Sizzling Lunch is quite amazing in many ways. It is like a bigger, spacious, modern version of Milpitas' Pepper Lunch. I highly recommend getting the garlic pepper beef sizzling plate and mix it with the garlic shoyu sauce and you will have a really good meal at an inexpensive price. The meats are high quality and tender. I have sampled some of my friends' other platters and they were all great! The takoyaki and sweet potato fries are all really good appetizers to share with your friends, family or even your date. Speaking of dates, even though the food is cooking on your iron plate, the restaurant is well ventilated that your clothes won't smell too bad, unless you like beef perfumes/colognes haha. The staff is very friendly and takes good care of you. I have gone to Sizzling Lunch twice now. One time with a friend and another time with a large group and the restaurant is great for groups. It is hard for some restaurants to accommodate large groups but Sizzling Lunch can easily handle large parties effortlessly. My favorite at Pepper Lunch is the curry udon noodles, so I ordered the same here. I asked to have the curry sauce with my udon instead of just the curry powder. The curry was underwhelming and had less flavor than Pepper Lunch's curry, so I was a bit disappointed. My husband enjoyed his dish (I forget what it was, but definitely something more meaty haha) and he did think the meat quality was better than Pepper Lunch. This was my birthday lunch, and it hit the spot. Curry Beef with Cheese and a pile of rice & corn all on a cast iron plate of sorts, brought to the table sizzling as the beef continued to cook and rice crusted to the bottom (the crispy rice caramelized to the pan, or socarrat, is my fav part of a paella). They tell you to flip the beef so it cooks evenly before mixing everything together. I agree. Also that allows the rice to cook a little bit more again pan. Once it's all mixed up, add sauces and chili powder to your liking--I went with both sauce and an extra pump or two of that chili. Then it was good to go and I dove right in. So fun, so yummy. I love Pepper Lunch so I was really happy when Sizzling Lunch opened in Cupertino closer to where I live. Near Target so I always go shopping before or after I eat at Sizzling Lunch :-) Parking is hard if you come at peak lunch/dinner hours. With Afuri opening across the plaza there are more diners here. The parking spots are super tight, so be careful. You can also park along the street (between Sizzling Lunch & Target) which might be closer than the other end of the parking lot. It's nice to see this small plaza up and poppin' now. It used to be dead (okay..slower) for many man years. Restaurant is large and spacey. Lots of yappies and also families coming here to eat. Food here is so yummy and fun. I love udon noodles they are my favorite noodles. I have never tried the rice dish. Be careful to mix really quickly because I find that sometimes the udon gets stuck to the pan and it burns. I love the toppings. It scares me how much flavor I keep adding to my dish! I usually get beef for the meat. I like getting the curry and the garlic add-ons. I honestly can never taste the "curry" taste in the dish, but it definitely makes the dish more flavorful in a way which is what I am aiming for. Waiters are friendly and refill my water quickly! (I am drinking a lot of water since my mouth is exploding from all the condiments I added....) If you check in on Yelp you get one free add-on. Better than my last experience a couple years ago! Came here with a girl friend and the food is much better than what I remember. Today I ordered a beef curry cheese rice plate and it was way more flavorful than my first visit. My friend also really liked the udon beef dish she ordered and said the kimchi was good. Came here with my mother last week. I've been here before and ordered the salmon sizzling plate but it was a bit bland. This time I had the beef and it was good with the soy sauce and some salt. Everything cooked well. For the price this place is a good deal. However some things I've noticed upon second visit: -Sometimes what they have going on the television is a bit too violent to let me enjoy my meal. I think Red starting Bruce Willis was playing. I finally had some time to check out this specific location of Sizzling Lunch. I absolutely love how spacious the place is with plentiful amount of chairs and TV screens to stare at. To have a more meaningful comparison, I ordered my usual favorite Beef Udon. I am kind of torn because I felt like I had to use more sauce than normal to really get my craving satisfied. It wasn't as spectacular as the South SJ location. However, I have to say that the portion size is always amazing. If you were to compare this to Pepper Lunch, the taste is more on the sweeter side and definitely has a cleaner restaurant. Similar concept to Pepper Lunch, but does how does Sizzling Lunch compare? I would've liked it more but found it a little lacking, so honestly speaking, it's good for this concept of food on a hot plate. Menu contains the typical rice and noodle plates with a protein of your choosing like beef or salmon, curry plates and there are extra sides like fried garlic or a fried egg along with appetizers to start with. I ordered the Beef with Udon and garlic topping, my usual order at PL. The first thing I noticed is that they actually have paper shields when your hot plate comes out which is so necessary and I don't understand why PL doesn't have, though their global locations do. The portion size here is generous and came out with a pat of butter, green onions, corn and a generous sprinkling of fried garlic. I did find that the hot plate wasn't very hot or "sizzling" for very long, so you have less than a few minutes to cook your food. I particularly like when my noodles have a bit of Maillard reaction but did not get that here. They have some sauces on the side such as Garlic Soy and Teriyaki sauce. I used the Garlic Soy and found that I needed a lot to provide flavor and the Fried Garlic was garlicky but found some pieces a bit too hard. Would've liked garlic butter more instead! Meat is also a bit thicker here and not as thinly sliced. Service was really good and love how big the space is. Servers checked in frequently and refilled waters in a timely manner. The parking lot is a bit small, unfortunately. Price is okay, but would've liked more meat to noodle ratio and more flavor. Decent place for hot plates however. read more

Taste-wise, it was pretty satisfying! The beef was tender, and the rice had this peppery Japanese curry flavor that I like. Mixed it with the Teriyaki and Garlic Shoyu condiments (at each table), it was super yummy! Actually, I enjoyed it more than Pepper Lunch. I've been waiting for something like Pepper Lunch to pop up on this side of town. There's no please wait to be seated sign so a lot of people just walked in slowly until a server saw them and began to seat them. And I'm not completely sure if it's a walk up to pay situation, or wait at the table because there's no one's standing at the open cashier and no one brings the check when there's a finished table. Everyone was a little unorganized, but very friendly with good attitudes. I ordered the Curry Beef Udon with garlic butter (my same order at PL all the time). I like that it's a bigger plate so nothing falls out while you mix and that it comes with a paper shield. The meats are thick, but too big. You end up having to cut the meat on your own to make it a one biter. The meat quality is not as good as Pepper Lunch and the sauces don't really help with the seasoning of the udon/meat. Everything was still pretty bland even with the flakes, sauce and butter. The curry flavor did not stand out at all. It only helped a bit when I added teriyaki sauce (which was so freaking good, not too sweet). A cup of cheap tasting hot tea was a little over $2, wtf. I understand charging for tea, but make it a quality tea *qualitea* at least. I don't know if this place would take over my love or craving satisfaction for Pepper Lunch. You get seated fairly quickly as there was no wait. Has t.v.'s all around the place, which is cool, 'cus we came during the Laker game. The sizzling plate is a lot bigger than Pepper lunch, and the meat is a thicker cut as well. It comes out with a paer that goea around the sizzling plate, which I find great, 'cus of all the splatter that happens when it first arrives. It also has this scoop of butter covered in fried garlic bits, and pepper sprinkled all over. There is more pros for this place over Pepper Lunch, not only is there not a wait, but more space and can seat bigger parties, and the next table is pretty far from you, instead of touching sistance. Sizzling Lunch is right off of Stevens Creek with a small parking lot. The inside has a lot of room and was never crowded the times that I went. I ordered the chicken and salmon teriyaki deluxe. After ordering, the food came out pretty quickly and it was very hot. I mixed in the rice and added some teriyaki sauce to it. Honestly, without the teriyaki sauce the food would have tasted very plain. However, this is what makes Sizzling Lunch a healthy alternative to many other restaurants as it's not overly greasy. The chicken didn't look like the chicken in the menu photo. I think they used curry seasoning on it. It tasted fine, but I was just expecting standard grilled chicken based on the photo. It's 8:36 pm and they close at 9. I called and asked if we arrived in 6 minutes if they would still take us? She replied with yah no that's too late. I get if I came in at 8:50 I would understand but I had more than 15 min til closing. I thought when they state they close at 9, that they should take customers until that time. i came here after a hike with my fiance during pandemic times. We called ahead to pick up our order because we thought orders were only to go. When we got there we saw they had outdoor dining and asked if we could switch our orders to eat outside. The employee kindly told us that it was too late but we could still eat outside. Food is bomb.
