My husband and I actually really loved their food but the confusion with the final bill left a sour taste in our mouth. We were given an outdated menu - with most items still listed as $3.95 for their specials. When we brought up the issue, the server still brought over the old menu to compare. The only excuse given when she noticed the mistake was the price just hasn't been updated on all of printed menus. We were still expected to pay the higher price. It's one of the few Thai restaurants that's open as early as 6am. It's located right next to a motel. Here's what I've tried: *Bo Tong Ko - These donuts were crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. The condensed milk was perfect as the dipping sauce. This takes me back to some of the breakfast items I had during my trips to Thailand. *Bo Pia Sod - The sauce on top of the rolls was thick, rich, and sweet. The beansprouts were fresh and crispy. I normally don't like beansprouts but this is the one dish where I'll definitely devour them. *Khao Man Gai - The pieces of chicken were white meat and they were tender. The rice was soft and had a hint of garlic and ginger. The sauce that comes with was sweet and garlicky. The soup broth was rich and flavorful. The service could use some improvement. The first time we weren't greeted upon entry but the second time we were greeted. All of the servers here look lifeless. They're all very soft-spoken. Most of the time we would have to flag servers. They're not very attentive. The restaurant was spacious. It was crowded both times that I went there. The parking was horrible. We were lucky to find street parking. I don't think any Thai restaurant in this area has good parking for that matter. It's just a given. This one is the worst considering that there's no designated parking lot for the restaurant. I honestly think you can't go wrong with whatever you order. It is a SUPER casual restaurant and the wait staff is very nice. Hidden on the side of a motel, this restaurant attracts a lot of local Thai customers and Yelpers like myself. My boyfriend and I started our meal with an order of the freshly cooked Leek Stuff Fried Rice Cake and it was delicious! Reminds me of home. I didn't like the side sauce so I recommend dipping the fried cakes with chili sauce instead. I was also very happy with my main dish, Hainan Chicken (steamed chicken), because the sauce was a good mixture of minced garlic and sweet soy sauce. My boyfriend had the Tom Yum Noodle and was also satisfied with his choice. The workers speak limited English so you'll have to be patient. FYI, it's CASH ONLY! --- Updated 6/23/18 Today I tried Spicy Curry with Thai Spaghetti and it was actually quite sweet. I had the Duck rice porridge and my brother had the fish rice porridge and they delivered on big bowls, so yes I recommend this place for a quiet morning in Hollywood. There were open tables and the dining areas was nice and warm room temperature for a March morning. They offered everything on the menu. We also tried the Chinese doughnut with condensed milk and it really didn't do it for me with the porridge, kinda of a very sweet dessert. But they were very tasty, but not as a combo. I gave one less star because they offer no car parking and the restroom is somewhere else outside the restaurant. Service was great. I have tried a number of dishes at Siam Sunset over the years. I like the breakfast menu items and enjoy the Chinese donuts (fried cruellers served with condensed milk). I'm also an early bird so I like places that open at 6 am. Even though the service was just-the-bare-minimum even for a hole-in-the-wall place, it didn't bother me too much. Until today. I didn't really have time to dine in and opted to order takeout thinking I would save some time. Unfortunately, I was utterly wrong. I arrived at 8 am on a Saturday to a packed house and went to the counter to order takeout. I can see that they were busy but still waited patiently for a while to order one duck porridge, one order of rolls and one rice dish. I stood to the side for many minutes before another person asked me to sit down at one of the tables to wait. I was expecting the takeout order to be ready in 15-20 minutes so I only fed the meter for 15 minutes. Yet, the whole wait ended up taking OVER 40 minutes!!! I noticed something was amiss when I noticed different people who came in after me getting served and finishing their food and leaving while I was kept waiting. After about 20 minutes, I asked them to check on my to-go order but was told me the dishes were coming and they were waiting on one more thing. When they finally called me to tell me my order was ready (after another 10 minutes), I realized pretty much the entire restaurant had cleared out and it was only then that they were focusing on the takeout orders. I would have appreciated advance notice regarding the potential wait or maybe their MO to serve every and ALL dine-in customers before, during and after me before taking care of my order. They said sorry for being so busy but that's no excuse for them serving everyone else first and keeping me waiting for over 40 minutes for stuff that takes 10 minutes to make. Probably the most Thai restaurant in Los Angeles where all the Thais actually eat. This is one of the places you can go for the real thing. Khao Mun Gai is great, so is the Tom Yum Goong and I like their Patongo if it's early enough and they haven't sold out yet. I usually go for the egg noodle wonton soup with bbq pork since it's such a nice comfort dish that reminds me of the noodle soups in Thailand, but was so thrilled to learn from the lovely server that this restaurant has real Thai holy basil offered. I've looked so many places for real Pad Gaprao. I've been a regular at this restaurant for a little while now, but knowing this, I will go even more frequently. Service is always friendly and the environment with Channel 3 Thai news in the background just always puts me in a happy place where I feel like I'm back in my favorite country. read more

The jok is good. Really good. They have a couple of other specialty dishes like hainan chicken and fried mussels. They are usually full of customers but I've rarely seen a non Thai in the restaurant. That says a lot. Oh, it's a gem. Just hope they start remembering their familiar Thai smile to go along with the Thai comfort food. It really would go a long way. If you've ever been to Bangkok, Chiang Mai or any of the smaller towns and villages in Thailand, Siam Sunset will bring back the feeling of those family owned stalls, carts and restaurants. There's also a Specials Menu with noodle and rice dishes for $3.95 (yes, the portions are decent for that price too). Try the tom yum noodle soup or the green curry with Thai spaghetti. I always come here for Congee. It is made fresh daily. I love it with pork meatball and soft boil egg. Their pork meatball is so soft and yummy! With some thin slice of fresh gingers and white pepper on top makes it even more tastier I also love their pork blood soup ! They know how to cook blood cube perfectly. No strong smell of blood cube like many other Chinese or Thai restaurants. I can add glass noodle in it ...lovely! They have Chinese donuts (Thai style.. shorter than Chinese one). ..fresh every morning (limited) . I love to add it in my Congee. And sometime just have it with condensed milk! There's three thai restaurants we rotate between and this is definitely one of our favorites. Price is cheap and food is good and authentic. They do close early and most of the breakfast stuff runs out by late afternoon so id recommend coming earlier. They're open from 6am to 8pm M-Saturday. We've been here a couple of times after 6pm and they were out of a few items. He's been wanting me to try every time I came to Thai town with him but I always asked him to take us to Pa Ord for Thai boat noodle instead. Sort of dry but flavoring of chicken and rice is good but it doesn't come close to the best I've had. On the other hand, the chinese donuts with condensed milk and my boyfriend's pork blood/intestine soup was AH-MAZING. Oman, it was my first time trying chinese donuts with condensed milk and at first I was kinda put off that you have to dip it in condensed milk but the combination is perfect. The crispy hot fresh donuts isn't sweet so by dipping it in the condensed milk, it becomes the perfect sweetness! The intestine soup was also great. I thought it would taste more intestine-y or like organs' gimmy grimyness but nope! It's kind of like thai version of pho, light in taste but with herbs like cilantro. MMM. yums. If you order nothing else at this restaurant, you really must try the deliciously fluffy, yet chewy Chinese donuts with condensed milk. I know Hollywood is all about diet & exercise, but hey, YOLO. Anyway, delicious doughnuts aside, the menu here is a nice balance between uniquely traditional Thai cuisine like Intestine with pickled mustard, and more widely-known options like Fried Wontons, Curries, Vegetable soups, BBQ rice dishes, and A La Carte dishes like Roasted Duck with Basil & Chili. They are most known for their Rice Porridge, however, and if you're Hispanic, you're used to the sweeter rice porridge with cinnamon & honey. This version is more on the savory side, with your choice of meat- fish, duck, pork, chicken, or shrimp. I actually went with the vegetarian version which is really just the rice porridge topped with chives, soy sauce, & ginger. I will admit, I prefer the sweeter version, but this isn't half bad. And the portions are huge for what you pay for. For just under $6 I was able to enjoy a steaming bowl of rice porridge with a side of Chinese donuts. Not a bad way to break your diet, I say. For you first-timers out there, this place can be pretty hard to find if you don't know what you're looking for. There's actually a blue-painted Inn that the restaurant is connected to called something like "America's Best Value Inn" or some such nonsense.
