One of my favorite coffee shops in Houston!! Came here twice during my last visit to town. The place itself is well designed and aesthetically pleasing. I love the wall art of the three animals and the old fashioned looking speakers they have. It's a great coffee shop to come sit and do work, not overly loud, plenty of seating. They also have some board games if you wanna hang out. It was rainy the day we went so we played some candy land. They have food options, bakery & coffee options. I had the breakfast biscuit which is served with a jalapeño jam, it was definitely an interesting flavor combo. I had the lavender latte for drink and it was just as I expected it to be (so good). My friend had the breakfast bagel & the parfait, both which also looked super yummy. Overall I really enjoy the food, drinks and vibes here and will definitely visit again during my next trip to Houston. read more

Location: shopping center garden oaks area Parking: plenty Staff: friendly and knowledgeable Wait time: no wait time at ordering and waited for coffee @5 mins Taste: delicious! I tried the dulce de leche coffee hot and with in the first sip was a big yum. We also tried the crime brûlée and was also a great hit, a bit stronger but definitely good. This review is long overdue since I stop by almost weekly since it is right outside my neighborhood. They're one of my favorite go to coffee shops not only because of location but I just love their coffee, food, and their seasonal lattes. The breakfast is very quick and filling, my favorite go to is the breakfast bagel but if I want something light i typically get their kolache with their avocado cream that I love. My only complaint and reason for the 4 instead of 5 stars is the fact that they are definitely true to their name, slowpokes. I learned my lesson after showing up late to work a few times and started calling my order in, but as of lately it has taken up to 20-25 min for a coffee while the food comes out in 5-10 min. On a Friday morning they definitely need more than 2 people at the front. I don't blame the workers because they are always friendly and warn people about the drink wait time, but that's a little excessive. Overall I hope the staffing situation improves so I don't feel tempted to go elsewhere when I'm in a rush. read more

I ordered a white mocha, medium coffee and got an almond croissant. I was very disappointed after looking up a coffee place nearby where my son was paying football. This place popped up and the pictures looked really cute but this place was overly busy. The line was out the door very crowded, basic mid coffee I asked for a iced white mocha told them I would like it to be very sweet it's pretty bitter but definitely creamy and once I got to the middle of my almond croissant where the filling is, it's gross and cold I'm very sad though I may have found a new coffee place but it was just an all around uncomfortable experience I paid around 12$ for both if I was not stuck at this football game there's no way I would have finished half of it! This was my honest review!! Folk & alternative music supported by unique decor lightly lul you into lazy submission, and amongst the smooth coffee & chill staff, you are invited to relax. I got oat milk for both & it was honestly delicious. The churro donuts were so good. They were not crunchy like a regular churro but had the texture of a regular donut with much flavor. I've ordered through Uber Eats a few times but just recently dined in for the first time. I'm a vegetarian with a gluten allergy, so I love how easy it is for me to find something to eat here! This time I ordered the Monster Mash mocktail and the Let It Brie flatbread. The Monster Mash was light, sweet (but not too sweet), and so refreshing. I'll be craving this during the summer! The flatbread was delicious, the perfect mix of sweet and savory. With gluten free crusts, sometimes you run the risk of the crust being super crumbly or dry, but I'm happy to report this wasn't the case. The flatbread held up beautifully to the toppings. Service was quick and friendly, and the atmosphere was what you'd expect of a local coffee shop. I'll definitely be a returning customer! read more

Unlike the name, our orders actually came out pretty quick lol. Slowpokes is one of my favorite coffee shops in Houston. So many choices of drinks and foods to choose from and so far, still haven't gotten one that I didn't like. I always go for the unique drinks like the purple rain latte (ube) or the iced pandan latte. The plain matcha and strawberry matcha are my next must try the next time I go. When the pandan was still around, I was able to snag it before they took it off the shelves months ago. It was so good with oat and I wish it was a permanent menu item. The purple rain latte it's oat is also very good. I assume the darker shade of purple is because I got it with oat milk instead of whole but nonetheless it was amazing! My brother got the iced caramel macchiato. The flavor was great but didn't really taste much coffee. Might just add another shot of espresso but for a macchiato it was good. There was a lot of seating so this place is great for small talk or just sit and chill but there aren't many outlets or at least the ones that are visibly to sight. I still sit and do work here because the ambiance is perfect and I usually never run of of batter on my laptop anyways since I always leave the house with it fully charged HAHA read more

I've come here a few times to take a coffee to go but today was my first time staying in to get some work done. This place was so calming and peaceful-- absolutely loved the vibe here. Nowadays, it's hard to find a cafe where they can make a simple coffee taste good with a good amount of flavor and espresso. Slowpokes definitely went over the top with the mocha and 'with love' latte. They were both delicious and quick to be made, plus had super cute latte art. Their menu includes other teas, lattes and alcohol, as well as food options. The staff is also super sweet and efficient! They have 4 big tables, 4 smaller tables and a small bar counter to sit at which gives pretty decent seating area considering the size of the place. Save your receipt for their 2 hour wifi access! I went over thinking I could have an early lunch/coffee while I got some work done. I ordered the salmon bagel and a cappuccino. The cashier was talking to another guest, seemed like a regular so I didn't get much of an interaction. The lady who brought my food was the sweetest, young Hispanic girl. I hope she got the tip at check out, seems like she would be the only person deserving of it. The booth I was in was too close to the guests next to me so I overheard all their conversation and couldn't work. Came here after seeing a friend post about it on her IG story. I'm a big coffee person so after seeing they have dulce de leche for as a flavor for their seasonal coffee, I had to give it a try. The large was $7 although you get to change to alternative milk for no upcharge. I also got the churros donuts. On the first sip, the coffee was definitely better than some of the other coffee that I have had in Houston. But after about 30 mins and the ice has melted some, it started to taste a lot like water. Kinda disappointed in that. The donuts was covered in sugar so I can see some people loving this. I'm not a big sugar person though and felt kinda overwhelmed by it. The dough was surprisingly good, however. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place for the value, but the quality isn't too bad and I can see the appeal. The store definitely has a strong hipster vibe and felt almost as if you're not in Houston but in Colorado instead. read more

Slowpokes is one of my favorite coffee chains - and I love that it's local to Houston! Coffee is strong with a good amount of unique flavored specialty lattes (we tried the seasonal cherry bomb and the normal menu purple rain - both great and not too sweet). Seating at this location leaves a bit to be desired - lots of booths that aren't very comfy, it is plentiful though. The food is the reason I keep coming back - everything is so good! Huge menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. As a newly gluten free and dairy free person it was a bit hard to navigate, but for one or the other there are tons of options. I ended up with breakfast tacos and they were great! Service is always with a smile, and I've never had a bad experience. Only downside for working here is that the WiFi is only good for two hours after a purchase so it's not an all day type of situation. read more

Been to the slowpokes on Richmond ave a couple of times and liked the environment so wanted to try a different location. Pros: Basic coffee shop with bakery items, food options and evening wine+charcuterie specials. Good parking compared to the Richmond ave location and ample seating. Cons: The wifi is slow and most sites are blocked, such as YouTube (I can understand facebook being blocked). The wifi is only valid for two hours with a receipt and if you dont use it withing 45mins the receipt is invalid. Which is a bummer and not sure if its a new policy or a policy of this location. I go to coffee shops to work in and wifi and some sites (like youtube to watch "how to" videos) are helpful. While it is a good place to get coffee not a good place to work or study. read more

Whoa! Just moved to the neighborhood and this was the FIRST coffee place I checked out. Honestly, they might have ruined them all for me because I had a lovely experience. Everything was on point: Location : Excellent and quiet spot in a corner of a plaza with abundant parking and a cool walk-up window. Food : The breakfast tacos were EXACTLY what you want when you think breakfast taco. So simple, yet so well done. Clearly quality ingredients used and sprinkle of love. HUGE selection of baked goods from all local bakeries. Coffee: Had a smooth and perfect americano. Can't wait to try other creations and eventually take home a bag for my pour over. People: Is it just Texas and how nice people are here or was this out of the ordinary friendliness? I like this place a lot but today just didn't hit the mark. I came for a quick coffee and breakfast grab and go before heading to the museum with my toddler daughter. I elected this place over a drive through bc I wanted to support local and I didn't think it would be busy as it only has about 3 cars in the lot. Pros: coffee was lightning fast; service at the counter lightning fast; food was above average quality! Cons: extremely slow food service. It took 25 minutes to get a kolache and breakfast taco. They had three front employees doing coffee and I'm assuming only one cook. When I asked about my food, one of the individuals asked me what number I was but I didn't remember and had forgotten to grab the number that was given to me. He seemed kind of annoyed with me. Unfortunately due to how slow the food service I probably won't pick this place unless I have ample time to wait for food. Otherwise everything else is top notch!!! read more

I wanted to like Slowpokes. I wanted to be a loyal customer who goes back time and again and recommend it to my friends. The ambiance is nice, as are the employees. The food and beverages are consistently good. What drove me away was their draconian internet policy. You have to buy something to get two hours of wifi. When that runs out, if you still want to use the wifi, you have to buy something else. If you buy your second item early, and wait more than 45 minutes (waiting for your first two hours to run out), you are locked out of the wifi. I am a writer and I go to coffeeshops to write. I often spend three or four hours at a time writing in a sitting. I wrote easily 2/3 of a novel in Slowpokes (2 hours at a time). But when I ordered a second item early and ran afoul of their 45-minute rule (how many rules and exceptions can a place have for their wifi--was the policy written by their lawyers?), that was it. In a city with hundreds of coffeeshops that offer FREE, non-extortion wifi and doesn't require you to jump through hoops, why have policies that drive away regular customers because you are crazy stingy with your wifi? It's too bad. I will just have to spend my money at their competitors as I begin work on my next book. Seeya, Slowpokes. read more
