They have a wide variety of pastries, and it was hard to choose because they all looked so delicious. I ended up getting a muffin and a latte. The muffin had just the right amount of sweetness. It was evident that it was freshly baked, with a soft, moist texture that made every bite delightful. The latte had a rich coffee flavor that complemented the muffin. This is actually a really cool place, with good options to eat. However 80% of the staff working here is outright rude and disrespectful. If you go here, make sure the stars are aligned right, because that directly correlates to the mood of the staff. 3 1/2 stars. I've eaten here a few times. Once for a large breakfast with my family, once with my boyfriend to have a quick coffee and pastry type breakfast, and once with my sister-in-law for lunch and coffee. The coffee has always been good. I am a fan of their lattes, and my boyfriend likes their drop coffee. They have a pretty decent selection. I also really enjoy their pastries and baked goods. More often than not, the case can look a bit empty, and I like to think it's because people really like it and order from it often. The huevos rancheros I ordered for breakfast once was good. Not *pow* knock your socks of good, but I enjoyed it. The bucket of fried chicken we shared for lunch was tasty and it didn't come out cold, but I wanted it to come out piping out. Especially since we were having a late lunch and it wasn't very busy inside. For future visits, I'd only come back to enjoy coffee and a scone. I didn't think the price and taste for their entrees were that impressive. read more

Their New Orleans iced coffee (a new menu item as far as I know) was awesome!! Not too sweet (at least for me, not so much for my boyfriend, who added milk to his, since they cannot make it less sweet as it is premixed) and just the right amount of chicory. One cool thing about this place is they offer "picnic service" where you can eat across the street in the grassy knoll. You bring your drinks, and they bring you the food in a picnic basket. As a Lafayette resident, I have been at this place a few times prior to Covid, order take-out frequently and while the food is good but pricey, the customer service has always been spotty but tolerable. Today was my first time eating on their patio with my family since re-opening. The experience today from the newly hired waitresses is AWFUL. The waitress (blond with glasses) and perhaps a host (redhead) were speaking so abrasively with no manners. Two of them (redhead and the bleached blond) came out twice to tell me to put my mask on if I am not eating or drinking, while I am actually doing just that. It was completely unnecessary to do and on top in such a RUDE manner. There were other people there also not wearing masks while eating, but for whatever reason, they decided to "school" me about the rules. Perhaps because I am non-white and look either Latin or Middle-Eastern. It is obvious that those two have very little training and lack of professional experience. As a paying customer, I felt discouraged to go there again. It is one thing to pay for good but overpriced food, but $hity customer service will definitely cost the owner in profits. This place has potential love that it's in front of a park with nice outdoor seating area. Maybe I caught them on a bad day but it tasted like they forgot to season the food. Chicken had potential just no flavor same can be said for the enchiladas. Fries were the best thing I had but I didn't go there for fries. We ate here on a Saturday night. The restaurant was not full, but the noise level was high. Vintage tables and chairs. The dishes are unmatched and old--like they shopped at Goodwill. You wait in line at the register to order, find a table and get your own flatware, napkins and water. We ate family style, sharing numerous dishes among five of us. We started with fried Brussels sprouts that were good but too greasy. The French fries were good, and not greasy. The peasant salad was nice and fresh, like a warm spinach salad with apple slices, pomegranate seeds and no hard boiled egg. I really liked the crunch although the flavor was just ok. The pulled pork sandwich was my favorite. The meat was succulent and flavorful, without any heavy BBQ sauce. I am allergic to cheese, but the mac and cheese looked good. The last dish they served was the bucket of fried chicken. Beautiful looking, but too dry and lacking flavor. Hot pepper honey on the chicken helped, but I don't like honey on my fried chicken. I have been to this location a handful of times and although the food is good if your in the mood for salad and American fare, I think the ambiance is pretty neat. The service is always a little on the cool side if you know what I mean but the other night I was out walking and thought I'd stop in for a cocoa, i had the most rude service imaginable. 2 women were gossiping behind the espresso machine and one of them looked at me 3 times! And literally looked right thru me. I asked them if they were open and I don't know if she didn't see me because she was blind but she simply looked away like my mouth hadn't moved and I wasn't standing at the counter ready to order. I even walked away to check closing time on my phone, I thought maybe they just stop acknowledging ppl once they close but sure enough they were still open For another hour. I walked back to the counter and finally the other woman looked up and begrudgingly came to help me. The $6 +tip cocoa was warm and definitely not enough chocolate, it seemed their conversation was taking president over me- a customer. I get it, but everyone has issues and work is not the place to bring drama especially in the hospitality industry. I served, bartended and was a barista for 10 years and would never do this. It was nasty and rude. A surveillance tape would confirm this experience if they have it but from now on I'll take my business to Lafayette's Tutu's. I felt like they didn't want me as a customer anyhow. Bummer bc I really wanted to have this be a spot for me and my son to visit as he grew up. read more

Not much of a fan. I wanted to be and hoped to be, as I had heard a lot of good things about it, but its waaay out of my budget and price range, for the amount of food given. Its too bad, too, cause I found its atmosphere to be cute and quaint, a bit on the funky side, even though it has a beachy openness side to it. It is nice that the restaurant provides quarters to their customers to help with the metered parking that envelopes the area, but for me, on my tight budget, its just doesn't help enough. This is a cute little spot in Lafayette. The parking is somewhat inconvenient, but if you get lucky you can grab a spot right out front (that of course has a meter). You order at the front counter, which would be fine if they had a large menu to look at while you waited. They don't, so ordering takes much longer as people get to the counter and decide what to eat. They then give you a number and you seat yourself and grab your own silverware. The food was adequate, but my dirty chai latte was served in a soup bowl without a handle. Normally I wouldn't mind, but of course they only have paper straws that don't even handle cold liquids well. It basically became limp as soon as I put it in the latte. Overall, I would come back only if a friend wanted to, as I think at busy times the ordering process is a cluster, and it's kind of annoying to get up several times to keep grabbing things you need (salt, pepper, cream, sugar, water) especially when you have chronic pain. The staff also were not super friendly and I had to repeat my order because the guy at the counter wasn't fully paying attention. read more

I've been here a handful of times now since it's right by my office and have had a solid experience each time. My favorite thing about Sideboard is that you can get blankets and a picnic basket from them and sit outside on the lawn! We did that the first time I went and it just made for the most relaxing lunchtime. I believe I've had a burger and salad here before, but my most recent meal there was my favorite. I got the meatloaf sandwich and the flavor was excellent. And it was delightfully juicy and soft. Service was good too. read more

My coworker brought me here after a morning hike around the reservoir a week ago. I've been day dreaming of the breakfast pudding ever since! I had the breakfast salad which was very yummy as well. I've tried the veggie scramble and fried garlic potatoes but found the scramble to be a bit rich and missing something. Their lattes and pastries are good. Happy to have discovered this quaint little eatery neighborhood eatery. The decor is warm and inviting. You order at the counter and get served at the table. I ordered the Breakfast pudding with goat cheese and asparagus. It was so moist and fluffy packed with delicious cheesy flavors. Their Four Barrels drip coffee was excellent! Sideboard is such a great place to go to on a weekend morning because the actual restaurant space is so quaint and cute, and they even have water bowls for your dogs outside! I had high expectations for Sideboard coming in because the menu items all sounded really delicious. After you place your order, they give you a cute table number sign with clever puns and I got a laugh out of that :) Unfortunately when my order of breakfast mac n cheese came ( mac n cheese, bacon, and eggs), I took one bite and felt that it was both too dry and too heavy. Somehow I thought that the dish would play out a little better, perhaps with a more saucy cheese sauce. If the dish was too dry, maybe even having the runny egg yolk spill out into the dish could have helped. The banana pudding dessert though was good, and would return to try other menu items. read more

Great location, friendly staff, food looks great but taste bland. We ordered the tater tots for our tot and they didn't taste that great. They were bland and appeared to be deep fried mashed potato balls. I had the breakfast burger and that to was bland. The egg was not seasoned it lacked salt and pepper and the patty was too thick and lacked seasoning as well. The cheese was the best part of the burger. Not bad just nothing to write home about. The pour over coffee was yummy though. Overall this is an average establishment with nice location. read more

I've been here a couple times and I love the atmosphere! It's a great spot to study. The service is wonderful and friendly. The blossoming jasmine tea is my all-time favorite, absolutely worth a try. The elderberry tea was substantial. Pretty much what I expected. In terms of food, I would highly recommend the zin poached pear and chocolate. I cut up the pear into smaller pieces and smothered it in the grain and chocolate - i will definitely be back for it. The brussels sprouts were a bit unappealing - they were very plain. The aioli was the only saving grace, but it could only do so much. Lastly, I've had the fries with spicy ketchup. They were delicious and came with a healthy serving of fries.
