We had a delicious bowl of cappuccino and the Gravlox egg bendicts were superb. Housemade english muffings topped with soft poached eggs, generous portion of housemade cured salmon, with Hollandaise, capers, and chives. I want to start out by saying that the service was very friendly, and everybody who worked there was exceedingly accommodating of my service dog. That is not the reason for less than 5 stars. In terms of seating, the options were pretty adequate. The chairs I did try were not comfortable chairs. While I was there with my service dog, three or four pet dogs came in, jumping up on people, skittering, and trying to get to my service dog. I didn't love that. Staff did not kick them out. You order up at the counter for brunch and then they give you a marker for your table and bring the food to you. The man who brought our food was very friendly and accommodating. Because I am gluten-free, I didn't have a lot of options, because most of their items that are marked gluten-free or not kosher, and I don't eat pork. This was fine with me, I was happy to eat a side salad. I let them know I have celiac at the counter, and later saw they had put a note on my order, "GLUTEN FREE!!!" Which I appreciated and is the reason for the fourth star. I paid $9.75 for a side salad. The side salad is supposed to come with a variety of toppings on it; Parmesan, shaved fennel, and Dijon vinaigrette. I was pretty disappointed with my side salad. They gave me about 2 cups of arugula, and with that much arugula, I received about 4 pieces of shaved fennel. They did also give me a few small slices of what looked and tasted like persimmon, which was a nice surprise. it came with a small side of Parmesan to put on top as I pleased. The arugula-to- topping ratio was horrendous. When they first brought it to me, I assumed that the toppings would be mixed throughout, but the fennel and persimmon that you see in the picture is the only fennel and persimmons that were in the entire salad. There was barely any fennel, barely any persimmon, and even though it was generously dressed, it did not taste like Dijon. It was very sour, like it was mostly just vinegar. It was an enormous amount of arugula to eat with just Parmesan on top. I also got a dirty chai latte. The presentation was very pretty, with a little bit of cinnamon on top of foam, but my latte did not taste like chai at all. Just sort of steamed oat milk with espresso in it and cinnamon on top. For $10, I expected just a better latte. The serving is a normal size; it comes in a cup, which is about the size of a 1 cup measure. They gave it to me with a saucer which I liked, but the cup itself did not have a handle, meaning that I had to pick it up like a bowl (well, actually, not "like" a bowl-- it is a bowl) and sip it like soup, Without something to hold onto. As somebody who has a very hard time using their hands due to a disability, this made me nervous about drinking out of the cup. It was not accessible. The people i dined with were OK with their food, but did not finish their dishes all the way. The cinnamon roll was wrapped in such a way that it was very difficult for a dining companion to take off the wrapper and eat it, and there was a very sparse amount of frosting on it. I think overall the experience here wasn't bad at all; the staff was very friendly and the food was fine. However, for just a side salad and a latte-- neither of which were very good-- I paid over $20. I feel like I would have given another star if my meal had been half or even 3/4 of the price that I paid for it. But I'm just not sure it was worth it. Parking was fine mid morning on a sunday. But visited today and had a worker sweep all around the table where I was still eating (call me paranoid, but wouldn't be surprised if some dirt got into my fries). She also later stood right next me to clean some machine right in back of me and it was super noisy -- so that I had to shift to get out of her way. She didn't apologize, so it felt super rude. I always loved Sideboard's lunch, and was really looking forward to brunch on this MLK holiday. Even better was that they had their special holiday menu offering, which I think is their expanded weekend selections. We had a party of 10, and knew it will be a hit or miss with trying to find indoor seating on a rather cold morning. We arrived a bit after 9:15 and got lucky with their one long table and benches insides that could have easily even seat 18. Ordering and seating is just like their Danville location - stand in line and place your order at the single cashier, get a table number and wait for the yumminess to arrive. Meanwhile when waiting, grab your silverware and cups of water at their sideboards. A very cute concept! This location actually has two sideboards. On either side of their interior. Seating also is limited at this location with nearly an equal amount of seats inside as outside. While I have never had brunch at their Danville location, the brunch seemed to be just okay here with multiple people saying that the food was slightly bland. The presentation is beautiful, but the food was a bit underwhelming. There were some exceptions such as the delicious beignets that were perfectly crisped and not too sweet, the French toast, and the flavorful fries that accompanied the Breakfast Burger. Prices are rather on the higher side given it is a fast casual type of restaurant service. In any case, I always love and continue to love the cute ambience and hominess of Sideboard! I only had a salad but I was expecting a lot more from it. A Thai chicken salad was described very nicely in the menu but did do justice to the description. I work walking distance from Sideboard so it's been my go to eatery. They have a big menu of breakfast, sandwiches, bigger lunch entrees, coffees, and pastries. I've had their bacon scramble, Plato Mexicano, chicken pot pie, grilled chicken sandwich, chicory coffee, and a couple pastries. My favorite has been the Plato Mexicano. The chicken sandwich came out pretty quickly which leads me to believe that the chicken is precooked and warmed up. The chicken pot pie was extremely soupy and needed some peas or veggies. Although I have been to the Danville location multiple times, this was my first visit ever at the Lafayette location. Much like the Danville location, this spot also has both indoor and outdoor dining options available. And is equally just as popular and busy as Danville. Unlike Danville however, the outdoor dining here is right next to a parking lot. So you don't quite get the quiet, cozy ambiance the Danville location provides. Service here is pretty friendly as I've come to expect from having visited the Danville location multiple times. And our food was served to us pretty promptly after we sat ourselves. Since I was there for brunch, I opted for something a bit lighter and chose the french toast. Which arrived topped with blueberries, strawberries, syrup, and a dollop of whip cream. It was quite tasty, and very enjoyable for a breakfast/brunch meal. Also ordered one of their blueberry scones ($4.75) and a chocolate chip ($3.25) to-go, and they were very good after being toasted first before eating. We arrived around 11:30am on a Sunday, and that appears to be the magic time right before the lunchtime crowd comes in and all the tables are filled up. read more

A few weeks ago I came to Sideboard to meet up with a friend for lunch before going to the Lafayette Reservoir for a walk. Parking is available, but it can be hellish to find a spot. I waited across the parking lot in the park for my friend to arrive before we went in. The set up here is tables for four or more people on the right side and on the left it is like lunch room table dining. There are long tables to sit at. As soon as I walked in there was a line. You order and pay for the food before you sit down, so aside from the wait staff delivering the food to your table, there isn't anyone coming to check in on your food or get those extra things you need. Now on to my order. Truthfully I don't even remember what i ordered as a main entree. I know it came with home fries. I suppose it was okay because I remember finishing my plate, but it's the desserts that stood out to me. As a to go order I got carrot cake and a pumpkin cheesecake. I ordered a snickerdoodle cookie that I ate there. It was good, and popular too. I ordered the last one. The pumpkin cheesecake wasn't my favorite. It was rather dry. I don't know how else to describe it but I'm learning for me to like a cheesecake is more rare than I initially thought. I make cheesecakes that I love, but this didn't pass the test of good eats for me. Now, the carrot cake??? Different story. That carrot cake is a 10/10. I got a healthy sized slice. The thickness of the carrot cake combined with the icing melted me into a puddle of sugary happiness. read more

Okay peeps let's see who is in the chopping block today!!! Yes you have heard it today's new adventure for the Dendingers was sideboard. There is nothing to it so let's get to it! Let's start off with how the outside of the place looked like. Well for those who enjoy this lovely hot weather they do have outdoor seating. Side note they have something in store for us when we go inside and give you a surprise as to what other seating they have for us to enjoy. The outside was very clean so codos to yall for keeping this place neat and clean. As for the inside when you walk in you are immediately feeling a sensation of a homie vibe so yesss to this. As you look around you see a lot of seating inside for those that are students you have a long table on the left hand side for you and you buddies or a table facing the windows with barstools on them. Now I must say I love the fact that they let you pick out your own silverware which is amazing specially for someone that enjoys going to thrift store and finding old school utensils. Anyways as you look around you see a lot of signs one that I enjoy and laugh at was the one that says "unattended children will be sold to the circus" now that is funny. Anyways you also see so much delicious desserts including muffins, puddings and cookies. Now let's dig in to this menus there is different menus they have a weekend menu they had a weekday menu as well. I will not lie the prices are high but the quality is amazing just ooo at the pictures and see for yourself. So I decided to try this place on Sunday and I was indecisive on what to order. I was torn between Chilaquiles and French toast so I decided to go with French toast, which in the menu it stated that it came with fresh whipped cream berries, and of course, some fluffy French toast to be honest, I decided to go with the orange juice, but I really wanted to try the mimosas but sadly I was working that day so no alcohol for me, when the food was brought out, it was within 5 to 10 minutes that I was already eating besides the fact that they had a long line they were able to bring out food very quickly so I was super happy about that because I only get an hour lunch so I wanted to make sure that I at least had something to eat within that hour I also decided to take my wife at this place since it felt like home so we decided to try it out today and I noticed that the menus were different. I decided to go with a breakfast sandwich which included a sunny side, egg, arugula, ham and if I'm pretty sure, I think it was Swiss cheese, my wife decided to get grilled chicken breast with pesto sauce and chips on the side for drinks today we decided both to get a Coca-Cola and for the table we decided to get a corn on the cob with lemon. I'm gonna say mayonnaise and feta, which to be honest, I have never in my life had feta on the corn on the cob, but it actually worked out. It was mind blowing like that first fight. We both stated that it tasted likelemon flavored lays which is so weird but it actually worked out. For Sundays order it came up to be around $40 and that was just only me and for today's order it was almost $70 but to be honest it is worth every penny oh we also decided to get some homemade salt and vinegar chips so if they are as good as the chips that we got on that Chicken breast sandwich then we have nothing to worry about, but I am so excited to dig into those. Anyways, like I told you guys the big surprise as far as where else can you eat in that establishment so they have this little thing where you're able to get one of their blankets that are outside and you're able to take your food picnic style which means that they'll go ahead and put your food in this little picnic basket. They just ask you not to take any silverware or any glass to the park. It's like a little area up in the front and honestly for those people that just wanna enjoy a couple moment or enjoy just being with your kiddos or with the pup, that is the best thing anybody could suggest like you not only have us sitting inside of the diner or outside they actually have you doing a picnic style lunch which is amazing honestly so is this restaurant the Dendinger approve? This is a unique place I came across in Lafayette downtown. They have a variety on snack options, n guess what, you can also setup a picnic at the park in the front with a picnic mat, basket n chill with frnz for free. Perfect pass time for a sunny day to catch up with frnz. For a person who isn't a fan of pudding, their Banana pudding tasted great. Along with an Agua fresca, it was a great way to spend a summer evening. They do have cocktails as well. read more

Came by on a Sunday to grab a sandwich. I've been to the Danville location a few times, and this one had the same kitschy decor and menu/bakery selection. One big plus at this location is the grassy area right out front. If the seating is full, it's nice to have the option to picnic, or let the kids run around a little. (The outdoor seating is very limited, so seats fill quickly). I usually come for brunch, so I asked the cashier to recommend a sandwich - she spoke very highly of the fried chicken, and it was delicious! It came with a side of house made potato chips. My kids both wanted to try a bite of my food, and loved it as well. The person who helped me was friendly, the wait time was about what you'd expect for a hot sandwich, nice to be able to grab your own water while waiting. One negative: the leather armchairs were very worn - the material was flaking off the seats. Still, nice little spot to grab brunch or lunch. read more

It's my go-to when people come to Lamorinda. I've been here countless times for appetizers and drinks, lunch, brunch, dinner, and just for an afternoon coffee. Sometimes the service is lacking - there seems to be a high turnover and a passing point for most. With that in mind, the expectation of having somebody who knows the menu or will politely bring you some food is pretty low. Most of the time the prices sting (as most prices in Lamorinda do). The service is very good. The ambience is nice. I made the mistake of ordering a chicken bahn mhi sandwich. On a scale of one to 10 it rates a zero. It was lumpy chicken on doughy bread with very little veggies. Plus, I paid $25 for this awful sandwich. That price included tax and tip. If you want a good bahn mhi sandwich, go to Kibbi's in Orinda or in Walnut Creek. They charge $8.50 for an excellent chicken bahn mhi served on crispy bread. That's the way it's supposed to be. Omg if you want a really cute and fun brunch spot, this is the place! I came here to meet someone and the atmosphere is lively and feels like you're walking into a family's home for brunch. Sideboard is one of our family favorite spots to grab delicious baked goods and warm drinks for breakfast and healthy salads for lunch. You order at the front counter and they will heat up any baked goods you wish which I highly recommend doing. Food and drinks come to your table within 5-10 minutes. You can sit in the cozy and welcoming indoor tables which also have some common tables in addition to private ones. There is also a great patio with heat lamps and blankets available. Food and drinks can also be ordered to go. We used to love coming here as a family. But man, has this place gone downhill. Service is terrible. A couple people who work here are just flat out nasty to customers (especially those with a book or a laptop). Lines are long and notwell-managed. There are screaming kids in every corner, and for some reason, no parent seems to know how to navigate this in a public restaurant (take them outside, for starters). This used to be a great place to sit and work, but Sideboard now blasts music so loudly you can't hear yourself think. Even if you bring your own headphones, their music drowns yours out. If you try to read a book anywhere except for the one (crowded) designated community table, next the girl talking to herself and the guy coughing up a lung, you will get your a$$ handed to you - even if there are half a dozen empty tables. It's a shame, we've been coming here for nearly 15 years and have written them a bunch of five star reviews, but we won't be back. read more

Friend had salmon eggs benedict with argula salad. The sauce was heavy thick, and bright yellow. The coffee looked great. We had to clean the table, get our water, glass and utensils. Yummy brunch option in Lafayette! The inside is definitely quirky, with mismatched silverware you serve yourself, and the outside patio pleasant with a view of downtown Lafayette and optional lawn on which you can picnic as well. My biggest quip with Sideboard is not much on the menu stands out to me personally - it's pretty standard brunch fare, but I personally tend to like to go for something a little different. Still, they do it well - This past visit my party of two tried an eggs benedict (eggs perfect doneness for that lovely oozy cut) and breakfast burger (meaty, crispy fries with yummy ketchup) and overall we enjoyed our experience. These items had large, plentiful servings and the order came out pretty quickly. Prices standard for brunch. I love our Sideboard in Danville, so I've always wanted to check out the Lafayette one to see the difference. Well it did not disappoint! Food yummy and ambiance inside super nice. Too cold to sit outside though looks like they do have a small front patio. I just love their baked goods and small touches throughout the restaurant. Their English muffins are one of my faves, oh and their homemade potato chips yummy! We've had many a meal breakfast, lunch and dinner at Sideboard... but sometimes coffee or tea and a baked goodie with a friend in this cozy place it a perfect place to meet up. I hate places where I have to order at the counter and usually avoid them, but I'm so so glad I got over myself for Sideboard. Everything was absolutely phenomenal. The cappuccino and coffee were some of the best I've had. The plato Mexicano was incredible and didn't skimp on the delicious pork. Stopped in the Sidebar via my Yelp app, of course! Eggcellent service from Jason out in the deck today as he was running around trying to take care of all the guests! Food was good, actually pretty great!!! My original egg on the potatoes was over cooked and Jason took care of it. I felt bad for him bcuz he was running so hard and folks were stopping him to ask more questions, etc. He handled the rush with grace, great service and a great attitude! I could tell he was slammed yet he was still really kind and attentive. Food was really good and Jason brought me a box for leftovers.
