There is so much hype surrounding Silver Grill, so I was excited to finally try it out. It was packed as always, but we were seated relatively quickly. The menu is expansive, but it's really just your standard breakfast dishes. It seemed a bit overpriced for the basic dishes as well. I will say, the cinnamon roll was definitely the best part of the meal-- these people know how to make a good cinnamon roll. Let me start off by saying I don't understand the vague negative reviews this place gets. If you have dirty silverware, tell someone. If you feel the coffee is watered down, ask for something else. The waitstaff we had last time was not only accommodating but knew his job and what to bring without being told. That's pro. Secondly the vegetarian green chili that was served with eggs and browns, my sister said was great. The cinnamon buns were also very good WITH the coffee. I've frequented this place three times and each time there hasn't been one problem (other than if you're sitting at the kitchen counter the heat from the kitchen is a bit warm). I created a Yelp account because I felt obligated as a member of society to walk through my experience here. Went for lunch with my future in-laws, excited about eating at such a historic and local place with such great reviews. It was all downhill from the moment we were sat. Our server seemed to be having a rough day, my future father in law and I ordered the special and were told - just before it was to come out - that the kitchen HAD JUST informed her they were out of burger buns. On a Saturday. No big deal, we swapped out bread. When the burgers came, they were without bacon. I asked for the bacon, was told it didn't come with it, then told never mind, it does. Annoying, but whatever. Unfortunately, then my burger had a VERY LONG HAIR in it. At the same time, a table of two next to us decided to leave without ordering. They must have felt our dismay. This place was sooo good!!! It was busy when we got there but we were about to sit at the counter and were greeted by our server immediately. My husband ordered the bacon infused blood Mary and I got the drunken chai. I don't even like bloody Mary's but that was delicious! And the chai hit the spot. Then for breakfast we got the stacked huevos and the breakfast tostada. I swear my husband was about to lick the plate! Don't believe the hype, we were disappointed. My BF and I ate hear after flying all night back from vacation. We hit it early right as they opened on a Friday. I ordered the veggie Benedict and he order the chicken fried steak. First off the benedict was bland it had no taste and not to mention about a quarter size serving of hollandaise over each egg. The chicken fried steak was also bland and the gravy was very bland as well. Each meal was around $15. We did not order a cinnamon roll. Silver Grill is easily one of my favorite brunch spots. Being from Denver I don't get to come often but when I do I always leave impressed and overly full. You can always expect a wait here but they have a patio in the back where you can get free coffee and a they have a massive build your own bloody mary bar that will keep you busy while you wait. Everything I've ever had here has been amazing. One year they had a thanksgiving breakfast hash that actually blew my mind, it was incredible. One of my favorite things is the Cinnamon roll toast. They take a cinnamon roll and cut it to be the size of a piece of toast and pan sear it so the sugar gets caramelized and delicious, this is a definite must get. If you are in Fort Collins (or even in Denver) you have to give this place a try, it is well worth the wait! read more

I've been coming here since the late 1950s and this was the worst meal we ever had here- no cinnamon rolls...again, much worse food than usual, poor service (got order wrong, never brought the bill). Ordered the red white and blue. How can you mess that up? But they did. Strawberries were mushy, granola was just crumbs, like the bottom of the barrel. Ordered dry toast. It wasn't. Almost soggy actually. Asked for soft bacon. Got stuff that was more like jerky. Gave 2 stars because I know they are batter than this. Just a really bad meal. read more

Silver grills cinnamon rolls are so scrumptious. you can tell they are filled with love. yummy cinnamon in every bite with a fluffy cloud like texture. i can not resist. i ate it all in under 5 min. next to me currently is a tall glass of lemonade. it's nice. quite tart but good. it's hard to drink without a straw but #savetheturtles Alas! my biscuits have arrived! you are all probably wondering how i can eat all this food in one sitting! it's mere strength and will. I was visiting my friend in Ft. Collins and we decided to come here because she said the breakfast tacos were the best. We were a little late for breakfast and slipped into the door just about 15 minutes before 2 pm when they close. The food was absolutely fabulous, but man when they shut down, they shut down. At two pm there were no refills on ice tea, the kitchen crew threw out what was left, there was no ice, or anything else that might have been offered. I understand when your sign says you close at a particular time you no longer take new customers, but to totally cut off any refills or ice to the existing customers already seated and enjoying their meal is a bit much. Our waitress was extremely apologetic that they didn't even have ice to cool the drinking water. It used to be the staff remained operational until the last customer left. Having worked in restaurants before I know when the place I worked at closed at 9 we still had diners and I often stayed until 10:30 or 11 pm to finish clean up after they left. Most people know when the restaurant has closed and will finish up in a reasonable time. I was just a bit disappointed with their attitude. read more

I suggested The Silver Grill Cafe since it's rich history and longevity in Fort Collins. The place was hopping, but we did not have to wait long for a table. The food was abundant and absolutely delicious. We did a bit of lallygagging since we were trying to visit, as well as eat. As busy as the place was, we never felt pushed to finish and leave. I took leftovers of bacon, hash browns and biscuits home and had them the next morning. In all the years I've been in this town, this is only the 3rd time I've eaten there. Mmmmmmm, butter taste. All over the place. No complaints with that. Before you keep reading, no we did not try the cinnamon rolls, but it looked like a ton of other people did. We were craving salt for breakfast. I had two eggs with cheddar, potatoes, and toast. I also had a 'shot in the dark' coffee, which I wasn't told would cost extra, so that was a little strange - but it was good. The eggs were soft and the cheddar was just enough to add without overwhelming. The potatoes reminded me of my mom's cooking, so that's always a plus. If you love old diners with historic relavance you will love this old town gem. This is where the locals eat and it's not pretentious or too expensive. The fried potatoes that come with breakfast were really great, crispy real potatoes seasoned and plentiful. My only gripe was the very salty bacon and the qunoia cakes that came with my breakfast special were too dense and over cooked. Other than that everything was great. Gluten free friendly! I was able to get my first burger in a long time because they had gf bread. I had an avacodo bacon burger that was amazing! Only reason I'm giving 4 and not 5 is the fries were not very good. Get the fruit side instead. Shout out to our server, Adrianne! She was very friendly and helpful. I wanted to go out on a limb and try a house special drink with cinnamon and mint and lime and she assured me I could order a new drink if I didn't like it. (Which I did end up taking her up on.) Delicious food but very slow to receive food. It was kind of lukewarm by the time we received it. Also ask early not to have them give you a plastic cup for your child. We are trying to reduce our plastic waste as Fort Collins DOES NOT recycle plastic. At least they use paper containers for take out. Friendly service. Gets crowded really early. read more

We got seated right away and the staff was very friendly. The skillet I got was so delicious!! It was a combination of potatoes, two types of cheese, eggs and bacon. If you have a sweet tooth then you should defiantly get the cinnamon role french toast. My husband ordered that and it was a nice sweet treat for sure!! We would definatly come back. read more

Um, excuse me, what the hell is going on in this place? Did the original owner croak and leave the place to his 5 year old niece who suffers from a severe case of ADD? Because honestly, this is exactly how I would expect a 5 year old with ADD to operate. Seated on a lovely patio, waitress greets us, asks what we want to drink, leaves. Comes back 3 or 4 times to help other tables, we get nothing. Finally another waitress comes and gives us coffee. Other customers arrive, are seated, and have drinks while we still havent ordered. We finally get to order, and when the food finally comes, Andy's omelet has a crusty top (ie. been under the heat lamp too long). They should have just given me a golf ball in a cup, because it would have been softer and easier to eat than the poached egg I was given. Nasty, nasty stuff. The fruit I ordered comes and half of it is over-ripe, with withered blueberries and mushy cantaloupe. Andy only gets one piece of toast because the other one "got stuck in the toaster". She offers to bring more, but the original piece came so late why do we want it now? Good god I worried I wouldnt live that long to ever see that second piece of toast. aaah morons. Why cant we just have a nice relaxing morning to enjoy breakfast? Honest to Pete it was 10am on a Thursday not exactly a Saturday rush. Writing this review is making me somewhat nervous. Why, you may ask? Evidently, the Silver Grill is a Fort Collins institution. If this city had a mafia, I might be afraid that I'd have a hole already dug for me somewhere out on the lone prairie. Sometimes, institutions get lax. Whatever might have made this place great at one time has simply, quietly, vanished. First, the positives. Prices are more than great. Cheap, cheap, cheap. This is pretty much why I decided on 2 and not 1 stars. Their location in downtown is part of the whole ambiance of living in Fort Collins. Once we were seated, service was fantastic. Evidently, their cinnamon roles are to die for, but I didn't have one but can testify that they did look srumptious (too early in the morning for something that rich for me). And that is where I stop with the positive. There exists this American mythos of the greasy spoon diner on a lone stretch of deserted highway having the best food on the planet. Sometimes, very rarely, this mythos becomes reality. Not so here. Silver Grill has food that I would rate on par with Denny's and lower than IHOP. The coffee was simply dark, warm (not hot) water. The bacon was thin and bland. Rubbery eggs and heavy and dry pancakes. Their saving grace was the potatoes, which were really quite good. Everything else about the food was unfortunately forgettable. Parking was problematic, at best. We waited 30 minutes to be seated (I think half the town was waiting to have breakfast). They do have coffee for patrons while you wait, which was a nice touch. They also supposedly have different rooms that are decorated according to various themes, but all I saw were barren walls that looked the same from room to room, with no discernable distinction from one to the next. The chairs were cheap and highly uncomfortable, and the tables looked like something bought at someones garage sale. This place could easily be a top notch, 5 yelp star place (never a Michelin starred restaurant, but that wouldn't be appropos here anyway) with a few changes (decor, MENU AND FOOD QUALITY being the easiest quick fixes - I'd be happy to GIVE them the best country gravy recipe on the planet if they'd use it). I can see where and how this place used to be great, how it deserved a great rep at one time. But sadly, not anymore. The absolute key to any restaurant's success is quality, quality, quality. Would it be the end of the world if they raised their prices $1-2 per plate just get better quality food? They'd still be cheaper than anyplace in town. read more

I've been coming here for years. The food and service is always amazing. The staff is very friendly. The reason I took a moment to review this place is because of an incident that happened. I am vegetarian and order a vegetarian breakfast. It came out with pork green chili instead of vegetarian. I get it accidents happen and this is the first issue I've ever had here so they have a great track. This is actually my reason for reviewing and posting They were extremely nice and polite about it. They offered to remake the food or to bring out anything else I'd prefer and at the end of the meal they covered the Check and gave us a complimentary cinnamon roll. I wasn't angry to begin with just a little upset but I really appreciated the genuine apologies from my server and the manager.
