Siam is my new favorite Thai restaurant, no doubt about it. Located in Thai town, it is hard to stand out from all the other restaurants with prices alone, but Siam has competitve prices and genuine Thai flavors. I got a handful of dishes including the fried oysters, soy milk, Tom yum soup, and many others that I would all highly recommend. I went for their lunch special on a weekend at 8am and oh man the special is ridiculously good. You can get a bowl of noodles for $6.50. In Thai town . I love the fact that this restaurant is connected to a motel since it just adds more of a unique character/story for the place. Honestly, I've been to Thailand a couple of times before, and some of the dishes I've had here was better than some things I've had from Thailand itself. The only thing is the hours here is 6AM-4PM, but I'm not complaining. I can't wait to be a regular here. read more

I ordered this "Tau Huay" "" for take out because it is one of my favorites. Normally, I would eat it in the restaurant and it was always good but this time the tofu or whatever it's called that is supposed to be put in the hot ginger drink looks like a rotten cheese and looks like it's expired and I am very disappointed this time. Siam Sunset is a great place for breakfast in the morning. Due to the distance, my wife and I only come here on the weekends and on special occasions. The menu is pretty good, it has everything any Thai Food lover would like. They also have a small plates menu which is a nice option. My personal go to is the Rice Porridge with Pork but other proteins are available. This dish reminds me of the early morning in Thailand, paired with the Chinese donuts.. you're set! Be warned if you don't like eating liver let them know! The food here is pretty good overall. Reasons for the four star.. As much as I enjoy this restaurant the issues that always bothered me personally (which I really don't care anymore now) but for new customers these can drive them crazy. 1. The parking can be an issue at times. It shares parking with a motel. 2. Cash Only. This has been the policy for a while now and has never changed.. Still one of my absolute favorite restaurants and consistently good but don't expect too much from a decor and service perspective. The restaurant is actually part of a hotel so parking can be hit or miss. Sometime there's lots of parking and sometimes none at all. When you step into the restaurant, the interior is dingy and simple. Again, true definition of hole in the wall but trust me, the food is good and authentic. Important to know, this place is CASH ONLY. They have a special menu that used to be $3.95, it's now $4.95 but the special plates are still good and well priced for small appetizers which are perfect as starters. Not too large and just enough. My boys always order the fried tofu and my mom likes the leek and chives dumplings. In my opinion, this restaurant is best for noodles and some of their rice dishes. Guay Jub, yentafo, ba Mee hang duck are all amazing!! We've had several rice plates -ka moo which is stewed ham hock, kra prow duck are our family favorites. Oh yes, the shrimp paste rice is a must try but not for the faint of heart. If you're lucky enough to get here before noon, definitely order the rice porridge with the Chinese donuts. I just had take-out ground pork porridge with fried donuts and soy milk show up on my kitchen table courtesy of a gracious houseguest, and on the basis of that only, I say: Wow! THIS is where to get breakfast in Thai Town! (Especially if you need it to be at 6am.) I've had this style of breakfast, with a few variations here and there, in China, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Cambodia, but never in Thailand, so I can't comment on 'authenticity' (a loaded word under the best of circumstances anyway). I can comment, though, on the fact that their soy milk is precisely the correct amount of sweet for dipping a donut (no need for the condensed milk in my opinion), and it is stuffed with boba-like clear balls, sheets of tofu skin, and some sort of puffed grain, almost like an alternate universe dessert pozole! Their porridge is savory and absolutely packed with the good stuff - ginger strands, huge balls of pork, green onions, and a very soft-cooked runny bright yellow egg. read more

We were nearby on a Saturday morning, so we stopped in to try their homestyle Thai breakfast. We ordered the fish porridge, which was a little thicker than we prefer and had very little fish in it. We also tried one of their tofu pancakes with bean sprouts, egg, cucumber and peanut gravy, but found it lacking as well. The gravy had too much cornstarch and not enough peanut flavor. They serve the traditional Thai breakfast- hot soy milk with Chinese donut, jok or to many of us known as rice porridge, and the more famous dish "Tom laud moo" - Pork Blood Soup with all the organs within. Restaurant gets extremely busy and service is so-so. Prices are reasonable. Parking is shared with the motel the restaurant is attached to. This is one of my favorite restaurants to go to for brunch on the weekends. -- Chinese donuts: Come early (before noon) or there's a high chance they'll be sold out. It's worth it! One order is sufficient for 2 people to share. I would not suggest having an order all to yourself, as it is very deep fried and very sweet when dipped in the condensed milk. -- Pork or duck porridge: This is an excellent Chinese-ish breakfast item. I wish the duck version came with the preserved duck egg in it, though. The pork version packs plenty of ground meat. You can order this with an egg inside. *It is a huge bowl and actually very sufficient as an entire meal for two.* -- Fresh hot soymilk: Love it! It comes with tofu skin and pearl barley inside. They initially took me by surprise but I've come to really like them as toppings. -- Fried mussels: I like this because it brings back fond memories of Thai street food I had in Bangkok. A couple of Instagram friends had been raving about the breakfast so when I found myself starving on Saturday morning I figured it was a great reason to go pay a visit! GET - the jok with minced pork meatballs. The rice porridge is a bland bland on its own but when you mix in the lemongrass, ginger, and green onions it's delicious. And the pork is very flavorful and just salty enough. GET - an added egg for the jok. Nothing like a broken yolk for some added umami. GET - youtiao (Chinese donuts). Seriously, these are delicious and even better when dunked in the condensed milk. They're shorter than most versions but only $1.50 for two! Whenever my family wants legit Thai food, we drive to Thai Town in Los Angeles. The parking here is kind of bizarre because they share the same parking lot as a motel. The restaurant is kind of hidden, so when you see a blue Motel sign, just pull into the parking lot and then you'll see the restaurant. I like that they have a sampler menu, where all the items are smaller portions and priced at $3.95. That way, you can have a greater variety of foods. There are about 8 items on this menu, but my family and I usually just get the mussels over bean sprouts, noodles covered in sweet pork with egg, and the thin rice noodles in a sour soup. All of the dishes are pretty good so I suggest trying a couple as appetizers. We always get the BBQ pork over rice too. It comes with three-layered crispy pork, an egg, and Chinese sausage with the red sauce. I really love this dish because they cook each of the elements perfect. The pork is perfectly crispy but not too dry and the Chinese sausage is thinly sliced and really flavorful. We always end the meal with the soft tofu in ginger with the fried breads. The fried breads kind of remind me like croutons, but when you soak it in the ginger soup, they all go together perfectly. Be sure to try this at least once. Usually when we come on a weekend, the soup tastes pretty diluted because I assume they are busier during the weekends, but the last time we came on a Monday, the ginger soup was so flavorful with the hint of spicy ginger. Most of the items on this menu are of acquired taste because I took my more Americanized friend here once and he was not that pleased with the dishes. However, when my Thai family and I always want some legit, authentic Thai food, we always come here even though it is a bit of a drive for us. read more

You walk into the motel's courtyard to enter the restaurant or you walk out in front of the motel on the city sidewalk and guess which door leads you inside. Don't freak out, yet. Siam Sunset is well known for their Thai donuts with condensed milk. You can't keep that thin waistline while eating lots of these. The place is always packed, it is noisy and choatic. It opens at 6 am for breakfast. If you can't read the menu, no problem. Look around and order something that someone else is eating. The Chinese donuts looked freshly fried and the iced coffee looked better than the hot coffee (though maybe thats because I got my hot coffee without condensed milk-epic fail on my part)! The environment is humble and simple. The colors are warm, the place is a dive, but absolutely authentic. I forgot I was on Sunset Blvd. and believed I was in Thailand for the hour I was there. The Cafe was filled with Thai people, less than a handful of us were of other places. An old man sat reading the Thai newspaper and waited for his sons. A Thai family fed their baby congee; and a young man came in looking for the restaurant owner selling purple orchids for the Siam Sunset Buddhist Altar. Signs on the wall reminded customers about parking rules and regulations for the neighborhood. Adjacent to a hotel. Inconspicuous and low key, the food is what will be bringing me back time and time again. It is across the street from the 99 cent store and there is a parking lot located there as well. The waitress was nice enough to reserve a large table because I was with a group of 10 and we wanted to eat at a place that was open, being that we got there at 9pm. As for the food, I enjoyed the panang beef curry with white rice. I gave it one star off due to being cash only, small venue, and restrooms which were located outside of the restaurant. This place is LEGIT Thai food! I came here looking for some authentic food like my relatives used to make me. It looks pretty shady from the outside, and once you walk in it only gets slightly better, but it has the feel of my grandparents living room or something I wanted some donuts but they ran out already for the day. I got the fried leek cakes which are definitely a MUST HAVE at this place! The sausage plate is up there, might not be a must have, but I do highly recommend it. Don't expect any frills from Siam Sunset. Their communal cafeteria-esque tables and wandering servers are about as basic as you can get. But basic isn't a bad thing here - Siam Sunset is as authentic as it gets. The Thai Iced Tea is textbook and it soothes the burn from the perfect Papaya Salad. The Glass Noodle Salad is soft and hot, made savory with piles of ground pork and sprigs of cilantro. It was a new thing for me, and I definitely didn't regret trying it. You can't go to a Thai restaurant without ordering curry, and the Duck Curry is right on. The curry is thick, and you can taste the duck infused into every bite. You're not going to get 5-star service at Siam Sunset, but you don't get better Thai anywhere else! read more
