We decided to give them another try. Management should be commended. Their staff. was amazing did not miss a beat. Absolutely positively fantastic. We had breakfast Sunday morning. Steak and eggs. I would never order that again. Potatoes and bread are excellent. The eggs were gross and the steak love a good flat iron this was not good quality. It was cooked fine, it was the ingredients. I couldn't decide between a 3 or a 4 for this place - but I'll give it a 4 because our waitress, Adrianna, was really nice and was able to handle a very large bday group. The food was ok...I'm glad they have a vegan section now. I got the vegan eggs benedict (ok...I don't know how else I can describe it) and the meatless tacos (those were very good). I've gotta say, I was so happy with the meals we ordered! I am a sucker for my favorite, bison huevos rancheros but opted for steak with pesto hollandaise, frites and some perfectly cooked garlic spinach. Husband had the cod with potatoes and he loved it. Silver Diner has come a long ways! I'm glad there are healthier options. We ordered one app: the spinach artichoke dip and one pickle chicken sandwich platter that we wanted to try. My sister and I came to get dinner here before another event and we were seated as soon as we arrived. Our waiter was very attentive to our requests and the food came out promptly. I ordered the Shrimp Scampi which was good; the only downside was that the dish was prepared with a lot of oil. (There was a significant amount of oil left on my plate after I finished eating.) My sister seemed to like her Triple-Pickled Chicken Burger. I did appreciate how quickly we were able to get in and out because we were running low on time near the end. The food selection was great and the prices were fair for the quality of food and location. The meals were unique with very robust flavors. I liked the interior and stylistic choices of the business. The service there was a bit frustrating. First, the drink I was provided was incorrect, which was not initially upsetting since I was not clear enough at what I wanted, and the server was apologetic. Next, my tables food came out at different times over a 15 minute span. Afterwards, our food was all delivered before I got a drink. It took a manager coming over and asking if everything was alright before I could get my simple coffee and water. First time dining in Silver Diner and the food was absolutely delicious! My boyfriend and I are pretty good eaters and we were super hungry. We ordered a lot to satisfy our belly, but silver diner is extremely generous on their portions. We had to box up food home for another meal. The quesadilla and our main entrees were very juicy and had lots of flavor~ I am pretty sure this was the best quesadilla we ever had. Would highly recommend to try! We both got drinks of our own and the homemade hibiscus lemonade was the pricing isn't bad and plus FREE REFILLS! Very good. Our server was very nice! He recommended various dishes to suit our tastes and he frequently checked on us to see how we were doing. We had a wonderful breakfast at the Silver Diner in Rio. We we greeted promptly and made clear that we were welcome. Our server, Desiree was new, but very professional and courteous. She paid careful attention to our order and made sure that everything was done to our specifications. Desiree is a tribute to the smart hiring and training process and is destined to move up to a management position due to her devotion to customer service. The standard of this location is extremely low. Extremely slow speed of service! All at once I ordered, 2 kids meals which took 25 mins and 2 milkshakes which took an additional 25 mins with no apology. As a mother dining with small children, I would have appreciated my server to have a sense of urgency. My total dine in time was 1.5 hours. Large gaps between table touches, waited 20 additional minutes (oh how I wish I was joking) for the check to be printed out with no acknowledgment or discount. As someone who has been serving for the last decade, prioritizing families with small children is something you learn on day 1. When I spoke to the manager, there was again, no apology, only an explanation that his lack of urgency was to blame for time spent there unnecessarily. It had the consistency of shoe leather. I would have preferred traditional pita, soft and warm, to spread the hummus on. I've been to the Rockville location a few times but this was my first time to the (fairly) new Gaithersburg location. I would say it's overall 3.5 stars, so rounding up here. The restaurant itself looks nicer than the Rockville one, mostly because it's new where the other location is slightly run down looking. There's a cute bar and nice outdoor area for the warm weather! We came around 10:45 am on the Monday before Christmas. It was busy but still had a lot of open seats. The 4 of us were seated in one of the smaller booths, which is very cozy for 4 people - it would probably be better for 2 or 3. Really small complaint, but there are no hooks for jackets on the outside of the booth so we were a little cramped with our jackets on the seat as well. Our server was prompt and attentive, checking on us throughout the whole brunch to make sure we didn't need anything - A+ for service! The food is pretty much what you would expect in a diner but with some healthier/fancier options (in my opinion). They offer vegan options, avocado toast, gluten free, etc. I had the steak and cheese omelette and really enjoyed it! It was stuffed with chopped up steak and peppers, and came with home-fries and a biscuit. The portions definitely don't disappoint, which I always appreciate (even if I can only eat half...) Everything was good and satisfying. I can't complain about the food but will say I'm not over the moon about it. Compared to other breakfast options in the area (I won't name them but there aren't many), I think Silver Diner definitely gives you the most bang for your buck. Another addition to the Rio community, I've had past memories of Silver Diner in Rockville so having this closer to the area is a treat. I came by one late Friday evening for a milkshake and my friend and I sat outside by the fire pit. I waited to be greeted for a few minutes then 15 minutes had passed so I called for someone to get the order in. I was confused by the customer service, it was within the first week of their grand opening. Fast forward, I came back with my sisters after a movie and the customer service improved from before. The appetizers and desserts we ordered were decent. The bread pudding was delicious! The churro doughnut sundae was okay. A section of it tasted like onion rings so I'm not sure if the same oil was used for the doughnuts...yikes. I was concerned about the sanitary conditions during the visit, there was a stench as soon as we walked in. They just recently opened so this left me confused once again. They had a vendor table at my gym the other day promoting the business and gave out samples of the Mediterranean salad. I was sold and will be ordering that next time. That means the bacon is fake. And the pieces of almost bacon were small. One thing had "Bacon" in quotes. Is real bacon scary? A diner is suppose to have comfort, Americana food. It is suppose to be filling, evenly priced. Burgers, sandwiches, coffee, breakfast, milkshakes. Amish cage free eggs? Betcha their not. Betcha you doubled the price so that I could feel better about myself. They have a Felxitarian section. I looked it up! Its 'sometimes' vegan. Its like being a Sometimes Virgin. A Sometimes Member of the Crips. Sometimes, I'm hungry. Its a made up word. They used a lot of buzz words. Sustainable. Amish. Lots of avocado and goat cheese. This place is not a diner. Its a health food restaurant that belongs in places where the customers don't understand what money is, how its used or where it comes from. Lawyers on speed dial, call their parents by first names, and have no love of anything with meaning. Two of the hostesses were dancing. The music was that loud. I felt like I had to use my outside voice, but we were inside. Not a lot of kids. Most people were either old, or had Daddy's credit card. What happened to bacon, eggs, corn beef hash, pancakes? A meal for four should not cost me $65. I'm surprised if I missed the word 'infused' in between all the twitter words on the menu. The food was either flavorful, weird or bland. The staff was friendly. My waiter appeared new, was pleasant, and took his job seriously. This is not a diner. So, not going back. A complete disappointment. read more

Prices are "okay" - though a bit pricey for "diner" food. Still - we enjoyed burgers and fries, sandwiches and salads, and other nifty options and entries. Non were bad. All were good. Some were really enjoyable. In the restaurant - service is timely and meals are generally hot and tasty. Pandemic (Covid-19) version of food - pick up is okay (aka better than delivery) and Uber Eats delivery is "adequate" and appreciated. Orders fulfilled properly - but really - diner food needs to be served and eaten hot and just after cooking - or it's just not so nifty or tasty. All in all - bellies are full despite any shortcomings. So no complaints. And a big five in gratitude to these food folks who choose to continue serving the public even as we battle a scary pandemic. read more

Our son's food came immediately but ours still not here 1/2 hour later. Servers are rushed and forgetting to place orders. Edit: flagged manager and she said she would check. She came back and said the order was never placed. Waitress came back and apologized for never placing order and said the meal was comped. Added coupons for 3 entrees next time. When coworkers asked me to join them for lunch I was in, but then they said they were going here, so I suggested several other "better" options because the diner, while fine, was not near the top of this foodie's list. Well, after each of us showed down on a fantastic lunch, I'm a convert! Seriously, my summer watermelon salad with grilled shrimp is one of the best salads I've had all summer (switched out the pomegranate dressing for the champagne one and so happy I did). The server informed us they just started using a new system for their server ordering but he seemed to be doing fine and we saw no issues. Drinks from the bar were fine. Ordered fish and chips with a corn crab soup cup as a side. Fish was really good as it wasn't all breading like some places serve. Shoestring fries were cold and flavorless and really not the right kind of CHIP to serve.... coleslaw also bland but crab corn soup quite tasty. So this entree gets a C+ maybe B if they get better fries and slaw. Shrimp Quinoa farro entree was the other dish and it was good. B+ for taste. My wife ordered the apple pie as she likes to compare her favorite dessert when dining out. Crust had a pretty good buttery cinnamon taste which was nice but could have been flakier. Apples were crisp with a nice flavor. Presentation was in a bowl and not as a slice so it appeared more like a bowl of pie all falling apart but not sure if that's by design or what. She prefers slice of pie versus something dumped in a bowl BUT it didn't affect flavor obviously. Overall grade....B-...as a few tweaks could improve what we ate. Definitely will return. read more

Came here after a movie to grab a bite to eat. The service was sloooooow. I come to Silver Diner for the malts, because I absolutely love a good black & white malt. I waited and waited for mine, until I had to flag down a different server who went and checked on it. That should not have had to happen. I'm still conflicted about Silver Diner's vision in general. As I mentioned in my review of the Rockville location, I just can't get my husband to be excited about coming to this non-diner diner. We don't have good old greasy-spoon diners anymore, and Silver Diner was one of the few places you could still at least get that nostalgic feel, even if the food was all new-age and fancy. This new location doesn't even really have the diner ambiance. I was surprised they have a full bar here too, so I just feel like this is a different establishment altogether from a "diner." Still, convenient place to stop in and grab a luscious malt, just get comfortable because it might be a while. read more

This review will likely evolve over time, as they settle in. Tonight was their first Saturday dinner service so it was slightly chaotic. The service team still put in a good effort to make it right. The location and the seating options are new to Silver Diner (patio, inside the restaurant, inside the mall.) The patio seating along the Rio lake will always be the most competitive and first-come, first serve. Currently they don't have a mechanism to give a waittime nor any buzzers. The patio has comfortable seating, a bar area, as well as a cozy fire place. The inside looks like a typical Silver Diner. This location has new menu items as well as classics. The seasonal dinner menu had Carolina shrimp as the main feature, as well as a few Bayou items. I do recommend the salmon teriyaki sliders: very juicy and flavorful. SUMMARY: This newly-opened location is still experiencing some growing pains, especially in the kitchen. LONG VERSION: My husband and I visited here a day after this location's official opening (dinner), as well as its first weekend (brunch). DINNER: We ate dinner inside, and were seated at a two-top table in a crowded area of the restaurant: Our server had to awkwardly maneuver in order to avoid running into the other patrons when she came to talk to us. It's the kind of table that people will almost universally ask to avoid, and I wonder why they'd have it since they presumably designed the entire interior when they built the restaurant. But, I digress.... For dinner my husband ordered the pesto burger and I ordered the chicken tenders. PESTO BURGER: The burger was a bit dry: My husband asked for medium but received close to a well done/medium-well which is probably what contributed to the dryness. The flavors were good, and we saw other people with medium burgers so it may just be a consistency issue. The burger comes with sweet-potato fries, which were very good. CHICKEN TENDERS: Came with a side of regular fries which were delicious! They are seasoned, and the seasoning mix is really good. The tenders themselves were a bit lackluster: I was expecting something a bit fancier given the rest of the menu, but they were basically standard bar-fare tenders. They also tasted burnt, which I suspect means they were cooked in oil that hadn't been changed after burning something else as the tenders themselves weren't burnt at all. Not something I'd order again. BRUNCH: We decided to sit outside for brunch a few days later. There was a bit of a wait, and they use OpenTable to text you when your table was ready. The hosts "paged" several parties at once, meaning our server got sat with multiple parties at once - ouch. That being said, I was super-impressed with the quality of the service this time around. Despite being slammed, they were super-attentive. I ordered waffles and my husband ordered an omelette. ISSUE #1: We did, unfortunately, have two issues this go-around: Our food was quite late (over a half-hour), and seemed to be late for everyone on the patio. At one point I counted a dozen tables without any food. The servers were offering salads, soups, and fruit for anyone who was waiting - which was nice of them. ISSUE #2: My husband's plate came out hot, but my food was cold: Not even warm to the touch. The waffles come with a hefty scoop of butter, which was all-but impossible to spread on the waffles given their temperature. I'd also ordered strawberries as an upgrade but had to ask for them again as they weren't initially delivered. The server did offer to have my plate remade, but I was so hungry at that point that I just wanted to eat. Instead, the manager comped my entree (and the strawberries) and apologized. I admit to being skeptical when my health-conscious, vegetarian brother wanted to meet up at a diner. Color me surprised when I opened the menu to find a variety of vegan and vegetarian dishes that sounded tasty and weren't deep-fried or just pasta. If I could, I would give Silver Diner a 3.5, but I would say my experience was closer to a 3 than a 4. I felt that the food was lack luster, and I was left expecting or wanting more. We ordered a variety of dishes including the tofu skewers, kickin short rib burger, local flat iron steak, pancakes, huevos rancheros, and the creekstone black angus meatloaf. During the hour that we were there for, we did not have our waters refilled at all which was a bit disappointing. Some people were still eating, and the waitress had already started asking about the bill which was a bit off putting, I felt that she could have waited until more people were done eating. Overall, I would prefer to dine at other places in Rio that would have better value and service, Silver Diner would not be my first choice but there is also a convenience aspect that it is open until later in the evening whereas other restaurants might be closed. I went during opening weekend for dinner on Sunday with a group (5 people), staff was well organized. Arriving a couple of minutes after Silver Diner opened, there was already people who were lined up to get seated, luckily it was a short wait (probably less than 5 minutes), but it might not be the case depending on the time of day that you go; they do not take reservations as well. Tofu Skewers - Was sort of surprised that it only came with 5 pieces of tofu. Tofu is not an expensive ingredient, I am surprised that the serving size of this appetizer was so small. The tofu could have definitely been fried better so it was more crispy. The Banh Mi slaw that came with it was very little, and not a true banh mi slaw. A real banh mi slaw has both pickled radish and carrots, but this version had only carrots and cucumber?! The curry tasted good, but unfortunately we had a lot of curry leftover since there was only 5 tofu skewers, and the banh mi slaw isn't an item that you would dip in the curry, I would say the curry to tofu ratio is off. Kickin short rib burger - This was $15.99, on the pricer end for a burger but you get a lot. It is cooked medium as default, and has ranch, bbq sauce, fried onions, tomatoes, and the "short ribs" which was pulled beef. It comes with fries as the default side. Flavor is good, but very messy to eat with all of the ingredients, had to use a fork and knife. The burger patty and short ribs meat itself was a little dry. Local Flat Iron Steak - This is supposed to come with something called a "blue cheese butter", but looked like that there was just blue cheese crumbled on top of the steak. I would recommend that the server would double check with patrons if they would want want the blue cheese or not, because there may be some people who don't like it and the photo on the menu looks like a tab of butter instead of the crumbles of blue cheese on top when the dish actually came out. Pancakes - They were okay, you can't really mess up pancakes but prefer pancakes at another local brunch place over Silver Dinner's Angus Meatloaf - This dish was good, meatloaf was juicy and not try and the portion size was good. Huevos Rancheros - The portion size of this seemed a little small compared to other locations, but the flavor of this dish was good. read more

Okay, i have to start out by saying... our server Andrew was AMAZING! He was super patient with us all night and had the best attitude; I loved that he even stayed to answer all the questions my parents had with a smile! Our first time here made for a great night service wise. Some of the servers stopped by with other people's food thinking it was ours but no worries, we turned them away and the food made it to the people it belonged to. Other than that, I would say the food was subpar but the FRIES!!!! The fries were FANTASTIC! There are few fries that I enjoy and Silver Diner's have made my list! Another great addition to the Rio area. I came here for happy hour on a Tuesday evening. Their happy hour is from 3-6:30pm at the bar area and outside bar patio area. Our server was very friendly and prompt thereafter. The happy hour menu as a great selection of drinks, but only a few food items. Two of them which appealed to me were the beyond meatball sliders and the brussels sprouts. The sliders were delicious, but could use some more sauce as they were a bit dry. The brussels sprouts were good as well, the dipping sauce made it and was also used for the sliders. In the end we ordered a chunky monkey milkshake and they were able to swap it to soy based icecream/milk which was great. I am looking forward to trying their breakfast items. read more

Went here late last night with my fiance because we were craving some of those amazing Silver Diner burgers and the Rockville location was far too crowded. We came here and they had plenty of open seating. We were immediately impressed by how clean it was from the booth seats to the table tops, to the menus. However, unlike other silver diners, they don't have a juke box at every table. This definitely didn't bother us, but we just took notice of it. I could tell they are still working out some kinks in the service and the kitchen. Our server, Lorenzo, was very sweet. However, when I ordered a beer, it didn't arrive until we got our dinner (I think because the bartender forgot?). Our Burgers took a pretty long time to come out too, despite the place being relatively empty. But we attributed this to possible understaffing (since it was so late) or to the fact that it is a new location. I took a few bites of my burger, but then I noticed there was a small piece of clear plastic integrated with the cheese. I took it out and examined it to make sure it wasn't just an onion skin. Nope. It was definitely plastic. Probably from wrapping their food in plastic wrap for storage. When we brought it to the attention of the server, he was extremely quick to inform the manager and the kitchen. My replacement burger came out fast and hot and had no plastic wrap in it The manager came by and apologized and offered compensation because they guarantee 110% quality food and service. We understand that these types of things can happen, so we were just happy that they dealt with it so quickly and even offered us more compensation. Ultimately, we enjoyed eating at this Silver Diner location and we will definitely be returning. If this review were based on management, friendliness of servers, cleanliness, and taste alone, it would be 5 stars. However, we had to wait a pretty long time for the burgers and even a bottle of beer, so I had to deduct a star. Honestly if they had half ratings, I would give them a 4.5! read more

My first time at this location and I am so happy they opened at RIO because I am around very often and always like to grab a bite after a nice walk around the lake. It's the perfect spot. I went to silver diner and ordered from there Haha menu. happy hour is until 6:30pm. I got the beyond meat (meatless/veggie) sliders and fried Brussels sprouts. I also enjoyed the rum berry mule which was really good you just have to mix it around a bit when they serve it to you because the soda water sits on top. We ended by ordering a chunky monkey shake and you can ask them for non dairy milk and ice cream and they will accommodate. The shake and the sliders were my favorite soo soo good. Service is almost always great. I'm giving it a low star rating because it is very difficult to get in the bathrooms with a manual or power wheelchair. Having to go in one door then as soon as you open that door you have to make a sharp left or right going into either bathroom. I'm the one pushing the person in the wheelchair. I have to lift up the chair with adult in the wheelchair. Then having to open the door to the bathroom and then having to open the stall bathroom. Bathroom isn't very big and not wheelchair friendly. It seems like the kitchen takes up most of the place. I hope if they ever remodel they think of making the bathroom bigger and wheelchair friendly. Also add a bathroom in the kitchen. read more
