So I think in the last 4 weeks I've been here 10-12 times now? Some weeks 3 or 4 times, some only once or twice. But I think the important piece of information is that this is now a regular stop for me. Let's break this down. Staff They chefs are great. They like to meet people, they can talk and work at the same time, and they aren't shy about sharing sake with you; and the manager is the same way. Food Haven't had a bad meal here once. The first time I ate here I stayed safe and ordered rolls from the menu. They were tasty, fresh, and light so I returned. The second time the owner, Cayman, made my fiancée and I a selection of items, some from the menu and some not. The meal was flavorful and balanced, and for two people it didn't kill my wallet either. Because of that experience I put the menu down and haven't looked back, because I trust their creativity and their skills. Atmosphere Sitting around the bar you'll find mostly regulars. People that come in weekly, whether it's once or five times. Everyone is friendly and it's not at all uncommon for someone to pass down a plate of rolls or a bottle of sale for everyone to try some. Sitting at the bar near the chefs reminds me of the show Cheers, where everybody knows your name when you walk in, and you're guaranteed a nice night. Grabbing a table in the rest of the restaurant is great too, especially if you want to have more of a one-on-one conversation with someone. Some days it's slow and you can really talk to the chefs, others you feel like you're in downtown Sacramento on a Saturday night. You just never know! Today was the last straw, i asked the young girl if I could add shrimp tempura to my order and she replied in a mono tone "that's not me it's your sushi chef you tell" and kept walking by. What was she doing? Walking over to check her phone. Some chefs like Jun make it hard for me to want to leave however this inconsistent food & service make it unbearable. Yum yum yum! This might be somewhat a hole in the wall joint but it's so eclectic and energizing. The employees and customers, that have been going there for years, are all fun and everyone loves the food. If you don't want something from the menu they'll make anything you want or the chef will make you their own specials. Also, they have a changing table for parents with a young one. Which I feel is kind of rare in smaller establishments, so bring the kids! read more

This place was just... weird.. my friend and I walked in and got seated right away. The waiter came and took our order, and we asked for a price of something off the menu and he didn't know so he went to check. Then another waitress comes over and rudely says "are you ready to order yet?" Lol weird. We ordered 3 rolls and 1 appetizer. The deep fried soft shell crab was good but when it came with a tiny spicy crawling on the plate. The sushi rolls were good, but nothing I'd drive all the way out there for again. The atmosphere was weird, just seemed like a bunch of friends just hanging out, at one point a girl walked in and was loudly greeted by the sushi chefs, then she went straight to the beer fridge grabbed a beer and walked right into the kitchen. Overall, the food was good but the staff was not very knowledgeable at all about the menu, service was pretty off putting. Tonight I tried the princess roll .. it was delicious, but they unfortunately forgot the avocado. There were little smears of avocado here and there, but nowhere near what it should be. I am extremely disappointed with my experience tonight. I ordered a roll, tempura, lava bites, and two miso soups through GrubHub at 7pm. The restaurant states they close at 9pm, and we received our order at around 8pm, which was fine. The issue is that more than half of my order was missing: the two soups and the lava bites. So I reordered the items as soon as I noticed, and my order was immediately canceled bc they "closed." I called the restaurant and they would not answer any of my calls. I understand that mistakes happen, but I was not okay with the fact that no one even tried to pick up the phone or attend to the issue. Their food is supposed to be great, but I wouldn't know... I am not happy with the customer service. I'll check back to see if anyone helps tomorrow... read more

If you're just looking for a good time with friends and some good sushi, this is your place. We came here for a friend's promotion dinner. The restaurant isn't very big, and since our party was about 15 people, we got the special "lounge" room in the back, with two tables and a circle of couches. Kind of cool, but kind of hard to eat. The chefs are extremely friendly, and so are the servers. They make you feel extremely welcomed, and are even down to drink with you. (This may be a good or bad thing, depending on what kind of experience you are trying to go for.) If you're in it for a good time, down to party, then this is the experience for you. If you're looking for more of a sophisticated, sit down, professional place, then maybe you might want to look elsewhere. This place is more of a laid back feel, where you go to have a beer or two while watching some sports event, or just wanting to get rowdy with a bunch of friends. We had a lot to eat that night, so I can't exactly pinpoint what rolls were good and not. I CAN tell you that the pepperfin is delicious! Big slices of pepperfin topped with jalapenos! We had a platter of cooked rolls, and a platter of raw rolls, and I gotta say, to me, they were all extremely delicious. I don't remember eating a bad roll. We devoured everything on both platters! Overall, a good experience. I've been here once or twice before with co-workers during lunch, and the only complaint I had then was that the food took a little too long. First off, the fish/sushi is outstanding. Secondly, the ambience is extremely warm and inviting, and it induces patrons to engage in casual conversations with one another. Kaman (the owner) has opened a new restaurant in Rocklin so for the past year he hasn't been present as much -- when he *is* here, absolutely EVERYTHING is on point. Since he's been away though, things have started to slip. The chefs (front and back house) have continued to be loyal to his mission.. but the service has really gone down hill. Last week (for the 3rd time in the past 6-months) I tried calling to a place "to-go order". The line rang once and I then received a message stating, "..we're sorry, the subscriber has not setup their voicemail box yet; goodbye." So for the 3rd time I've had to go into the restaurant to place my to-go order and remind the maître d' that their phone is off the hook and nobody can reach them. Each time they apologize for the inconvenience and hangup the wireless handset. But those types of things; and not having drinks refilled or used/empty plates left on the table for more than 10 minutes -- those are the types of details that are fundamental that need to be addressed. read more

I was so excited to see this dive restaurant packed on a Friday evening. I'm not one to shy away from a crowd, especially because it tells you this place must be good! I was very disappointed, It felt like this place was high school and we were not part of the "it" crowd. We got a warm welcome in but that was the last of the pleasantries. The bar was crowded and everyone was taking shots- even all the sushi chefs. I'm totally down with having fun on the job, but one of the chefs was TURNT up! I saw him take at least a dozen shots, one right after another and his face was beet red. As soon as he finished his shot, the customer immediately poured him a new one so there was a shot waiting for him the whole evening. Now the service. We were sat pretty quick but waiters were never to be seen again. However, the 2 tables that came after me got drinks before I even got a menu! Had to walk up to them and ask for a menu and water! This place is tiny, so it's hard to not make contact, but the 4 servers this evening managed to do just that. It seemed they helped everyone around us, I felt invisible! The thing is we had no clue who was our server because it seemed so random who had what table. Finally someone came by and we quickly ordered some yelp favorites (garlic roll, tempura) just to get some food going. The special on the board for Friday was oysters. I asked what the special means- he said "we have oysters". Ok... I can read that, what kind of oysters, raw or cooked, how is it cooked, grilled or deep fried, how much does it cost? He had to leave to ask, came back and said $3, nevermind any other details of my questions. The food was ok, potions are small and prices are high. Honestly I don't mind paying the higher prices, especially for a small mom and pop shop, but the service here clearly is meant for the regulars and I sadly am an outsider wanting so badly to fit in. The yellowtail tuna was tough in texture and had such a weird flavor that I immediately spit it out! Been coming here for about 12 years. Spent so many memories with family, and friends here. Things have changed. The owner is no longer around, and doesn't respond to messages. The management is the worst it has ever been. Recently ordered over the phone spent $80. The order was completely wrong,and gross. We literally made grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner, and threw it all away!! Called and spoke to the manager who apologized, and said she would leave a gift card for us. So we go in to eat tonight. The manager I spoke to is there and says she can only give a $20 gift certificate! For and $80 meal we didn't eat?!! The attitude given was so unwarranted and as if we needed a hand out. Yes after 12 years all I get is a $20 credit for my $80 meal that ended in the trash? Even McDonald's would do better than that. It has been going downhill, and no matter how much we try to give benefit of doubt- it still ends up bad. It's extremely disappointing we have spent holidays, birthdays, special occasions, and brought a TON of new customers to them. I will say John the chef was so amazing! He stepped in to help. So I have been looking for a sushi place, and I was highly recommended for this one my neighborhood app... They had an online menu and I set up an account. I ordered 2 California rolls ( #1 and #2) for my daughter, tempura vegetables, Goyza, and Miso soup. I made the order at 3pm, to pick up at 6pm..... since they open at 5. I got there a 5:55pm The place is small and there were too many people inside, not wearing masks or social distancing. BUT the people that worked there at the counter and registers had masks. There were several orders packaged to go on counter. I said my name and they pointed to the bag. I live 2 minutes from restaurant, off Marconi. At home my daughter enjoyed California rolls. They were good, but tasted like other CA rolls I have tasted. The soup came in smaller container than I would have liked for the $3.00 price, but my daughter liked it even room temp... so that was a plus. The Tempura had six pieces, was not warm, and was extremely soggy, and oily. The Goyza tasted good, but wasn't warm, but more of a room temp. The dipping sauce was a little spicy which we liked. There were no napkins, soy sauce or a spoon for the soup in the bag. A staple At other takeout places. At home I checked the receipt and it said keep until 5:15, and at top said customer will pick up at 6. Later I got on my email and saw I had a confirmation to pick up at 635???? There is no way that would have been a legal food temp. I am disappointed. Not just for the price we paid (40.00 a lot of money in my world right now), but I was really excited to have someplace close to get my daughter her favorites. I would love to say is a few months we can go eat inside and eat, but I will have to really think about that. read more

My cousin recommended this place for lunch and we absolutely loved it! I think it's perhaps some of the best sushi I've had! We ordered the barbecued tuna, the pepper fin, over the rainbow roll, hamachi and green onion, and the superman roll. The cuts of fish was very generous and everything tastes so fresh and just absolutely delicious! In addition to the amazing food, the service was also excellent.
