If you go just for coffee they will charge you for refills. This is an absurd practice and very poor business. Will NEVER go there again. The person at the counter was very rude as well. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. As long as I have lived, I have never been to a restaurant with such a rude and dismissive manager. It is rare for me to make a review unless the service is absolutely phenomenal or the service/food is just that bad to the point I feel people need a heads up. Upon entering this establishment around 11a they weren't overly busy. We were warmly greeted by a couple of young ladies and quickly set outside per my request, as I had my dog. I care for a lady who has dementia, is 85, and one of the many things we do is try new restaurants. Today we drove about an hour from where we live. I ordered my lady a very berry waffle. Per the menu it says strawberries and blueberries, however I asked for bananas instead of the blueberries. Then I proceed to order the Iron Man Scrambler for myself. I try to intentionally eat healthy so I normally make substitutions at all the restaurants I eat at, and it is rare that I get any pushback. This is how is says it comes on the menu: Egg whites, baby spinach, tomatoes, onions, and mushrooms. Served with your choice of fresh fruit or sliced avocados and your choice of toast. I asked to substitute the tomatoes for fresh jalapenos and the mushrooms for bell peppers. I chose the sliced avocados. As you see, it's supposed to come with your choice of toast. I chose gluten free toast. I originally asked if I could do a side of their gluten-free oatmeal i stead of the toast and was told they couldn't do that and so I opted not to go that route as I didn't want to pay the full price of a bowl. Several minutes later, she came back out and reconfirmed my order. Upon getting our food, my lady's order was right. The waitress gave me somebody else's meal before catching her mistake, took it back, and brought mine out. I couldn't believe the minimal portion size for the price. I wouldn't say there was anything bad about our food. My lady's waffles seemed to have been a little overdone. Normally she eats it all. Today she didn't, which says a little something about the waffle as those are her favorite. This is where it all went south! I received my ticket and was charged almost $2/ea. for the substitution of jalapeno and bell peppers, even though it was an even ingredient swap, and I do this everywhere I go if I'm out for breakfast at noon charge. I would have understood if it was for extra avocado or something. Then then I was charged $3.25 for the toast that is supposed to come with the meal. I mentioned it to the waitress, and she said, "Oh, I'm sorry, we can't make substitutions without charging." I then said, "Well you should have mentioned this up front." She apologized again and I proceeded and said, "And I thought the toast came with the meal." She just kind of had this look on her face, so I said, "I need to speak to the manager, this is unacceptable." When the manager comes out, an asian lady, she gets freaked out by my dog and says, I need to come inside if I wanna talk to her. So I go inside, she says, "How can I help you?" I proceed to tell her that I go to 1 or 2 restaurants a day making substitutions to menus and have never been charged for basic ingredients. She very dismissedly said, "We don't do that." I then proceed to tell her that I was also charged for the toast which was supposed to come with the meal and again very dissmissedly with more rudeness she says, "That's our charge." I told her, she was not very good at listening to the concerns of her customers, I would never be back, and that I was going to make an unfavorable review, to which her response was, "Okay, that's fine!!! Never, even an I'm sorry, which I'm glad she didn't say that, because a lot of people say it and don't mean it. I guess that's the one thing I can give her; she was honest. Greedy, rude, expensive and the WORST customer service by a restaurant manager I have ever experienced. And how unfortunate for her employees that have to work under her. They definitely need to be trained better. I don't fault my waitress, because she was fairly new & fairly young. However, I did speak to her and tell her that in life, you need to stand up for what's right, that I wasn't faulting her, and that I hope this was a learning lesson that she tells her customers that they're going to be charged extra for things in advance. read more

As soon as I entered, an employee was behind the hostess stand ready to sit me. The place felt more lively again. Since my visit last year, the restaurant's frugality was not as harsh. Decided to stop In and grab breakfast before church. To my surprise this place is fire. The service was amazing. Entire staff from front to back of house. I Really like that this is not a chain restaurant. It seems like chains dominate breakfast. The restaurant is quite small and has a nice feel about it. Also seems like all of the servers are high school kids, or perhaps early college, and they are trying so very hard to please, which I respect. Service was fast. For the price, however, I thought the food was just average. My wife had the Parisian, which is two slices of French toast, two eggs any style, two strips of bacon or two sausage patties. Nothing special here, and the Ewing' toast looked kind of like something from the freezer case at Kroger. I had the Sante Fe Skillet, which is chorizo sausage, jalapeño peppers, onions, tomatoes and topped with fresh avocado. One of the smaller skillet meals I have had, and not really in a skillet at all. The eggs were a bit overdone and as you can see the "topped with fresh avocado" was very very sad. If you're looking for breakfast served at actual breakfast hours for working people (starting at 6:30am), this will do! We drove past probably half a dozen "breakfast" restaurants that open at 8 (??) to get here. Maybe only retired or non-working people are allowed to eat breakfast outside the home! :) Anyway, in an early-morning pinch, I recommend this place. But admittedly I can't recommend it for much more. The food is decent. We had migas and a "skillet" at the table. The migas (as someone who seeks out migas at breakfast places) was not migas. It was a small pile of scrambled eggs with cheese and pico, and a few small colored tortilla strips stirred in. It was served with store bought flour tortillas, and hashbrowns with quite a bit of grease on the plate under it all. For the price, unfortunately it's not worth it (portions were small, greasy/watery). The skillet wasn't served in a skillet... it was served in a ceramic plate with a handle, resembling a skillet, which means you don't get the good crispy-ness of the potatoes and such at the bottom of the hot skillet, you just get skillet foods served on a fancy dish that cools the food down and removes all "skillet" aesthetic and most of the flavor potential. Again, portions fairly small for the price. They don't have oat milk - so no latte for me. Just black coffee (hot) and a cold brew (not made in-house, poured from a can into a special skinny-tall glass for presentation). Overall, again, ok in a pinch. Service was good and friendly, but prices were high for the portions/quality. Not sure that I'd come back unless an early morning breakfast need hit again. read more

there are several times in the past. It hasn't been go to actually I don't think I'm stepping put in it in the past two years and today I remember why. Compared to other breakfast places the courses are small. My omelette was overcooked and my hash brown. But that wasn't the worst thing. I asked for it to go cup so I could pour my coffee in it. I was told by the server it would be another $.99. Which shocked me. We just spent almost $60 on breakfast. I told her that would be fine. She arrived back with a 6 ounce cup. Similar to a pup cup that you would get from Starbucks. I understand that Mortgage margins can be tight in the restaurant business. But charging $.99 for a five cent cup and eight cents worth of coffee is ridiculous. My past experience here I found myself in a confrontation with the owner. And today I remembered why I hadn't been in there in over two years. I would avoid this place. Our server was very kind and inviting. She was great. The problem is that' the portions are minuscule for the price we paid. I substituted the Ham for bacon on my skillet. There was maybe 10 bacon bits sprinkled on top. I was charged $4 for a substitute. I expressed that there was an error because I had a substitute NOT an add on as charged and the owner (presumably) stated that is just the way it works. That being said, they should state that it's an up charge for modifying food in the MENU. We will not return. If the quality and portions matched the bill, maybe. More so - it just appears that the owners is not concerned with customer service or the overall satisfaction of the experience dining with them. It just feels very greedy & "you get what you get and you won't get upset". I also saw the owner address one of the hostess in a very demeaning ways. I left feeling bad for our server. We have been coming here for years - not sure what has changed (ownership? Manager?) but it's been a steady decline. What might be considered typical substitutions on plates (i.e. jalapeños instead of green peppers or toast instead of tortillas) are all up-charged separately. Went for a late breakfast (around 10:30). I was afraid there would be a wait, and with my fiancé being diabetic,I had concerns. We had apparently just missed the rush so we were seated immediately. I went in with the plan to order the Avocado Benedict, but when we entered the restaurant, we were overwhelmed with the wonderful scent of syrup. Thus, my plans changed. I ordered the chicken fried steak breakfast. Soft scrambled eggs - perfect. Chicken fried steak - perfect. Gravy - perfect. Hash browns - not only perfect, but was asked if I wanted them crispy. I did not, and had never been asked that before, but was appreciative of the question. My stepfather only wants hash browns if they are crispy, so he would have been happy too. I don't like to have to post poor reviews for businesses. However, this one is well-deserved and was earned. We will never return to this breakfast café again. The waitress came over to ask how everything was. She was very sweet. We let her know everything was fine, except that the portion of corned beef hash was so small, there must have been some sort of mistake. (You literally could gather up the minuscule amount into one bite.) It really wasn't a big deal nor did we make a big stink whatsoever. We were just being honest with the server since she asked. The owner/manager came over shortly thereafter. She did not introduce herself. She immediately accused us of complaining. It was probably one of the most bizarre experiences in a restaurant we have had. (I might add that we eat out a lot. We dine in restaurants nearly daily.) The issue itself (if you want to call it that), was not a big deal to us. However, the owner's approach and the way this was handled, was miserably executed. I don't even have the energy to write out the rest of the detail of what followed. All I will say, is that, it was appalling, and these people have no business running a restaurant. She made us feel extremely uncomfortable and unwelcome. I'm not sure we have ever had a manager, no less the owner handle a situation this poorly. It was not even really a big deal to begin with. We get together for meals with the family. The 2 daughters families with 2 grandkids each and my wife and I The Birthday person gets to pick the place. 2 of the family likes a morning gathering at the Golden Egg. This week it was Pancakes, gravy on omelet, a veggie omelet, chicken and waffles, and Eggs Benedict and a side of Grits. Everyone liked their meal, and it was warm and ready to eat. I asked if I could substitute a biscuit and gravy instead of pancakes and they gave me two halves of a biscuit and up charged me $7.00 just for the substitution. The Asian lady manager tried to argue with me when I told her that wasn't right and she was terrible about it and the the food was tiny portions and it looked like the steak was microwaved pieces of burnt beef. This was a small hole in the wall place me and my friends found for brunch. I would say, for a prime time brunch hour, it was not busy. We were seated pretty quickly without much wait time. Atmosphere: The place as a whole was pretty small, which was nice and cozy. I am still getting adjusted to staff not wearing masks, as some wore it and others did not. The staff was friendly and definitely helpful in assisting on the menu on what their preferences were. There was a lot of staff members there, just standing around. When paying for our tab, at least 4 people were just standing there to take our payment. Food: - Biscuit and Gravy Omelet (6.5/10): This was what this spot is known for. And I will say, I was quite impressed. This is an omelets, that is stuffed with butter milk biscuit and cheese. And then the sausage gravy is poured on top of it. The biscuit was the perfect texture and so soft!! However, where this dish lacked was the flavor. I personally wished, there was some type of meat with this. But the sausage gravy needed some more flavor and seasoning. I honestly could not distinguish the sausage gravy between regular gravy. I used the Golden Egg Cafe hot sauce, which was nice and smokey and had a good kick to it. The sourdough toast was toasted well with a good buttery flavor to it! The wheat toast, was your regular toast. Nothing special to it. Go with sourdough for sure! - Sweet potato fries (3/10): I was not a fan of the sweet potato fries. It tasted very bland to me. There was no seasoning and the potatoes tasted as if it was old. I would save your money if you plan on ordering this. Would I come back? Possibly not unless I was in the area and there was no where else to go. But it is still worth checking out and trying some of their other options. read more

We mention to the host that we have yet to be greeted and she apologized - at 15 minutes without ever being greeted we leave. This little out of the way restaurant in Lantana was a great find. It was the first beautiful day in a long while, so we took advantage of their covered patio. The staff was very friendly. We both got panini sandwiches and sides. The sandwiches were very good with lots of flavor. My only complaint would be the portions felt small. The server brought food to my table that was cold and stiff. It clearly has been out awhile. I tasted it and it was terrible. I politely asked if they could take it back and If I could order something else instead. When I went to pay for my food, the manager refused to remove the item off my bill saying I shouldn't have ordered it and you can't order things "just to taste". So she charged me for food I didn't even eat They were wrong for not acknowledging their mistake and FORCING me to pay for something I didn't eat. If that is a store policy they should've informed me at the time that I would still be charged. They are selfish and greedy and allowed me to charge more food. I would encourage everyone not to support any business that doesn't operate in integrity. It's obvious all they care about it is money and their bottom line as oppose to the customers satisfaction. We wanted to try something new for breakfast and since we were in the area thought of giving the golden egg a try. It was busy Saturday but we got seated within 10-15 mins. The host greeted us promptly and took down my name. It seemed as though the host knew a lot of his customers. The customer service was excellent from the host to the wait staff all were professional. I ordered the Santa Fe skillet and my wife ordered her usual chicken and waffle. The skillet looked good, I was not pleased with the taste. It seemed bland and not balanced. There was too much hash brown and the chorizo didn't have flavor. The Santa Fe came with a side of pancake, which I thought was disappointing. It was tough to chew and probably one of the worst pancakes I've had. On the other hand my wife said the chicken and waffle was probably one of the best she's had. According to her the chicken was breaded correctly had good flavor and was crisp. The syrup seemed of low quality, and was very runny. Although I was not impressed with the Santa Fe, I saw several dishes/sandwiches being served around our table that looked delicious. This hidden gem is one of the best breakfast spots we've dined at in North Texas. The staff is always on point offering fast and friendly service. In addition, the food is delicious .... the chef whips the eggs to get them really fluffy - no flat runny eggs served here! Our kids love the Mickey Mouse pancakes. The omelets are huge with fresh ingredients. If you are looking for a place to eat breakfast indoor or outdoor look no further. Our only suggestion would be to update their menus. For example, it says kids drinks are included with meals but they aren't. Update the older laminated menus. :) we will be back! read more
