I gave it a one star because you have to give it something. This place doesn't even deserve a star. The host seems to have something against making money for the owners. Twice I have come off the mountain wanting just a light appetizer and a beer. Both times he told me there's a 30 minute wait. There were five empty tables and five or six seats at the bar. It was just me and he told me there were several parties of four or more ahead of me. Well that doesn't make any sense. Is a party of four or more going to sit at the bar? I doubt it. I love this place, when I discovered it a couple of seasons ago, it was often quite lonely. A secret place at the bottom of a lesser travelled ski run. Not now. It is good, there is outside seating with tables, chairs and some sofas. On a sunny day this is an excellent choice to take your break while skiing. It is just a few steps from the lift so you are soon back on the slopes. They serve you quickly, the staff are friendly and the owner or manager is always prowling around so the staff stay lively. This is Utah, no alcohol without food, but you can order homemade sweet potato chips or something similar as your "meal". The menu is quite extensive and everyone should find something agreeable. At night they often have live music and I would advise a reservation at the weekend. It's cool, off Main St so better prices but similar quality and worthy the exploration. P.S. There is a friendly little bulldog that roam around in between the tables, don't feed her! read more

If the soul were a real thing, you'd burn in hell because Mormon Jesus would have betrayed you all in for the braised short rib. Seriously. It's that damn good. This place is amazing. The Tito's organic vodka martini was delicious. The sauce the mussels were prepared in was so tasty, we ordered extra bread just to maximize the experience. The short rib came surrounded by a wonderful risotto, braised Brussels sprouts, and carrots, all wonderfully prepared. You just never know where you are going to find a new restaurant to try! We've been coming to Park City for 20 years, and never even heard of this place, let alone ate here, but we were watching Diners, Drive-ins and Dives one night, and low and behold, Guy is visiting the Silver Star. Looked great, so we figured we would give it a try. To start, we had the brandade, the blue cheese toast, and the braised slab bacon. The brandade (a sort of hot dip made from bacalao/salt cod and sun chokes, served with toasted pumpernickel toast. It was off the charts good! Our youngest son liked it so much, when we ran out of toast, he just ate the brandade out of the ramekin! The slab bacon was also excellent. Slowly braised to render out some of the fat, then crisped up and glazed with a maple-burboun sauce. I just wish there had been more! The blue cheese toast was okay, but wasn't my favorite. Could have saved the room for another brandade! For entrees, we had the duck, the stroganoff, the fried chicken, and the pot pie. The duck was superb, a perfectly cooked breast with a coffee rub and the most amazing blood orange and basil relish that set off the richness of the duck with just the right amount of acidity and brightness. It also came with some really good braised red cabbage (as good as you get in Central Europe), these fantastically good baby parsnips, and some sort of sweet glazed almonds. The combination of all of those flavors and textures was just dynamite! My wife had the stroganoff with spatzle and wild mushrooms. You can also choose to add the flank steak and she did. The dish was very good, although not your typical stroganoff. It was chocked full of several variety of very nice, fresh wild mushrooms and pearl onions, and the spatzle was obviously hand made. The sauce was creamy and rich as it should be. Definitely a pleaser if you like stroganoff. Another in our party ordered the vegetable pot pie, and added the optional chicken. It came out in a pot with a beautiful golden pastry top, and was filled with fresh vegetables, chunks of chicken, and the classic, smooth chicken gravy. The last guest had the half fried chicken, a very nicely fried chunk of meat in a thick and crunchy mahogany brown crust. The chicken comes on a bed of lentils, which weren't the biggest hit, but he ordered the coconut cream corn as a side, and that disappeared in an instant. Along with dinner, we tried their house Tempranillo from Paso Robles, which was a very nice wine, especially for the price point, and paired well with the hearty food. Service was excellent throughout too! We actually had the good fortune of having the owners' son wait on our table, and his enthusiasm was infectious. It is clear that this family loves their restaurant, and loves what they are doing. Silver Star also features live music on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and the night we were there they had a trio of two singers and a guitar. Although Silver Star is quite small, the music wasn't overly obtrusive, and it added to the ambiance. I will warn folks, it is a bit hard to find, even with a GPS or an iPhone. The trick is the address brings you to the back of the building (on the main street). You have to go past the address on Three Kings Drive, make your first left on Silver Star Court, and then make your next left into a parking lot that runs parallel to Three Kings back towards PCMR. The restaurant is at the end of that spur. read more

A Must Go!! I came to Park CIty a few weekends ago on a whim because the BF had a conference at one of the resorts there. I wasn't expecting to be too impressed with the food offerings there after spending a week in NYC. For most of the weekend, that turned out to the be true, but Silver Star Cafe was a pleasant exception. We came for a late dinner and loved everything about it. The awesome bluegrass duo, Jake and Rebekah Workman, performing. Their live music fit perfectly into the cute, rustic theme of the restaurant. The music wasn't too loud (which usually is an issue with live music, in my opinion), so we could still have a conversation. Our server was very attentive, regularly filling our waters and being a good sport about us wanting to split everything. For our food, we ordered and shared the following: Appetizers: ARUGULA SALAD (Grape tomatoes, fingerling potatoes, red onion and snap peas): The BF loved this. I didn't think it was anything special, especially when I'm subjected to fancy salads everyday for lunch in SF Fidi, but it did feel very light and healthy! BUTTERNUT SQUASH RAVIOLI: Off the Special's menu. This was my favorite of the night! I can never resist butternut squash... or any non-cheese ravioli! This surprisingly filled me up, so much so that I couldn't finish my main course. Main: BRAISED BEEF SHORT RIB: Huge portion, very tender and flavorful. It comes with risotto which I'm generally not a huge fan of, but I found it to be tasty and worked well with the short rib. At the end of the meal, both of us were stuffed for having only ordered 2 appetizers and a main. For the size of the meal, the price was definitely worth it. I highly recommend this place! If you aren't a a regular then I hope you like sitting facing the parking lot. Made reservations for dinner to enjoy the view in advance, arrived to find not one but two open tables against the "railing" but are saved for requests and "regulars", staff was very unaccommodating. Went to celebrate my wife's birthday, made online reservation for indoor seating. Arrived about ten minutes early- we were seated immediately at a window table with a view. Chantal was our server- greeted us promptly asked for drink orders, we weren't ready yet. No problem, came back at a good time. Took our orders and answered questions and offered recommendations. We got the olive burrata starter, very good- burrata was decent, not like in Italy but still tasty. My wife ordered the halibut and I had the osso bucco- both were prepared well, the sides were good- servings were ample, not too much but filling. My wife ordered the carrot cake for dessert - good serving, moist, cream cheese icing was delicious. I had just black coffee with cream that was good. Decent cocktail menu, I went with a double rye from high west and a glass of Malbec with dinner that Chantal recommended- it went welll with the pork. My wife had a glass of the chardonnay that was good and paired nicely with the halibut. We also enjoyed the two musicians playing guitar and singing- provided a nice vibe for dinner but not intrusive. Overall a very nice evening- ambiance, food, and service. Chantal was very friendly, provided great feedback/recommendations, was attentive but showed up at the right time. We are looking forward to returning and enjoying the patio dining when it warms up a little more. My only negative comment is it might be nice to have a little broader main course selection and wines by the glass selection- but I understand why they probably don't do too wide of selection on the wine by glass as they don't turn a lot of tables and would probably have to toss it. read more

We went here for lunch during our ski day a few times and absolutely loved it. Each time we went we had great service and amazing food however it is pricey. I enjoyed the Reuben and the turkey club. The turkey club sandwich was the best I've ever had (it has a fried egg on it). I also was able to get it on gluten free bread! The only frustrating part is the servers do not notify you regarding extra charges incurred for things such as splitting a meal or changing your side to a different salad offered. read more

Kind of hard to really rate this place as it was our first time and the food was kind of mixed. I had the elk burger which was really good. The wife had gluten free short ribs which turned out to be really salty and dry to the point where the wife couldn't eat them. The management handled it really well and didn't charge us and they offered a free dessert. However, we declined as we were full as we got some Brussels sprouts and a beet salad. I hover between 3 and 4. In the end with two visits it's still a 4. It's just that they made a pretty big deal about getting the level that the steaks should be cooked just right and then overcooked them all. On the first trip up we had lunch, sat out on the patio, drank some beer and watched people golf down below. We brought our rat terrier and all had a good time. Yesterday, we were inside. The service was excellent. All the food that wasn't steak was cooked just OK, but tasted excellent. The food and beer is fairly priced. I'd still come back -- for lunch. read more

Yikes. What a rip-off. Heard good things so stopped by for lunch by myself to read a book and enjoy their food. There were five empty tables and the hostess walks me two feet from the door to the one right at the doorway that would be dead Center of the entering foot traffic. I politely asked if i could have another seat. She rolled her eyes and asked me to wait. Did she take me to any of the other four empty tables? Nope. She goes to the very corner of a bar top where the staff keeps their things. She clears about a one foot area for me (I'm over 200 lbs). And she walks me there where I see that my right arm would have to rest on some old candles they are keeping stored away and my view would include the bulk bin of corn chips. And what's blocking me from the kitchen line? Literally with the space for my chair to pull back four inches is a foldable fabric screen blocking none of the sounds of cooking or staff conversations. I decide to get the food to go. I get the salmon salad and walk home. I get home to find out the EIGHTEEN dollar salad had less than three ounces of salmon. The salmon is as big as a men's thin wallet. The salmon is three inches by three inches by less than an inch. It's dry and small and EIGHTEEN dollars. With tip (I know I shouldn't have but years in the restaurant biz and I tip too much too often), I paid 21.00. So I'm a visitor and won't have to worry about making a decision of eating their food again. But the rest of you, best of luck. They clearly had something personal against me. read more

Normally, I would give a place like this 4 stars because of the price...BUT I don't care, they are so worth it for the ambiance alone. Not a huge space inside, but seems like they normally have outside seating too. Look up and try to make a reservation ahead of time. This helps get a table faster and also you can choose the night with the live band you are more interested in. The staff is one of the best I have ever witnessed. Super friendly and accommodating. They take reservations and if you're on a time schedule, it might be a great idea since the place isn't all that big. Food and drinks were creative versions of typical comfort foods and classic cocktails which we loved and made their menu stand out above others. We were visiting from out of town, and our hosts--who have a condo within walking distance of this place--wanted to treat us to a meal here. We started with a wonderful bottle of Merlot from Millbrandt Vineyard near Tri-Cities, WA, which was excellent. Dishes ordered included the salmon pasta, osso bucco, and the mushroom ragout with chicken. Starter ordered was the root vegetable salad, which we all sampled. Portions were generous--two of us shared the mushroom dish, and the other two of us could not totally finish our dishes. All were delicious! Desserts were the chocolate chili flourless torte (a little too spicy for more than a couple bites for any of us) and the chocolate sunflower butter cup (incredible!) Our waitress, Nancy, was friendly, knowledgeable, and extremely sweet. We came on a Thursday so it was music night. Unfortunately, the vocals were hard to hear because of some audio problems, but the guitar was top-notch. A really nice addition to the meal. I will not be returning! This place is the complete opposite of what Park City has to offer. Upon arrival, we asked to sit outside on the patio with the beautiful view as that is a big part of why we travel to Utah, the mountains! After speaking with the hostess, she stated that the tables were reserved for a 2 hour time limit and the next table was arriving at 7:45. We arrived at 6:30 for our reservation and would have been completed with our meal with time to spare in that time frame (in which we were). Meanwhile, 3 patio tables sat empty during the duration of our stay. The only reason this review is getting one star is due to the simple fact our server was somewhat personable and offered suggestions of activities for the remaining time of our stay. Otherwise, the service was slow and not accommodating. The value of the food was poor, nothing special. My husband's filet was cut in half and then triangled again leading to about a 6oz. steak, at best, for $42. The sides were over salted. The salmon dish was flavorful but came out of the kitchen luke-warm. Value, customer service and hospitality were a huge miss here. Hopefully, visitors to Park City do not base their judgement of the area on this experience alone. After dinner, we walked out to the patio, for a quick view only to find the area roped off with a sign stating, "reserved for owners and their invited guests." In my opinion, my $200 check was invitation enough to enjoy all the views that the cafe had to offer. Furthermore, the elevator down had a sign specifically stating not to use for "rides" and there was an age limit on the sign.
