I walked here from the Marriott Rivercenter via the River Walk, and it took about 15 minutes, since I was navigating around closures for Fiesta. It wasn't busy around 1:30/2 p.m. on a Tuesday, and the service was excellent. I was seated right away with a jug of cold water. I ordered the Thai Iced Tea and it was pleasantly not too sweet. I really appreciate that they have a gluten free sauce available, so most dishes that are not fried can be made gluten free. I tried the Pad Kee Mao and it was delicious. I asked for a 7 out of 10 spice level and it wasn't very spicy, but the spice tray allowed me to add more as needed. The ingredients were fresh and everything was very well prepared; my food took a little while, but it came out piping hot. I enjoyed each bite, and I even had a little left over. They do take reservations and told me they're happy to accommodate large groups--they've had up to 50 people in the past. Tried The Sip Sam in San Antonio while visiting and had it delivered through Uber Eats--delivery was quick and smooth, no complaints there. Now... the food. I ordered the chicken fried rice and egg rolls. Let me be real--the egg rolls were the star of the show. Crispy, flavorful, and honestly the only thing that made me pause and say, "okay now, this right here." But everything else? Subpar, especially for $37. The fried rice missed the mark for me. The chicken came in these big, bulky chunks that didn't blend with the rice at all. Fried rice should be a harmony, not a scavenger hunt. A quick chop would've made a world of difference. Even the tomatoes were oversized, throwing off the whole texture. Flavor-wise... bland. Just flat. No depth, no "mmm," no reason to go back for another bite. And where was the sauce? You know that sweet chili or fish sauce that ties everything together? Missing. I got soy sauce, but I'm not big on all that sodium, so it didn't help the situation. Would I order again? Not a chance. There are too many solid Thai spots out there to settle for this. Final verdict: Egg rolls came to save the day... but couldn't save the meal. It's a no for me. read more

During my extended work week in San Antonio, I had the opportunity to dine at Sip Saam a few times. The restaurant is conveniently located near the Westin Hotel, where I was staying, yet it feels very local and away from the bustling crowds of the Riverwalk. The Moo Ping appetizer was delightful, as was the chicken satay. I ordered the Drunken Noodles each time, gradually increasing the spice level, and I thoroughly enjoyed them. Chicken massaman curry was ok. Water is brought via a pitcher and glasses for you to self pour. We had to ask for more water. When I asked for some sauces to spice up my dish it took some time. I wanted to like this place more than I did, but the food itself is mediocre and overpriced. I went for lunch and got the drunken noodles, which comes as a combo with soup and one crab rangoon. The drunken noodles were pretty dry and one-dimensional tasting (almost like only soy sauce was used). The noodles themselves had a great texture. I also loved the soup, which reminded me of a hot and sour soup but a savory version without the hot and sour components. The moo ping was tasty but the meat did not have much char--it seemed like it was cooked steaming in sauce. The mango sticky rice was definitely the star, close to perfection. The mango was super sweet and juicy and the rice had just the right amount of coconut flavor. Service was friendly and fast. And everything was very nice decor-wise. We really enjoyed Sip Saam Thai! The restaurant is beautiful inside, the staff so welcoming, everyone was very nice, and good service was QUICK! We got the chicken satay, moo ping, pangang chicken, and pad Thai pork, and we did not go wrong! One of my biggest pet peeves about spice is when they add a ton of chili flakes and chili oil to make it insanely spicy, so you just feel heavy and the flavor of the curry gets lost. This was NOT the case at Sip Saam - in fact, it was the total opposite! I loved the level 7 heat and how it crept up on you after initial bite, but yet still so enjoyable and full curry flavor intact! The pad Thai was simple at first, but then I stirred it up properly and POW! DELICIOUS! Again, not heavy, not greasy, just delicious. I loved the pangang because it wasn't a super thick sauce. The spice level, again 7, was perfect and enjoyable. Such a nice spice with a kick and such good flavor. I definitely wish there were some more veggies and maybe just a smidge more protein, but still, it was wonderful, and there was no bed of oil on top whatsoever. Pad thai not my favorite, but pad se ew was solid as well as the thai fried rice. The people here are very very nice. I would get the pad se ew and fried rice again but nothing else. Spice is 1-10 but you can add more spice later. Thai tea looked really good so maybe I'll try that next time. read more

Food here is awesome. We had the Crispy Garlic Spare Ribs and the Green Curry Beef. Both are must have. The ribs were made to perfection. Nice and crispy and meat just comes right off. Very favorable. I ordered medium spicy curry. It was just perfect. Anymore or any less would have ruined it. Just enough spice to give it that kick you needed. I ordered yellow curry w extra vegetables and a fried beef appetizer to-go. Pick up was easy. The yellow curry was tasty, definitely loved the amount of vegetables with the extra addition. The amount they give you is also relatively generous, though not quite enough for two. The fried beef wasn't for me; it wasn't as crunchy as I was imagining and a little on the drier side, more like a sweet jerky, but just a personal preference. Overall a good experience, rating 4 stars as the food was good but not extremely memorable either in terms of taste or uniqueness. read more

I'm currently in town for a conference and staying down the street from this restaurant and because I love Thai food I decided to give this place a try. (It was not recommended to me). Unfortunately I'm all alone so I wasn't with my family nor any other people to be able to order different plates and write a better review. With that said, here is what I tried. I started off with the Baton Shrimp Rolls which is shrimp wrapped and fried and comes with a sweet chili sauce for dipping. It's was delicious!!! I loved it. As my main plate I ordered the Pad Woon Sen which was also very tasty. The portions are big and I ate the entire thing. To drink they do serve alcohol like, beer, wine, sake and as well as hard liquor. Did not see a cocktail menu so not sure if they make cocktails. Not sure what the liquor license laws are in Texas. I just went with a Coke Zero. The service was really good. They were very friendly and attentive. Once I was finished eating my meal they brought me the check without asking if I wanted dessert so I'm not sure if they have any desserts. If they do, I would have liked to be offered or asked. I guess it's my only complaint. If I really was dying to have a dessert, I would have asked. The ambiance is ok, nothing very fancy. Has some Thai decorations like elephants along the walls but they didn't go all out. Overall I really liked the food and service so if you are in town and don't mind walking two block away from the famous River Walk, I do recommend trying this place for some good Thai food. But he also recommended this sweet place a block from our room! We looked at it from our window every day and wondered if we should! Sip Saam Thai of San Antonio was so, so delicious! And the service was just as amazing! Precious man who was quick with recommendations and just one of the best waiters we've ever had! He made it fun! I dropped in on a whim. The restaurant was only a block from my hotel and I had just completed a 30 K walk. The service was excellent; the waitress kept my water glass full without hovering. My entree, salt pepper shrimp, was just what I wanted. The crispy fried shrimp were accompanied by steamed jasmine rice and enough minced onions and peppers to keep me chewing to the last bite. Visiting from LA. Love Thai food and have it often and this was superb. As good as anything I've had in LA. The Tom Kha Coconut soup hot pot with shrimp was as good as I remember Torung being in its prime - amazing taste. And the green curry with mixed seafood was equally fantastic. Filling a need. Every neighborhood needs a quick service Asian restaurant, and we were sad when Thai Lucky closed its downtown location. Fortunately Austin based Sip Saam has come south to fill the void. We visited during this week's soft opening and were not disappointed. Several punch list items remain on the facility refresh, but the food was good and the service very good (friendly and accurate). The new menu is much broader than Thai Lucky (fills front and back of hard board placemats), so I will have further updates in the future when we try more items. I started with my favorites - Vegetable Gyoza and vegetable Pad Se Ew. Both were good. My daughter had Garlic and Black Pepper Chicken with white rice which she said was great.
