I've been here several times and the food is average. I won't be going back anymore because of the rude hostesses. Whenever they are busy they send you upstairs and tell you to be seated and then the upstairs hostess says they are full. I politely told the hostess she downstairs that they are full and she may want to stop sending people up there and she just shrugged and looked annoyed at me. My two girlfriends and I went to SideBar last weekend and sat outside for brunch. The drinks were good, our server was AWESOME, and the food was pretty good! Honestly, I was really hot sitting outside (covid life) but I thought the restaurant and staff did an amazing job with social distancing. Cute little spot in Leesburg. The ambiance of this location is beautiful. You have to be into the shabby chic but it's so cozy. The food was good. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there again but if I'm back in Leesburg and it's open I would at least stop in for a chai latte. I give this three stars due to the service. To get into the restaurant part is a bit confusing and the host was not the most eager to help us out. This happened twice, once as we went into the coffee shop part on accident and then again after we had to ask where to go and we found the main restaurant portion. Once we were sat which was immediately our waiter came over and smelled of body odor. Not the best as I'm getting ready to order food. Oh well. Once we ordered he repeated everything back to us, except it was wrong. I corrected him a few times, we got to a good alignment and he went on his merry way. To clarify we ordered 2 egg and cheese sandwiches on everything bagels. One had bacon, one did not. Once the food arrived, they were on plain bagels. I guess if that is the worst thing that could happen to me that day, I am grateful. Nonetheless, i don't mind coming back. The food was good and the ambiance was there. Our server Jack was great and tried to accommodate an eight person table amidst being swamped and dealing with our complaints. Of which we had many... Drinks took 30 min, food took an hour, appetizers and entrees came out at same time, coffee was cold (twice), happy hour sauv blanc wasn't drinkable, so much breading on fish and chips that it wasn't edible and was taken off bill, soggy burger buns, cheese board was Safeway deli meat, french toast wasn't cooked, toilets don't flush etc. They didn't have staff or capacity to take care of our table but brought us outside anyway. Was told that "I wouldn't be given attention for at least 30 minutes" and to leave if I wanted to get a single drink before then. Was shocked and disgusted by their terrible attitude and behavior. This is a tough review based on not eating at the place. We came here today for brunch and we were told it was a 30 minute wait and we had to leave a phone number. We did that and came back 30 minutes later and was told that it was going to be 30 minutes from the point we came back, so now up to a 60 minute wait. There were plenty of tables open but they were expecting larger groups and because of that all other tables were on hold. At least, this is what we were told. Additionally, this restaurant comes up as a gluten-free option in Leesburg. There are multiple things on the menu marked gluten-free and this is why we were going to eat there. When we came back for our table we now had to make a decision to wait another 30 minutes, so I asked the waitress about the fries that are marked gluten-free. No. No they are not gluten-free. They are cooked in the same fryer as other breaded foods. This restaurant should not be having this listed as a gluten-free product on their menu. Store-bought products can't even get away with this. read more

We came here at the end of a first Friday around 9/9:30. They told us the wait would be 20-30 minutes, but ended up sitting us quite quickly. When we sat down, people on both sides of us were joking about how abysmal the service was. The people on my right were asking me to send the waiter over after she took our drink orders (water, bottle of beer), saying they had been trying to pay for 30 minutes. We overheard the people on my left asking if they could expedite fries for their hungry kids. The waitress said she couldn't and it would be a while. Turns out, they had already been waiting for an hour for food. After 20 minutes of waiting for the bottled beer and seeing a lightning storm approaching, we decided to leave and try again another day. **leaving 3 stars because we couldn't taste the food.** read more

We just hosted our annual family business Christmas party in the beautifully appointed private carriage house at SideBar and had such a great experience. Even though we were a small group, the GM Alex and events manager Jacob took thoughtful care of us and worked to make sure everything was in place and operating entirely smoothly. (The unexpected champagne delivery and after dinner coffee setup was right out of the surprise and delight marketing manual!) The food was delicious and affordable, and the drinks and very kind bartender were on point - our guests had a leisurely, enjoyable evening, and I'm convinced the carriage house is one of the best kept rental secrets in Leesburg. We came to sidebar one morning for coffee. We ordered lattes and pastries and they were good but not the best we ever had. Line was long and it took a bit of time to get our lattes. There was a cute outside area in the back where we sat for a bit to enjoy our lattes. My absolute favorite restaurant in Leesburg and probably anywhere. The environment is so enjoyable. Live music on weekends, beautiful outdoor seating, and the cutest decor. The service is great and the food is splendid. (The crab cake sandwich is amazing.) The breakfast food is delicious. Every single thing I've got there has been absolutely scrumptious. We really want to love this place but were a little disappointed after going a second time. The white stairs leading up to the Nightshift speakeasy were dirty. Once upstairs there were two rooms on either side that had extra chairs and general stuff piled in. Looked very unkept and not clean. Floor needed to be swept. Although the wait staff was nice and did a good job, they needed a little polishing up on their attire. If there was a little more attention to these type of details it would be so much better. My wife and I walked in through the patio; the place was almost empty. We were told we'd have to check in with the host/hostess at the front entrance. We walked to the front entrance where another couple was waiting to be seated. After about three minutes, a host came to seat the couple. He came back, then walked away without saying a word to us. My wife and I waited another four minutes before we left. I've had similar experiences at Sidebar before. The staff doesn't seem to know what they're doing, yet they always appear to be in a hurry. Keep in mind, there were almost as many employees present as there were customers on this visit. Went here last night for the first time. Only came here because I was celebrating a friends birthday. Came instead & we sat at a high top near the bar. It took forever for someone to greet us and ask us what we wanted to drink though it didn't seem that busy. The place has some pretty high prices for drinks, even for beers. It was hot as balls inside so we went to sit outside on the back deck. But there was no outdoor lighting. I mean there was but our server said the fuse was broken. Then 30 mins later someone can by & flicked a switch and the lights came on... our server just didn't seem to know anything. He couldn't tell us anything about what was on the menu. I found an amazing cider I love & never had before. Luckily I found total wine & more sells it. But honestly I probably wouldn't come back because the service was terrible from two different people and the prices we're too high. read more

So give us a better idea of time. The bartender was great and quick. The service otherwise was terrible. Our waiter got orders wrong. We ordered apps that came out with our dishes. The outside is a nice area, but this place is more of a place to come and have drinks. Not an ideal dinner spot. Especially since the people next to us brought and were smoking cigars. Not during dinner time, gross. I would go back and either have drinks in the bar, or outdoors. Skip the menu. read more

Tried it tonight at 4:30 as Oyster Bar was packed. No one greeted us so we sat at an available table. After 10 minutes or so a young man unceremoniously dropped some menus on the table. It was very warm inside but they did have a couple of fans going. The main dining room appears to be the living room of an old house. I can't say much for the decor, potted plants hung on the walls and not much else with cheap indoor/outdoor tables and chairs. There were a total of 10 customers in the room and maybe one in the bar area. It was incredibly loud with the voices of the other customers, so loud that I couldn't hear what my partner said nor could I hear a word that the server said. He seemed to mostly communicate with hand gestures that we could not really understand. Ordered a Plea Deal cocktail and an ice tea and our food at the same time. The tea came promptly but with no sugar. We ordered the highly recommended the General Tso's Cauliflower and a Cobb Salad to start. The food came out within 10 minutes but still no cocktail. The sugar and the silverware arrived a few minutes later. The cauliflower had a tasty sauce but was so al dente that it was difficult to eat. Maybe it was parboiled for 1 minute? The Cobb would have been beautiful but was cloaked in blue cheese dressing. So soaked that it ran out of the corners of your mouth. We were going to order a main course but our server had disappeared, taking the menus that I had asked him to leave one of. Finally he reappeared with my cocktail and it was decent. Not nearly as good as the $5 happy hour Moscow mule down the block, but it was drinkable. There are a lot of good choices in Leesburg now. King St Oyster and Wine Kitchen are good as is Shoes. Not worth the $36. we paid with tax and tip. read more

I walked into the coffee side of the building, and although a bit cramped, it was adorably rustic and cozy inside. My friend ordered a black coffee, which was self-serve, and I ordered a hot chocolate. I'm not sure if it was made from powder, but it was easily the best hot chocolate I've ever had! It was deliciously smooth, and the little layer of frothiness added the perfect sweetness. I'm not much of a coffee person, but I'd happily come back for another hot chocolate! read more

Look I've tried to look at other places in the local area but there is just something about sidebar. Staff is great, food is ALWAYS on point. Even takeout is amazing. Try the seafood pasta it has enough lobster to satisfy any seafood lover! I don't have pictures because my fiancé and I eat the food too quickly and forget to take the pictures. Great brunch as well! Reposting.] Welcome to SideBar, the latest in a string of recent openings in historic Old Towne Leesburg, all vying for those lucrative suburban wannabe hipster dining dollars. The name left me feeling like it was missing something. The menu helped me find it: the missing letter "F", as in SideBarf. Read on. First impressions first: The staff, or rather, the motley crew of standabouts and runarounds, save for a few moving with some semblance of purpose and reason, are a sight to behold. Now, fashion may be subjective, but some things are never in-season at a restaurant: unkempt appearance and dirty footwear. The "hostess", if she could be called that, seemed either stoned or taking the whole emo thing to its limits, what with the unlaced surplus store army boots shuffling their tongues across the floor and the metal competing for real estate on her listless face, framed by a bird's nest of visibly dirty hair. One of several "managers" insisted on wearing a wool overcoat indoors, pairing it with a flock of almost-dreadlocks bursting out from underneath a bandana, an ensemble meant to convey that "this is just a part-time gig till our band gets signed". Undeterred, we sat, joining the thin crowd of 40-somethings inside. Only taking two requests and 12 minutes, our drinks finally crossed the 10-foot distance from the bar to our table. The menu, when finally delivered, offered such inspired standouts as chicken, salmon, and burger on a bun or without. The stark interior of this 19th century refurb offered little to balance out the bland food selection. It's hard to know where the inspiration and the concept originated. Perhaps, the vast restaurant and business experience of the owners. After cutting their entrepreneurial teeth by running a crabhouse with no crab (Captain Catoctin "Whatever we could get at the market" and Concoctions), the Schnebbes courageously embarked on their current project, a cozy neighborhood bar without ambiance. Local press has also mentioned the recent launch of a food truck by Nils Schnebbe. No news on whether it will take the shape of an actual truck serving food, or will soon morph into a "Free Candy" van pop-up concept. Get your bets in early on this latest entry in Leesburg's restaurant dead pool. Better use of your money than spending it here. read more
