Very neighborhood should have a Sissy's. So much better than a chain restaurant. The name Sissy refers to the three sisters that own and work here. Menu is typical diner fare with a Mexican flair, and all cooked to order. Very clean. Kitchen is "in" the restaurant. No frills, but also no drama. Plenty of kitchen staff for the size and all the staff do look related to each other. Mexican music playing at a reasonable level, and everyone is efficient and nice. Not gourmet, but can see how it would be packed while Northpark University across the street is in session. Reminds me of the University Diner on University Place in NY's Greenwich Village. It was Greek owned and a great place for breakfast or lunch, especially if nursing a hangover. Another plus, the iced coffee is exactly how my mother used to make it. Geeen sauce Chilaquiles with steak added is my go to for breakfast. The steak has very good flavor and the rice is delicious. The mango smoothie with milk tastes very natural unlike places that use mango powder. My favorite lunch item is the steak plantain sandwich here with sweet potato chips. The green & red salsa is very good. They will sell you sauce if you ask for it too. read more

What a awesome place. Had a quick snack of empanadas and lemonade from here and it was delicious. I got two chicken empanadas and a strawberry and pineapple lemonade. Yum! The empanadas were perfectly filled and had a delicious chimichurri sauce to dip them in. The sauce was very flavorful and added the kick to the meal! The lemonades were delicious as well. Stopped by here on a whim and we were not disappointed. The wife absolutely loved her Cafe Con Leche. We also enjoyed empanadas(sauce was excellent), sweet plantains and a steak plantain sandwich with sweet potato chips. All excellent and service was also great. We will be back. read more

It's a new spot that I actually found on Yelp. When we were coming back from the car with our to go order a woman and traffic asked us if this place is any good and I've been twice and I love it. Recently tried out this new place on the neighborhood after reading their menu and seeing the positive reviews from others. What can I say the food and service were awesome. This is a locally owned small business restaurant featuring sandwiches and other items with a Latin twist. I ordered the Jibarito which is a steak sandwich served on fried plantains with fries. It was very good and a definite do over! I also tried their concha filled with strawberries and wow that was truly amazing. The family that runs this business are very professional and kind. Hope they do well and stay in our neighborhood as they are true great find! read more

We love Sissy's! It is a great alternative to the Starbucks across the street for coffee with friend or yummy breakfast. We enjoy both their lunch and breakfasts, oh and their specials. We have even been there as a family for Father's Day brunch. The staff make you feel like family so obviously the service is good and you feel seen. I was hooked since the first time I tried this place! They have a lot of amazing food but I always stick to my usual, the bacon egg and cheese bagel with fries. Simple, but the softness of that bagel is what gets me every-time! I have yet to sit inside and eat, but their place is really cute and cozy. I also appreciate the quick service, I never have to wait longer than 15-20 mins for my order to be ready! Sissy's serves authentic Mexican/Latin American staples including standard breakfast fare like Chilaquiles (delicious with the Verde sauce!). I love everything about this place. I can't believe that they are able to stand out as a sandwich shop on a strip made of sandwich shops, but everything about them is unique. The open, airy, and clean interior is inviting for sit down. The staff make you feel like you're stepping into a home cooking environment, but the food is varied and delicious. We have eaten here several times and everything has been delicious. Cheerful ambiance and attentive service. This time I had the Al Pastor sandwich with a side salad. The tender meat is cooked with little pineapple bits for a zesty, juicy flavor and served on a grilled ciabatta bun. I love their house-made salad dressing, which has a light citrus flavor. I'm a huge tamale snub so to finally find a decent tamale and the Foster Avenue lineup was very surprised me. This restaurant is taking over a new ownership it has a pretty decent menu. During the first week of their opening the staff was very friendly and I love the new modern Sleek decor. I was very hungry and since one of the neighboring restaurants to have planned to visit was closed I decided to give sissies a try. I was not disappointed tomorrow ice or spy on and I decided even the next day to go get them. I prefer the red tamales which word chicken-based.
