absorbs the golden bisque like a champ. Fried Chicken Leg: An entire chicken leg, thigh and drumstick, is fried two times for an incredibly crispy shell. The shredded mangos, jicamas, and red bell peppers offer a nice counterpunch of sweet, savory, and tangy flavors to the rich chicken. Pour and dunk the tropical dipping sauce on the chicken. The zing of the charred jalapenos, scallions, and vinegar find their way into the crunchy nooks and crannies of the chicken skin. Parking: There's street parking in the surrounding neighborhood.

I brought my boyfriend here for his birthday last night and we left so happy. I'm really glad we finally came. Si! Mon opened a little over two years ago, and it's chef José Olmedo Carles Rojas's Panamanian and Afro-Caribbean-inspired spot in the old James Beach space in Venice. It's right across from Ospi. I loved the menu format right away. Cold starters on the left, warm starters on the top right, and hot mains on the bottom right. Our server recommended doing about two from each section for two people, and it ended up being the perfect amount. We had the kanpachi ceviche, tuna carpaccio yuca tostada, Afro-Caribbean shrimp dumplings, sweet corn bollo, fried chicken leg, and the kanpachi en banana leaf, and everything was so flavorful. The tuna carpaccio yuca tostada was my favorite by far. The ceviche tasted super fresh, the shrimp dumplings were so delicious, and honestly every dish hit. Service was fast, everyone looked so stylish, and the doorman outside was very kind. It was such a fun, beautiful dinner and we were so glad we came We'll definitely be back.

What a wonderful surprise…read more I live just around the corner from Jamaica Bay Inn, and for whatever reason, it took me far too long to finally have dinner here with family and friends. I wish I'd discovered it sooner. The restaurant overlooks Mother's Beach, and the setting is exactly what you'd hope for: peaceful, relaxed, and quintessential Marina del Rey. You almost expect the view to be the highlight... Then the food shows up. For appetizers, we shared the hummus plate and the calamari. Both were excellent. As someone whose kids were practically raised eating seafood around the ports of New England, calamari is one of those deceptively simple dishes we judge pretty harshly. Beachside absolutely passed the test. I ordered the cheeseburger, which was solid, but the real stars of the evening were the roasted Jidori chicken and the jumbo shrimp fettuccine. The chicken was perfectly juicy, something that sounds easy but surprisingly few restaurants consistently get right. The shrimp fettuccine completely stole the show. In fact, it's now become my daughter's regular takeout order, and she's easily the toughest pasta critic in our family. Congratulations... you've officially earned the title of our favorite pasta spot in the Marina. The service was another highlight. Our server spoke both German and Italian, had a great sense of humor, and made the evening feel warm and effortless. Between the location, the food, and the hospitality, I already know this is going to become one of our regular family dinner spots.

We didn't tell him there were any issues, because once the decision was made to stay, why ruin his holiday too? lol Ordered coffee. Dreadful. Ok, no big deal. The food came out and I could immediately SEE The Unappetizing . It's special when you can tell that your food is going to be bad before you take one bite. The French toast was Sahara dry, burned and flavorless. The chicken, was competing with it in the dry and flavorless category-- I really can't say which was worse. I don't really use hot sauce and I drowned the tenders in Cholula just to make it halfway edible. Literally we could have waited for the AMC chicken tenders and they would have been better, which is horrifying. Particularly when you try to avoid fried food in general and now you are poisoning your body for no good reason. Husband ordered a steak and eggs, medium well. I'll attach the picture and I'll let you be the judge of whether or not it was cooked properly. Eggs were not good either. Immediately, I gave hubby more than half my plate because he eats All of Everything that's put in front of him. Something would have to get up and walk off his plate for him to not eat it. He was taught not to waste food, period. The exception was steak so that he could take it home, cook it, and then eat it. The restaurant itself is pretty dang nice, offering indoor seating along with a chopper in the lobby, as well as outdoor seating on the deck with some nice views of the water. When we first came in, we were not greeted by the hostess, and to be honest she was kind of rude when she seated us almost seeming annoyed when I asked a question about the outdoor seating. Moving on from that, our waiter was wonderful and extremely friendly during out stay. He refilled drinks and was pleasant to have around. If you couldn't tell by the name, this place does seafood and thats exactly why we came. We ordered some appetizers and entrees and split everything, so let's break down what was consumed. Killer Shrimp Roll- This is what my wife ordered, but she forced me to try it. This sandwich was absolutely incredible! The bread was soft, the seafood tasted so good, and the combo of those things together was so dang good. Spicy Chicken Tenders- I really enjoyed these. The chicken itself was pretty tender and the buffalo sauce wasn't overbearing, it was just right. Fried Calamari- Standard fried calamari, nothing to write home about but it was pretty solid. Killer Mac & Cheese- Creamy, Cheesy, Tasty! This was so good Mac & Cheese, really good. Seafood Platter- Snow Crab Claws and Shrimp served chilled. Everything here was good, I mean, It's crab claws and shrimp so you basically get what you expect here. Crab meat was very good and so was the shrimp. Lobster Tail- The best part of the meal here. The lobster tail tasted great, was served already outside of the skin and was easy to consume. So, so, good. Overall, Killer Shrimp was a fantastic place to have a birthday meal. The food here was fantastic, the views were wonderful, and even though the hostess who seated us was kind of rude, the rest of the staff was wonderful and took care of us during out visit. I would absolutely come back to this place in the future.

Killer Shrimp has been around for years and has got even better. The food was great with the…read moreshrimp, lobster and crab claws swimming in the special broth and plenty of French bread for dunking. The view of the marina from the balcony is also excellent. The bonus was the great live music upstairs I enjoyed after dinner. They had a southern soft rock tribute band called Midnight Ryder that was cool belting out Doobie Bros. favorites. Highly recommended for the dining and live music.
