Our waiter greeted us right away and maintained an attentive and friendly demeanor. The crab fried rice, beautifully presented in a neat, molded dome and plenty of crab meat on top with enough veggies to not over power the crabs natural sweetness. The food jam ended with their pork belly, fried to crunchiness and tossed with Thai basil leaves and chili garlic sauce. The pork belly was almost inedible. This place was so freaking adorable interior design wise. Not a ton of tables but that made it more intimate. I went on a Saturday evening and there wasn't a wait for two people. Service was fast. I came here with some friends and enjoyed most of the dishes we ordered. The vibes and decoration were very cute and the bathroom was lowkey adorable haha We tried the Drunken Noodles, Panang Curry with Tofu and the Crispy Pork Belly. My favorite was the curry, but the noodles were very yummy as well. I would not recommend the pork belly. Many of the pieces were extremely hard/dry.. They also have a Magnolia inside the restaurant, which was perfect for dessert or some side drinks! We got the Matcha Toast which we loved. I was disappointed the last time I came here because the chicken that was in the Som Tum set was great but the papaya salad was lacking flavor. I've had great papaya salad at other Thai restaurants in the area but this one was not good. Also, the layout of the restaurant made it so that it took a long time for the waiter to notice that we wanted our check so we were sitting there for a while. First the positives: décor, atmosphere, service. The restaurant is tastefully decorated, well air-conditioned, restroom is very clean. Killer desserts (see images.) As far as the Thai food on offer, it totally misses the mark. Food lacks flavor, and what hints there are, are mismatched. I ordered Tom Yum soup with veggies, Thai spice level. What I got was what tasted like chicken broth, no lemongrass flavors, zero spice, bland enough to give to a flu patient. I wasn't able to eat it. I canceled my entrée crispy duck curry order, since the soup was a disaster. Upon taste testing others' in my party's dishes, my suspicions were confirmed that the food just isn't good. Drunken noodles were cold and tasted of a sweet/sour sauce unworthy of the lowest echelon comparably tasting sauces served in cheap Chinese takeout spots. It may be acceptable to the Bethesda Potomac crowd, where subpar food is l'ordre du jour, but a true Thai food enthusiast would walk away utterly betrayed. Prices are high compared to the food portions, and, as others have said, the minimum suggested tip is 20%. That's not only pretentious, but a bit of a slap in the face, all things considered. I was twice given dirty appetizers plates, which gives me pause for how clean of a food operation the establishment is. I'm leaving a generous 3 star review given the friendly service, and some people seem to like it. Again, place is clean and has a good atmosphere. Maybe good for a cold beer or cocktail, but not for dining. They charge $25 surcharge if you bring a birthday cake - not cool, not classy. Current Yelp rating is 3.9. Unfortunately, I can't say that I'm a fan. I'll start with what I like: - Intimate dining area where the interior felt like dining in someone's living room, but elevated in a sense. There's a lot to look at on the shelving around you including books, figurines, and other memorabilia placed strategically so your eyes can wander around. I also like how the menus are stylized as newspapers, adding to the interactive dining experience and theme of someone's living room. - They have an extensive drink list for both alcoholic and spirit-free drinks. The drinks are definitely aesthetically pleasing. The blood orange margarita I got was well-balanced in terms of flavor & came with blocky-cubed ice that kept the drink cold, but didn't water it down too quick throughout the meal. I also liked how they used crushed ice for your water. I'm a sucker for little details like these. The not-so-good: - The service. I'm usually not a stickler for service, but the waitress we had did not make the experience enjoyable. She took a while to get us waters & it felt like she was rushing to get our whole orders in. We didn't see her for the rest of our meal after she had rushed to take our orders. It made it hard to get another round of drinks & dessert so we decided to skip that part. At the end, we had to go looking for her to receive the check because she just disappeared. - The food. Although visually pleasing to look at, the flavor for me was just not there. Started off with the chive dumplings and they were extremely oily and had barely any flavor. The Som Tum (green papaya salad) was a miss. I usually always get this at Thai restaurants & this was just not it for me. The papaya was not crunchy and it was not spicy at all. Usually it would have a good balance between sweet & spicy, but this was just bland. I liked how the duck in the Crispy Duck Ka Prow was cut into large slices, however did not stay as crispy as I've had in other Thai restaurants. However, it did have good flavor and was probably my favorite dish out of everything I ordered. My review is only for the dessert and drink. I happened to have saw this place and noticed they had a lychee raspberry cake so I really wanted to try it since I was here. However, when I entered, I felt rushed and they weren't very helpful. Mind you, we were the only ones in there! I ordered the dessert and then wanted a drink but she didn't offer me a menu. So I was going off my memory and asked about the purple potato drink which would be helpful if they had descriptions. I asked about it and was told no caffeine and it was a milk drink. After trying to ask about other drinks which she wasn't really selling any of them. 1 drink she said it was some drink with blue liquid? Umm, ok. When I wasn't getting anything helpful I faltered back to the first drink. It was not good! I wasted $$ on that. Really no flavor whatsoever. Two weeks ago I had a friend in from out of town. Who was staying with her mother. We all decided to get together and made a reservation on a Friday night at 6 PM for four people. When we arrived at the restaurant, the area where we were seated was completely empty, and of course, given that it was a Friday night filled up fast. We were rushed from the minute that we sat down until after we finished our meal. When I say rushed the waitress, never even asked if we wanted something to drink, she wanted the order right away of which we horridly did. The food came out fast And I had ordered Thai green curry, which was watery. Immediately after two people were done they were pulling plates, and two of us were still eating. They hover over us and took our plates and boxed everything up and we continue to chat for another five minutes. When I say that we were in the restaurant less than an hour, That was all. It's not like we were there for another hour after we finished eating. The hostess then came up to our table and told us that we needed to leave because they needed the table. I found it shocking that somebody would come and tell us that five minutes after we finished. We got up and we left. I thought about it for a couple of days and called the restaurant and asked for the manager. Unfortunately, there was no one there, and I explain to the person on the phone how disappointed I was that our experience was not good. She assured me that it would be discussed in the meeting And that she would call me back. Of course they never did. Needless to say it's not a place. First visit to this restaurant with my parents for dinner. Parking is always packed around the Cabin John Mall. Tons of people, which is a frickin' hassle to deal with, even at the time of this pandemic. Anyway, we got seated promptly at a small half booth. Got the menu which were in a newspaper form. Ordered drinks, where I got a Sapphire Iced Coffee. For our food, we got Garden rolls, a Shrimp Pottery, Drunken Noodles with Chicken and a Massamman Curry. The Iced Coffee was a little bland with too much ice and not enough flavor. The rolls were basically raw veggies in a rice paper wrap. No shrimp or chicken or beef or pork. Food is good here and decor is cute. It's quiet and a good place to catch up and talk with friends. There's a full menu of Thai options but also an extensive dessert menu and coffee bar. They also have wines and cocktails perfect for happy hour. The only drawback is that they are pricey and not terribly friendly. I spilled something and they saw it happen but stood there looking pissed and then it was a while before someone brought me napkins after I asked for them. And then they only brought me two napkins which wasn't nearly enough. We also felt rushed. While we were talking they brought us our checks. And kept eyeing us when we continued to talk. Finally, they came by and opened the check folder to see if there was a payment inside and then walked away again. It was an obvious signal to hurry. I've gotten take out from here and the food has been consistently good though overpriced. As a Thai food lover, I had been meaning to try out this new Sisters Thai location and I am so glad I did. After ordering the lunch deal (appetizer+entree) with Thai Iced tea, I decided that this was one of the best Thai food places I've been to in the area. On entering, the staff warmly welcomed us into the well-lit restaurant. The walls were decorated with quaint decor and bookshelves filled with books. Along the same theme, the menu was disguised as a newspaper. Overall very cute! The spring roll appetizer was crispy and delicious, with a sweet chili dipping sauce that complemented the spring rolls well. The chicken Pad Thai came with thinner noodles than most Pad Thai dishes at other restaurants but the flavors were unparalleled. Paired with a refreshing Thai Iced Tea, this was overall a great meal. Joyce got the pad lad na ($15), which had good flavor but it was more of a soup, probably due to our lack of knowledge of what the dish was but we were expecting something closer to pad see ew. I am unsure what is actually so good about their food or service here at Sisters Thai. My friends and I visited them during Saturday lunch time and chose to sit outside. We ordered Massaman curry, spicy eggplant, and red curry. The latter two were ordered to be spicy. I have to say that none of the food items ordered were good enough I'd be a repeat customer because of it. First of all, there was more broth than any other ingredients in both of the curry. Both of the dishes were also barely seasoned and it tasted cold and flavorless. I had ordered my red curry Thai spicy. Nope. I felt zero heat. The spicy eggplant was ok. There was also nothing spicy about it. All dishes also came with barely any rice for accompaniments. So once the meager amounts of rice were consumed, there's no way to eat the rest of the uber brothy curry. And it costs $2 for extra rice AND the servers never came to ask if anything else was needed. The reason why I am giving a 2 stars? We were told at the end by a female manager (?) AFTER PAYING AND TIPPING that they normally don't serve customers outside this time of the year. The rationale behind this? BECAUSE IT'S VERY COLD OUTSIDE AND THEY AREN'T PERMITTED TO WEAR A JACKET. THAT IT'S DIFFICULT FOR THE SERVERS TO BE OUTSIDE TO SERVE PEOPLE WITHOUT A JACKET. Let me just forget about the part that the person who actually served our food was wearing a jacket the whole time. And the restaurant door to our table was less than a foot away and he was outside for less than 30 seconds at a time. But hey, if you're that uninterested in having people ---like us---come and dine your food, I will respect that. I don't like to write low-star reviews but this place is rather exceptional in just how abominable it is service-wise. I came here when they had just opened and hoped they would improve. They haven't. I understand some places are just inflexible in terms of things being made a certain way but that does not begin to account for anything about the way I have been repeatedly treated here. I was just made to feel very uncomfortable, and wanted to leave. The food is okay. Of course, my brain being battered by person after person could potentially have had some effect on my buds' ability to do their tasting job .... The service is very rushed -- regardless of how empty the place is -- and pressure-filled. Even attempting to recall the various elements of just what made the service and experiences so bad makes me feel uncomfortable and I want to leave again -- even though I am safe at home now! In most places, I want to thank the chef if I happen to get the chance but here I just feel icky at the sight of the person who created the dishes I had to finish in order to re-attain my very longed-for freedom .... I felt trapped there. I didn't even want to wait for the food to come. It's difficult to describe or figure out what actually happened. The words were kinda almost alright, I guess .... The delivery certainly wasn't! I'm getting a headache thinking about it so I think that is the best I can do. To be clear -- in case I wasn't -- I do not recommend this place. There are plenty of other restaurants Thai or otherwise. Pama Thai is spectacular, superb, excellent, friendly, beautiful, roomy and accommodating. Panida Thai and sushi bar is another wonderful Thai restaurant in the area that is, again, friendly and accommodating. If you don't particularly need Thai food, there is no shortage of all kinds of fare even within walking distance of this place. I recommend anywhere else. Then again, apparently some people love it. Perhaps they enjoy the snobbery because it gives them that real Potomac feeling. Perhaps they feel rudeness is more authentic to the culture and represents Thailand instead of pandering to polite Westerners. Perhaps they like the rushing and hurrying and being cut off and talked down to or don't notice it or are proponents and practitioners of these kinds of behaviours themselves and so they fit right in there. Whatever the reason, this place still stands and it may suit you! I hope so, so that it will always be full and I will never be lulled into thinking the empty seats and nice-looking outdoor area will somehow equate or lead to having a minimally acceptable experience there. I feel sick to my stomach just thinking about it. I think 'dismal' is a good word to give you the most basic idea of my feelings about this place .... 'Abysmal' is another good one! I'm seriously aghast reading the good reviews -- what could anyone possibly see in this place? It's not just one but now two of the most horrific restaurant experiences I've ever had in my lifetime including decades of Thai food that was all better than this! Being cut off while I'm speaking, not allowed to ask a question about the food available on the menu, having the first person we encountered speak to the waitress on my behalf to explain I'd eat only certain things so the waitress made assumptions and essentially spoke for me when she arrived, leaving me to stammer that yes, it's true, but that doesn't mean I don't have any questions! Then not being taken seriously, feel just totally disrespected, talked down to, treated with impatience, like I did not matter -- what value did I receive for my money, time, or effort? It was more like an attack than service. I mean, multiple verbal attacks. Then, when leaving, the waitress shouted from the door something about tea while appearing to look at me. I told her 'No, I don't want tea. No tea. No tea!' getting louder to make sure she didn't bring me tea. I thought maybe she'd misheard me somehow or seen me move my mouth in a way that looked like 'Tea.' Then she said to me as if I were such a hassle in her life that she was talking to someone else. Why was she shouting across the restaurant? Why not walk over to the person to whom she was 'speaking' (shouting!) and why not be more careful with where her eyes land so I would not make that mistake? Why blame me for her mistake? There is outdoor seating and additional seating at the bar. There was six of us including myself. We ordered five entrees to share including: 1) Crispy Eggplant 2) Crispy Filet Fish 3) Chicken Festival 4) Pad See Ew with Beef 5) Crispy Duck Ka Prow We also ordered the Crispy Calamari as an appetizer. One friend ordered the Panang Curry and salad off the lunch special because she's vegetarian. My favorite dish was the Chicken Festival which came with either fried rice or lo mein. I ordered it with fried rice. I thought the chicken had good flavor and wasn't dry. However, my colleagues thought it was just average and not authentic. Also the fried rice was too moist, borderline soggy to me. The eggplant and filet fish had great potential but they were too soggy due to sitting in a puddle of sauce. The Pad See Ew noodle was cooked perfectly, however, the beef was chewy and a bit overcooked. I liked the duck and my friends enjoyed the duck the most out of everything we ordered. The calamari was pretty good and very crunchy, however, I think they should provide more dipping sauce. In the back of the restaurant there is also a bakery called Magnolia. Unfortunately, although our portion size initially looked small, I was stuffed at the end that I had no room for dessert. The upside of the restaurant being small is that the servers came around regularly. It seemed as though the servers help each other as multiple servers brought out our food and cleared our table. It's not just the mirrored perfume tray that holds bar bitters in antique atomizer bottles that enamors, or the large windows in the bathroom that are placed in front of a fake city scape that excites. Sinking your fork into a deliciously spicy tender eggplant and basil also wakes up the senses, and steaming your face over a subtle broth that is soon to be poured over egg noodles with crab and roast pork stirs the heart as well. My guest and I sat outside on the covered patio, which seemed to be a wonderful idea if not for an aggressively pesky honey bee that tried to burrow it's way into my Thai Iced Tea straw again and again. He likely also sensed the expert balance of sweet punchy bright orange tea with cold silky cream. Or maybe he noticed the attentive service with which we were being helped. Whatever it was... I'd suggest to Sisters to plant some basil or natural deterrent on the patio as we spent a good 15 minutes of our meal trying to extricate our unwanted guest who was as persistent and insistent as a Timeshare Salesman. I do really enjoy Sisters though. One might accuse me of being a tad bit biased of Sisters Thai, as whoever owns the small local chain seems to be as much of a lover of vintage and antique clocks as I am. But they seem to have a very clean and precise way of doing things in all facets of the restaurant. The experience is manicured down to the servers matching outfits and it shines through the food. Sometimes I have pause in describing my experience at restaurant, and choose the word "clunky" to describe the general feel of ham-fisted preparations or awkward uncomfortable service. Sisters Thai is a great addition to the moco suburbs. If you've ever eaten at any magnolia cafe, or their other locations you know how beautifully decorated this restaurant is. Upon entering, you are created with a very cool interior and ample seating. We visited on a Sunday afternoon for a birthday brunch. The staff was very accommodating about seating our group together and even offered to make a special birthday treat for the guest of honor. We ordered several appetizers and four entrees including pad Thai, pad see ew, green curry and their speciality crab fried rice. Everything came out fairly quickly and portions were very typical for Thai food. I would saw overall taste is definitely good, but maybe not the best of the best for this area. While there may be other options in the area, I recommend trying out this spot for good ambience, good service and food. Not to mention they have beautiful desserts you cant skip out on! read more

AMBIANCE I've been to magnolia bakery in VA so was not surprised when sister thai had a similar vintage aesthetic. Super cute interior, menu and overall surrounding. There's ample seating inside; including: bar seating, seating inside and seating outside. Came during the daytime so would need to come back again during the evening to see how the ambiance/vibe changes throughout the day. Only con was there was no free wifi - which seems like a missed opportunity considering the comfy seating, cafe drink menu and numerous power outlets throughout the location. SERVICE There was nothing spectacular with the overall service we received. We were seated rather quickly. The waitress who took our order was swift and to the point. Did not take any time to introduce us to the place/menu. The waiter who brought out our appetizer seemed a little spaced out and actually didn't notice he spilled the sauce on our table while setting down the plate. I proceeded to have to search around the nearly empty establishment to find some napkins to wipe everything up. Would've been nice to have staff in the same room/vicinity as there were quite a few on duty and not too many customers there. Had high expectations since their other locations have always provided impeccable service so was a bit surprised. FOOD The food was pretty good. Nothing to complain about. I got the drunken noodle/fried tofu lunch combo. The pricing on the lunch combos are pretty good considering that it comes with an app and an entree. My friend got the duck curry, but noted the serving size was a little small considering the price point, but the curry was pretty good overall. OVERALL Good, but nothing especially stood out during my visit. Will need to come back after a bit to see if anything changes. read more

Yums! I had never heard of the place but apparently they have a few locations, one being in Fairfax, VA and then now they opened up in Potomac, in the Cabin John shopping center!! They also are sisters to Magnolia desserts and it too opened up here! Front part was the restaurant with a bar then if you go towards the back, is their bakery area, Magnolia. We ordered the boat noodle soup and that pink noodle soup. Both were delicious! Usually when i go to Thai restaurant, I am hesitant to order anything that has that spicy sign! Most places are unable to make a dish mild, but when i asked the server he said their mild wasnt very spicy at all, i took the risk and ordered it and he did not lie! I am very happy with dishes that maybe I can try their other spicy dishes! You can also change the spice level to your liking. I'm just glad there's finally a thai place that is able to do not as spicy thai food for those who have a terrible tolerance to spicy! :) we also ordered their bread dessert with ice cream on top. it was okay. i wish the bread was a little softer because it was hard to cut through to share! but great service, very cute ambiance, and GO check out their bathrooms!!! Dropped by for lunch and had the lunch menu options. You can choose an appetizer and then an entree. Spring rolls were cooked to a perfect crisp and the side salad was fresh plus delicious! Chicken pad Thai was great too and good size for a lunch portion. Also got the chicken kaprow, but the chicken seemed a little under cooked and I wasn't a fan of the rice being on the same plate. The sauce from the kaprow saturated the rice and was too mushy/salty. Definitely will like to come back to try other menu options! read more
