Their outdoor patio space is impressive, and if you wanted to do a little birthday get together here, it would be cute. Plus, there is ample parking here as it shares a lot with Howlin Rays. The one thing I'm not too crazy about is it's rather narrow inside, which means you may have to stand outside to wait in line depending on how busy it is (which is something I haven't had to do at any of the other locations). I came to this store looking for dessert. It's actually hard to find a nice donut place open after regular office hours. Luckily, this store did not disappoint. There were also some samples to the side, always a nice touch when you're at a new place for the first time. I ended up trying both the Huckleberry and the Birthday cake ones. The only caution I can give you is that the donuts are less like traditional ones you might get from Krispy Kreme. Instead, they're more like cake in the form of a doughnut. I love donuts, especially ones with unique flavors. It's been many years since I've been to Sidecar, and I was glad to learn there's now one in Pasadena, much closer to home. We can by after brunch nearby on Lake St. The parking lot of tight and shared with Howlin' Rays, so good luck on getting a spot. I found one across the street. The entrance is in the back, accessible via parking lot. Once you enter, pick out what you want, move on down the line, pay and that's it. There are some counter seats in case you can't wait to go home. Napkins and such are at the end of the line, near the exit. We came around 1ish and seems like they were already out of some flavors. Each customer has a staff member who helps them, so be warned someone behind you can grab that last donut before you even get to it. We wanted a cookies and creme and waited to move down the line, only to have another staff grab it for the people that came in after us. I guess we snoozed. We tried a few flavors. Choc-alot tastes like a regular chocolate donut. Nothing fancy, just a familiar flavor. 3/5. Strawberry buttermilk was very soft and airy with a nice thin glaze. 4/5. Matcha strawberry creme was the most unique and the flavors paired well together. 4.5/5. The staff, especially the ashier was super friendly. I guess these are the going prices for trendy donuts now, ranging from $5.5 to right under $7. I honestly feel a little ashamed admitting this... but how did I not discover Sidecar Donuts sooner?! After passing by so many times--either getting off the 110 in Pasadena or eating at Houston's--I finally stopped in, and now I'm hooked. The first bite of the Huckleberry donut changed everything. I went back way too many times in just two weeks and even started bringing boxes home for my family--I couldn't keep the obsession to myself. I'm especially obsessed with the Butter & Salt donut--it's the perfect balance of sweet and savory--and the Saigon Cinnamon Crumble is absolutely unbelievable. The Old Fashioned is also a classic done right. They have an awesome rewards program, and when you download their app for the first time, you get a free donut and drink. Strawberry milk- had small chunk of strawberries inside, has the flavor and has a nice fluff to it. Butter and salt-if your not into all that fancy stuff on your donut then the salt and butter would probably be your donut of choice. Just butter and salt donut. Luckily for us, this location is right next to the spicy, hot Howlin Ray's so we can get a spicy and sweet combo going. This location has a free, small, shared parking lot with Howlin Ray's. Street parking is also free, so there's nothing stopping us from paying them a visit. I came on a Saturday afternoon and there was no line. They had two sample options at the time, the Huckleberry and the Strawberry Buttermilk. I tried the Huckleberry and it was delicious. It has a slightly sweet glaze with a bit of chew. I ordered a box of 6 donuts for $29 - Huckleberry, Butter & Salt, Celebration Cake, Maple Bacon, Vanilla Bean Glazed, and Strawberry Milk. These donuts are gourmet and dense. The must try flavor is the Butter & Salt. The texture of the donut has a mochi-like bite. I've never had a salty donut, so I can see why it's a popular choice. If you're looking for a more fluffy donut, the Vanilla Bean Glazed was a good option. Overall, I prefer fluffy donuts, so my rating is a 4/5 based on personal preference. Sidecar Doughnuts.. Great to see them grow out of their Costa Mesa location and being around for more than a decade. I can't believe I used to drive out to the CM location for these specialty donuts. If you live in Dena, there's no reason to leave. They have everything now including a Howlin Rays which is next door to Sidecar. Came here on a whim since we were doing errands in Dena and figure we come after the lunch rush. It was around 2 pm so you'd figure they'd make a round after lunch for mid afternoon. It was a bit disappointing to see they lacked inventory to see with only a few to choose from. With only two in front of us and two patrons behind us, it wasn't busy. Being a new location, it looked like this place needed to get their rhythm and timing down. Without having to wait for another wave of fresh doughnuts, we ordered the berry parfait and lemon poundcake. Berry parfait is February 2025 flavor and consist of a yeast filled donut with raspberry filling and topped with a glaze and cream. Fairly good but the issue I have with Sidecar is there's barely any filling. Good flavor though. The lemon poundcake is pretty good. It's a cake doughnut with a nice lemon glaze. The patrons before and after me left because of the limited inventory. Interesting enough, they had an assorted few dozen that were sitting out but they said they couldn't sell because they were over an hour old. I love Sidecar Doughnuts. I'm familiar with them from their Newport location. This newish Pasadena store is in a nice area, east side of Arroyo. Parking lot shared with Howlin' Ray's Chicken which inhabits the historic Adohr Milk Farms building. So, plenty of charm to the location. While it is a bit cramped inside the store, they do have shaded outdoor seating. Donuts are yummy, so no complaints there. Still the same high quality, tasty, fresh donuts with unique flavor profiles and their creative seasonal variations. Knocked a point off because the store - probably because it's newer - hasn't quite found its stride yet, in my opinion. Staff are a bit sloppy and inconsistent. Examples: 1) Ordered 4 donuts in a box that was slightly deformed, so the staff person tried to force the box into shape which didn't quite work. Not a big deal, but not a nice presentation to gift. 2) Asked if they had a decaf Americano. Was told that they didn't have a decaf Americano, only decaf lattes. For coffee drinkers, you know that's a head scratcher. Both are espresso drinks. If you can make one decaf, you can make the other dcaf. The regular caffeinated Americano is strong and good though! Family went to explore Sidecar since we were waiting in line for Howling Rays....there was no line yet in the doughnut shop.... And the specialty Dubai flavored was coming up. The facility is open and we can see the whole process to making doughnuts which was very cool. They had samples, the service was great... the best doughnuts- blueberry anything... the chocolate as well. The Dubai was aesthetically delicious but the filling needed more sweetness... I know that's odd to ask for more sweetness in a doughnut... but its flavor was not quite as satisfying. Either way we will be back to try more! The parking lot is full and luckily found a parking spot. My sister and I waited outside to line up. Once the line was shorter inside, the service worker was nice. My wish came true! Sidecar Doughnuts finally opened in Pasadena! Of course, the lines have been outrageous. It also happens to be located next to the hottest joint in town - Howlin' Ray's, which is why I decided to stop in at 6:30 in the morning. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted with "Hello" by each member of the staff. Wow! What a wonderful way to start the day! I was offered a sample of some doughnuts: Butter & Salt, Lemon Pound Cake, Cookies & Cream. I tried the Cookies & Cream. It was scrumptious. Cookie Monster would approve. Sidecar specializes in cake and yeast raised doughnuts (Vegan & Gluten Free options too), and they are made in small batches throughout the day to ensure freshness. Ameen assisted me and he was an absolute sweetheart - very polite and friendly. I ordered an Old Fashion and a Caramel Latte. The barista was also darling, and she handed me my latte with a smile. The first sip on my lips was pure bliss. The creamy foam topping and house made caramel syrup was a delight. Since the Old Fashion is a cake doughnut it was dense but also light and moist. I could taste the buttermilk and a hint of cinnamon & nutmeg. The vanilla bean glaze added the right amount of sweetness. It was also still warm from the oven, which made it even more delicious! They share a parking lot with Howlin' Ray's so depending on the time-of-day parking may be tight, but street parking is also available. This place is located right next to Howlin Ray's and they share a parking lot. It can be crowded when the restaurant opens but in the morning it is easy to find parking. Huckleberry is my go to donut here! Mapel bacon and salt&butter is my other favorites. I came during their first weekend of opening and there was a line but it went pretty quick. Overall: 8.5/10 As someone who's not a fan of donuts, I actually really enjoy Sidecar! Bf LOVES donuts and he LOVES Sidecar (so much so that he would be willing to drive distances for it!). We arrived around 5:10PM on a Friday, which means no street parking on the main street so only parking lot or side street parking. We drove for about 25 minutes in circles, through the parking lot, around the block, into other parking lots, before finally just deciding to sit and wait for someone to leave in the Sidecar lot. We were worried they would run out of donuts since they closed at 6PM. We got into the store around 5:35PM, which was actually perfect timing because they had just cranked out a fresh batch of some donuts. Bf and I got four donuts (about $19 for four): 1) Strawberry rose donut (seasonal): 9/10. Not super super sweet, warm, and so soft. Even as a not-donut-fan, this was so good. 2) Vanilla glaze donut: 8.5/10 for me. A tad bit sweet for me but sooooo good when warm. So soft again. 3) Choc-a-lot: 9/10. The least sweet of the bunch surprisingly, like a dark chocolate. This wasn't fresh/warm but was still really good. If it were fresh, I think this would be my perfect donut (I LOVE chocolate!!!). 4) Huckleberry: I didn't taste this but Bf said it was good, not his favorite. Overall, I see Sidecar as a solid donut place as someone who's not a fan of donuts. However, I would not go unless dropping someone off or during the off-hours on weekdays. Still tasty, but not as good as they would've been fresh. This location shares a parking lot with the extremely popular Howlin' Rays. While the businesses are probably busiest at different times, it can still making parking hectic. We went early on a Sunday while folks are in church and had no trouble finding parking. There wasn't even a line! Inside of the shop is stressful. They take your order at the end of the doughnut counter, so you don't even get a chance to check out all the flavors. On top of that, there is bar style seating parallel to the register, making the space very cramped. I think the seating inside was a mistake, the seating outside is more than enough. I had stumbled across the soft opening of Sidecar Doughnuts & Coffee here in Pasadena. They opened in the same plaza as Howlin Rays and I happend to be there to buy lunch. So I waited to see what the crowd and the line that was forming was all about. And then after a short wait, right at noon, they opened up. They had a few of their flavors available and it was very exciting to see some of my old favorites here. I've gone to other locations which are a lot further away soI'm really glad that they are in town now I was able to get the huckleberry, the butter and salt, lemon poundcake, and a Saigon cinnamon crumb. They were also doing a promotion so I was able to take advantage of that which was a pleasant surprise overall. It was great to experience something so unexpectedly. Parking here is going to be a mess since it is already tough generally. There should be some street parking too if you're lucky. The donuts are great here. It's worth a try if you're in the area and haven't had any of them before. They're typically made in smaller batches so they're constantly making and coming out with fresh donuts. The team here was really nice and they explained that everything that is out is what is available for now. So what you see is what you get. I can't wait until they have everything available. Happy to have a Sidecar on this side! I typically don't crave doughnuts, but this place is one of the few exceptions! Their concoctions are more on the cakier side, and all of their flavors are solid, my favorite being their signature butter and salt. Sidecar is right next to Howling Rays so parking might be an issue. The private lot would likely fill up fast so street parking is best. It's a nice cute spot with outdoor seating for those with dogs. There's also indoor seating although it feels it can be cramped. The music is kinda loud that I had to shout my order. It's better outside but makes it difficult to chat with others. That being said, the donuts are delicious. If you're a fan of cakey donuts then this is definitely worth a chance! The donuts are nice and soft, not too dense and not dry. The donuts are not overly sweet. The flavors are a mix of simple classics and fun/unique flavors. I'm not a doughnut person, but these doughnuts were so good! I got the strawberry glaze and the vanilla one which reminded me of a more traditional glazed doughnut. Friendly service! I also ordered a vanilla latte and not sure if this was a one off but the drink kept leaking which was a hassle as it got on my dress. Parking in the back but it's shared with the shop next door.
