Not many place were open in town all day during the weekdays (like a Monday) but I'm glad we stumbled upon this location for some yummy quality food. I had the french onion soup with a red chili zucchini noodles bowl and the man had a burger. Super yummy and I'm so glad they have very healthy options. All the staff were extremely friendly and I hope the lady who just bought a house w her hubby is doing well. I'm not good with names but she was very friendly and was able to talk to us about local Asian food options. BTW, iced tea was nicely brewed too. Went for Anniversary dinner with my wife. Bread sampler Appetizer was great, beer was inexpensive and quality. Entree got messed up by the kitchen. Like, way WAY messed up. HOWEVER--shift manager James, when alerted to the mistake, made appropriate apologies, and far more importantly *asked how to make it right*. Wife and I answered, and James made it happen at speed. Fast casual spot with lots of options for kids and adults, both herbivore and omnivore. The house made cheddar rosemary bread used for some of their sandwiches is so soft and delicious. You can buy a loaf for $8. When we dined in, they had a bison ravioli with a lemon sage cream sauce that was ahhhhmazing. It was so good I requested we go back the following day, lol. Kids meals are $5 for 1 item or $9 for 2 items and there are a lot of choices from salads, soups, sandwiches or pasta. Their steak stroganoff also deserves a worthy mention because it was also really good. Would definitely go back! My only gripe is that there is a roped line in to order, but no designated space for people to exit. We were constantly having to move aside to let people who were trying to exit cut back through the line coming in. I actually think people were supposed to exit through the outdoor seating area (not the front entrance), but of course people did not... super annoying. Hopefully it's something they can fix. I don't think this place was open last year, but we just loved it! They've converted an enormous, very old warehouse-type building into two autonomous businesses--a clothing shop and diner. (I got half price on a great Kavu daypack.) The shop closed as we were ordering dinner (they put up a huge fence around all the merchandise). The owners of Simple Eatery are very friendly and the atmosphere is fun. My friend and I ordered the Brie & chicken panini with the (seasonal) Jicama cilantro salad - both were delicious! The portions may be small for men but the it was nice how the price was modest. A very nice touch was seeing a carafe of cucumber water already on the table when we sat down. You are in Denver and head into the Rockies, you do need to eat and you are in for a treat if you stop in Buena Vista at the Simple Eatery around 7000 ft in elevation. It has a bakery and a great menu with some sporty little micro brews. I had a loaf of pretzel bread for an appetizer and an Elk Burger with a side of Broccoli Cheese soup. I set it off with a glass of their Coconut Stout. I didn't have room to take advantage of the deserts from the Ice cream machines or the bakery, but I bet it would have been amazing. If you're looking for light and fresh food in Buena Vista, it is definitely worth ordering takeout/curbside delivery from Simple Eatery! The curbside takeout experience felt very organized and safe. For our meal, we shared chips and salsa - the salsa (red) tasted freshly made and was very mild. I had a half portion of the Basil Pesto Primavera ($9) and added on grilled salmon for $5 - the pesto was light and lemony, and the variety of vegetables kept the pasta from being too heavy but was still filling. The salmon was well-seasoned and cooked perfectly (not dry at all). My husband had the Elk Burger (his first time eating elk) based on previous reviews and enjoyed it - he felt that the meat wasn't too gamey and liked that it was on a pretzel bun and topped with caramelized onions. This place is so cute and cool!! They have a little outdoor wear/gear shop inside the cafe; which I thought was awesome. The patio area has a pretty view of the mountains and has nice lights that make for a really nice dinner. The staff was very helpful (and friendly) in making suggestions since it was our first time and the food was all SO GOOD. I want to visit Buena Vista again just to eat here. The Bison Ravioli (with marinara) was amazingly delicious. Easily the best I've had. All the flavors worked really well together. My only complaint was that the ravioli clumped together in groups of 2. Otherwise the flavors were so on point I didn't mind. Elk Burger, Tomato Soup and Bread Samplers were all pretty delicious as well. It was a very casual place with friendly service. Variety of foods and great for lunch or afternoons while walking around the stores of Buena Vista main Street. Their bakery is top-notch and the pretzel bread and green chili cheese bread are worth the drive alone. We come down from Fairplay frequently and we stop here every time. Friendly staff and the eating area is clean. The restrooms are clean also which in my book is a big plus. I posted a photo of the chicken salad sandwiches. Opened April 2015. I'm a huge fan. The bread was so good on my panini that I even ate the crust (not normal) and got more to go before I left. I forced myself to get half a panini and a salad because salad is healthy... I figured the salad would be meh. How pleasantly surprised I was. One of the best salads I've ever had (it was the seasonal salad with arugula, pears, oranges, pine nuts, goat cheese, and a light citrus dressing). Delicious Meyer lemonade with fresh berries. Bravo! Stopped here on the way to Steamboat. We were looking for a place to park on Main Street and we randomly parked right in front. The menu is straight forward and simple. The space is large and open and also has a mountaineering store called the Trailhead connected to the Eatery. Overall, the place is lovely and the food quite tasty. My sons and I had the chicken club sandwich on a pretzel bun and it was fabulous. My wife enjoyed a soup and salad. They also have a huge kid friendly patio. Place is great and we'll definitely stop by when we're back in town! Highly recommend!!!! read more

When the sandwiches were delivered to the table, SURPRISE - they had picked all the onions out for me!!! Who does that!!?! Wooo hooo! We are planning on swinging by again later this week to get different sandwiches or pasta. They are only open until 7pm, so plan on an early dinner. Outside of the novelty of the fro-yo self-serve wall, and its co-location with the recreational clothing store, I was less than impressed by the "flow" of this place. The folks taking your order at the counter don't function with Starbucks efficiency, but the crowds are Starbucks-like. When you offer the complexity of coffee-bar alongside a fully customizable food menu, you cannot expect customers to settle on their orders without time-consuming discussions. That's why "counter orders" for a la carte menu items fails as a model here. This model is just wrong for a complex menu with multiple items. The choices are beyond easy comprehension from a handout menu (in fact the owner was having individual, random discussions with customers in line to annotate their menu). It leaves customers waiting in line with ambiguous, custom orders. It's no fun to come in hungry and be milling around in a queue for a good 15 minutes, with shoppers looking for bikini bottoms and dresses hovering around. Add to that the menu on the wall is way too illegible and small; it's really annoying to stand in line squinting trying to see what they have. The result is that wait lines are long while servers at the till are making pleasant conversation and having discussions about menu items with customers -- more suited to the table-side setting than an ordering line. It's just wrong. I would rather they have a more streamlined ordering process with limited menu. The food I got was fine, but portions were on the small side. I felt I got better value at House Rock Kitchen. My friend's color-changing spoon was rather cool. Check out their fro-yo. read more

Cool spot was busy with folks dining in as I picked up my to-go order. Everything was timely and the service (as others have said) was friendly and on point. The tomato bisque soup was amazing as was the pretzel bread appetizer. I got a kids grilled cheese to have with my soup and that was just okay. It wasn't on challah bread as described and the bread was grilled a little burnt. Husband had the bison burger which was not his fav and his side of broccoli cheese soup was thin/watery and lacked the flavors to keep you coming back for more. I would definitely go eat here again.
