For over two years, since 2019, several good friends and I have gathered monthly, on the 4th Thursday, at Simone on Sunset. We always sit outdoors on the patio, and enjoy dinner and drinks. We have been there on cold rainy nights, huddled under the umbrellas, when no one else was on the patio. We liked the patio because some of us could have a smoke if we chose, and the staff was always good about bringing us ash trays. However, last night, Thursday, October 28, 2021, all that took an abrupt turn. Four of us found a place to sit on the patio, although it was crowded with fair-weather customers, because of the fair weather. Remember, we are there every month in fair weather or foul. Before we ordered our meals, a couple of us were having a smoke, when the manager approached us and asked if we would move to the benches in the parking lot, because someone on the patio had complained about the smoke. I understand that some people do not like tobacco smoke. But, why would they choose to eat in the outdoor smoking area of a restaurant, when they could easily sit inside? Rather than complain, we moved to the benches in the parking lot. After over two years of faithful patronage of Simone on Sunset, we will not be back. read more

I love this place! Perfect place for a date or catching up with friends after a long day at work. They have several specials during the week on drinks and food. They didn't have the largest selection on red wines for my taste but they had a good selection of whites that we'll have to go back and try We tried their duck pizza with goat cheese and it was fire! Simone on Sunset is a quaint little bar off the beaten path in Rice Village. If it hadn't been for the Christmas lights handing out front, I would have totally passed it up. I came here with some friends after dinner. We were looking for a cool chill spot to hang out. It wasn't crowded at all. There were more people on the patio than inside. Worst experience ever!! Sat at a table and the waitress informed us that there would be a reservation coming in 30 minutes. My friend said can we just buy the table space. She left, got our drink order, we continued with the evening. She came back and said they are coming. We said fine we will move to the bar. Came back and stated that they were there. Again, fine give us the check. The check had a few of $50 for holding the table!!! We asked for an owner or manager. Would give it five stars but think that the service could be improved and was not consistent overall. I hate to be the one to leave a bad review, but the service was so bad I just can't help it. First off, I ordered two different cocktails and each were prepared wrong. I ended up with water-downed drinks that had no flavor at all. From the reviews, I would imagine I could get a decent cocktail and not just have to drink wine, but no. The young girl that made my drinks didn't seem like she knew what she was doing and it didn't help that I saw her add water to top of my first drink. Secondly, I decided to order a pizza while here. Obviously, based off of the menu I went with the duck pizza which included pear, caramelized onions, and bleu cheese. The waiter did inform us that they were out of pears and would use apple instead, which wasn't a big deal. Upon receiving this pizza I noticed that there wasn't any onions, the duck was overcooked (it had the texture of overcooked brisket), and they did not use bleu cheese, It was definitely parmesan. The food, I must say, was very disappointing. Not sure why just a little extra effort is not made for example to make everything fresh rather than server store bought chips! The website does a semi good job explaining where you can/can't park but you may opt for street parking to avoid getting towed. Its a great place for couples, girls or hanging out in groups. There's also bar seating with several TVs. Our server introduced us to a new cocktail with cucumber vodka, which was really good considering I don't like cucumbers or the smell lol We each ordered the steak Medium-Well and sides of potatoes. One of my classmates picked this spot for graduation happy hour this week. I've never been but heard good things about it. This place has a good set of happy hour specials, and different food on special every day. The atmosphere is cozy, great for a first date. In fact, I had arrived early, as is my habit, and people watched. I witnessed a first date happen. They left together, assuming it was a win. Tinder bro picked a good spot. The lighting is soothing, not glaring. The artwork is pretty cool. Some have tabs underneath, I assume for sale but don't hold me to it. I saw a dear on the wall (painting) that I wanted to own. I like to call this one of Rice Villages best kept secrets. The good thing is that you'll never have to worry about Simone's being too crowded. It's a petite bar, not meant to be crowded. Has off street parking with a few extremely small lots (house driveways) that allow Simone's patrons to park in.. Just look for the signs. Keep in mind, you are only allowed to park along the side of the street that Simone's is on. (I'm sure those tow trucks at the Valero next door are anxiously awaiting their next victim.) They have great happy hour specials that go on til 8! They have a one page menu of light bites and pizzas. This is bold but.. they have some of the best specialty drinks I've ever had. I'm not the type to choose from a specialty cocktail menu, but when I do, I never go wrong with what I order. My most favorite recent drink is The Moscow Mule. OH muh guh it's so good (if you absolutely adore ginger then you should love this drink.) It's served in a mule and by the end of the night, I was drinking as if it were a goblet. Cradle of life is an oldie but goodie.. I still get a kick out of watching them make it. Lemon lovers should def order this. This is my type of sit back, have a drink and a conversation environment. They have a cutie little patio with twinkle lights for your date. They have a new room in the back for a bit more lounge space. I love this bar any time, any day of the week. What a cute, cute place! I didn't go for happy hour or late night, so I don't know what the crowd is like then. I stopped by with a friend on a Sunday early afternoon, after we had just endured several hours of a kiddie bounce house birthday party, and we REALLY needed a drink to decompress. Cue the baby sitters, and we were on our way for a good time. There were only a few other tables occupied, and a few people at the bar, but a surprising number of patrons for a Sunday afternoon. The bartender was super friendly, and the room in the back was very cozy and comfortable. The specialty cocktails were good, and their beer and wine selections were also ample. STEAK NIGHT ON THURSDAYS! Came with some friends after work because we'd been craving steak. We heard great reviews about this place and man... They were definitely not wrong! The location is a bit hard to find, it's on a street that's lined with houses that have been turned into home businesses. They don't have a sign that you can see right away (we went at night and almost couldn't find it at all), so look for a giant black "BRIAN WHITE ATTORNEY" sign! That's where the restaurant is. Park there, or across the street at the house with the "additional Simone parking" sign up on their tree. The restaurant itself is really cool! Dim lights, dark atmosphere, candles at every table, menus written in chalk... Kind of has an Austin-hipsterish feel to it. Lots of high table tops with high chairs, lower table seating, and a bar in the middle of the room. There's a second room attached to the main room as well that has more tables/benches and also a big couch-lounge area, and the patio outside has more seating too. For steak night you can order either a 6oz steak wrapped in bacon, or a 12 oz ribeye. Both come with two sides you don't really get to pick cuz they're subject to change each week. The sides that came with ours this time were grilled sweet potato slices and half a grilled onion+vegetables. The onion and veggies were DELICIOUS. Grilled just perfectly and very lightly seasoned. It complemented my rib eye so well! Usually "healthy" doesn't taste all that great, but these veggies... Man oh man they made healthy so easy to eat! And the ribeye itself was AMAZING. They cooked my medium rare just right, and it didn't need any A1 sauce at all! My first time eating a steak with no A1 sauce! If you look around, there are paintings of a woman all over the restaurant... Not sure if that's Simone or not... But I plan to find out when I go back again! I had been hearing some good things about this place so I decided to check it out for myself. The night was cool and I wanted a place with a nice patio out to catch up with some old friends. I literally drove past this place a few times before finally deciding to just park and look for it on foot. I kept thinking it was just a house in my car but on foot you can hear the music, which still made me think it was a house party, but as you get closer you realize the bar is a small cute joint nestled in between a few other businesses. The patio area is just as nice as the pictures show, inside it's very welcoming. The waitress was attentive, on top of our drinks. I think they are still a bit new because some of the specialty cocktails seemed to take them a bit to look over the ingredients. They did come out fast and tasted great. My only complaint is the price, but then again that's what you get when you're at a specialty cocktail bar. read more

Simone on Sunset is such a cute little wine bar in West U. It has a cool relaxed vibe with eclectic decor inside, and an adorable outside area. We came for happy hour one weekday and sat in the backroom, which is the best area in my opinion. We both had glasses of wine and split the Brie and Caramelized Onion with Crustini, both which were delicious. The biggest con is there is minimal parking, but they do have valet (but only Thursday-Saturday). Simone on Sunset is a great place to unwind after a long day during the week. read more

What a great place! I went on a Friday night, which ironically had a relaxing ambiance. A once quaint home now turned into this venue on Sunset and Morningside created a tone of intimacy. I have been a tacit reviewer on Yelp for over a year and this place brought me out of hiding. I am always moved with cool art and to my pleasant delight there was a striking piece on the concrete floor along with some alluring paintings throughout coupled with dim lighting. What mostly turned me on was Massive Attack and LCD Soundsystem tracks playing in the background. That alone captivated my attention. I ordered a bottle of Prosecco and some blue cheese fries for munchies. Unfortunately, the Prosecco was not chilled so we had to wait. But with all there was to enjoy in that moment, I remained patient. This was a 30s and up crowd. What made this the most enjoyable is you could have good conversations, good munchies, and drinks without the usual expected roar from a Friday night congregation. The patio was gorgeous, but it had been raining that day so we sat inside, but that will definitely be next to experience. The parking was a little tricky and the bartender stated you could park on the residential streets sorrounding Sunset. Just as a FYI. I will be back and definitely recommend this place. Absolutely dig this little gem. It's tucked away in a neighborhood in Rice Village on Sunset Street. So if you blink you may miss it. I have been here a number of times and it's my go to hang out/ neighborhood bar. What I love the most is there is an outdoor patio, drinks and food are on point, and the staff is friendly. They offer fresh grapefruit juice which is #1 on my drink list. I love a Tito's vodka and fresh grapefruit cocktail any day. Sabrina is super sweet and even offered for me to try the grapefruit Deep Eddy's infused vodka with soda. Score! Now one of my fav's. Wine selection is good here as well. I have only had the truffle fries for food here which were great. I need to try their menu out next time. The staff is really friendly and helpful. The manager Sabrina is my fav here! The patio area is very cute as is the indoor area. I have gone here a few times with coworkers as a pretty reliable place to have fun and enjoy drinks and food. I think the food is pretty good, but overall a little overpriced. The artichoke dip was pretty tasty. We went on a burger night and that was also pretty good as well. I think to get to 5 stars, it would help for a price adjustment, easier parking, and maybe a little bit better location (in my humble opinion). The ambiance is cute, cozy, casual and trendy, all of them at the same time! There is a modern jukebox for you to choose the music of the place, which accepts credit cards! It is not too loud inside, so I could talk to my friend super comfortably without raising my voice. Inside, there are a few couches, a few tall tables which can be brought together to accommodate a larger group, another room for private parties if you want! Outside, there are tables. Take advantage of the great weather these days to stay enjoy the outdoors there! The really big downside is the parking. This place is in a neighborhood between businesses built-in houses, looking like a residential house in the day time and transforms itself in a wine bar after work. But they are aware of this problem, which is probably why they listed where to and not to park on their website. Don't forget to read it before leaving your car ! Their popcorn is de-li-ciouuuus!! Lots of parmesan, lots of popcorn ! Huge bowl enough for two (or all for myself if I was to take it home and have it with a dramatic romantic movie..). Their drinks are very well prepared too!
