I love my nails! Jessica did an awesome job with my holiday red sparkle tips. This time I decided on getting a full set for the season. I also had my brows, upper lip & chin waxed as well. I came in for my appointment for my friend and I on a Sunday afternoon, expecting them to be running late since it was pretty busy in there, but we were seated right away! A third friend also met up with us there as a walk-in, and was also able to be seated right away. We were offered water to drink once we sat down, which was very nice!! I got a gel manicure, and the lady who did my nails was super sweet and gentle with them. My friend got acrylics and was really impressed with the time and care that was put into shaping her nails. They use a new set of buffer/nail file for each customer that they let you keep. This was one of the best services I've experienced at a nail salon! Will be back whenever I'm in the city. read more

sadly disappointed... i have been getting acrylics on and off for the last 10 years. i was really contemplating writing this review yesterday, but as someone who is in the beauty industry i feel the need to share my experience... came here yesterday for a fill since i am in the market for a new nail shop to go to closer to work. love that they are open later than most because i tend to get off between 6 and 9 pm depending on the day. first thing is that the prices on here are NOT what they end up charging you. it was 55$ for a full set with gel. she said it would have been $37(?)!!! for a regular gel manicure on my regular nails... idk why she offered this since i clearly wanted & called for acrylics. i do not mind paying more. my last set was $80. i didn't have enough cash so i did not get my usual ombré pink-white with acrylic. which i am glad i didn't as i probably would have been disappointed paying $70 for the outcome. there is only one woman who does acrylics, she was nice enough, but she was pretty rough the whole time. even though i had asked for a fill, she decided to pry off all my old nails (pretty painfully...) so she could give me a new set. my nails are noticeably uneven/lumpy & thick. the gel is thick & has tiny bumps/bubbles in it. I had to personally ask to wash my hands before she put the gel on.. this is what i'm used to. had i not asked i'm positive the gel would have more of the acrylic dust/bits stuck in it. most of my nails on one hand are significantly shorter than the other... there are clumps of gel UNDER my nails which i have never had happen before. my cuticles hurt, and some of my nails underneath are in a bit of pain. i am not a super picky person, i just enjoy having my nails done even if they're not perfect. i also feel bad writing this review because they were very nice. but there is just too many things i am disappointed with. :( sadly i do not think i will be returning. 2 stars because they were friendly, they are open late, they offer you a beverage, & the BIGGEST plus is they give you your file/buffer block before you leave. read more

I'm really sad to change my review, but unfortunately my nails didn't last too long without cracking and chipping. The top coat is actually peeling off on all nails just after one week. I noticed my nail tech used shellac/gel top coat with a UV instead of the proper SNS dip powder top coat. I thought that was unusual. I've had dip powder nails many times and never saw that type of technique before. It definitely doesn't work and my nails didn't last long. For $55, I expected more. I really wanted to like this salon because of the amazing service, but it makes it hard to come back if they don't know how to make SNS nails last long. Just left and I'm so utterly upset and disappointed, truly wanted to love this spot with it being so close after moving to the neighborhood. I have acrylics and they cut them down so unbelievably low. Nicked my cuticle and nail bed with the file to the point it hurt, is cut up, and inflamed. The acrylic are lumpy and misshapen and not even fully to my nail bed. I'm so unhappy with this that the convenience isnt worth it, I'll be going to my usual spot across town. read more

WORST NAIL EXPERIENCE OF MY ENTIRE LIFE!!! This place is a rip off. They will waste your time and money. I came for the first time two weeks ag and paid $70 for a powder dip manicure. Overpr from what I'm used to, but if she'd have done a good job I'd have been ok with that. One week later my nails were cracking in a marble pattern and chipping away. On top of that, they were breaking my real nails away with them. I called to complain and explained that my normal tech makes them last 3 weeks, the owner said she'd replace the full set for free. I got to the salon yesterday and they refused to replace my set. She said she would only repair two of my nails. 3.5 STARS! Want a cheap mani that lasts for 7+ days in a no-frills environment? Not on time crunch and don't mind waiting even though you have an appointment? If so, Simply Unique Nails is the place to go... SUN is definitely NOT my first or my second choice to go as I enjoy paying a little extra for Customer Service and the Ambiance at Recharge Medical Day Spa and Silk, but it get the job done when I don't have time to go to my top picks on the weekend. First Visit (3 months ago): I opted for the Deluxe Mani which is suppose to come with a Lavender or Peppermint Salt water bath, but it came with neither. The paraffin wax was placed AFTER my nails were painted which caused some paint to melt off and ridges to form. It was so bad, that I requested my manicurist to repaint it although she was very hesitant to. The mani which was suppose to last 30 minutes lasted 1 hour and 50 minutes b/c of the wait time, having to re-do the paint job, and drying time. So much for a quickie mani during lunch. :X After my less than positive first time experience at SUN, I decided to come to give them another chance since I was strapped for time and didn't have time to go to my regulars after work on Friday or Saturday morning. Second Visit (4.22.10): It's been 11 days since my Mani and despite my nail beds starting to show, I just have one chip which I caused from trying to open a bottle cap. That day I was able to make a same-day appt for 2:15 PM. I arrived promptly and still had to wait 25 minutes. I opted for the Basic Mani since the Deluxe Mani didn't go so well last time and I did NOT have another 2 hrs invest esp during a work day. PROCESS: 1. Kelly, my manicurist cleaned off the old polish and asked if I wanted to trim or file it down. I chose to file it down to a square shape. 2. She then pushed my cuticles back, trimmed them, and buffed my nails. 3. Since I told Kelly I had to leave by 3 PM to go back to work, she painted my nails first before the massage. *First coat: Nail polish adhesive *Second coat: Base Coat *Third/Fourth Coat: O.P.I Midnight in Moscow (Dark Burgundy Brown w/ Speckles) *Top Coat 4. Instead of using a brush to wipe off the excess, she used her nails which caused her to scrap some polish from some of the sides of my nails. It wasn't terribly noticeable but noticeable to me nonetheless. 5. Kelly then gave me a hand massage which was very strong and thorough. 6. I then finished drying with a small portable fan for 5 minutes. Overall, the mani was good for the price, despite having some tiny air bubbles and some nail polish being scraped off. SERVICE: The staff is somewhat friendly, but you can't expect much since it's not an upscale spa. Kelly was nice though and tried to strike up a conversation with me throughout my mani. PRICES: *Basic Mani - $12 *Deluxe Mani (Salt Bath and Parrafin Wax) - $18 *Basic Pedi - $25 *Spa Pedi (Salt Bath and Parrafin Wax) - $35 CC's accepted, but they prefer cash tips. COLOR SELCTION: Decent, but not the best. They have higher end brands like O.P.I and Essie, as well as cheapy brands like Orly and ones from Dollar Stores that they hide on the side of the main display case. I couldn't make out what brand of nail adhesive, base coat, or top coat they use, but it didn't look like it was brand name. Yes, I look out for Essie, O.P.I. Nailtiques, and Seche Vite logos. :) AMBIANCE/DÉCOR: Hand painted walls of the beach, Buddha statues and orchid plants surround SUN. There are 5 spa chairs for pedis and 3 tables/chairs for manis which aren't very comfy. They also have a granite bar set-up in the center, which I don't quite get the reason for. PARKING: Difficult, so take public transportation. It's right off the Church Street Station on 14th Street. I'll probably be back, but will have to keep in mind that their mani's don't take 20 minutes since wait times seems to be 15+ minutes even with an appt. So, budget your time accordingly (1 hr for a mani) if you come to SUN. read more

Simple Unique Nails was referred to me by my sister, who is a regular. (She just checked in, which prompted me to finally finish this review I've been holding out on.) During my wedding season, I think I visited this salon about three times and always left happy. (I had gone to a prior salon about a month before visiting Simple Unique Nails and definitely noticed and appreciated the difference in service and work. I went to another salon last week and can definitely notice the difference again!) I started out getting gel nails with a french tip and Jessica was the one who always worked on my hands (although Sabrina has helped out too). One thing that Jessica does really really well is give the greatest hand and arm massages...my eyes practically roll back when she works on them and I think I would probably pay her just to do that if I could! And the mere fact that she remembers that I love them so much, I think she gives me a little extra massage here and there. I also returned twice to get them filled and also to get my pedicure done. The woman who did my pedicure seemed like it was her job to solely do pedicures. I swear she just moved herself from chair to chair working on each girl's feet. At least she does them well! I like how they do the french tip gel fills, unlike another salon that I wasn't sure how they were supposed to do the fill on a french. Everyone is super friendly, professional, and they take care of you. The taking care of you part makes you feel like you're getting pampered, something you hope and expect when getting your nails done. They help you into your pedicure chairs, carry your beverages for you, and pretty much just assist as needed. I don't feel lost at this salon, especially on my first visit. I felt welcomed here. They are definitely busy, especially after work - so make your appointment accordingly! I made an appointment here for 5 gals including myself for a bachelorette party on a Saturday. We each got mani/pedis and they were very accommodating. We were a little late, but they still managed to seat us all together. Van worked on my pedi & Kelly worked on my gel mani. They were both so nice and did a great job. I was wary about cutting my cuticles so I made sure that they were aware. They were understanding and careful. They were also both extremely appreciative that I chose SUN for our party and I was as well. I mean, look at all the great reviews! My nails still look good and it's been a week. I'm very happy and would definitely recommend this place for a party or just to get in some R&R! They have a large selection of polishes. The facility, bathroom and spa chairs were clean. DO NOT LET Sabrina do your nails! I was screaming in my mind when she removed my acrylic nails...and I decided to write her an review on yelp after I left. Ok, I had my first life time acrylic nails done here before I went to vacation (2 weeks ago). I also did my full set pedicure as well. It was pretty good experience with the only male employee Bon and lady who did my pedicure! He was patient and careful when he did my nails. So my two stars are for him and the lady. After I came back from vacation, I felt it's kinda inconvenient for me when I do things with these acrylic nails; I decided to remove them. I understand they want their customer keep coming back, but Sabirna charged me $10 for just removing these acrylic nails. She said if I re-do them, I can get $5 off. Alright, fine. But the removing progress was TERRIBLE. First, she was rude when she tried to pull my acrylic nails out with pliers. The nails were seemed still tight with the glue. However, she kept doing this until I told her she hurt one of my fingers. I wondered why she insisted to pull all of them out even they're seemed impossible to remove. (I took a picture of my nails if you need reference! )I asked her if this is the only way to remove them cuz I watched a video online they place the nails into the pure acetone after they cut the outer edge of acrylic nails. She just gave me a whatever look and said " uh ok lets soak them with acetone now." While i was waiting, a lady came in. She wanted to re-do her acrylic nails with simple french. Sabrina asked her to sit down and started doing her nails. A while later, the lady started complained Sabrina hurt her nails as well. Not surprised! I don't think she can concern on her work while she were picking up the phone call and receiving a new customer who just walked in in the same time. Where to start?!? I found Simply Unique Nails on Yelp, because I was looking for a place to take my bridesmaids the day before my wedding. I was actually looking for a place that might serve alcohol, but alas, that is hard to find. The good thing is you can bring food and drink in with you! The best thing though, is that SUN is just amazing! From the second I walked in everyone was so welcoming. They offered me a complimentary glass of water (OR gatorade, tea, coke, etc.) and immediately started a pedi chair for me. They let your feet soak a bit, which is nice so you can figure out the awesome massage chair and gave me a few magazines to read (Star magazine trash is the best). I just got a Basic Pedicure, but I was still there for a little over an hour...you wanna know why? Because this was the BEST foot and calf massage I have ever had at a nail place...Seriously...EVER. They do it up with the orange sugar scrub first, then bring out the warmed lotion and go at those feet. I mean, wow. This was a wonderful experience...especially to wash away all those wedding stresses that can build up in the least expected places (like your feet)! They painted my little toes and then did a "cute and simple" flower design (like I asked). The guy who works at SUN actually came over and did the flowers and he was just as charming as the rest of them! Then I got to enjoy the chair for a little while longer as my toes dried and was on my way. The best thing about SUN though was just the attentiveness of everyone in there. They were warm and welcoming and really made it a point to make me feel comfortable...that is huge. Literally everyone in the nail salon knew my name by the time I left...even the nail techs that didn't work on my feet. They continuously checked in on me to make sure I was happy. It was really awesome. Needless to say, I will definitely be going back to SUN! I already made the appointment for my bridesmaids and I...and next time I'll be getting a mani-pedi. Bon does my stiletto acrylic nails and they always are stunning. I always have weird color requests, and sometimes even bring in my own my own glitter. As a broke college student, I very rarely professionally pamper, however today was just one of those days. I wanted crazy cool nails to keep me rolling on the home stretch to the end of the semester. When deciding where to go, I went for the most bang for my buck, and I certainly got it! Not only did my nails turn out BEAUTIFULLY, it was the best salon experience I've had. Both times, even after confirming in person with the owner(?), the deluxe services were not done (BEFORE A WEDDING). I asked the girls mid-service and they just nodded and said sorry, it's too late. Sad to only be able to give this place two stars. As everyone else has rightly pointed out, EVERYONE who works there is super nice. The place is clean, the chairs are great, the prices are appropriate, and yes, they do offer free drinks. I came in for a spa pedicure and leg/bikini/underarm waxing. The waxing was done quickly and painlessly, but inspection later revealed that an entire area was missed and that the bikini wax was, well, crooked. More disconcerting yet was that it only lasted a couple of days on my legs and underarms - I wax regularly, and with proper technique, it will usually last far longer than that. The person waxing must have torn the hair rather than pulled it from the root. The pedicure was fine, though the foot massage was on the painful side, and the paraffin was so overly hot that it left a couple of blisters. In addition, 6 of my toenails were chipped within 4 days! I wasn't wearing sandals and I wasn't particularly rough on my feet during that time, so I'm afraid my experience was not the same as others who indicated that their pedicures lasted for weeks.
