On Christmas day my go to thai restaurant was closed. I took a chance with a local thai restaurant, not expecting much. The lady that took my order was very nice. We pulled up to the shopping center and saw the restaurant tucked in the corner. I was suspicious and not sure what to expect. I ordered the penang curry, sea food fried rice , cashew chicken and coconut soup. Once arrived at home , everything looked great. I rarly go to yelp to leave a review. Simi Thai Cuisine is a local gem that really stands out. If we're being honest with each other, Simi Valley is lacking in terms of great local spots, but this place truly never disappoints. I order take-out from Simi Thai Cuisine regularly and it's always so flavorful and delicious. I always ask for extra egg on my pad thai noodles because the way they cook them is so good. I know that sounds weird, but trust me on this. Those eggs are fire. Don't even get me started on the crab cheese wontons - they are so good. A friend and I were in town for an event. It was getting kind of late and we were starving. She said she wanted something with rice. Okay! Yelp pointed us here and we both love Thai food. We came through this awkward strip mall/shopping center and arrived at the restaurant. Small space but they make good use of it. Panang curry is a favorite dish of mine but my friend had never tried it. I didn't want to steer her in the wrong direction at a restaurant I'd never been to, but we both decided to get it at the owner's recommendation. I ordered a glass of wine with my meal. Our food came out in a decent amount of time and wow! This was some of the best panang curry I've ever had! My friend was so enamored with her meal, she ordered a second bowl of rice and finished every bite. My wine wasn't very good, but with food like this, who needs it. Service was great; everyone was very kind, attentive, and happy to answer any questions. We both mentioned how unfortunate it is we don't live nearby because we'd love to come back. The service is always friendly and attentive. I placed my order through the phone, and it was ready by the time they suggested it would be ready and was made fresh to order. The ribs special is the bomb. The ribs are always meaty and cooked to perfection, pairing perfectly with their sweet sauce, and their fried rice is always seasoned to perfection. In my opinion it's the best combo with a little bit of tangy and lemongrass flavors from the larb. I had a hankering for Tom Yum shrimp soup and asked to add chicken. I highly recommend. It is very delicious. Although today is February 10, 2022 which is still considered winter, the temperature out here in Simi Valley is 81°. We did order this dish not spicy because Thai spice is next level spice. - Seafood Fried Rice- Not really a fan or fried rice but this was really good. They did not cheap out on the seafood. You actually get chucks of scallops, squid, fish, shrimp, and it even came with a king crab leg!!! I can't forget to mention the Smokey flavor it has. - Pad Woon Sen: this noodle dish was really good. When I go Thai restaurants I usually order pad Thai. I wanted to try something new. Glad we did. It's crazy because with this dish, although it's a noodle dish, I didn't feel as if it was carb overload. A complete meal in itself with your choice of protein. -we ordered a veggie dish as well. Food deserves 5 stars. But I am giving 3 because I am beyond irritated because I ordered multiple dishes including panang curry and orange chicken. I specified that I wanted steamed rice. I was charged $4 for a large rice because neither dish apparently comes with it. The large rice was also not large enough for the two entrees. Also a large Thai iced tea with Boba is $7!!! We found this little place in a yelp search, and never realized that it even existed as we have driven by the strip mall numerous times. It is located next to an antique shop in the strip mall on Tapo St. where McDonalds is located. A small dining hall boats perhaps 8-10 tables, nicely decorated with Thai art work. The place was very clean. The service was great and I noticed lots of repeat customers as the servers were calling people out by their names! It also nice to see patrons who are speaking their native language to the servers, meaning if I'm Thai and eating in a Thai restaurant, the food must be good, right? We ordered fried won tons, papaya salad, chicken pad see ewe and Tom Kha coconut soup. The soup was flavorful, full of mushrooms, chicken and cilantro as well as the aromatic flavors of lemongrass. Served in a fiery hot pot, it really hit the spot on such a cold night. My bf loved the papaya salad, he said it was flavorful with just the right amount of heat. The pad see ewe was pretty good, the flat rice noodles a little over cooked, but the Chinese broccoli perfect (not too overdone, so they have a nice bite to them). The friend won tons were good, and my daughter and I gobbled them up (10 to an order with nice pricing). My daughter and I also ordered Thai iced teas... a small size, which I felt were pretty big and I lived that they didn't fill the entire cup with ice! A small is a sufficient amount. This establishment also carries a liquor license and they serve a nice selection of beers. I'm very picky and compare everything to my two favourite Thai restaurants. My husband and I have eaten here a few times and ordered "to go" many times. We've tried so many different menu items and always enjoyed the food. I love the Yellow Curry Chicken and Pad Thai the best! Great spot for Thai food. The service was quick and the food was not expensive at all. It's a really small shop but we were always quickly seated whenever we came. Came here for lunch and liked their lunch special deals. My friend also really enjoyed the soup that they serve at lunch. I tried the pad kee mao here. It actually goes by a different name here that I can't remember so for a second I thought they didn't serve it, which made me sad, but then I asked the server and she reassured me that they did in fact have it :) it was so tasty and fresh!
