Oh Silver Grill, how I miss you since moving away from Ft. Collins. But it just makes our reunions that much sweeter. That, or it could be your amazing cinnamon rolls? Either way, I try my best to get to you every Ft. Collins visit I can. Like I stated above, the cinnamon rolls are to die for and also great even a few days later! They usually have a bunch for sale up near the register and I've been known to grab one for later in the week. The food is always great. It's a bit of a greasy spoon, but what more are you really looking for after a *fun* night out in Old Town? They have had some really yummy specials too the last few times I've shown up in the morning after having one of those *fun* nights. Sure the wait outside can look a bit daunting, but I've never had to wait more than 20 minutes. Even after being told it could be a longer wait. The free coffee in the front that you can help yourself to while you wait is the best distraction and it makes the wait seem shorter. We travel to Ft. Collins every other summer for a work conference, but this was surprisingly my first visit to The Silver Grill Cafe! I walked in already knowing that I wanted to try the Cinnamon Roll French Toast, which as the name suggests, is made with slices of their well-known cinnamon rolls. I wasn't disappointed! The french toast was delicious and the generous slices are also filling! I was afraid the half order (2 slices) wouldn't be enough since we were on our way out of town and I wanted a hearty brunch to keep me full on the road. But, I couldn't finish the full order and will definitely go for the half order next time we visit! We also ordered the bottomless hash browns which were delicious. They are round slices rather than the shredded or diced potatoes that are more common, but they were soft inside with a good brown crust that gave them extra flavor and a great texture. Some of the best hashbrowns I've ever had! It was a pleasant morning, so we dined on the patio. It was a little loud among the packed tables inside, so I appreciated the quieter atmosphere out on the patio. Even on a weekend morning, our wait was only 20 minutes. There is free coffee offered while you wait, with tables on the rear of the patio to relax at while you are waiting to be seated for your meal. We moved to Fort Collins from Denver years ago because it was friendlier, slower-paced and a great place to raise a family. My husband grew up in a small town where everyone knew each other and kids went to school with each other from preschool all the way to high school graduation. And its where I bring my out of town guests for breakfast. Rarely is there a problem with the food, and when there is, its taken care of with a smile and an apology. Went here on a business lunch today... never heard of it before, and I don't frequent Fort Collins, but I love breakfast food. Also, I'm a serious cinnamon roll connoisseur, so this was the right choice. They have French Toast Cinnamon Rolls Who is the genius that decided to take an already great breakfast item, batter it and fry it? It's on the same level and about a step down from deep fried Twinkies. :) 2. They have a screwdriver. It's a little diner and they offer vodka with fresh squeezed orange juice. I don't really recommend drinking for breakfast, but the fresh squeezed orange juice is a nice touch. 3. They have four different rooms, each one themed. It's not the cheesy fake deco crap, but each room has a distinctive feel and design. I would have liked to sit "up town" but that section wasn't open when we went. 4. They have apple butter! When's the last time you saw apple butter at a diner? Anyway, if you ever find yourself up in Ft. Collins and are in need of a heart attack or a personalized mug it's worth a looksie. They are a little pricey though, with the breakfast burrito running about $10. If you're looking to go less expensive, their baked goods seem like they'd be worth a try and they also will do your normal cafe mixes. read more

according to my friends, this is the best breakfast place in town. i decided to try a bacon and cheese omlette. this was one of the best omelettes i have ever had. the egg was soft and not bruised at all. it didnt have an overwhelming taste of egg, which can ruin omlettes most of the time. my wife thought the bloody mary's could have had more spice, but the mimosa's were heavily champagned and a tastey morning drink. overall i will definitely re-visit once again. on my second visit, i went with the chicken fried steak which is delicious with a nice country gravy. probably the best chicken fried steak outside my mother-in-laws homemade from scratch. the cinnamon roll french toast is the by far the best french toast i've ever eaten in my entire life. portions are good for the price. i would've given them 5 stars because the breakfast is so freakin good, but the service always tends to be a little slow and they could probably stop by more often. for my third visit back to the silver grill, i decided to try the eggs benedict. they were just as delicious as everything else i have tried. my wife had the vegetarian huevos rancheros and she was not that impressed, but overall still the breakfast in fort collins. read more

TL;DR - Cinnamon roll was good. Service was not. I would go back again. I stopped in for a cinnamon roll before having to leave town. I got there around 9am and was invited to seat myself at the bar. The place had people, but did not seem overly busy - only myself and one other person at the bar. A waitress was carrying a conversation with the other patron at the bar. By their conversation he seemed like a regular. After about 4 minutes of conversation, she slid a napkin and utensils to me (no eye contact and did not break her conversation). After an additional 2 minutes, she paused to ask what I wanted to drink. I told her coffee and a cinnamon roll. She continued her conversation for another minute or two before ending her conversation and bringing me coffee. Five minutes later, she asks me if I wanted to get something to eat, but before I can answer she remembers "Oh sh*#, your cinnamon roll". Comes back with food and I ask for more coffee. I ended up having to ask another waitress, who happened to be walking by, for coffee because my waitress was MIA. In the end, the cinnamon roll was good, and so was the coffee; but service sucked. He got a mocha with Bailey's and extra espresso and I had a peach bellini - both were DIVINE. Food - he's more of a savory guy, so he got the special which was on par with the theme and some sort of hash (potatoes, eggs, meat, cheese). He finished every bite. I got the cinnamon roll French toast wherein they slice some of their World Famous cinnamon rolls thick and cook 'em up just like mom...but better! My first few visits to the Silver Grill shortly after moving here in summer 2005 were good - the food was good, the service was good, and it was generally the place I went when I went out for breakfast in Fort Collins. A few years ago that changed. I think I am remembering those early days every time I go back, and conveniently forget my most recent experiences - it seems to me that I go back about once a year expecting it to be as good as it used to be. This morning was one of those times, and I am hoping that I will remember from here on out and never go back again. This morning I ordered a three cheese omelet, with a cinnamon roll instead of toast. The cinnamon roll was good, but definitely not the best I have had, and would certainly never inspire me to recommend this restaurant based on the cinnamon rolls. The omelet was possibly the worst omelet I have had in a restaurant. There was no cheese inside the omelet - there were three thin slices of cheese melted on top, barely overlapping each other by about a centimeter at the inside corner of each square of cheese, and I think they were a bit old based on the fact that they formed a thin waxy layer over the top of the omelet that pulled away from the egg as soon as I pushed down through the cheese and egg with my fork. The egg part of the omelet was unseasoned and not at all fluffy. I did not finish the omelet. The potatoes, which I vaguely remember being really tasty once upon a time, were flavorless and dry - I had two bites and left those on my plate as well. The waitress appeared unconcerned that I did not enjoy my food, and I did not feel like pushing the issue - the breakfast had already put me in a bit of a bad mood, so I paid my $12 + tip for my omelet, potatoes, cinnamon roll, and water, and left, hoping I will remember to never return again. read more

I got the Turkey Avocado sandwich and my boyfriend got the Cold Meatloaf sandwich and both were pretty basic. It kind of just tasted like something I could have whipped up at home quickly, and both of our side fries were soggy and lukewarm. Plus, our waitress was pretty inattentive and almost seemed annoyed by our presence. At the end of the meal, I shelled out over $30 for two cold cut sandwiches and drinks and left feeling "eh." The first time we went here, we were too, "get the cinnamon roll toast... then order- but you have to start with the toast". It's life changing.
