I came here because of the great reviews while we were driving through, but I definitely feel like I'm being generous with 3 stars. We had a group of 4 who all got various breakfast items. I ordered the eggs benedict. I will give it this - the portions were huge and the prices were reasonable. Butttt, it just wasn't really that good. The hollandaise sauce (LOL) was definitely not hollandaise sauce. I'm not sure if they were trying to thicken it with flour or something but it was chunky and REALLY thick. The closest consistency I can compare it to is probably jello pudding. Now, I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure it should just be egg yolks, butter, some lemon juice, and maybe some salt and pepper. The reason you don't normally get a lot of it is two-fold: #1: It's very rich. #2: it's kinda difficult/annoying to make. There must have been honestly a full CUP of this stuff on my plate. I had to spoon the gelatinous goo off to the side so it didn't overpower the dish (and it still did. it was on absolutely everything, and it was very salty) Now, I'm not going to keep beating a dead horse here, but I would say every dish we got had something that was a similar problem. Of the four of us, none finished our plates, and we were pretty hungry. So I'll give it 3 stars because I'm not mad at the place, but I don't think I'd go back. But listen, I get it. Maybe they're just not that great for breakfast. Some reviews say the burger is good which we didn't try. read more

A 24/7 establishment a couple of minutes away from Binghamton University that is consistent and reliable. As a college student, I went to this place at many different times of the day with the consistent response: friendly staff, delicious food, and low prices. Located on Vestal Parkway, it is a bit easy to miss if you aren't looking for it. However I do have to subtract one star; I ordered the crab cakes and they seemed to be very low quality and not very fresh. In fact, they tasted like some microwavable ones that are available in the freezer at Walmart. Besides that, I definitely recommend Skylark if you are looking for a place to eat at any time of the day (or night). read more

There aren't many diners around this area that can pull off the vintage look the way Skylark can, along with a menu that is sure to please. Skylark definitely provides a homie feeling. I've been going to Skylark non-consecitively for over 10 years... and thats the important part! I visit this location once or twice a year and the consistency in quality of food and service is always above satisfying. Their entire menu is great. My personal favorite are the buffalo tenders and gravy fries. I can always depend on Skylark to be a place I can go to as a guest and feel at home and get served great food by great people... no matter the time gap between my visits. WOW! An amazing diner, a gem of a restaurant in an, at times, depressing place. The first time I came here was unfortunately late into my college career and thus I did not get to experience it more than a few times. But boy was it awesome when I did go! I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with fries the first time I came here-clearly the ultimate test of a diner is their burgers and fries! I was blown away. I finished all the fries and the whole burger, and believe me, I NEVER do that. Usually I just finish most of the burger ad take the leftover fries home with me. And I only $6 for my whole meal. What a bargain! The second time I came I ordered a slice of apple pie-yet another test of a diner, the dessert! The apple pie lived up to all my expectations. Got food for take out a little after midnight on a Saturday. They were out of most things,chili, soup, etc. But, as always, the food was good. The best fries in the area! I don't know why but they are extra delicious and crispy. I had a skylark cheeseburger with fries and a side salad with Italian dressing. I would def get them again! Also, the online menu prices may be out of date. The total came out to almost $10 more than I calculated. Ordered again last night. They were out of chili again. But I had the sky high double cheeseburger and it was delicious! When I called in my order the guy wasn't able to give me a total. I had a horrible late night craving for Onion Rings! I do not live too far from here and they are open 24/7 which is super convenient! I was greeted immediately and chose to sit at the bar because I wasn't a planning on getting anything than my craving. Waitress had my drink and order within a minute or two. I received my order maybe ten minutes later. The most fabulous, superb, and superior Onion Rings ever!!!!! I decided to dip in Ranch. Skylark is the diner where i spent my college years. This place cured many hangovers for me. I held meetings here, dates and breakups all while enjoying American classics. They keep the menu pretty simple. A few sandwiches, your breakfast standards and some dinner specials litter the 3 page menu. The burger and fries are phenomenal and omelet's are a must have. This is all topped off by a slamming piece of pie that im sure Agent Cooper would be all over. The only thing I don't like on their menu is their home-fries, but that just means I have a great excuse to go for the fries. Expect your standard diner wait staff and depending on when you go, your fair share of high schoolers. Still this is a place that I cherish! read more

Tried this diner for the first time in several years after another nearby restaurant was closed on Mondays. The parking lot was full but we were seated right away. They have booths, tables and counter service. They had a breakfast and a lunch menu with a wide variety and the food was good with ample portions. The breakfast menu is served all day, which is a plus in my book! This place has a real old-fashioned diner atmosphere from the iconic architecture on the outside to the lighting and decor inside. Friends got the gyros which were made with lamb just as their own Greek family always made at their own restaurant. I got a sandwich special which came with coffee and soup of the day. I was able to substitute chili for the soup and the chili was very tasty. Coffee was good. The hostess as well as our server, Bonnie, were very efficient and nice with just the right amount of attention. The prices are reasonable. My out-of-town friends and I enjoyed our lunch at the Skylark Diner and I definitely will consider returning! read more

Friendly, engaging staff who enjoyed pleasant banter; neighboring tables with college students alternating between staring at their phones and complaining about their professors. The smell of all things fried filled the air. In the background, you hear the melodic clinking of freshly washed coffee cups being stacked for the next rush of diners. I had the fried chicken, it was perfectly done; crispy coating, moist and tender on the inside. Mashed potatoes with gravy on the side. I gave in and had chocolate cream pie for dessert. So good! First and only time at this diner. Walked in, I was by myself. Stood there. There was no sign to seat yourself, nor was there a sign saying wait to be seated. So I waited. Cashier helped a customer then walked away. Waitress behind counter ignored me entirely. Waitress sauntering past with coffee pot would not make eye contact despite my attempts. Place was not busy. Staff were chatting with each other. Not a hello, not a "sit anywhere"... nothing. I waited a little longer, almost out of curiosity how long I could stand there conspicuously before it occurred to anyone that I actually wanted to sit down and eat a meal. At a diner, go figure. This place is cheap. I mean, like 1986 cheap. It's also large, well lit and much better than Chris'. I'd say it may also even surpass Rolando's - both of which really put the "grease" in greasy spoon. The problem is that the Skylark is a good 20 minutes away from downtown. But if you're coming from SUNY or all points west, it's fairly easy. I usually get just toast, eggs over easy and a half order of homefries and I think it comes out to about $3.20. read more

I've been here for breakfast several times. The breakfasts are pretty tasty and inexpensive (full breakfast for $5-$6), though they're not exceptional. I went there for dinner recently. I got a chicken spedie salad. The chicken tasted very bland and the salad part wasn't anything special. I had tried the italian and ranch dressing and neither were very good. They did not have caesar dressing. Their fries are excellent though. I guess I would recommend this place for breakfast but otherwise don't expect anything special. If you can make your way to the Blue Dolphin, I'd choose it over the skylark. read more
