This review and rating is based on two visits. The first was a breakfast visit and that would have rated 4 stars alone but after a lunch visit that I could not rate at zero stars I averaged the two. Breakfast was good, the carnitas scramble was very good. Our lunch visit was much less than I expected. First I ordered the western burger with fries which was described as having grilled onions, cheese and barbeque sauce. The burger arrived on a cold bun which was 3/4" thick top and bottom, the onions were still crunchy and were not only not grilled and would not even quality as sweated! The fries continued the disappointment, they were of the frozen variety. After such a good breakfast on a previous visit made with fresh ingredients I would have expected hand cut fries. Now for the nachos my wife ordered; The ground beef nachos arrived with some canned cheese poured on the chips, a chopped up hamburger patty atop that with a couple of spoonfuls of pico and a couple of slices of avocado. Next I will talk about service. We arrived about 12:30 and the dining room was nearly vacant; I believe there were two others dining. We reviewed the menu, ask a couple of questions and ordered. It took an extraordinary amount of time for our meal to arrive and then the waitperson only checked back once after the food was delivered. After eating as much as we cared to we again waited for a check with the waitperson telling us there was a "10 top" on the other side. I had high expectations based on reviews on Yelp and breakfast met those expectations; We will not be returning for lunch and will probably not try out luck at dinner.. read more

Second tip to Sidewalk Café, the first was just super, the second, not so, the wife had Eggs Benedict with Fried Potatoes, eggs were perfect, and potatoes were over cooked and some under cooked. I had Huevos Rancheros, Refried Beans and Fried Potatoes, the eggs should have been over easy, they were cooked hard, no beans, my potatoes were okay. When I as our server about this, I was informed the kitchen was backed up and he is sorry, not what can I do to make it right. This is a POOR example of customer service. I know this place can do better, but if not they do not need to be in business. read more

Decent comfort food. Good portion sizes but man is service slow. We've been coming here since it opened and as of our most recent visits we have to flag someone down just get someone to notice we were seated 5-10 mins ago and we'd like to place an order. So better server awareness would make each visit a good one. read more

My father, my aunt and I went to dinner last night and my father had suggested this place because he had eaten there once before and thought it was good. Our experience last night was far from satisfying. We were one of only 6 tables being occupied in the whole place...and it still took over 40 minutes to get our food! After seeing 2 other tables who came in after us get their food, we asked about our food and were told just a few more minutes. 10 minutes later and still no food, the waiter finally comes up to our table and says that mine and my aunts food is ready, but that they forgot to make my dads food and it would be another 15 minutes. We all finally got our food and it wasn't horrible, but not worth waiting that long for. Another issue was that it was hot as could be in the restaurant, it felt like the AC was broken or something. We were sitting in a booth and all 3 of us had to keep wiping the sweat off of our legs because they kept sticking to the seats. I even mentioned to the waiter about it being hot in there and he just laughed like I was kidding or something. I saw a lady at the next table fanning herself with the menu so I know we weren't the only ones who were hot. Overall, very disappointing, probably not going back there any time soon. read more

I've been coming to this place since they opened, as their food was really great and I loved the environment. These things have taken a severe downturn recently. As someone who's frequented this establishment 1-2 a week during the past year, changes have indeed occurred and they are not for the better. First off, last night (Friday July 19), the AC was out yet again (it's pretty much a constant in the evenings right now), and the dining room was a balmy 85 degrees. We should've just turned around and left, but had Cinemark movies tickets and the food is usually very good. Big mistake to stay. The server informed us that it was 99 in the kitchen and that the cooks were under extreme duress. That must've been why our salads took 35 minutes at arrive, and when they did, our order was still minus one item, which then took another ten minutes to appear. Heat was intolerable and it was not the first time, the food was mediocre at best, the mini pies formerly so delicious even now come with consistently soggy crusts, and the ladies room was a stinky disaster-no ventilation, no air freshener, and very dirty. Is the owner really so oblivious here? We complained to our server about all of this, nary a visit from the owner who was there but seemingly oblivious. Much of the night crowds must already know about the insufficient AC and declining food quality as they've been noticeably absent in recent weeks. I've also noticed a continuous turnover in waitstaff-which is no wonder given the state of things. I'll be joining them and dining elsewhere because a pleasant dining experience for me includes AC, delicious food served promptly by pleasant and efficient servers, and a ladies room that doesn't look like it's been displaced from a roadside truckstop. read more

Great service! The breakfast skillets are fabulous and the eggs are cooked correctly. Good value and close to the movie theater.

We love, love the sidewalk cafe. My wife and I sometimes get a slow start on the weekend and they serve wonderful breakfast all day. Try the Carnitas, you won't be sorry. They fresh bake goods all the time and make good sandwiches and grilled entrees. read more

Some of the very worst service ever. There were quite a few employees and the restaurant was not all that busy. There seemed to be no rhyme or reason to what waiter was covering what table or section of the restaurant. It was obvious that everyone was getting awful service. The people around us were annoyed with the service as we were. We had empty drinks often. The food took forever. The waiter was nowhere to be found most of the time. It took forever to get the check. Several waiters just hovered in their little drink/kitchen/computer area while customers sat with no drinks or food or checks or orders taken. Unreal. read more

Carnitas breakfast plate is tasty! The steaming hot corn tortilla and the shredded pork stir fried with eggs and jalapeño is just wonderful for a weekend breakfast. all the waiter and waitress are very attentive. I think the coffee is not outstanding that's why I can only give 4 stars. read more

Sidewalk Cafe - Cafes Near Me - Denton, Texas

This place is awesome for breakfast! There were four of us and between us, we had pancakes, eggs, hash browns, a club sandwich, and sweet potato fries. Service was great, the atmosphere is warm and comfortable, and everything was delicious and seemed to be completely homemade. I would definitely recommend the Sidewalk Café, and we will be going back during our next trip to Dallas/Lewisville! read more

Their food is good, but SO SLOW. I don't understand why it takes 45 minutes to get a lunch salad. Dinner is even worse.

My daughter & I had breakfast here. The food is good, the service is slow and so is the food coming out of the kitchen. They weren't that busy! My husband and I used to frequent this place when it was owned by Technie, Maria and Yolanda. Everything was always great. It was also BYOB. New owner started selling beer and wine which is fine except when they charge $8.00 for a glass of Chardonnay, mediocre Chardonnay. The food was mediocre too. The place has no atmosphere unless you like really bright lighting. That it has. Won't be back. read more

Close to home for us, I love the pancakes here!! Our lunch & dinner are always consistently prepared properly. Salad was fresh, cold and crisp! The sandwiches are great! There's not enough to say about this great hidden gem! Awesome staff and great food! My build your own omelet was stuffed with ingredients! Have always had great good and great service here. My favorite is the number 3 breakfast combo because you get two eggs, bacon or sausage, pancakes or French toast, and then hash browns and toast. My boyfriend and I visited this place for the first time a few weeks ago. We decided on this place because of all of the good reviews and the one dollar sign, hoping it's be some cheap good breakfast. First of all, I believe that the price range was way off. The prices were higher than other places like IHOP or dennys. We decided to try to fried zucchini because a lot of reviews were raving about it. An order of the fried zucchini was about 10 dollars and there was nothing special about it. It was just zucchini in batter. It didnt have any flavor and it felt like i was dipping hot water in ranch. I guess that was a given though. Just didn't taste like anything I'd rave about. It wasn't worth the 10 dollars. I felt like I could have bought a few things of zucchini from Walmart, dipped it in batter and fried it myself for much less. then came the entrees. I had the omlet and my boyfriend had the biscuits and gravy. It was a 3 egg omlet which was a decent size, I guess but for about 10/11 bucks it wasn't comparable to ihops omlets. It was flat, the cheese and ingredients that I chose weren't spread evenly. The cheese was all on one side while the meats were on the other. The omlet came with hashbrowns and toast but even so, I didn't think it was worth the price. My boyfriend said that his biscuits and gravy were cold by the time it came out to us. So they probably made his plate first and let it sit while my omlet was being made. He seemed to enjoy his plate though. But again, for 2 biscuits with gravy and some toast, it wasn't well worth the 10/11 dollars. The only thing good about this place was probably the service. Our waitress was very nice and patient with us. But that was about it. My boyfriend and I were very dissatisfied with our experience there but it was worth a try. We just wouldn't come back. The bill came out to be ~35 dollars and with that amount I think we would have enjoyed our breakfast at ihop. I'm all for giving places a second chance but I don't think you can really do much about breakfast foods. read more

I will not be back! We tried the breakfast menu on Saturday morning. After waiting 40 minutes for a meal that was lukewarm to cold (including the eggs) the waitress offered to rewarm the meal. Really, rewarm a meal it took 40 minutes to get in the first place? She really seemed to care less about our dining experience. Like I said they lost out on any future business from me. read more
