I really, really wanted to love Skinny Wimp and, had just a couple things been different, I would gladly be writing a five star review. However, we had one big problem that overshadows the rest of the experience. Our movers arrived with a smaller truck than expected and thus didn't have room to fit everything in one trip. Despite this being no fault of our own, we then had to pay for an extra hour and extra drive time for having to make two trips! We were told that the bigger truck had issues with its power steering and that was why they had to bring the smaller truck, which would have been fine if everything had still fit, but why do we have to pay more for something that was completely out of our control?!? We were promised a truck that would accommodate a two bedroom apartment. That's not to say that everything was bad. In fact, the first half of the move was great! The movers arrived a little late but I'm always running behind schedule myself so it wasn't an issue and they called to tell me that they were about 30 minutes behind schedule. Once they arrived, they got busy right away. I was amazed at how quickly they were able to clear the boxes. The guys were constantly on the move for the entire two hours that it took to clear out our apartment of all the big boxes and furniture. We had already decided to focus the two hours on the biggest items in order to stay within our three hour time window and that we would move the smaller, leftover items in our cars later in the day. All was going well and we were staying on track to finish in the allotted three hour window until we found out that the truck was full and we'd have to make a second trip for the handful of bigger items that we had left. Had we had the bigger truck, everything would have fit and we would have saved about 45 minutes by not making the second drive from Carmel Valley to Mira Mesa. Basically, because the smaller truck didn't accommodate our things, we had to pay an extra $280 on top of our Groupon price ($200). It was an extra $160 for the additional hour and we were charged for two drives instead of one. What started as such a promising moving day ended up being a frustrating experience that more than doubled the anticipated cost of our move. While I'd love to recommend Skinny Wimp based on their hustle, I can't due to the way that the business was handled. read more

I will not use or recommend Skinny Wimp again. Used their services for 2 moves which went well (and keeps 1 star.) Third move was so unbelievably bad: Confirmation calls from Ryan, the manager (found out he's not really the manager,) then multiple changes in dates and times, and then abandoned my move entirely via text message. The unreliability, unprofessional communication and cancellation were all too much. When you need to move out/in on specific dates, this company is no longer reliable in San Diego. I had Brandon K., Chad, and Louie help me move out of my apartment and they were super awesome! Really nice, down to earth, and hustled! I helped them out just because I didn't feel like just sitting there AND because it would get done faster. I had everything in my living room ready for them to move and it was just my bedroom and kitchen stuff and they had everything in the truck within 15 minutes. We made it to my new place and got it all out within about the same time. These guys were the best and when I move again I will hire skinny wimps! Hiring Skinny Wimps to help us out during a recent move was 100% the best decision we could have made. The BF and I were making our move to a new apartment on the top floor of a building and had a lot of heavy furniture. We could have rented a U-Haul and tried to lug it all in ourselves, but for the sake of our sanity and backs, we decided to hire Skinny Wimps (per the suggestion of a friend). I do not regret a single penny I paid for this service. Alec and Moe were our movers and they were awesome! They packed up our furniture really well in blankets and wrap and it was delivered in perfect condition. They were also seriously hustling and I mean, jogging back to the truck after placing each piece down. I almost wanted to tell them it was okay to walk cause they were clearly working so hard and efficiently. They were able to get our move done quickly and everything went very smoothly. Overall, we did a 3 hour move ($345+$29 additional drive time). I would highly recommend this company and would use them again for a future move. Move confirmed via phone day before for 8am next day. 8am - no one shows up 8:30 - I call wondering where the three movers are - they don't know 9am - I call again, still no idea where movers are 9:15 - I call again, I MUST move today. Childcare is being paid for the move, wife leaves on business the next morning, lease is up house is closed. Where are the movers? They don't know. 9:30 - I call again. Apparently somebody hurt their leg (not sure about the other two pairs of legs being healthy, but certainly someone had a phone - right?). They refunded me and said a manager would call me (his phone or leg must be hurt too because he hasn't). I had to find new movers and pay outrageous costs for an emergency same day move. I moved in September and had one of the worst moving experiences possible. My time slot was 1-6 pm on a Sunday. The 2 movers called me and let me know they were stuck on another move and they'd get there as soon as possible. They didn't show up until 7 at my complex. I preboxed everything to make the job go faster and they were done loading at around 9. When we got to my new apartment they parked in front and then decided they needed to move the truck to get closer to the door. It was so loud that the head of the HOA came out and reprimanded me telling me it was quiet hours and if I didn't have it done by 10, she'd have the police come. The 2 movers were fine, no complaints there just the delay and stress of them being late. This is the part I am seriously frustrated by. The truck spilled oil all over the front driveway of the complex. The complex charged me $165 for the clean up. When I called skinny wimp, their head quarters was very nice but they couldn't get in touch with the San Diego manager, Alex Miramontes. They kept saying he'd call back, I had to call every day for a week until he called me back. Finally he agreed to pay me for the damage and waive the travel fee, so a reimbursement of $205. We emailed back and forth because he kept "forgetting" to pay me. This went on for months. He finally offered to Venmo me and then stopped answering me. I emailed several times asking him to do the right thing and he refused to respond. Skinny wimp prides themselves in customer service and yet they couldn't even get me reimbursed for the damage the incurred while moving my stuff. I rarely leave reviews. However, this company did a great job. While it turned out a bit pricey- it was easy, professional and hands off. Connor, in the office listened to all of our details and were able to make the reservation without delay or complication. Jon and Ryan, the movers were awesome! On time, quick, always moving with something in hand. And when we arrived at the new house they paid attention and were able to put everything in the correct rooms. I purchased 3 hours at $115/hr and was billed an additional $230 at completion, which I was not prepared for, but it was well worth it. However, this morning (3 days later) when the additional charges hit my bank account I was double charged. We all know with moving every penny matters. On Wednesday January 10th, 2018 we hired Skinny Wimps through Groupon to move our home. It was a 2 bedroom 1,000 sq foot apartment with a garage. Everything was packed and all furniture was taken apart by my wife and I in advance. It was a local move within Carlsbad 7.1 miles and 13 minutes between locations. The move was scheduled for 9AM and the 2 young males arrived at 9:30AM with an Enterprise rental truck. We had confirmed with corporate that we needed boxes for hanging clothes (they said they would bring 6) and runners for carpets and rope. When the movers showed up, they said they were not given anything. We literally put everything except big furniture in the living room and garage and made process easy for Skinny Wimps. Took apart all of the furniture ourselves and put in primarily the main room and garage so should have been an easy move. When my wife booked told them how much stuff we had and to send big truck, strong guys, rope, runners, and clothing boxes. None of which happened. When my wife called corporate, they said they are in Arizona and said we should go to the store and pick up runners and rope while the movers continued to load the truck and they would reimburse us. We asked what type of rope and they said any rope, which was not the case. It cost me $102.82, which I had to pay for out of pocket. I left at 11:15am while my wife was at the new home waiting a furniture delivery and returned a few minutes before noon. When I returned, the truck was still in the drive blocking 4 garages. It was left wide open, my stroller sitting outside, dolly loaded with my belongings, front door unlocked. After 20 minutes of looking for the movers, my wife called corporate again. They told her the movers texted them that they had an emergency and abandoned the job and the truck. They left a note saying had emergency had to go other movers on their way. They Abandoned moving van left it wide open all my possessions left out my house wide open dogs inside. When I called corporate, they told me replacement movers were on their way from LA and would arrive in 4 hours at 4pm. When I mentioned the truck was unlocked and blocking neighbors they say they can't do anything to help. When a neighbor complained they needed to go to work, corporate (upon my request) said they would reimburse the Uber rides for the neighbor to get to work. When I walked inside, I saw immediately that the movers had broken a leg on my fancy entertainment center before abandoning our job. When 3pm came around, I called corporate and they said the movers from LA can't make it but they hired a new moving company who will be there for the move at 4pm. I have everything photo and video documented. The other company arrived at 4pm. Everything was packed poorly and both my entertainment center and wife's dresser that is part of a collection were damaged. The packing job was terrible and needed to be completely redone, as all paintings were thrown in the truck and the little stuff was put in before the big stuff, which was all poorly wrapped. The new movers were blown away by the lack of professionalism by the first movers. They told me Skinny Wimps would cover the cost of the move. Due to the mess that needed to be corrected and the poor packing job of the first movers, the move took 2 trips and 12 hours total. We were not done until 3:35am. They Didn't wrap anything properly and just threw everything in kids' doll house pictures. There is not a lock on truck I had to sit outside 4 hours to watch my stuff. I had to cancel my entire next day work as my low back and knees hurt from helping as well as I hurt my finger during the move and was not slept. I paid movers and should not have had to move a finger during this move. My daughter had her diabetes medicine in the truck so she was not able to eat dinner since she needed insulin. Both my kids didn't get their beds until after midnight so they had to stay awake. We missed old mattress pick up by company who came to our new address. The new movers took the old mattress away and Skinny Wimps said they would pay for it. We have still not finished going through everything to see if the first movers who abandoned our job have stolen anything. We have broken furniture an entertainment center and my wife's dresser. With no runners, the new movers had to walk on our newly cleaned carpet in our new home as the runners we bough were the wrong ones. Movers didn't tell us specifics. Said all we want is a healthy resolution that these employees who you said have worked for you before are your responsibility and they destroyed my family's experience of moving into our new home. We request a full refund of what we paid Groupon, the the additional fee we paid Skinny Wimps, the replacement cost of our ruined dresser and entertainment center, and our carpets. Update: I've been trying to get a hold of the SD branch manager for a while now, to review my claim and no one responds. If you want to get your issues resolved... good luck! I am so disappointed with the customer service. ----------------------- We've used this company for our first move over 4 years ago and they were awesome! We decided to use them again yesterday and it was awful! 2 out of the 3 movers were very polite. One could care less. I specifically asked them to be extra careful with 2 boxes that contained my China set and the 1 guy could care less, he had it tipped on its side! I had to ask him to not do it. I literally wrote fragile in all caps all over the box. The same guy also had no cares for our furniture. I watched my glass bathroom cabinet fall in the truck as they were unloading, and the same guy said "oh, it's fine." When they took it out, we ended up dumping it. I also noticed the next day that another bookcase had significant dent in it (see picture). I'm so upset that we paid over $700 for them to damage our belongings. We hired Skinny Wimp to help us move, obviously. We came across a Groupon for a discounted rate and purchased it, not researching options in advance. While this is generally inadvisable, we lucked out! Roy, Michael, and Alex were great. They showed up a few minutes early, laid out the timeline, and got to work. They were patient with me while I kept remembering additional items, and were sure to remind me of our plan for time. Naturally, I went over, trying to sneak in "just one more thing." When we arrived at the delivery spot, they hauled ass. They were literally running back to the truck to grab the next load. 3 bedrooms, plus half of a garage full of stuff, loaded and unloaded in 3 hours and 15 minutes, and nothing is damaged that we have seen. My only tiny gripe is that it took them 30 minutes to make what should have been a 15 minute drive. It's feasible depending on the route they took, but a quick GPS inquiry would have shaved that time off. Regardless, I still feel very satisfied overall. I would give them a zero if I could. I purchased the groupon for 2 movers to come and move my things for $249 3 hours. Not a bad deal right? WRONG! It turned out to be $1210.00 plus a laptop and 5 pieces of damaged furniture. After the first 3 hours the price goes to $160 an hour which they tell you. What they don't tell you is that they are going to take nearly 10 hours to move a small 2 bedroom apartment. I have been in the military for 12 years now so this is not my first move. When I moved into my apartment 12 months earlier it took 2 experienced movers 2 hours to load the truck and 1 1/2 to unpack. It wasn't like they had to pack it! No No! Because I had already hired another company to professionally pack it! They took their sweet time. Onto the damage. I signed an agreement that day for rain damage because it was raining. I was told that it was just in case there was any damage do to the rain but they would be extremely careful and not leave anything sitting in the rain. They were very careful! Nothing was left sitting in the rain. However the management later used this against me. Apparently there was a whole in the truck, I would later find out, that was a known issue to the driver. I had 3 boxes that looked like they where completely submerged in water. 2 of the boxes where clothes and things I wasn't too worried about. The 3rd however contained a laptop, DVD player, and 7 college text books. All completely ruined. I thought to myself it will be ok, I'm sure they have some sort of insurance or something to cover this. WRONG! When I called and spoke with the manager they said they would give me 60 cents per pound of the item that was damaged! While that might be fine for a cheap dresser at Walmart, it most certainly is not in the same ball park as the cost of a lap top or text books! What makes it worse is when the driver tells me he knew about the whole, reported it to the manager 2 times the week prior, and it still went out on a rainy day to move my things! They also damaged 5 of the 6 pieces of furniture I have! This is the most taken advantage of I have ever felt. How do companies like this stay in business? 1210.00 may not be a lot of money to some but I can tell you it's a hell of a lot on a military salary. read more

I think these guys are just OK. A bunch of our furniture got dinged up and they scratched our walls and the handrail for our steps at the place we were moving out of. One of our guys showed up late, so we only had two guys to start with. They didn't use moving blankets, but instead wrapped everything in shrink wrap. One guy asked to use the bathroom, but he didn't flush, come on man! (James) They left a dolly in the place I was moving out of that they would have left if I didn't flag them down as they were pulling away. They didn't jog for the first half of our move, but jogged during the second half. We went over our time by 30 minutes. I tipped each of them $20, (driver too). The real standout of the crew I had was Chris Martin. He HUSTLED the entire time and worked his ass off. I read many great reviews on Yelp which solidified my decision to go with them as my moving company. After speaking with Raechel over the phone to book my appointment, I felt confident that all my questions were answered and that I could rely on Skinny Wimp Moving Company to relieve me of the stress surrounding my move. When my moving day arrived, I was greeted pleasantly by four Skinny Wimps (Josh, Daniel C., Adam E., and Darryl), even though I was only expecting three. They were strong, fast, polite, personable, honest and upbeat. What a relief!! Any expectations I had were completely blown away and surpassed with flying colors! In addition to their great personalities, the Skinny Wimps did not damage a single thing! They worked extremely hard and were careful with all of my items. They used great caution and care when placing my furniture on the hardwood floors of my new home. Like most people, I absolutely despise moving, but Skinny Wimp Moving Company made it incredibly easy and convenient. They may be skinny, but they are not wimps! They did a great job with my recent move, and were very quick and efficient. They communicated extensively with me before the move to ask what (if anything) I wanted wrapped for protection and they took care of unwrapping those items after the move. They really hustled and were very friendly! All of my items were moved with no damage or incidents. The office did a great job communicating with me and getting me my paperwork. As some others mentioned, Groupon had a pretty good deal, not sure if it's still there but I recommend you check. One constructive criticism, and I know that this may just be a personal pet peeve of mine. When the "leader" of the crew met with me afterward to sign paperwork, he was literally dripping with sweat. He dripped onto my carpeting and smeared it on my dining table. I was pretty grossed out by it, but didn't feel comfortable to say anything to him. I had just spent a lot of money to purchase the condo and was unhappy with this. But again - maybe it's just me and I chose not to say anything. My girlfriend had a lot of trouble with a moving company she had scheduled with and they were very deceptive. I called skinny wimp moving company yesterday for a move that needed to be done today between Temecula and Carlsbad and they immediately were able to give me a solid quote and book the time. Both Geo and Marcos were quick and professional. They wasted no time and moved everything without any damage. I would use them again and I recommend them to anyone looking for a local move. I would recommend them to family and friends. Diana and I are extremely thankful and grateful for their service. Finding a good moving company can sometimes be like finding an honest mechanic - they're out there, but you usually find them by trial and error. Such was the case with our family. We moved from Sacramento to San Diego last year and used a moving company (A1 Movers) that we found via the internet. It was one of the worst experiences of my life. They were highly dishonest about the price, showed up with the wrong truck, and were continually adding this fee and that fee for boxes and extra space on the truck. After a year, we decided to move again (a local move). We were extremely gun-shy about using another moving company but we had a lot of big stuff that we couldn't move on our own (hot tub, gym, air hockey table, etc.). So, we bought a Groupon for two hours and three guys with Skinny Wimp Moving Company for $200 (we were only moving three miles). I have to say that they were absolutely fantastic. Three surfer-type guys (Mike, Dylan, and Bridger), who were anything but "skinny," showed up promptly, assessed my stuff and quickly loaded everything into their truck. They were conscientious of my Groupon time and didn't try to extend the time to get more money out of me. In fact, they all ran from the truck to get the next item (they finished 5 minutes early in fact). All three guys were extremely courteous, careful, fast, and honest. I would highly recommend Skinny Wimp Moving Company. Apparently they also do Western State long distance moves also (wish I would have known last year). Instead of charging by weight (like the company I used previously) they charge a flat rate and include boxes, pads, and shrink wrap for free. You are in good hands with this company and since moving is so stressful anyway, peace of mind with your movers goes a long way in the process. read more

Skinny Wimp gets three stars -- not due to their actual movers, who in fact, ROCK! -- it is for the Management/Claims Department. Joe was our lead mover and his team did a fantastic job moving me from Mission Valley to Pacific Beach. They never walked, never complained and were extremely efficient! At the very end of the move, they went to put my 65" TV on the entertainment center, and we all (including Joe) noticed how far the TV was leaning over. It was leaning over so much, that it is now being held up with string. Joe was very apologetic, called a manager right away, and delivered the news to me that I would have to call myself. He agreed that the base was not the issue of the leaning TV, but that it must have gotten distorted in the van on the way over to the new residence. He assured me that Skinny Wimp took care of their customers and I would be compensated. After I called twice to file a claim, I received the news that I would only be receiving $50 for the damage to my $1300 TV!!!! I was very unhappy with this news. Again, the three stars are for management/claims, not the movers themselves! They earned FIVE STARS in my book! Andy and Joe couldn't have been more polite, FAST, and accommodating of my many requests to move and re-move items. They were happy and chipper while also literally running around to ensure that I stayed in the 4-hour timeframe for which I had previously paid. They were so organized about parts for different pieces of furniture and electronics while also offering to remove packaging to help me out. This was my first experience using a moving company, as I am concerned about the care of my belongings it can be nerve racking to trust strangers with your stuff. Jeff, Matty and Daniel were great. It's now the 20th of June. Another $33 charge is pending to my bank account. And additionally, Raechel gave me the go ahead to have my Insurance contact Skinny Wimp. She still won't release her company's insurance contact though. Seems to be fairly shady as far as business practices go. However, I had already given her contact info to my own Insurance Company. Regardless of her 'ok' or not. There just has to be a better way to do this. read more

I am so incredibly happy we hired Skinny Wimpy Moving Co. for our recent move. Luke, Modesto, Darryl, and Sean were extremely professional, efficient, and friendly. They meticulously wrapped our furniture so that no harm was done. They patiently moved items where we wanted them in our new home. They offered to assemble furniture or anything else needed. The guys were flexible when we needed to drop off some items at my mother in-law's home on the way to our new home. Best of all, our move was completed in its entirety within three hours!
