The menu and the location went through a major reboot within the last year and the whole place is much more inviting... I think their kitchen got faster too. Maybe there was an update behind the scenes.

***NOW RE-OPENED*** Gold Ranch Casino has reopened the Sierra cafe after a complete remodel. They have also moved the coffee bar from the rear of the casino into the Sierra Cafe. They've added a counter for convenience with single diners and 3 large televisions showing different sport events. It's an all new menu, and breakfast is now served all day. The service provided by the over the top friendly staff and the food is better than ever. Come back to Gold Ranch for an excellent experience.

This was highly recommended by family we were traveling through the area with. Apparently it used to be the go to cheap breakfast spot. We got in, got comped some food credit after a little gambling, just to kill some time and wait for the roads to clear. Elvia our server was very nice, efficient and accommodating. Biscuit and gravy were good, not overtly salty or flour -full. My cousin had the double duces and all the food was good, pancakes were fluffy and for 13$ was a great deal. Her husband ordered a chicken fried steak breakfast. I loved the plating, it looked delicious, unfortunately, he said the chicken fried steak was over cooked and hard so a 20$ let down. My husband ordered the hangover burger medium with well done hash browns. A decent size burger that looked fresh, not frozen, again way over cooked like a charcoal patty. He showed it to Elvia and she was very apologetic about taking it back. She brought the second plate and it was grayish and did not looked cooked in my opinion. My husband bite into it and it was raw. Needless to say he didn't eat. I gave 3 stars for the Elvia and though the burger was inedible the cook did make the entire plate with fresh food rather then pulling the char patty and replacing it with all the same cold food on the plate.This place needs some updating, tables, carpet, paint could really spruce it up. According to Margery or Margaret the cashier it's closing soon for a remodel. I'm hoping that when we come through again we can give it another try. There aren't many food options near here and if you do a little gambling you get points and comps but I would stick to the classic breakfast for the best food and value.

We haven't been to this restaurant in a loooong time, but decided to stop in because we were buying a lottery ticket next door. Apparently, Sierra Cafe has several locations in the Reno area.. The chocolate peanut butter cake is quite good, the meatball soup was nice and the prime rib sandwich was good but a little dry. Our server, didn't catch his name, was very friendly and fast. I might suggest having a little guacamole on hand to compliment their Mexican dishes? The steak quesadilla would have been delicious if only for some guacamole.

Had an errand to run at Donner Lake and popped in for breakfast. The nice thing about eating at this restaurant is that there is no wait on a Saturday morning. In the middle of Gold Ranch Casino, lots of traffic on the California side to get lotto tickets. The casino was not that crowded as was the cafe. This has a coffee shop feel in a casino. The wait staff was very friendly. My meal was average as the hamburger had no flavor and I had to drown it in salt. Mushroom and onion gravy was ok. Egg over medium on top. Had a taste of the bloody mary and was not too crazy for the mix. The breakfast was filling for the work we had ahead of us.

Time for an update..... five years later. We have been coming here for decades. A ritual stop off. Not as good as it used to be based on my last 4 trips this past year. We liked it because the prices were really good. Its diner food that isn't high quality, think Dennys but when it was inexpensive, it was just fine. Now a lunch for two ends up costing us $40+ after tip that I think I should have just went to Port of Subs inside the gas station. Ordered the nachos because it said with homemade salsa. It was probably the grossest nachos I ever had! The meat looked 5 days old and crispy. The salsa was a Wtf is that! it looked like salad dressing and didn't taste good either. Cheese was lumpy. Bleh, I could barely eat it. They still have their brick oven pizza on the menu so I would recommend that as it is fresh and made to order. Service is friendly although limited. What I mean is that there is usually no more than 2 people on staff that I am surprised that they don't have a sign that says, "closed due to staffing issues" like the coffee shop inside there does. For that reason, I like supporting the small business and will probably continue to stop but it won't be a MUST do like years past.

If you're on your way to or from Reno, NV over i80, this is a must stop if you're hungry. There are often discounts offered if you use your players card, the staff is friendly, service is prompt, portions are large (shareable). It's a much better option than fast food or a sub way sandwich in my opinion. We ordered the Bull Rider- eggs, meats, biscuits and gravy, hash browns or home fries and a side of pancakes (additional cost). Everything was great! We will definitely be back!

I forgot the name of my dish but it was amazing. There was so much food. The bacon was thick and tasted good. The sausage also had a good taste. I got a side of hollandaise sausage it was also really good. Our server was really nice and attentive. The only this that lacked flavor was the coffee. Other than that the food was great and the portions are nice for the price. I definitely would go back. The inside is a nice old school diner vibe to it. It feels nice.

We were quite hungry coming home to Reno from Sacramento area so we stopped in for dinner. Seniors from Reno used to rave about the great specials this place offered and they used to go often even if it was far out at the California border. It is quite a drive for anyone to head out here to eat or play in their casino. Therefore, they should have food deals and a nice clean establishment. I guess they expect the travelers passing by to play their slots and eat their food so that they don't need the locals. I was shocked that the restaurant on a Thursday evening was almost vacant with one table with diners. We were hungry and it was 6pm so we decided to stay and try it. I was shocked at the prices for a cafe. It was as costly as the really nice restaurants in Reno. The first problem was the fact that the server took 15 mins before taking our order. I noticed they were chatting in a booth when I came in. We decided to get a large pizza and salads. The ONLY reason I am giving this place a 3 star review is that the pizza was pretty good. Service was slow, the interior is not as clean and nice as I expect and I am sure some of the smoke from the casino gets in so I was glad we were in the back. But you walk through the casino if you park in back. The smoke was heavy. Not sure I would ever drive from South Reno to eat or play slots here. I think they are losing the locals.

The lady at the front wasn't too friendly when I walked in. I asked if we just seat ourselves and she had an attitude saying "No, there is a sign saying you need to wait to be seated" I even walked to the opening and didn't see a sign but didn't feel like arguing. Also when I left this same lady was kind of snooty when I paid and I waited for my receipt and didn't get one, and figured screw it, its not worth it. The Waitress I had was friendly and fast. She came and got our drink order then came back for our food order. My daughter got the mini pizza and said that she didn't like it very much. She only ate 1/4 of it. I had the philly steak sandwich with jack cheese instead of swiss. It was a pretty good sandwich. It was real meat versus how a lot of places use those nasty steak-ums. This place also had a little casino and port-of-subs in the same building. read more

This restaurant is inside the gold ranch casino. Sign up for their players card to receive any specials they have. We ordered the Verdi omelette has Linguisa and chicken fried steak and eggs. They were both great meals would be back again. read more

The service was great and the food was served hot and fast. Everything tasted fresh and homemade. We really like to eat at a local place that is famous for their ham steak. Sierra Cafe has many of the same selections at a lower price. Even the rye toast was delicious. We do recommend and will be back again next time we go for lottery tickets... read more

Like a Denny's, except grittier and with fewer options. Being linked to the casino, the stale smoke air permeates everything, and all surfaces have that feeling that they are never quite clean. The ribs were awful, tough and exceedingly bland. I barely touched them, and that is saying a lot. The New York strip was OK, and easily the most palatable item we ordered. The cole slaw came out room temperature and I just prayed I would not get food poisoning. The carrots ("seasonal vegetables") were boiled/steamed baby-cut carrots without seasoning. My 3-year-old kid who was eating the romaine lettuce piece that garnished her chicken fingers spat out the carrots. Another saving grace was that the kids meal, chicken fingers and tatar (sic) tots, was huge! I would NOT go back for any meal there. Service was average. read more

Hang on to your wallet. This place is way overpriced for breakfast. I ordered a side of Hollandaise with my omelet and was charged $6 extra dollars? For real? Service was terrible as we had to ask three times for water. Is there really a shortage of breakfast restaurants in Reno? Guess so since this place seems pretty busy. read more

This is a solid restaurant with many items that are 5 stars, some 4 stars, and others 3 stars. 5 Star items (need a free club card for $) - Clam Chowder 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, 2 Bacon or Sausage ($2.99) AYCE Spaghetti and Meatballs ($4.99) Beer Battered Onion Rings 4 Star items - NY Steak Dinner (M, W, Sa - Specials - $) Fish and Chips (Friday Special - $) 3 Star items- Chili Cheese Burger (Please note burger was overcooked today - so might be higher) Prime Rib (Specials vary - also was overcooked when I got, so might be higher when served at proper temp - $) Service is solid, sometimes it take a minute for waitresses to hit the floor, but once your order, food comes out in an expected time frame. Please not when I rate a place, it's 5 stars based on taste, flavor, and value, so anywhere else my 5 stars might be 4, but when it's a solid deal, you gotta bump it up, especially when it hits the spots, and you crave the food again. Also the grill there is super hot and the pancakes get this perfect sear on them, I can't explain it, but it feels like the right way to cook a pancake, and it seems like most pancakes are not cooked right, when you have them cooked this way. Many of the items are made in house, like the meatballs, onion rings, and the clam chowder; make sure and find out what items are excellent from the servers! I am still impressed and look forward to ordering my 5 star items again! They have different specials, so call if you want to know a daily, weekly or monthly. Last recommendation I recommend under temping (burgers, steaks, prime rib) your food, as they tend to overcook, but if you are not happy tell the server, I would have gotten my food fixed if I wasn't on a lunch hour. read more

Sierra Cafe located in the Gold ranch Casino near Verdi. Had a hard time deciding between 4 and 5 Stars. Been here a few times already and the food has always been good. The first time we tried this place, we came for the all you can eat Spaghetti and Meatballs special which was really good and the meatballs werepretty big. Also tried some of their other menu items including thecoconut shrimp basket special which was good too and they give about a dozen pieces of good size coconut shrimp which we were not expecting. The waiters, waitresses, and busboys here are all very friendly even after having to deal with my crazy family. Make sure to sign up for the Players Card to take advantage of their specials. I'm not comparing this to any 5 Star restaurants main dishes but rating this place for what it is. A little truck stop cafe off the Highway with good food and friendly workers. read more

The five stars is based what is reasonable expect for this kind of cafe, it is a cut above. Friendly service, good food at good prices. My husband had the fish and chips. A large serving with big chunks of fish inside and a generous sized tarter sauce. I had the turkey burger and it was one of best I have ever had! A big juicy burger with fresh toppings. For small appetites it is enough to share. read more

The food here was horrible, I tried the Prime rib special, the vegetable was can peas, prime rib full of fat and the potato burnt on the bottom and all the food tasted like it sat under a radiant warmer for a while. Food is better at McDonalds and cheaper read more

I got a steak that was ordered medium. One side of my steak was rare, the middle was medium and the other side was well done. The cheap steak knife could barely cut. Salad was iceberg lettuce with tomatoes - kinda disappointing... it is clean, the service was good and prices are low - but the main reason for coming here is the food which is not worth it read more

This café sits inside the small casino and gas station. We always make it a point to stop here on our way out of Reno. For one thing, the fish and chips. Don't get me wrong all the food is great, but this is some of the best fish I have ever had. So soft and flaky on the inside and super crispy and crunchy on the outside. Not to mention you get 4 huge pieces. This time I also ordered the Cajun chicken sandwich. A nice piece of spicy seasoned breast with fresh toppings on the side. We have always had friendly service and the prices are fair. I believe they also have specials if you get a players card for the casino. Love our tradition of stopping here for lunch on the way out of town. read more

Had the steak sandwich for$10.99 and it was great. Cooked medium rare as requested. Since I'm not a fan of the bottled ranch, I added some Tabasco to it to use asa dipping sauce for my fries. Much better. read more

Service was outstanding! Our server served me drink refills before my ice cubes hit the bottom of my glass. Food was served very quickly. Clam chowder was average as was the fish and chips. Fish was a bit tough but breading was good. Fries were great. If you don't mind the smoke from the casino (restaurant is smoke free) the food is good and the prices are great! Service and price is what pushed this to four stars. read more

The most worst place ever we were sat down and watch three other tables sit after us and then receive service before us. Here is the only difference is am black everyone who received service was white. Unless you support this kind of thing never eat there. read more

Let me just say I do not recommend the prime rib dip! I can imagine that it would have been delicious if the meat was freshly cut, not old and reheated meat on the sandwich like it was served to me. The sandwich was huge but tasted absolutely disgusting. The waitress was nice enough to exchange it for a BLT which came out very fast as I was on a time limit. The establishment was very busy. My daughter enjoyed the bacon and egg breakfast. read more

Well we are eating here for the first time. So far we have sat down. The fixtures are extremely dusty. Every waitress I have see has touched her face, hair etc. the girl who took our drink order has wiped her nose numerous times. When she isn't sniffing and wiping her nose she is sitting at a table eating ice cream and texting. This place is very out dated. The potatoes are under cooked but mushy? the scramble is like mush. I would not recommend eating here at all. read more

Food is typical truck stop/casino food. The website says they have a daily $6.99 special. But, waitress says they "don't do that any more". They did have prime rib for $8.99 that was good for the price. My dining companion said the chicken fried steak was great. read more

It's fine. We live nearby, so we eat here fairly often. It was the best place in town for years, and probably still is for breakfast. A couple of new restaurants in "downtown" Verdi challenge it for lunch and dinner, though. read more

It's filled with cigarette smell inside the casino, a little better in the coffee shop and gas station convenient store. I didn't smell anything at jack in the box. I think coffee shop only opens weekends. We stopped by during the weekday, it was closed. But you can still hangout there. They also provide usb charging outlets.

The sugar free vanilla latte is was meh, got the job done. I don't expect spectacular when I order that drink. The Black Forest has some real potential if ordered with regular milk and hot. We also ordered a danish which was warmed up and delicious. The staff were super friendly. I would likely say it took a touch bit too long but it was nice to rest our legs. We sat outside. There is a bike rack. Would I come back again, yes. Would I go out of my way to stop by, hmm probs not.

The gifts/books/clothing is all overpriced, and there isn't really much to choose from that makes me think, hmm, I want to remember this place when I go home! The food is okay. My husband enjoyed his bagel, and my chicken sandwich tasted dry. The employees tried to bring us the wrong order, and there was confusion about what we ordered (good thing I printed out my receipt). I'm disappointed because this was my best friend's dad's favorite place, and I wanted to share this tribute with her as she recalled her recently deceased father. Anyway, wouldn't recommend to anyone, even if you're passing through Truckee.

All the food is outstanding and high quality and the staff is super friendly! We chatted a bit with the owner who clearly pours his heart into making every visit a special experience for every guest and that really comes across! It's also a local spot - so had a really relaxed cool vibe. Definitely get the chocolate croissant! Would give 10 stars if I could!

Also had a breakfast sandwich option as well. I personally wasn't a fan of the breakfast burrito but my boyfriend really enjoyed his. The rice and beans were 90% of the burrito with very tiny bits of chorizo here and there so it just didn't feel like breakfast to me and I didn't finish mine. Everyone has different tastes though so if you enjoy bean and rice burritos I'm sure you would like this!

Parking was easy in the little shopping center, and this location is very cute and the artwork/decor (as in all Coffeebars) is charming, stylish, and full of character. Despite the weather outside, everything on the interior was spacious, bright, and comfortable, even with the door open. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the array of savory and sweet baked goods in the case looked appetizing and interesting. I ordered a lemonade and they offered to top it with matcha...never had that before, but it was delicious. This Coffeebar is conveniently located near the freeway, so an excellent stop without adding much drive time. Will definitely be back on future trips.

The staff were attentive to our needs and the food worth going back for. I was impressed!

From the moment we walked through the door, we were treated as if we were inconveniencing them by asking for a table. We were totally agreeable and ok with a table or the bar. After about 10 minutes, we were directed to the bar where there was one seat for two of us and the gal with the green shirt that was from somewhere in South Carolina promised to get us another stool. We went to where we were shown to go. Another couple at the bar mentioned someone had taken the stool that belonged where we were. We ordered two drinks, Jameson on the rocks and a Grey Goose or Tito's Lemondrop. $14 for the lemondrop that couldn't have had a shot of vodka in it. I'm not sure it had any in it because it tasted like lemon juice and Cointreau. The single shot of Jameson on the rocks was $12.25. There were 3 local guys who appeared to be finishing up on the other side of the couple next to us that were standing and leaning on empty stools. I asked them if we could have one of the stools and one of the guys jokingly told me not to yell at him. We laughed and he said he was leaving anyway, but the bartender told him not to give us the stool. The bartender brought us our drinks and we patiently waited for a stool, but decided if we finished our drinks and hadn't received menus or a stool that we'd find a different spot. The food smelled good and the few people eating seemed to be enjoying it. After a bit longer we were asked if we wanted to move to a table when one came open. We should have said yes, but we were trying to be easy and agreeable as they seemed overwhelmed, even though there were two empty dirty tables and the three spots at the bar where the local guys were bullshitting and leaning on the back of the empty stools, so we said we would stay at the bar. We still had not been offered menus or the 2nd stool we were told was coming. After another short while, a couple at the end of the bar left and the bartender asked us if we wanted to move into those spots. We moved and ordered another Jameson on the rocks. We found a menu that another patron had left and decided we would order if asked before we finished our cocktails. The bartender gave us the 2nd Jameson on the rocks, but never asked us if we wanted to order even though she knew we came for dinner. We finished our drinks and asked the lady in the green shirt with South Carolina on it if we could have our bill because we had already been there more than 50 minutes while feeling like we may have never been asked what we wanted to eat. We finally got our bill of $38.50 for a terrible lemondrop and two shots of Jameson on the rocks. We left hangry and irritated that we never got to taste the food we were smelling. I've heard good things and had a nice Mother's Day there last year, but I won't go back unless I'm with a recognized local as they seemed to be the only patrons receiving food. Obviously, by the length of this review, that I'm very disappointed and hope the staff will take into account how they made good paying patrons feel. I wouldn't recommend wasting your time. If management cares enough to check the receipts, we were there 4/17/26 and left between 6:30 and 7pm.
