You order at the register (no menus) and find a seat yourself. We had to look for someone who was leaving and scout their table. If you don't want to fight for a table, you can take it to go. Limited drink options. My bottle of OJ was $5, so like the rest of Seattle, a bit pricey. We had the basic egg boat and the beef stroganoff. The food was really good. Why did it take me so long to discover khachapuri?! Honestly, what could be better than a bread boat filled with cheese, it's divine! Skalka is a cute cafe open close to the Seattle waterfront... a great choice if you are down visiting the great wheel. They offer the ability to order ahead so you don't have to wait, which is nice as all their breads are cooked fresh to order. It will be piping hot when you get there. You can go with a plain egg and cheese, but my favorite was the stroganoff. Though, you can't go wrong with any option. This is perfect comfort food for a cool fall or rainy winter day. read more

Cool to have cuisine like this near the market. Nice, bright interior. Ordering system is just a kiosk up at the bar where you order your meal and pick it up when ready. They have limited drinks here; just plain coffee, soda, OJ, and water. Would be nice to have an espresso machine and some more coffee or tea options, honestly. That would kick this place to the next level. We enjoyed our Lobiani boat, though would recommend getting some extra pickles and grabbing a bottle of hot sauce. The bread is soft and well-baked however- the ratio was just a bit off to me when I went and i ended up leaving half the crust. Considering the location and ingredients price seems decently fair to me. One is a good portion size- enough to fill one person, or a snack for two people. Mine looked better than it tasted--it could have been saltier or had more of a tomatoey flavor in the veggies. Such a cute spot close by the Seattle waterfront which is great for a walk afterwards The size of the Khachapuri was so big that you can definitely share it with another person. For breakfast on a Sunday morning, before heading home after a long weekend in Seattle, my husband and I came to Skalka. It was walking distance from our hotel, and when we arrived, the place was packed! They are currently operating under a self-service ordering model - you walk up to a kiosk and place your order at the front counter. You can then wait for your food and grab a seat. It was all a little confusing, but once we figured it out, the rest was smooth sailing. My biggest qualm was that people were hawking tables without having received their food so that when our food did arrive, we were left there standing with nowhere to sit. Other than that, the food itself was absolutely delicious and I cannot recommend it enough. You can tell they put a lot of love and care into their product and it shows. The bread was so fresh and the melted cheese with the egg just screamed comfort food. This is definitely the type of spot that I will return to every time I am in Seattle because the food is that good. read more

I finally got a chance to check out Skalka and we really enjoyed our meal! We got the stroganoff and the chicken, both being delicious and filling! Skalka has plenty of seating, but a lot of it was taken when we visited on a Sunday around noon; many people ended up taking their food to-go, which sounds like a great option when the weather is nice outside. Skalka is towards the southern part of Pike Place Market and the waterfront; pretty close to the Harbor City Steps apartment complex with street parking and various garages and lots nearby. The service was very friendly, but my only wish was that the service was slightly faster. When we ordered from the tablet in the front, there was a sign saying the service could take up to 30 minutes, and in our case it did. There were a handful of customers going up to the counter to check the status of their orders, telling us that they were waiting a while too. I finally was able to try Skalka after hearing so many great things about it! This a great local spot run by a mother-and-daughter duo. They were so sweet and kind. There is a decent amount of seating for customers. They are open until 7pm but after 6:30pm they only do take-out. I was able to try the Chicken Boat and the Lobiani Boat. The chicken boat is sooo flavorful and rich. This one was my personal favorite. The lobiani boat is delicious as well but the flavors are mild and subtle. I appreciate that for take out they put a cup over the egg yolk to make sure it was fresh. The best part paired with the flavorful fillings was the bread!! The bread is so soft and perfectly baked! Waited about 15 minutes for the dish to come out. I got the veggie boat without the egg yolk. The bread is incredibly soft, still has flavor and is a perfect vehicle for the inner boat. The veggie filling is flavorful and tomatoey. The cheese is flavorful, melty and soft. The ratio of filling to bread is just right. I came here for the first time a few weeks ago. I've never had khachapuri before. This was a great introduction! When we walked in, I was surprised that there was no one at the counter, and one ordering screen. There was only one group ahead of me, though, so the ordering process went smoothly and didn't take too long. I think it may be beneficial to have at least one person at the counter, in case people have questions. Luckily, I didn't have any at the time. We ordered one beef stroganoff boat. It was big enough for me and my husband to share. We sat by the window and saw the ferris wheel as we noshed on our food. Good times. So the stroganoff part was delicious. Meaty, mushroomy, and it even had pickles on top. I thought the presence of pickles was weird at first, but soon learned that their nice crunchy tang balanced the richness of the rest of the dish. The egg and cheese side was honestly a bit boring in flavor. It needed something... salt? Spices? I don't know. Texture was good though, and we ended up mixing it all up anyway to make a wonderful dip for the yummy fresh bread. We looked for a hot sauce. All they had was a sriracha made by Tabasco, which is surprisingly good on its own, but it did not go with the stroganoff. Maybe a hot sauce like harissa would be nice. Or just chili flakes. I'd love to come back to try some other flavors. Also, apparently you can get a free coffee with a Yelp Check-In... I didn't realize that last time, but I will try it next time! read more
