My wife's friend recommend this place. While the service was good, the food was generic. There's no other way to describe it, but very generic. The side salad my wife got looked very generic with generic tasting thousand island dressing, with generic croutons, and generic radishes on top of a generic looking plate of iceberg lettuce. My son's caesar salad wrap looked generic and he said it wasn't anything special. We ordered a med 1/2 cheese, 1/2 pepperoni and bell peppers. The sauce was good and I know the dough is fresh, but the pizza looked and tasted generic. My wife said it tasted like chuck-e-cheese pizza. Now I'm not a pizza snob or anything, but for the price (comparable to Zachary's, Patxi's, Melo's) I would expect much better. If you want generic food go to this place. Have eaten here many times and ordered items to-go and have always found the food to be great. The pizza is tasty & fresh and the salads/side items/portions are huge. It's not exactly NY or Chicago style pizza, I'd call it more California style (i.e. meaning somewhere in between the two). But the ingredients seem fresh and toppings not frozen, so the quality factor is high in this area. They also offer a good size beer selection and well as the usual family beverages. They have a large unique dining area with saw dust floors and lots of ambience! They also have a large outside dining patio which is great during the warmer months. Service has always been great and any orders placed arrive in a timely manner. It's good for large groups, families, singles, couples, young, old and somewhere in between! ;-) The location is just off Main Street in Walnut Creek, and street parking is not great. There are parking garage(s) nearby but with the Lesher Center also nearby it can be tricky to find parking at peak times. But go give it a try, as our lack of a 5 star rating is ONLY for the parking situation, not for their food quality. We are very picky about our fav pizza joints, and this is in the top 5! read more

My son came home from months away at school and wanted Skipolini's pizza because it was nostalgic for him. I remembered that we had stopped going there but couldn't remember why. So we ordered 3 medium gluten free pizzas and one large regular crust pizza, which with tip was $155!!!!! We got home and started eating and quickly realized all three gluten free pizza crusts were covered in mold. We had to make other arrangements for dinner after all of us were at the sink spitting out mouthfulls of mold. I then realized that this was ther reason we had stopped going there...a previous experience with moldy gluten free pizzas. I called the next day expecting appologies and a total refund in an effort to make us feel better about having eaten mold. Instead I got a rude "well, what do you want me to do about it?" There was no appology and I had to argue witht he guy just to get the gluten free pizzas refunded. I had to argue further to have the tip returned to us. (How can we pay $15 tip for a pickup order of moldy pizza? The manager FINALLY agreed to refund the tip but refused to refund the large regular crust pizza even though the mold meant we had to make other plans for dinner. When reading this review keep in mind I'm kind of a pizza snob, having had some of the best on the planet in Sorrento (and along the Amalfi Coast), Italy, NYC, and New Haven, CT. Skipolinis does an okay for the East Bay job at making American-style pizzas - nothing fancy, just middle of the road pizza. The basics: Bready, chewy dough/crust - rarely crispy, with an appreciable and not so subtle taste of cardboard. Pizza sauce (not plain tomato sauce), probably canned, tasting like it's been sitting on the burner all day - over seasoned and slightly burned. Waxy, globular, bagged, pre shredded mozzarella - oily with little flavor, and with a chewy, undesirable texture. The service: Okay - kinda like the pizza, but in human form. My last experience: Phone order was botched, leaving me sad and disappointed. Ordered a large, thin crust, margherita pie with marinara sauce - ever so desperate for something at least somewhat reminiscent of the pies in NYC or Italy. Delivered to my door (for $39!!) was a large, SLOPPY regular cheese pizza - see description above. The highlight - the delivery dude was super nice, and remembering my days in HS delivering pizza, I gave him a generous tip. My wife had the prego pizza, and she did not go into labor. It is good pizza- as far as the prego thing, no idea if that really works- no medical proof of this. Delicious pizza nonetheless. When you move into a new town, you need to do three things immediately. 1) Call the electric company and have the power turned on. 2) Call the cable company, as you can't be a sophisticated 21st century gentleman without access to Denise Richards: It's Complicated. And 3) find a good pizza place. #3 is the most fun on the list, because it requires the fun kind of research. My girlfriend and I went to two pizza restaurants and took a pass. Then, one night it was about dinner time and we were driving back from the airport after a long day of driving friends around the Bay Area. Neither one of us wanted to cook, so we gave Skipolini's a shot. It turned out to be the be a pretty good idea. There's a lot of hyperbole in these reviews, and saying this is like "the best pizza ever" is overkill anyway. But if this was some form of standardized testing, this pizza is easly in the top 75 percentile. And that'll get you into any UC school, with the potential exception of UCLA or Berkeley. The pizza, much like Mike Patton at a vintage Faith No More concert, is heavily sauced, so if that's not your thing you may lower the percentile a little bit. But the crust and cheese are really good as well and make it worth at least giving it a try. My one little nit against this place is that it seems to have remnants of 1980s era Pizzatainment-style restaurants inside. There is what appears to be an arcade and some kind of tunnel for kids. That means there always seems to be a population of screaming kids. That's a good thing if you're a parent. Not the best thing if you're trying to unwind from a busy day. We came here with some of our softball family after a long day at the field. We just wanted a kid friendly pizza place and some cold beer. Skipolini's hit the spot. I too was thrown off a bit by the saw dust on the floor, no biggie. Note to self: don't wear flip flops to Skipolini's. hehe We opted for some nice cold sangria and a variety of pizza's, overall the pizza was just ok, nothing special. I guess there's a playground outside the patio, I didnt check it out myself but the kids had fun playing there before our food came out. Service was subpar, we waited very long for drinks, food and utensils. Seems to be the norm here though. Overall, its a good spot. The pizza here is awesome. Generous with the toppings and a delicious crust. No complaints! The service leaves a lot to be desired. Everyone on the waitstaff seems to be very young and they have the personality of a wet mop. Very inattentive and disengaged waitresses who practically ask, "What do you want?" and then throw a pizza on your table and vanish. Had to get up from the table to hunt someone down for more water and ranch dip. Also, don't sit in the outside area unless you enjoy the sounds of screeching children (they have a play structure outside and several arcade games). Wish they would have warned us about that before they sat us there; I'd never seen the outside area before this visit. I can imagine it's good for families or large parties, but we were a small group of 4 adults so it wasn't a good spot for us. I'm reviewing this solely to comment on the piles of sawdust on the floor. Yep, you read that right. This branch's GM was quoted as saying that their use of sawdust on the floor "makes cleanup very easy". Good for them, I guess, but disgusting to me. I dined here once on an invite. Pizza was pretty good, and we dined outside under heaters, thankfully, away from that sawdust. Though the sawdust may be clean-ish, and changed regularly, I don't care to spend good money on a place that feels like I'm in a barn. Or a gigantic litter box. Where the heck am I supposed to put my purse? What if a baby wants to crawl around? I mean, the stuff is like an inch thick! I'd heard about Skipolini's a few times - a couple of people have mentioned the supposedly labor-inducing prego pizza to me over the years. So, I decided to give this "world-famous pizza" a try one evening when I found myself in the area. The decor feels a little, um, like the country--but not in a good way. It feels more like the area next to a run-down double wide than the grounds of a country estate. I'm not quite sure if that's the setting I'd pick for any restaurant, let alone a pizza joint. But plastic lawn chairs don't really belong indoors in my opinion. Anyway... even though I'm not prego my bf and I decided to try the infamous prego pizza with a spinach salad to start. The spinach salad was ok even though the classic Italian vinaigrette wasn't "warmed" like the menu claimed it would be. And, unfortunately, the prego pizza just wasn't that good. First of all, I love cheese - every kind in every way - but the cheese was barely melted and it just didn't give me the giddy feeling I usually get when I bite into it. And even though just about every topping imaginable was thrown on the pizza (with double doses of onions and garlic) it was really rather flavorless. As I am an expert at eating things, I can say with confidence that this is a great pizza place to go if you like something fresher, and more upscale. The Greek pizza is really good and so are the appetizers. Staff was a bit inattentive and I thought maybe the salad was a bit wilty, but 4 stars is still a great rating. It's Tuesday afternoon, it is 2pm, it is unfortunately my day off, so I decide to treat myself to lunch. Pizza and beer are one of my two favorite combos, so what's better and easier to park at during this time of day? The service is super quick. I ordered a 22 oz Blue Moon first and I was surprised at the cheap price ($6.50! That's a great price for Walnut Creek.) they served it to me in a cute mason jar, with one of the best oranges I have ever tasted... I asked for more oranges to eat! They kindly obliged my silly request. I ordered the Baby Spinach Salad and the Skip's Dip. I don't know what they put in the dip, but it is so amazing. I love the pizza dough bread too. Baked so it has that pizza crust, with soft fluffy bread inside. The salad was awesome, but it takes a lot to screw up a salad :D They play fun music, I've listened to Miley Cyrus and Britney Spears, but they are also playing songs from Bel Biv Devoe, Dion (the Wanderer) and the B52's. the porch where I am sitting is waaaaay awesome. i recommend sitting out there if you get thw chance. Granted, I am like the only person here right now, but I have had an awesome time and a delicious lunch, so I feel like the rest of the day will be easy. I would stay away from the kids area... The pizza was mediocre, for the price we could have done just as well or better at a number of places. But the service really sealed the deal on this one. Maybe it's just me but I think the sawdust on the floor might be hiding a roach/rat problem. It's gross. Almost half of their vending machines don't work so when you finally do break down and give your kids a couple bucks in quarters they either come back empty handed and disappointed or, if the machine did work, they come back with a handful of trash. So we showed up here last night with 30 people from my sons water polo team. And the decision was made that there would be separate checks. Bad decision. I have to hand it the servers. They did a great job of keeping 12 different checks going, while serving a group of hungry adults and 10 year olds. There were a few late pizzas, but overall a good showing. I quite liked the crispy texture and heavy toppings on my thin crust pepperoni and mushroom pizza today. Only downside was that a few sections of crust did not survive take-out well and were soggy by chow time. Thanks to the other yelpers here for the tip. I'm occasionally in Walnut Creek visiting family and figured I would try to find something new. I was there for a lunch special. This place is pretty empty for lunch, probably due to their location. I think their pizza for what they give you on the regular menu is overpriced. The pizza is good but it isn't good enough to charge a high premium over other kinds of pizza. It's not a Wood Fire Traditional Italian Pizza, it's on par with a run of the mil local American Pizzeria, and $30 for Family Size Pizza just seems a tad too much. However, their lunch special is a good deal, they give you a huge slice of pizza, some garlic bread, a small salad and a couple of cookies you probably can get at the supermarket. The pizza is decent, and the other stuff is ok, but there is value there for lunch. I wouldn't come any other time knowing their prices, but weekday lunch special is a good deal (I think it's $8.75). read more

I've been to a couple of family parties here. It's a good place for kids because they have a courtyard in the back outside of the restaurant. My brother in law thought he had reserved a part of the courtyard for our party but apparently he didn't because there was another group that was taken the whole outside courtyard. If we would have made a stink about it I'm sure they could have served both of our groups outside. Just a little unorganized. I guess double and triple check your reservations for large parties. The food was great. From the skip bread and skip dip to the pizzas! Lots of toppings on the Pizza. Crust was fantastic as well. Servers were good and we all went home well feed. It's the little things that count a lot! And in some ways they don't do the little things well. My suggestion is to improve the attention to detail. Skip's Dip is ah-may-zing! I came here with a buddy of mine from law school and he wouldn't shut up about trying this local fav dish. I went during lunch and it was pretty quiet - minus the ladies group of 10 in the corner. The decor inside is pretty cool - very chill and relaxed. I think it's a great place for families and groups. Now, enough about the ambiance, let's get back to the dip. It's a mix of olives, olive oil, and some other stuff...whatever it is..it's the bomb.com. I love it! The bread it's served with was crunch on the outside and soft on the inside - basically perfect. I had a salad, which wasn't too shabby. I have yet to try the pizza, but if it's as good as the Skip's Dip, then I'm sure I won't be disappointed :) read more

I'm staying with my very particular 89 year old grandmother who loves lots of toppings, so after looking at pictures decided to give this place a try. Called at 7:50pm for a medium 3 topping pizza for pick up. It was $24 and change...should have gotten a specialty pizza. I never gave my name but gave them my phone number. The guy on the other end of the line told me 20 minutes. I arrived at 8:15pm. And waited until 8:45pm. On the website it said deliveries take 40-45 minutes, I should have done that had I known I'd be standing around for 30 minutes. The server who was assisting me was helpful and I could tell she felt bad. I was handed a small Hawaiian pizza (not what I ordered) so I handed it back and waited for the correct one. She got a manager who was very accommodating. He offered me a drink while I waited, and gave me credit for a small pizza (that we will be redeeming). The pizza was very delicious with copious amounts of toppings which led to a very happy grandma who wants to, "phone the pizza place and tell them it was delicious". We got sausage, mushroom and black olives. One piece filled both of us up so we will be getting an individual size in the future. We will definitely be trying this place again, just hope that the wait won't be as long again. read more
