Instead of just saying it is what is it you make a huge problem over what is nothing and cause your coworkers to apologize for your actions. You make yourself and the establishment look incompetent. I have to say initial impression was wondering why it was a only about 20% full in prime time. The place was clean and cashier was very friendly and helpful. My teenage daughters both ordered the chicken and waffles. My better half ordered the fried chicken strips. I ordered what's called the 5 x 5. It's 5 classic wings and 5 chicken strips. It came with French fries and Texas toast. The kids came with fries only. We all agreed the fries were not great. Just not a lot of flavor and just mediocre. Even the kids said on their own they didn't like the fries. I was not too impressed with the wings. Kind of fattie and very wet with too a much sauce. The chicken strips were just ok. If I had to pick only one item from the menu, it would undoubtedly be the dessert jar! They come in different favors. Having tried the strawberry cheesecake and chocolate brownie dessert jars, hands down to the chocolate brownie for the win. The chocolate brownie comes in a mason jar with whip cream at the top intermixed with nuts and sweet brownie pieces at the bottom. When you dig in vertically with a spoon from top to bottom, every bite is layered with that desirable chocolate satisfaction, perfect for a cheat-day indulgence or a pick-me-up after a long day. The desserts are not overwhelmingly sweet, but made just right. In addition, I tend to save the glass mason jars for other home uses - totally stocking up. This place is very similar to Raising Cane's in regards to tenders and fries. The tenders are juicy, but the sizes are inconsistent at time, running on the small size. I must say that the tenders at Raising Cane's are slightly juicier with more breading and added crunchiness. The fries here are crispy, but lack seasoning. Nothing makes the bland fries memorable or pop out. The wings are a good size, and mediocre without any distinct flavor. I would suggest going to an actual wing place if you're looking for some bomb dot com wings. They also sell waffles, which I have yet to try. I like the location. There is a porch that is facing the street. With the outdoor seating, there are two tv's and ceiling fans to keep customers cool. In the background, there is nice music playing. The inside dining area also has two tv's and a variety of seating types: booths, high tables with stool, and regular tables & chairs. Service is fast and efficient. I have not waited longer than 10 minutes to get my order. If you're in a hurry, they have a drive-thru as well. Overall, three stars for the fried food. We went through the drive thru around 8:45pm on a Wednesday and it wasn't what we expected after visiting the Hurst location. To begin with, the ordering process was less than pleasant. After we got our food and got home, both the drinks tasted flat. The chicken sandwich was good, but the chicken tenders were dry and bland. I was shopping nearby, and thought, "If they have a grilled option, I'll bite." I was quite surprised when they did have grilled (on the tenders, not the wings). At first I didn't like the menu, as everything seems like a "combo meal" - food, drink, fries, and toast. But then I saw you could sub the fries for another side (I went coleslaw). When I said I wanted water, the drink cost (75 cents) was taken off. Oh, and I went Mango Habanero on the sauce. Tenders were surprisingly good. Sauce was OK, not quite spicy enough, but not bad. First time here. We both got bacon ranch chicken sandwich's with crispy fries and Mac and cheese. I couldn't keep the sandwich together. It was made up as two chicken strips lubed up with Ranch dressing. As you hold the sandwich to bite it one of the strips would shoot out! I don't remember the bacon( that's how Unimpressive it was!! Nope. Not a fan. There are so many different chicken restaurants in the area i honestly don't feel its anything special. Since we went opening day, there were plenty of people but we were able to get parking quickly. They had tons of employees and trainers on site to handle everything from menu distribution, drive-thru orders, cleaning the dining room, and helping out with general questions. The staff was patient and answered questions well. I ended up ordering a 5 for 5 plate (five wings, five tenders) and a chicken and waffle plate. My problems started when i place my order walked straight to my table where my family was sitting and our order of chicken and waffles arrived before i even sat down. I'm sorry, but if your restaurant mission is making everything fresh and to order (they even have it on Yelp as an advert point), a flaccid lukewarm waffle and soggy tenders isn't it. We accepted it because, hey, sometimes when they're super busy they can churn out plenty of waffles and chicken and get them out to customers. In our instance it was not the case. One other thing that rubbed me wrong was the staff didn't bother to explain that our chicken and waffles didn't come with a side. I'm not complaining about not getting a side with that plate, i just wish it was stated clearer since we were wanting to try a little bit of what they were offering on their menu. It was listed on the take away menu in small print but with so much going on it was really difficult to notice at the time. When we received our plates I realized my error but normally most companies will point something like this to the customer especially if its new to the area and hey maybe offer to up-sell an extra side in the meantime. Their drink area was nice and kept up especially considering the crowd they had that day. Since i'm not a soda drinker they had four different options of tea (sweet, unsweet, raspberry, and peach). After a little while, our other plate arrived with the wings, tenders, a side of ranch, slim sauce, and honey mustard and a side of fried pickles (since i had wrongly assumed that the the C&W came with a side so we only had the fried pickles as a side at this point). The fresh tenders weren't much better IMO than the cold ones. The breading was extremely thin (to the point of being non-existent) and there was not much crunch or flavor. They were juicy, but tended to be salty. The slim sauce was a no go. it was way too sweet. The other sauces were okay but nothing to write home about. I half wanted to use the bottles of Louisiana hot sauce they had by the drink section but I just had too much salt going on at that point . The wings were the best thing we ate there. They arrived hot and nicely tossed in buffalo sauce (medium). They reminded me of a pluckers wing but slightly less crunchy. Regardless they actually had a good flavor and were a nice size. The side of fried pickles were a complete no go for our table. They arrived hot and crispy with a nice breading, however the pickles themselves had an odd flavor and were also way too salty. We had someone come and ask us how everything was during our first bite but was otherwise left alone or i may have addressed the issues at the time but we didn't really have too much of an opportunity the rest of the time. Otherwise, they had tons of employees on hand which made everything seems to flow well in terms of getting customers moving through. There's plenty of parking. Seating is plentiful inside and out and they have some large screens around the dining room so you can watch the game, etc. My meal was to me underwhelming and I'd honestly be reluctant to come back. The waffle is in the shape of Texas which is pretty awesome! Comes with butter and maple syrup. The boyfriend ordered a chicken wrap. Both our chicken we ordered grilled. His wrap was delicious! I saw the fridge filled with desserts in mason jars and it was a must for me to get one. I got the strawberry cheesecake! You can tell they've been trained well. Keep it up! The place itself looks good--clean, uncluttered decor, no frills. Very nice. The food was GOOD. But not GREAT. I got Chicken & Waffles. That's a bit misleading...and so is the menu description. It pictures more than one waffle and describes it as "piled high" with butter and syrup on the side. Chicken was the star of the show, as it should be. Tender and still moist--both VERY important. The taste didn't stand out. Babe's and Chick-Fil-A both have far more craveable tenders. The waffle was a different story. Excellent taste...HORRIBLE TEXTURE. To call it soggy is being kind. The butter was placed right in the center and destroyed the waffle as the butter melted before it arrived at the table. And there was no syrup. Based on taste alone, I'd order it again and ask for waffle to be cooked longer and everything to be put on the side so I could have a least some semblance of a crunch. So came here on a Sunday after church. Boy was it packed but not so much that I couldn't get a seat. The turn around is quick! The girl at the counter was very patient and sweet while we looked at the menu. She even came out and went out of her way to ask if we needed anything. (I know it's her job but she seemed like she cares so to me that's what matters.) On the tab: Chicken and Waffles with Butter & Syrup on the side with their hot sauce. Three piece chicken tenders with their honey mustard with French fries. All the meals come with a drink so that's nice. You can upgrade for very little but we got standard drinks. The food came out super quick. It was extremely hot but good. The waffle was airy but not crunchy which was disappointing at first but ended up being good because it wasn't too dense and you could actually finish it. (This waffle was a normal waffle not like a cornbread waffle that some chicken and waffle joints have.) The tenders to me were actually good. I'm not a breading girl though, so I think that's why it works for me. I tend to peel part of the breading off of tenders when I get them but didn't have to today. I think there is just enough breading for the sauce to adhere to the tender. I'm ALL about the sauce. Honey mustard was okay. Nothing major. Not overly sweet or overly tangy which to me was a tad bland. The hot sauce was actually really good. Not too hot, in fact not really that hot at all but wasn't overtly vinegary or buttery. Good balance. I really liked the peach tea. Sweetened but not overly sweet and doesn't taste like fake peach syrup. This is our first visit to this place and we really like it. I am surprised to read some of the other reviews. The only thing I guess they maybe had issues with were opening day growing pains, but as of today everything was great! My husband ordered the chicken and waffles. He said it was hot and flavorful with perfect ratio of butter and syrup. I had the slims saad with fried chicken on top. The chicken was really good. Not too greasy. I saw others complain about the thin batter but my thought was WOW plump juicy chicken bites that are not just breaking! If you want mostly breading go to KFC or Popeyes! The ranch was also wonderful. I could tell it was certainly not bottled! The atmosphere was cool too. Sports playing on the big screens and very interesting clean line architecture. I was pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. I had chicken tenders and my bf ordered the chicken and waffles. The chicken had great flavor and didn't rely on sauce (unlike some competitors ) although they do offer two sauces per meal. Those we also pretty good! Honestly the Texas shaped waffle was far better quality than expected, definitely exceeded expectation! Ordered the 3 piece Chick combo with mango habanero dipping sauce at the drive thru. Food came it relativey quickly and the staff was friendly, as to be expected for a new restaurant. Got home and opened my box within 5 minutes and was disappointed at the size of the chicken strips. But all is not lost, the quality always supersedes the quantity(although I'd prefer a combination of both!). I quickly got onto it and took a bite of the chicken, it was pretty tender, but nothing out of the ordinary. The batter was almost non existent, which might be healthier, but the chicken is still deep fried anyway. The fries were well seasoned, and the Texas toast was a little over buttered in my opinion. The mango habanero dipping sauce was pretty good, wasn't overly sweet and had a good kick to it. Lastly, my meal came with a drink, so I ordered a soda to wash down the grease, but they put way too much ice in it, because I was finished with it after a handful of sips. My second go at Slim Chickens and it was a lot better. I ordered the same items as before and this time....it was on point! Although, the Texas waffle is still small IMO, all other items compensated for this. The chicken tenders were extremely hot and tender. Cooked well with plenty of sides to curve my appetite. I was contacted by Max and he ensured me to give it another try. Excellent response from their leadership. I understood mistakes can happen and was willing to give another honest critique. Although, I was given a gift card, I never used it. My buddy bought the meal this time (I ended giving the gift card to a man who had no food on the streets). Better to give then receive. I showed up at this location in the drive thru that was extremely long. I sat in the drive thru for a while with no progress. I then proceeded to walk inside to see a group of people waiting. I didn't put 2 and 2 together and ordered my food and was told that there was only 2 people in the kitchen after I paid. I waited for about 25 minutes and then I had to leave because I had stuff do that was planned and I couldn't be late for. Sad. There food is usually good but it seems they have staffing issues. UPDATE: When I initially wrote this review I downloaded the app while waiting for my food. Downloading the app will currently score you a Free Cayenne Ranch Chicken Sandwich. As you'll see in my review below, this particular menu item was disappointing when I had tried it in the past. However, trying it again today was much better. The chicken had great flavor and was very tender. Seems the food can be inconsistent depending on the day. It's currently batting .500, but I'd definitely try this sandwich again based on the way it tasted today. We usually come to this place once a month. It's in a convenient location and we get lots of BOGOs in the mail. That being said, I've tried nearly the entire menu, and while I don't typically review "fast food", I've had enough disappointing meals here that it's worth mentioning. First, what they do well. The customer service is great and the staff is friendly. Their flavored teas are phenomenal and their fried pickles are some of the best I've had anywhere. Their Buffalo Blues Salad is my go to entree, as it's the only safe bet I've found (though the current size of the salad is much smaller and less valuable than when this location first opened.) Unfortunately, taking price into account, most of the food is sub-par at best. The tenders can be a little tough compared to competitors (Canes, Chicken Express, Golden Chick and Chick-fil-A) and sometimes snap when biting through. I've noticed this multiple times with Chicken and Waffles and again when ordering Tenders/Wings combos. However, the Wings aren't any better. They are large and juicy, but once you get past the flavor of the sauce on the outside the inside of the chicken doesn't have a very good taste. Ten wings with a large drink cost $14, and while the convenience of a drive-thru is nice, for that price you are much better off going to a Wing Stop. When they introduced the Cayenne Ranch Chicken Sandwich I was excited to try it. It's not any better. Blandness on a bun, and trying to dump some extra sauce on top just led to the same problem as the wings with bad flavor on the inside. Raspberry tea, salads, fried pickles and BOGOs are the only reason we continue to come each month. The location is great, but I don't see this lasting very long with all the better Chicken places to eat in the area unless they step up their tenders and wings game. read more
