My friend and I both got one of the red curry options and both were quite tasty. I am more familiar with their mild yellow curry offering and have a difficult time with foods that are too spicy. It was plainly stated that the red curry had more heat, but I decided to try it anyway. So it was my fault that I was quickly reaching for my water after the first bite. The waiter soon checked in with us and I explained that the dish was delicious, but a little spicy for my palate. He suggested that he could have the cook fix it by adding a bit more coconut milk, and as quick as a wink, had my dish "fixed" and returned to me. I definitely recommend this restaurant. The food and service are excellent. Ambiance is quaint. Hint: The indoor seating is limited, so I recommend making reservations if going on a weekend. read more

Thai is usually my go to food genre when I'm feeling for Asian food. I have to say that I'm "VERY" disappointed in "ALL" the entrees ordered. Pad Thai tasted like nothing, but fried oil salt noodles. Missing that tangy taste. Texture and color was there, but I would say that this is the most disappointing Pad Thai in 25 years of my life eating out. Gyoza even tasted salty, and the flavor just wasn't good period. I had to dip it into the egg roll sweet dip sauce to enjoy it just a little. Ordering teriyaki chicken was a huge mistake. It tasted over cooked (dehydrated meat), and the sauce wasn't teriyaki. Too salty! We had some tofu and veggie and rice, and pork and noodles. My meal was on the cold side. We both found the food bland but the service and restaurant was nice and clean. The server was very friendly and said it was a family business. Maybe we will try again and see how we like it, and ask for more spice. There are countless numbers of Thai restaurants in the Elk Grove area. My friends and I decided to give Simply Thai a try last night since we were in the neighborhood. The location is a little hidden as it's in the corner of the plaza, near 24 Hour Fitness. The restaurant is on the smaller side and had a very homey feel to it. We ordered the Red Curry with shrimp, and Papaya Salad. The curry was very flavorful, with just the right amount of sweetness, and a little kick to it. It's very different from all the curries I've tried previously at other restaurants because the consistency was very liquid-y. Other Thai curries are thicker in consistency. But nonetheless, it tasted delicious with the rice. The Papaya Salad was fresh and tasty. Portion sizes can use a little improvement for the pricing. The service was decent. Our server took our orders and refilled our drinks as requested. Towards the end of the night, there was a little dinner rush which slowed down the service a lot, but understandable since she was the only one there. I went in for a quick lunch special, and this place was empty the whole meal. Typically a bad sign, but it may have to do more with this restaurant is way at the end of a shopping center. I had the $7.95 lunch special, which didn't look like anything too unique, but I enjoyed it. I ordered the green chicken curry, and asked for it too not be spicy. The curry had a nice kick, but nothing I couldn't handle. There was an ample amount of meat and vegetables with rice, so overall, a very good and tasty lunch deal. Minor complaint: the eggplant was undercooked. All other veggies were cooked well. Though empty, I hope this business does well. This is probably my favorite dim sum here in san francisco, it is always packed and the customer service is extremely fast. Try to hunt down the guys in the suit which will get your order faster. Bathroom is very clean, the tea is lit under a candle which stays warm. One thing everybody has to watch out is the chinese people here cut alot while waiting, literally coming up from the side and standing there. Older chinese folks dont give a f***. After our third attempt to eat here, we finally found it open for business! Upon entering I found it to be small, but clean inside. The large scenic, tropical wallpaper was an attempt to make you feel like you were in Thailand, maybe, but seemed more Polynesian to me. We settled on a green curry with chicken, mixed vegetables, and rice. Getting green curry was new for us since we were used to ordering yellow. When our dishes arrived, everything looked and smelled good! The green curry was definitely different in taste. Very spicy, but very good! My boyfriend didn't think there was much flavor, but I couldn't understand what he was talking about. He did agree that the vegetables were delicious though. After reading past reviews, it seemed that more women enjoyed the food than the men. It made me wonder if there were some magical or special ingredient present that the women's taste buds were affected by! Could be an interesting science experiment if that were the case! Hubs really likes this place. Whenever we're in Elk Grove he wants to come here. It's located in a small strip mall at the end. It's a small hole in the wall with a mom pop feel to it. This place has your typical Thai food items and all the fixings. We really like the tom kha soup. I like to order pad thai whenever I go to a Thai restaurant. I judge Thai restaurants based on this dish because it's something all these places offer. The pad thai was pretty decent. It doesn't make my top 5 list, but it's not bad either. We've yet to try any of their curry dishes, maybe next time. Hubs also liked their spicy eggplant. This is a nice place and people should come here more often. Ordered the Chicken Pad Kra Pao and Chicken Pad Thai. I really wanted some ka-poon or ka-soy but settled for Thai. When I got home and opened my food I think they messed up on my pad kra pao order. Where's the basil and the diced chicken? Not sure which plate this is but it has bamboo, bell peppers, and sliced chicken. The overall taste of this dish was bland so of course I added some sriracha bc sriracha makes everything taste better. The pad Thai was a little sour (and I didn't squeeze lemon on it). The noodles are a little thicker than I am use to. Most pad Thai at other restaurants the pad Thai noodles are thinner. Unless you are super hungry and preggos I would say probably go down a little further Elk Grove and head to Saibaidee. I will give it another try for the pad kra pao since I didn't get to try that dish and I'm not about to drive 5 miles to exchange my dish. It'll make do for dinner. Dropped by for a quick snack since I was in the area. Summer rolls were good. The peanut sauce was different than other places, but it was delicious! Veggies were fresh. They have all the dishes I love... Drunken noodles (prepared with fresh noodles, not dry and well separated) with just the right ratio to ingredients. I've only tried this place once years ago when they first opened because my sister had a restaurant.com coupon. I couldn't remember much about it. We were hungry one night and my sister again mentioned that she had another coupon purchased back in 2010 for $25 off of $45. We got to the restaurant around 7:30 and were the only patrons in the restaurant. We were greeted warmly by a gentleman who quickly provided water and menus. We ordered boat noodles, papaya salad, garlic pork, beef salad and pad thai. Our food came out very slowly, one dish at a time. It was literally at least 30 minutes from the time the first dish came out to the last dish. I can only imagine how long the wait would be if there were other patrons. The food was okay but service was good. Biggest disappointment was the garlic pork. It was not the fried crispy pork I was use too. Would probably visit again if I had another coupon. read more

I placed an order for 5pc lumpia, yellow chicken curry and rice the lunch special. When i arrived hime, I've notice my rice portion was a kid portion size and I received egg rolls instead of lumpia. So immediately I called the restaurant and spoke to the same person who I placed the order with and asked why was I given vegetable egg rolls instead of lumpia and the rice portion was clearly a child size portion. She proceeded to say "I gave you 5pc egg roll and the rice in a lunch portion." No apology nothing. I stated i repeated my order to her and asked again why i didnt receive what I ordered. The bottom line is the sub par customer service and giving me something different than what Ive ordered is unacceptable. When i tasted the curry, I was completely taken back on the bland and water consistency of the curry. Ive been eating Thai food long enough to know this was an utter joke. Are used to go here in high school and it was my favorite pad Thai in elk Grove. I went today and it was top five worst lunch experiences i have had. Both mine and my mother's pad thai tastes like ketchup and lime, the noodles were overcooked, not spicy and the egg was burnt. THIS PLACE IS RACIST!!!!!!! Here is a post on Facebook from a good friend of mine. Boycott this place. This story will make you cry. I intentionally waited to write this post. I wanted to take the time to ensure what I wrote was not share passion, but well thought and reasoned out. Plus, it just takes me longer to process my emotions. I lived in Sacramento for seven years, less than 2 miles from "Simply Thai," after Jamaican food Thai is my favorite, so we frequent customers. A friend Invited us over for the Super Bowl. My tax person is in Sacramento, so I decided to come early get my taxes done then enjoy the Super Bowl. After my taxes were completed I was hungry. "Simply Thai" was close so we decided to go there. When we entered the restaurant, it was empty. However, we were assured that they were open, so I ordered tofu mango curry, rice and eggrolls to go. We sat down, talked, laughed, and sang singing silly songs until the food arrived. By the time the food came I was so hungry that I decided to eat some of the food at the restaurant before taking the kids to play at a park. As the server put the food on the table I asked her for peanut sauce. She rolled her eyes at me, "no peanut sauce here," and mumbled something else under her breath, then she darted into the kitchen. I turn to my wife and said, I think she's lying. I've had peanut sauce here in the past. But I am used to people being rude so I shrugged it off. I proceeded to eat the curry and noticed it was chicken not tofu. I eat meat once or twice a year, no big deal, I decided not to say anything and eat the food. As I started to eat the rice my daughter asked me for some. She loved it. I turned to say something to my wife, when I looked back, my daughter's hand was in the rice, plucking a handful off the top and stuffing it into her mouth. I realized she was also hungry and needed a spoon for herself. I looked into the kitchen but didn't see anyone, so I opened the front door of the restaurant, the chime sounded and the server came towards the front of the store. I requested a spoon for my daughter and was told, NO! I asked, "why not?" "You ordered take out, YOU MUST LEAVE!" I try to gain my composure after being hit by the bombshell of those words. I tried to formulate some words but before I could, once again I was told - "LEAVE!" I said, "no, we have a right to eat here. We paid our money and we have a right to eat in the restaurant," and sat down to eat. But better judgment said let's get out of here. Then a thought occurred to me. If you don't want me to eat in your restaurant I don't want your food, give me a refund! But this employee refused to give me a refund. She said she is not Walmart and they reserve the right to refuse service to anyone. I requested to speak to the manager, she said she is the manager. At that point I had enough and left. I have never been treated like that before. This lady was rude and disrespectful. She wanted my money but did not want me in her restaurant. Plus, she did all of this in front of my children. My wife and I have tried to shield our children from such bigotry. Unfortunately, these harsh realities are not from decades' past, these are problems my children are forced to deal with. My instinct is to try and give people the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps she had a bad day. Perhaps she had scar tissue from a previous customer. Yet no scenario give someone the right to treat you like trash. No scenario gives you the right to scar a six-year-old girl and shock a three-year-old boy. No scenario gives you the right to refuse a spoon to a six-year-old girl that has paid for her food. No scenario gives you the right to rob people of their money after you have demeaned them. It makes you wonder why? Why did this happen to me? Why does this continue to happened to me? Was it because of my attire? Blue jeans and a red sweater, no! Was it because I was with a bunch of hooligans? No! I was with my wife and kids. Or was it because of the color of my skin? Was I treated differently just because of who I am. This lady demonstrated the lack of ability to see beyond skin deep. A problem that still plagues our world. This is not simply a black and white issue. It is how we treat people who look different than us, speak a different language than us or pray to a different God than us. We got to treat people better than we do. We must get to a place where people are only judged based upon the content of their character not the color of their skin. But until then I say to anyone who has a conscience, values equality and hates discrimination, don't waste your money at Simply Thai, they don't deserve your hard-earned money.
