Needed a place to stop between lunch & dinner time on the way home. Found this place on Yelp with high marks. Wasnt really in the mood for breakfast but it looked too good in the photos to pass up. Ordered the garbage omelette & bang. It was on. Just about as good of an omelette as you can get. The eggs cooked almost perfect with all the vegetables and cheese in perfect harmony. The home fries were the best Ive ever had. No joke. Wife ordered the burger & fries which she thoroughly enjoyed. Keep in mind she's not a beef person. We had just enough room to try dessert & glad we did because it was excellent...Had one peach & one blueberry slice of pie. Fresh, made on premises. Need I say more? Our waitress was just spectacular without going over the top if u know what I mean. Really knows how to connect with the diners. Such a pleasure. If you want great comfort food that wont destroy your wallet you need to add this one to your list. This place has been around since 1956 & they havent seemed to have lost their way. I wish I had a diner like this where I live...The only problem is it would be too crowded to get a table. You just dont find places like this anymore. On a recent drive through NYS I stopped here for a bite. It's just off rt 17, so easy from that view. Lots of parking. It's a very "old style" diner. Booths have Formica I think. Cushions from decades ago and that funny green color from who knows when. Service is super friendly. Food was fine. A-OK fits it perfectly. Prices are more than reasonable. My wife and I frequent the Skylark for breakfast. Nothing fancy but the food is always delicious. It's obvious that other people enjoy this diner too because it's always packed on the weekends. The service is usually top notch - with one server always scanning the place with a fresh pot of coffee! My favorite item is the Greek Omelet - it has tomato, onion, feta cheese and I usually add sausage to the mix to get my meat fix. While I highly recommend their breakfast, the Skylark definitely falls short in the dinner category. My wife and I tried it a few weeks ago and we were very disappointed. The ranch dressing we ordered with our salad tasted old. The garlic bread that came with the salad was cold. The dinner itself was nothing special at all. We both had pasta dishes and were very disappointed in the quality and flavors we got. I guess I should've known better because there are so many great Italian eateries in this area. Saw it as a diners drive-in's and dives location online, so I went in with decently high expectations. Went on a Wednesday night right at 7:00. The place was dead. Never a good sign.. the salmon Benedict was low quality ingredients, poorly prepared. Chicken penne a la vodka was better, but nothing special. Chocolate cake was okay. Service was sub-par. If you're hungry and it's convenient, sure. But do not by any means go out of your way because you saw it on DD&D. I don't believe this restaurant was very good before COVID-19. We have eaten here many times with family and never been impressed. We have eaten also husband and wife together and had the exact same meal but different menu items. What I mean by this is one person over there's a taco salad and the other person orders chili and a baked potato and then exact same thing comes up chili on a taco salad. I know New Yorkers are not well known about Mexican food but you cannot use chili for taco salad that is crazy and not known to be true. You should just call it chili and salad instead of taco salad. We had a bad experience here on January 20, 2022. Reported our experience to the owner on Facebook. He read the message but did not reply. We were complaining about the food to the waitress and she never once asked if she could make it right or offer something else on the menu. She still charged us for the food. Just let my husband sit there and not eat while the rest of us ate. We thought ok, one bad experience wasn't going to stop us from going to the restaurant again. So we went back on March 3, 2022 and ordered something different. We had a very pleasant experience, the food was great! UNTIL the waitress followed us outside (after we paid and left a tip) she confronted us and told us "I don't appreciate you going to my boss about me after the last time you were here and got me in trouble" VERY UNPROFESSIONAL!!! Was on a trip back from camping in Upstate New York with the family and found this little gem. I'm a huge fan of diners and we were all starving and this place hit the spot. Sooo cheap for a great amount of food. It's simple, but it gets the job done. I got the pancakes with strawberries and whipped cream, as well as the one egg breakfast with bacon and home fries. Great potatoes, I actually ate both meals by myself, cleared the plate! My family loved their omelettes, chocolate chip pancakes, and french toast. The Skylark Diner is the quintessential American Diner. It is open 24 hours a day except on Sunday when they close at 8. They always serve breakfast and always have fresh pie. The Skylark is a wonderful late night getaway for college students and those that work the night shift. Nothing hits the spot more than a nice big breakfast after a late night out or long shift. The menu is pretty basic with breakfast, a few sandwiches, burgers, and dinner specials. The food isn't great but it is always good. You know what you will be getting and are never surprised. There are professional diner waitresses that know the ropes and always have your coffee cup refilled.The prices are ridiculously cheap. The only knock I have on the Skylark are: the high school kids at lunch are often loud and disorderly. The Skylark truly is a Binghamton area institution. I feel like everyone in the area and every Binghamton University student has made the drive down 434 one time or another for a late night meal. If your hungry and it is after 11, do yourself a favor and skip the fast food and try the Skylark. You won't regret it. read more

Ahhh the Skylark will always hold a spot in my heart. It's a classic diner and considered a local hub by it's regulars. The fries are delicious, and the blueberry pancakes are great. The best place around if you're looking for breakfast for dinner, or just a place to get a slice of pie and bottomless coffee. Just a warning, the food isn't 5 star or anything, it's good and cheap and will fill you up, but don't come in with high expectations. Some meals are big (pancakes, waffles omelettes) while the sandwiches are pretty small. It's just one of those places you go because you can rely on pretty good food, low prices and a comfortable atmosphere. Also, a great place for people watching. The service is fine, just as long as being called hun doesn't annoy you. Are far a location, it's on the main parkway in Vestal, and about 2 miles for the Town Square Mall. The Skylark was one of my favorite places to eat when I went to SUNY Bing, for a lot of reasons. 1) I love the crap out of nostalgic diners: that feeling like you're stepping back in time when you enter, waitresses that call you "sugar," neverending cups of coffee...this place definitely has that atmosphere. The main dining room looks like it was formed out of an old train car, with an attached "party room" for larger groups of diners. With formica countertops and pastel vinyl booths, this place is authentic Americana, not the sanitized "new retro" style that a Checkers or Denny's attempts. This is the real deal. 2) Open 24 hours, and serving breakfast all day. How can you say no to either of those? When I went to school here, my roommate would study for her MCATs for 16 hours straight, come back to the dorm, and seethe, "I. NEED. PANCAKES." Skylark was happy to oblige, even at midnight. They're far away from downtown Binghamton and the bar scene, so the late-night diners you get aren't typically drunk or rowdy, just people looking for good food at any time of night. 3) And the prices! They definitely know how to cater to a college crowd. Rarely anything on the menu is over $10, and breakfast items are so affordable you wonder how they stay in business with the prices they charge. My guess is, the buzz around the place is good business enough to get tons of people in the door! A few years ago my friend and I stopped here for breakfast on a drive to Syracuse. She got eggs, I got pancakes, we both got bacon & coffee, and the total bill was around $8. There's just nothing like it in Binghamton anywhere, and it's perfect for a college student budget. 4) None of this would matter if the food wasn't great. It's your typical greasy-spoon fare, but they offer large portions of good, fresh-cooked diner food. The best items are their breakfast meals--pancakes are fluffy and as big as your head--and their homemade pies. Get a slice of the pie of the day with a scoop of Perry's ice cream for dessert, even if you just ate breakfast! The only downside to this diner would possibly be its location: it's out of the way of basically everything for SUNY kids, but once you get a taste, the other diners in the area won't compare. And the fact that they don't have a milkshake machine. What's a diner without a milkshake?? (Though the first time I wanted one and was disappointed, they offered me ice cream and a glass of milk, which was nice, but not an ACTUAL milkshake.) I'm taking another road trip to Syracuse next week and plan to make a stop here, no matter what time it is, no matter how out of the way from my schedule, because I love it so much. read more

We went for lunch on a busy Sunday and the food arrived quickly At our table we ordered the bacon double cheeseburger and the Philly cheese steak both were adequate in presentation and portion size. By the way I happen to enjoy a normal portion sizes and do not appreciate when portion sizes are excessive. I have been coming to the Skylark for as long as I can remember... at least 24 years. What I personally love is that nothing has really changed. Sure the menu looks different, and there are new advertisers, but it's a throwback to my childhood and there is no star rating for that feeling. It's your typical diner fare, but I've never had anything I didn't like. I'm a french fry fiend so I'm happy to say they have curly fries. I wish I could offer more stars. Skylark has that cozy diner feel with a friendly wait staff and the best prices in Binghamton. But the prices don't reflect the quality; this food is amazing. I almost always go with either the Sky Melt, which is a delicious burger inside a grilled cheese sandwich, or the Turkey Burger. I have no idea how they make those burgers, but they are amazing. Skylark also changed their french fry recipe a few years ago, and the result is spectacular. I was also introduced to corned beef hash at Skylark a little over a year ago, and I've ordered it every trip since. It's not on the menu, but it damn well should be.
