We arrived at 6 PM to meet and have dinner with a friend. It was a little early for dinner so we decided to step into the lounge for a little chat and a adult beverage. The crowd seemed to be a mix of locals and out of town folks. We found the lounge to be a very welcoming place lots of art on the walls and plenty of room to stretch and enjoy your drink. The wine list is without question one of the best in the area. I'm a snob about my beer don't like anything but pilsners but they were able to accommodate even my tastes. The most impressive thing we noted was we were not rushed. We wanted to visit a little before dinning and we were granted that choice. We decided to eat in the lounge and that was fine with our waitress. Again a very impressive menu. The waitress suggested that I try the clam chowder. It was excellent in fact I could have had another bowl of that alone and would have been fine. I ordered the Halibut dinner and was pleased with portion size and presentation. Again we were not rushed we were able to eat and visit without someone constantly asking if everything was all right. I know she was watching over us but just did not bother us. We really enjoyed our visit and we will be back. I would say this is a must dine out location if you Visit Astoria you should include Silver Salmon in your plans. read more

A great meal...my friends and I were delighted at the food quality...just a little pricey so be prepared (prices close to Il Terrrazzo Carmine in Seattle if you're familiar). Heartbreakingly disappointing. The pictures looked sensational and we wanted a lovely restaurant to bring our relatives from Florida to; some place with a charming atmosphere and fine cuisine, to really show them what the Pacific Northwest has to offer. Our server was rude, obnoxious, intrusive and completely obtuse to the experience we had hoped to enjoy. He interrupted our conversation repeatedly, from three feet away, at least nine times! He spoke in a very loud and authoritative voice, and when my cousin asked about the special, the server actually rolled his eyes. Mid sentence he barged in to ask about dessert. Generally in an upscale establishment the server exudes a degree of professionalism. He might approach quietly and make eye contact with one of us before shouting information. The food was fine. We received what we ordered, prepared essentially the way we asked. Anyone can have an off night, I get that. So we gave it another try several nights later, on my birthday. We told the hostess that it was my birthday. She sighed and said she'd try to find "somewhere to put us". (There were six open tables that I could see.) That encounter was even more horrifying than our first. We were seated next to the kitchen, then we waited 13 minutes to receive water. People breezed past without making eye contact. When my husband said "Excuse me" a staff member put his hand up and continued walking into the kitchen. After a 25 minute wait, the same server from the last encounter grudgingly took our order. (Our ticket said his name is Ethan. He didn't introduce himself or have a name tag.) Unexpectedly, he approached from behind and reached in front of my face to serve soup to my husband. He nearly hit me! Our entrees were slammed on the table and of course there were multiple ill timed interruptions. He didn't offer to show us a dessert menu. I have never had food that was better prepared. The blackened salmon complimented the Alfredo pasta so well that I was afraid that trying any other dish could only lead to disappointment in comparison... Then we went for Valentine's dinner and I experienced the best meal of my entire life with lobster, prime rib, and garlic mashed potatoes. I almost died of happiness the next day when the portion I had to take home was just as succulent, though not as well dressed as the night before. Our daughter, son-in-law and the grand kids invited us out to your restaurant for my wife's 60th birthday. It was our first time there...and the last! My wife ordered filet mignon. She rarely has a steak but decided to have the filet mignon which is considered to be the most tender, "king of steaks". I noticed that she "picked" at it and didn't finish it. She's not a big eater so I didn't pay too much attention. Being the kind and gracious person she is and not wanting to cause a scene or hurt anyone's feelings, she didn't say anything until we were on our way home. She told me that her steak was the absolute worst filet she had ever had. It was over cooked and tough as leather! How disappointing for her! I had scallops over risotto with steamed vegetables. The scallops were good but the risotto was just...okay. The vegetables were over cooked with a lot of baby carrots that were almost raw, perhaps to make it look like there were more than there was is all I can guess. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and attentive and the rest of the wait staff were right there whenever we needed anything. So, great wait staff (a five star for them) and the food was sub-par. One of the growing list of upscale restaurants on the coast. If your into wine and a full bar and a high level of dining experience this is a good choice. I'm usually not up to that scale but the listing on their side board said they had fresh sturgeon fish and chips and I had to succumb. The interior is of the dark UK club style. The service was excellent. And the sturgeon lived up to my expectations; fresh, meaty lightly battered fish with real chips. The tarter sauce was special and delicious. At $18 it cannot be called cheap but more than fair for a fish that is hard to find and fresh to boot - a good value and well worth it. read more

Reviews for this place look like they're all over the board, but I'm happy to say that our dinner was one of the best I've had on our two week vacation. The place was not very busy, and we were seating in the back of the dining area. Nice murals on the walls and a comfortable, "low key elegant" atmosphere. Our server was excellent, explaining everything on the menu that we questioned. My husband has an allergy to crab, and while he can eat crustaceans, shrimp and fish, we wanted to make sure that whatever he chose didn't have any hidden crab. He ended up with a steak and coconut shrimp. The steak was cooked to his order and he said it was outstanding. I had a baked salmon with basil pesto, covered with Dungeness crab (sorry Honey). It was superb. Not overly smothered with the pesto. The garlic mashed potatoes were excellent. The champagne vinaigrette salad dressing was unique and delicious. Wow. This dinner was indestinguishable from the hospital cafeteria where I work. The website is very misleading, and while I thought I was getting gourmet salad, the 'bacon' was from a jar, clearly canned olives and grated cheddar cheese with iceberg lettuce, true buffet classics. The salmon was mushy and had an overabundance of cheap parmesean half melted over the top. For my husband and I it was 50 dollars but we ate it as if it cost us 10 dollars. Fast. read more

The cheif and main servers have been with them for as long as they have been in business (tells me they are doing things (peoplewise),service and great tastewise. Simply Awful. My wife and I were looking for a good chowder over seafood fest weekend, so we thought we'd try Silver Salmon, based on reviews that we had seen for their "award winning" chowder. We walked in and were bombarded with dated wannabe Avant Garde decor that looked like it walked out of 1987, and were served by a host that was as pretentious and condescending as all get out. We were served salad that we could have had at any truck stop diner, and a chowder that was not quite as good as Campbell's Chunky variety. Our entrees were incredibly overpriced, took forever, and were measly. Poor presentation, bland and lukewarm. Perhaps we caught them on a bad day but it was one of the most poorly executed dinners I've had in quite a while. It's taken a while to get impression out of my mind when associating a location with Astoria. I love Astoria, and I want to continue loving Astoria. Because of poor, pretentious service, an extremely mediocre but absurdly overpriced meal, and a very sad ambiance, we will never return. And the so-called awards received for the chowder... yeah. The most recent award we saw posted (there is a series of wooden/engraved plaques hanging on the wall) was a plaque from 1996. I believe hearing before leaving that ownership has changed twice since then. I think this place thinks of itself as being much more of an elegant dining treasure than it really is. We left feeling a bit cheated, patronized, and disregarded. We also felt the treatment we received could have very well been related to the fact we're gay. Definitely the best salmon I have ever had. It was cooked to perfection, the flavor combinations were great and you could tell it was very fresh. I don't remember the name of my dish but it was stuffed with crab and prawns with a reduction sauce I believe it was silver salmon special and I would recommend it to any sea food lover. My dad had the black pepper Halibut and loved it too. Lastly the clam chowder was very good and the champagne vinaigrette was a terrific dressing for the salad. We eat here once or twice a year and always enjoy the food and atmosphere. The darker, older bar and woodwork are "old town" and the bar is the original from the "Brass Rail." I always check to see what's fresh (I eat seafood) , and when it's razor clams, that what I'm having -- tender and sweet. The fish and chips are great too. Service has always been very good, and I like that I can buy a glass of decent wine and not be charged an arm and a leg for it. Check out the happy hour specials and you may never even make into the restaurant. They also do a nice job with private parties. read more

Fish was hard and over cooked, clam chowder had no flavor, linguine sauce was unidentifiably terrible. I wouldn't let my daughter eat much of it because I didn't want to send up getting sick. The Silver Salmon lounge has become one of our three favorite places when my wife and I visit Astoria, normally a couple times a month. Generally, we like to "graze" on happy hour type food while enjoying an ice cold delicious adult beverage. They have good IPAs from local breweries and excellent spirits from a local distillery. Nearly every food item we have had here has been excellent. The only thing I have had here that was only"OK" was their regular burger. Have had a bacon bleu cheese burger (lunch special), excellent. Chefs special, tomato, bacon, bleu cheese soup, excellent, Gouda cheese burger, excellent. Cheesy Cajun steak fries, excellent. Our son, who lives in Astoria really likes the oyster shooters and clam chowder. Last time were were there, two days ago, my wife was telling the bartender how much she had liked the Chefs special tomato bacon bleu cheese soup she had several months ago but it is not on the menu. A few minutes later the head chef comes out and sits down with us. He offered to make up a special batch his tomato bacon bleu cheese soup, 64 oz. container, to go. read more

This is a hokey rip-off of a sorry attempt at being a high end surf and turf joint. Party of two went in on a weekend night around 8:45 pm. Maybe 10 other people total in the restaurant. Waiter took 15 minutes to come get our drink order. The wine was way over priced for the poor quality. Ordered two steaks for the table, the petite filet mignon medium rare with a side salad and the Cajun Spencer Steak with side salad, medium to medium-well. The bread was store bought and rewarmed in the microwave due to the temp, lack of steam, hardness, and it was incredibly dry. The salad was wilted and simple iceberg lettuce with some red leaf thrown in there (not confused with wilted lettuce). The filet was cooked to a medium well (just trace of pink) and the cajun was cooked beyond medium well. The bourbon mushroom sauce used canned mushrooms, mashed potatoes were from powdered concentrate, cajun seasoning was just as much salt as they could put on the steak, and there was no flavor to anything. The food was horribly over-priced, as it clearly was trying to use a high price point to infer quality. It's almost as if this restaurant was trying to be "a restaurant that served food that rich people eat at," but had no idea what that meant outside of steak, lobster, crab, and wine...all over-priced. The decor seemed like it was modeled after the movie Scarface...all tacky, no class, and seemingly rushed together because it was "expensive." There was no flavor or creativity in the offerings. I left feeling insulted and almost robbed when I saw our bill. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone. To the waiter's benefit, he was nice, courteous, and attentive (outside of taking 15 minutes to get our first drink order). The food didn't take forever to arrive. There was a roof over our head, lights were on, and no one was vacuuming while we were still eating....most likely cause the side room the restaurant is almost a dive bar...which should have tipped me off. Note, we did not have any seafood from this place, so I cannot comment on the quality of that. But if everything else is an indicator, I would assume any seafood from this place might give you food poisoning, but that's just my opinion. read more

Honestly, I think Silver Salmon tops the charts for Astoria. I moved to the area a year ago from Chicago and am slowly trying to hit all the area restaurants. While I don't consider myself a snob or incredibly picky, I definitely know a good restaurant when I see one. I went to Silver Salmon for the first time last night. Noticed a fishy smell when I first sat down which kind of unnerved me. Seems like I've heard if fish is fresh it's NOT supposed to smell. But the service was excellent and the fish was great. Nothing to worry about. Very good salmon. Very good halibut. Wonderful appetizers. I really liked their New England clam chowder. It's authentic and well done. Great cocktail. Extensive menu which I really appreciated. If you don't want fish, there are plenty of other options. The servers seemed quite professional -- like they had this down and were actually making a career out of this -- rather than just hanging in there 'til the next job came along. This was the best food I've had in Astoria and I've about made it to most of the top restaurants (not like there's a long list!). Based on my experience last night, I'd say Silver Salmon Grille can hold its head high. read more
