Simone is like a wine bar that is located in Rice Village. However, you don't find it on the main strip that's why I love this place. I been to this place many many times. Their happy hour is great. I always sit outside on their nice outdoor patio in the front. I usually go their to relax before going to other bars in rice village. I like the atmosphere and their Happy hours special. They have good happy hour specials. $5 glass of house wine, or $20 house bottle. They have different kind of specials so check their website. Absolutely loved my first time here. Took my girlfriend to Simone for her birthday treat back in April 2021, as well as to have girly time. I made a reservation at 4pm and we parked our cars across. The place is cute and quaint. I love the decor inside. Very colorful and eclectic. A lot of seating areas inside and outside. There's also a private room available if you want to host a party. We were seated by the wine display and ordered a bunch of food. The prices were decent and service was fast, friendly and personable! The staff were so nice and knowledgeable. Food quality is great as well as drinks! We were even treated to a free cocktail since it was my girlfriend's birthday! Definitely will come back! Really disappointed with the service. Didn't even get to try the food. Went on a Tuesday evening. Was not busy when we got there, but they only had one bartender and one server taking care of multiple tables inside and outside. It took our server about 20 minutes to even greet us at our table and ask for our drink order. We immediately ordered food at the same time as ordering our drinks. If you like good service, then this is not the place for you. The level of service provided does not match the price that you are paying for food/drinks. If I'm going to pay $17 for a cocktail or $25 for a pizza, I do not want to be ignored during my first experience here. My girlfriend and I did not receive any check ups until we were ready to pay. We were greeted by one server for drinks/food, but after that she disappeared and never checked up on us. We went a full 1 hour of no service/2 min bite check after our apps and entree. We did not know who our server was. Funny enough, the tables around us received a lot of service because they complained about the long wait while the server had their back turned to us. We understand kitchen can get busy and didn't complain when French fries took 30 mins to come out. It wasn't until after we done with our meal and I was obviously looking around for help that we were receiving some attention from a different server/hostess. She was not very friendly and sounded very upset when I brought up being charged regular prices vs happy hour. I think the cherry on top was their suggested tip on the bottom of the receipt. 20% - 35%. I've worked the fine dining industry for awhile now. If I'm being charged high prices, I expect a higher level of service than what most restaurants provide. Great patio! It looks very popular, most tables were reserved. I had a nice glass of pinot noir. We were just meeting for a drink so were able to sit at a table that had been reserved for 10 at 8pm. We arrived about 6pm, bartender was attentive. Patio server was a bit confused. She brought a bill not sure for what since we had ordered at the bar and the bartender had the credit card. Disappointed is such an understatement for our experience. We came based on the great images and reviews of the salmon, scallops. However, they do not serve these dishes everyday and there is no mention of a selected menu anywhere. This place has horrible service and management with below par food. FOOD: The chicken meatballs were hard on the outside and could not be cut easily even with a knife but then undercooked on the inside. When we brought this to the managers attention, the response was "we've been serving these all night without an issue". I mentioned it is possible that mine were undercooked even if they were prepped as a batch. He stated they are also cooked as a batch earlier that afternoon. It was 9pm at night. Did he really just admit that they served me chicken that was cooked HOURS ago!?!?!? HE DID. No wonder the outside is so tough, they either refry or heat them right before serving. My stomach has been acting up the next morning. SERVICE: -upon entering there is no where to check in despite having a reservation - I asked someone at the bar who should I speak with and he said he'd send someone over to me Just stand at the door - no one greeted me, I eventually found a waitress walking around - waited over 15 minutes to be greeted, then was not checked on throughout the experience - saw a friend on the way out who said "oh the service is always bad here, but that's not what we come for" - couches are unclean with stains everywhere. Changing couch covers would be sanitary and appreciated Pros: It's a decent option for a chill vibe and the specialty cocktails we had were good. There are multiple subsections that make it nice for a date or a good chat with some friends. All in all, I was so underwhelmed by this place. If you go, just know what to expect which is very little. Your company will likely be the best part of your experience...at least that was the case for me. Wow! New owners and new menu. I was impressed with the food in particular. The simosas were like any other I had and were served with fresh cucumber sauce with a hint of spice. I tried the meat one s (lamb, fish, and chicken) but they also have vegan. You also MUST try the truffle popcorn. Seriously addicting and topped with fresh melted cheese. Maybe even better than truffle fries. They did not skimp on the truffle oil. And if you like raw food you MUST try the beef carpaccio, seriously amazing and high quality ingredients, especially the olive oil. I will be back for sure. Fun vibe too! read more

I had friends visiting from out of the country and wanted to take them to a nice, small restaurant to eat and have some wine. This was my first trip to Simone on Sunset, and needless to say, my last. The website looks beautiful, but that is not the reality. First, we we were brought water in plastic cups! You had to scan the bar code to get the menu, which is fine, but for my guests that don't read English well, ordering took some time and patience. The waitstaff was young and inexperienced. The waitress stoped by to refill our water every now and then, after the plastic cups were empty. They spent more time socializing that waiting on customers. There was only one other group sitting down eating, so it wasn't busy. There were more people drinking at and around the bar than who were dining for dinner. I had to go to the bar and ask for our check when it was time to leave. Sitting at the table, staring at the empty plates and plastic cups was not a sign to the waitstaff that we needed their attention. The atmosphere was loud and obnoxious! It was difficult to carry on a conversation at our table. We were hoping to go out and enjoy a nice dinner and stay for a couple glasses of wine, but we ordered simple pizzas, drank our water from the plastic cups, then left as soon as we could. The pizza was surprisingly good (didn't expect that when compared to the other issues). The place has a lot of potential, but don't let the website fool you. Whew, where do I start?! This place should be lucky to get 1 star from me. Simone on Sunset has been on my list for it's whimsical patio appearance but that changed at a whim! For starters, the patio could use some sprucing: rusted furniture, creaky awnings, unstable tables & chairs rocking back and forth; it looked like a decorated trailer park. Also, fighting squirrels, the restaurant tends to feed. Two squirrels started tussling on the patio, when staff was notified, the waitress casually stated, "Oh, that's just Simone. " And proceeds to bring a plate of mix nuts to feed her. No wonder the squirrels are tussling! Why are you feeding the squirrels, let alone on the patio furniture, where guests are served, using plates that guests use. At least do it in the back and use a dog bowl or something. We proceeded to order two drinks & shrimp for the both of us (which was misspelled on the menu, by the way). After receiving the drinks, and waiting patiently for our food, the waitress informed us that the gas went out & it'd be 15 mins before the issue was to be fixed. She offered a free appetizer or drink. We took another drink since it was the best thing this place had to offer. Time went by, and she reassured the gas had been fixed and the shrimp would be out in 5 mins ....15 mins later, still no shrimp. By this time, the gas man is still there, and another waitress told us they thought the issue was fixed, but it's not. Before she could finish her sentence, the other waitress came behind her to confirm, yet again, the gas was fixed and the shrimp would be out in 5 mins...20 mins, still no shrimp. After two drinks & a water, I needed a restroom break. Of course, not the cleanest restroom & no paper towels/anything to dry your hands. As I was taking my seat, my guest & I noticed a to go order walk pass us. How does the to go order get their food before us and we've been here since they've opened at 4pm?! 10-15 more minutes, we're STILL waiting on shrimp. When asked about the food, the waitress said it was being plated. The shrimp breading had absolutely no seasoning, I literally peeled it off just to get to the shrimp. The dipping sauce didn't help, again no season or flavor to add to the shrimp. We waited all this time for this?! Keep in mind, this is a Monday. At most, probably 4-5 ppl in this entire establishment. Hella empty. This should've been a free ticket for the inconvenience & time wasted. I even apologized to my friend for bringing her to Simone on Sunset because it was such a disappointment & embarrassment. Reservations at 4:00pm, left at 7:15pm...for 2 drinks & some shrimp! On a Friday night, we were bar hopping in the area and stumbled upon Simone on Sunset. Since we walked, I'm not sure what the parking situation is but the bar is in a residential area, so your best bet is probably street parking. As you walk in, Simone has a patio area with some cool lights. We decided to hang out inside instead, though. Simone is a wine bar so they have an extensive wine list. We were celebrating my friend's birthday, so I bought a bottle of prosecco. The vibe inside is nice with dim lights and a good amount of seating. The pictures and TikTok videos definitely oversell this place. To start, the scene is not what it appears to be on social media. Call me shallow, but it's what sold us in the first place. We reserved a table and when we arrived, we were sat in a typically "closed" party area that had bare walls, and basic high top tables with chairs that you would typically find at a hole in the wall pool hall, and we were set away from the main part of the restaurant. Eventually I went and found a server in the main area and asked why we were placed in a very cold secluded area. The response was that those tables had reservations. I explained that I also had reservations so I was unclear as to why we were set in such an area that almost appeared as if it was still in the "construction and decoration phase" away from everyone. After I was told "this table is reserved for the managers friends" and I made a "ahhh I see" face, it was then that what appeared to be the "host" approached us (she was very friendly) and moved us to that very same table. The service might be the worst part of it, as my friends and I waited for everything. Waters left empty until we could finally get someone's attention. Wine orders took a while with our previous drinks were left empty. The food was mediocre at best, and I did offer opinions when asked by the server. At the end of our meal when it was time to pay is when we saw the server the most. However we had multiple items of food unfinished that we wanted to take home, and after signing our receipts and finally asking another employee, did we finally receive one box. We then ordered food and it took 30-45 min for that and when we got it there was hair in it..... this happens to the best of us, not the biggest deal After this, I ordered a glass of wine which also took 20 more min. (Every round took at least 20min. We got 3 drinks) At the end of everything we got our tab in which was completely wrong and we had to wait another 20-30 min for them to figure out what was wrong. After paying and leaving we then had to come back because the amount we signed off on was different than what we where charged in our account. When coming back to ask they told us they no longer had the signed check and showed us what items we where charged for and we left. I hope this is not typically the service here and I am all for supporting new spots (especially such pretty ones like this) but this was an interesting experience. I like this little neighborhood bar. Its also bigger than I thought it would be. Its located on Sunset two blocks from Kirby. Its easy to miss, but coming from Kirby its on the left side. I went on a Saturday night. It wasn't packed, but thats how I like it. We had whatever was the house riesling was and one of the cheese tray. (omg I love a cheese tray) They have an outdoor seating area, a bar and indoor tables as well. The waitress told us that Thursday Night is Steak Night and the place is packed. The grilled chicken is decent/ They don't tell you what veggies come with it or that they are going to bbq on it (I don't care for BBQ. Came for brunch at 11:30 on a Sunday, I would not recommend coming at this time if you're looking for brunch. They open at 11, so valet and staff wasn't set up yet as we were the first ones in. Parking situation was hard to figure out bc there is none up front or a parking lot, so we parked on a side street and walked over which was fine as the streets surrounding weren't busy. The space is medium sized, with a couple of different rooms. There is a nice outdoor patio in the front that's great for nice weather. The house red that night was decent and I believe it was super reasonable like $5 a glass. The ambience is everything! The little courtyard area in the front is so adorable with the décor and plants. We opted to sit inside, the lighting was just dim enough to keep you feeling private, yet not pitch dark. There were two gentleman who helped us, maybe both bartenders or maybe one was the manager? They were very nice and recommended some food items but unfortunately my friend and I had a really late lunch. I've started coming here for drinks after long days spent focusing on nothing other than surviving until tomorrow. Simone's on Sunset is one of the places that keeps me on solid ground, where I can breathe and aim the arrow that is the trajectory of my life into the future. Since I was a teenager, I've never been able to plot my path into the future, the idea of even being alive in 20 or 30 years was impossible, at least it seemed like it was, 30 years ago. Now that I'm here at Simone's (great meatballs on Wednesdays, by the way), wifeless and kidless, I can't imagine myself anywhere else. The murky anonymity that the bar at Simone's offers allows me be carefree and talk about my divorce to others without the fear of being known, insides turned out in vulnerability. Yet the beacon that is Elena, your bartender, yanks me out of that ocean of loneliness, and she listens so intently to me talk about my divorce. She makes great drinks too and was the first and only person to compliment my new argyle fedora. The marrow that my ex-wife sucked from my bones upon our divorce is reinstated every time I have a Brambleberry Smash made by Elena. Her poise and the timbre of her voice speak of the sure-fire arrow she's loosed, with all of us being spectators watching that arrow fly past us and pierce a future we lack the ability to imagine. I've been here a total of 4 times. Last 2 times, the service had been horrendous. Today, we were the only party in the restaurant. The server came only twice to our table the entire 3 hours we were there. There was food stuck on the silverware, when we informed the staff they seemed annoyed by it. They misunderstood a drink order and said they'd have to charge in order to fix it- while admitting their server is new so she probably was not clear. I went for Thursday Steak Night and Simone was super busy! The inside was packed but we were able to find a table on the patio. Our waiter brought out some slips of paper for us to write down what we wanted. There was a choice between the $15 Chicken or $18 12 oz Ribeye because they ran out of $20 Bacon Wrapped Filets before 8pm. I ordered the free Truffle Popcorn from checking in on Foursquare and the Ribeye. They brought out cups the size of Dixie Cups and a pitcher of water for our table. We had to keep refilling our water because they were so tiny but it seemed like all the other tables had larger cups. The Truffle Popcorn was delicious - like Truffle Fries except instead of fries there was popcorn! The steak wasn't as flavorful as the steak I had at Maple Leaf Pub's Steak Night. There wasn't any fat and it needed more flavor. I asked our waiter for salt and pepper and he never brought it out. He disappeared and by the time I saw him again, I had already finished my meal. It was also hard to get our waiter's attention to refill our pitcher of water so I was pretty thirsty throughout my meal. Our waiter gave us our check and he included the Truffle Popcorn even though I had mentioned the free Foursquare deal. We told him and he fixed it and we spent a while trying to figure out how much everyone owed. I would not recommend sitting on the patio. The ambience and music were nice but the service was pretty terrible. I didn't get bit by mosquitos but they provided insect repellant. The lighter didn't work so it was really dark because nobody was able to light the candles on their table. One of the waiters asked the other to turn the lights on the patio on but he didn't seem to know how so it remained dark. I think he must have been newly hired. My sister did some research on their website beforehand to see where we could park. We parked on the street behind the restaurant and walked over. It wasn't too difficult to find parking. I would not recommend Simone for Steak Night. It was alright but there are better Steak Nights in Houston. read more

I came here last night to meet a group off friends and really enjoyed the food, ambiance and wait staff. We ordered all the share items... the beef meatballs, chicken meatballs, the chicken lollipops and the signature shrimp. They were all very good and flavorful. The chicken meatballs were a little spicy but still enjoyable. We also split a filet mignon and a rib eye. Both were cooked as requested and delicious. We also had a number of their signature drinks.
