They're the best, my all time favorite is the Furikake Chiken. Side of Aloha is always my first idea when it comes to eating out. Although, I live 35 minutes away, the tasty, authentic, hawaiian food is what makes the drive worth it. They're currently only doing take-out orders because of the coronavirus. The customer service is always good as the food and the reason why you'd go back for more. I barely go to other hawaiian eateries because Side of Aloha has that freshly served authentic hawaiian food which is hard to find if you're not in Hawaii. Hands down the best poke I have ever eaten! I've lived in Hawaii twice, most recently last year, and ate poke on an almost daily basis. It's hit or miss sometimes due to the quality of the fish. You can always tell when the fish was frozen or it has a stringy consistency. This was my first time at Side of Aloha, and I am unbelievably impressed! We met up with some family here for lunch while we were in town and were throughly impressed. We were just in Hawaii a couple weeks ago and had a hard time finding good Hawaiian food so we were surprised by this place. It was better than anything we had on our trip. I asked if they had Kahlua pig because it wasn't on the menu, and owner told me he could do it for me, and he made Kahlua pig nachos for my husband. It was sooo good. Went here last night with my husband. The prices are around $11 for the plates. We ordered the furikake chicken and the pork plate. Each came with a salad that had an amazingly delicious dressing on it, a rice ball, and a side of macaroni salad that had actual mac nuts on top & olives. It was unique. Both dishes were amazing and I ate the full plate! Run by an adorable Hawaiian family. It did take quite a while for the food to come out despite there not being many people there. Fast casual deliciousness! Great quick weeknight dinner with quality food. I got the grilled ahi that was perfectly cooked - often times cooked ahi is completely dried out but not the case here. You get to choose from your sauces to top it with and the lemon wasabi sauce complimented it perfectly. For sides I got rice and crack mac which has bacon - which I usually love - but not here. Call me a purist but it doesn't seem to go with Hawaiian mac salad IMO. They have a bevy of other sides so you aren't hurting for options. Staff was friendly and decor is modern kitschy Hawaiian- very cute. As far as fast casual places go, this one is one of the keepers so go try it! read more

We eat here at least once a week- it is our favorite place to eat in the entire state of Utah (not joking)! Nina is the BEST and so welcoming every single time we come. Their poke is authentic and by far the freshest we've found in the mainland. I dream about their furikake chicken and pulehu pork. Well, after struggling with the menu arrangement and then scanning it for a few minutes i finally asked the hostess to just order me whatever on the menu was just some classic tuna poke. Side of Aloha wins huge in two departments: fresh fish and customer service. We've only been here twice, but we were wowed both visits. Huge thanks to my fellow Yelpers for putting this on my radar. Our first visit, my husband had the Furikake Ahi and I had the Mr. Lava Lava Raw Ahi Poke, and we shared a Grandma's Sweet Lady Raw Ahi Poke. On our second visit, he had Furikake Chicken and I had the Mr. Lava Lava Raw Ahi Poke(again!), and we shared an order of fries with furikake seasoning and a spam musubi. I'm not a big fan of cooked tuna, so my husband's Furikake Ahi did not appeal to me at all, but he loved it. If you've never had furikake seasoning, boy are you missing out. It's a blend of nori, seasame seeds, bonito flakes, and seasoning. Basically, an umami bomb. They mix that with a sweet Hawaiian sauce which plays really nicely with the furikake seasoning. I enjoyed his Furikake Chicken on our second visit, as well as the fries. So the person who took our orders on both visits was extremely helpful with picking which seasonings for the raw ahi. I'm not a big fan of aioli-based sauces on my poke, so he steered me to the more traditional soy-based sauces, either the spicy Mr. Lava Lava or the more sweet Grandma's Sweet Lady. We ended up trying both on that first visit, and both nailed what I love in a traditional poke - hell yeah! But the main win here was just how fresh those giant chunks of ahi were. That really made it for me. But here's the kicker: they are just the most genuine and helpful team. There was a small complication on this second visit. They had sold out of fish the previous night and this hadn't been communicated yet to the team (we came as soon as they had opened). After we sat down, someone from the back (the manager? the owner? I didn't think to ask) came out to apologize and let us know they were expecting their fish in 15 minutes or so and asked if I would like something else in the meantime. The truth is, we drove all the way down there for me to get poke, so I chose to wait but asked that they still bring out my husband's food in the meantime. We received another heartfelt apology, and some spam musubi on the house (which, by the way, really hit the spot in that wait). Then, once the fish was delivered, she came out again to let me know it had been delivered and that the poke was underway....YAY! Let me tell you, it was worth the wait. So, major kudos for expert handling of a small snafu. That kind of service really breeds loyalty and trust in your customers. We'll definitely return, and bring all our friends. read more

By far, the cleanest of all the Hawaiian style places I've been to and probably the newest. They seem to be angling at "clean" Hawaiian in the dishes and those of you in the fitness community know what I'm talking about. For those of you not there, it means not a lot of fat/grease or cheap macros, such as simple sugars, etc., provided you don't count the drink selections, which are abysmal and kill that whole eating clean idea, if you choose to partake. Portions here are also the smallest I've seen at any Hawaiian place and they are definitely not going for mass quantity here. What they are going for, though...still a bit of a mystery, but among the other things missing is the teriyaki sauce bottles... Getting to this place is a bit of a pain, but it is basically next door to the Tide Laundromat place. Parking sucks, no way to sugar coat that and you will walk by other restaurants to get to this one. Inside is some sealed slabs of wood that constitute the tables, two of which are gigantic, annoying communal things. I did appreciate that they listed out all the ingredients in their various dishes and didn't feel like dealing with the potential of the ubiquitous onions, so I went with what was described as their most popular dish, but one I've not had, to my recall, the Furikake Chicken. Furikake refers to the stuff they sprinkle on top, which is partially dried nori, salt, sesame seeds and other assorted sundries. Why they chose to name it this, though it comes with furikake sprinkled liberally on top, is beyond me. If you're like me and know that the only thing worth getting at Panda Express (and even then only barely) is the Honey Walnut Shrimp, you already know the sauce this comes with, which is a sort of sweet whitish almost creamy glaze...but also something that tends to get very cloying well before the end of the food...as it does at Panda Express and as it did here. There are several nice side choices, including a regular green salad, ocean salad (seaweed), the ever-present macaroni salad, Kimchi cucumber and pickled cabbage. I opted for seaweed, which balanced out the creamy sauce better than did the low sodium soy sauce they had. If you get the furikake chicken, definitely get something with some umami or you will regret it. I also got exactly one scoop of white rice. They had musubi as well and getting musubi like this makes me want to go buy a makisu and just be done with this whole thing, as I'm relatively sure I could do better than this. While not the worst I've had, for the money, this was a stunning disappointment. I don't foresee a return here, given the inconvenience of location and the overall underwhelming nature of the visit, but it definitely isn't something that could reasonably be called bad, either... read more

Their food is winnahz, the service is definitely Aloha. I had the furukaki chicken with two scoops brown rice (NYs resolution lol) and poke. The fish was hella fresh and super flavorful. Best poke in Utah by far. Have one of the owners explain to you the difference between everyone else's poke, and their's. A local braddah like me can appreciate the authentic grinds this ohana brings to us kanaks so far away from home. Keep up the good work. This place is very good and definitely worth a try. I thought that the poke was very fresh. Their crack mac was probably one of the best mac salads I've ever had. The ube ice cream was also very good. My only critique is that the portions were very small for the price that you're paying. I think it's $16 for a small hand size portion of poke, and that's not including sides. Also, I don't even think I got a full scoop of ice cream when I opened my order lol. We saw this new place taking over the now dead Brugges location and were excited at the pictures we reviewed online. The pulehu steak was cooked well, and the furikake chicken was very sweet but decent; however, the problems we encountered were due to everything being one note in flavor along with the price tag. If you're looking for Mo' Bettah portions, go there instead because you get three quarters the food for twice the price here. Not to mention they did not have half the menu they had listed and had to keep changing our order on the fly. To their credit, they did mention a new menu was coming soon, but you could easily cross out what you don't have or put a piece of paper over it. I can excuse the expense if the flavor was there, yet it left me wanting. When you eat kimchi you expect the crunchy sweetness of cabbage, the spicy flavor of gochujiang, the umami of fermentation/shrimp paste, and hints of other veggies you pickled it with. This was cabbage with chili paste in its most basic form, and unfortunately that is the essence of everything we had. Everything had a one dimensional flavor that is hard to explain until you try it out. The steak tasted like steak. I could not tell you what they did to it other than just cook it straight out of the package with a bit of salt. If it wasn't for the overly sweet sauce, the furikake chicken would also be disappointingly bland, breaded, chicken breast. The mac salad had olives within and nuts on top, which somehow got lost in the mayo. For two of us, we paid $43 for a steak, a serving of fried chicken, four scoops of rice, seaweed salad, kimchi, and two lemonades.
