Wow. Good, but overly pricef. 1 sandwich os $20.50. Yes you can make 2 out of it, but who knows how much 1 slice of bread would be. And I am not sure if they charged for splitting. Over Memorial Day Weekend, I flew out to Cleveland to visit the Pro Football Hall of Fame and decided to stop here for a bite because it is mentioned quite frequently as having one of the best corned beef sandwiches in town. Was super excited to try Slymans, being from New York and having Katz deli as a staple I needed to compare. Let's just say it was worth it. Was with a few people and had time to kill, so we went to the tavern instead of the deli location. The food was great, service was good too, very friendly waitress. First time ever inside of Slyman's Tavern and okay I was blown away. Everytime I come to Cleveland, my family at some point gets Slyman's and I'm always down. I was not only disappointed, but outright disgusted that they have chosen to serve deli corned beef. so it's been almost 5 years since my last review of Slyman's Tavern and to be honest, it might be 5+ before i bother with it again. stopped in on Sunday and it was dead. after eating, i'm not surprised. i've never been to the deli downtown and maybe the food is of a better quality than here. i just don't get the hoopla over this place. it's fine. nothing more. we went because Danielle saw on their website that they had a build your own hot dog thing and when we got there, that wasn't on the menu anywhere so strike 1. i wasn't going to ask because i can't stand trying to convince someone that their website says one thing and the physical menu makes no mention of it. so i ordered a NEW YORKER (corned beef, pastrami, swiss, grilled bread). it wasn't terrible but it was like a flavor vacuum. i put all the horseradish they gave me on it and couldn't taste it. maybe the horseradish was old. i don't know. Danielle had a turkey Rueben and said the kraut was flavorless as well. we started w/ Reuben Poppers (sauerkraut balls) which had no discernable sauerkraut, were lukewarm and greasy as hell. and shared a plate of fries which were also not hot and seemed to have been just sitting in the kitchen waiting for someone to order them so they could be thrown on a plate. sad. at one time this was a decent place for a sandwich - even if they pulled the best Polish Boy in the area from their menu. now it's just meh. incidentally, while we were perusing the menu we overheard the table next to us tell their server as they were leaving to let the kitchen know her Rueben had no kraut on it to which he replied "i suspected as much when i set it down." so he saw or suspected but didn't ask and said nothing to anyone in back????? some service (strike 2). read more

We went in on Labor Day because the place we were planning to go was closed. They were clearly really busy and not fully staffed. So the service wasn't terrible but they weren't super friendly or in the best moods. We ordered 3 appetizers to share and sodas. The reuben fritters or something were terrible. It was creamy deep fried mush and when we explained that to our server she just acted like we didn't know what a reuben was and pretty much ignored us. No apology. No offer to get us something else. And she was clearly not going to take it off our bill even if we didn't eat it. The latkes were good to try and pickles were solid. Not really anything to be excited about or go back for though. Let me just say that I WAS NOT disappointed. There is still so much meat and the sandwich is big enough for at least 2 meals. The corned beef is so tender, lean and well seasoned. Ate here with some business associates based upon location from our hotel, and a recommendation from another passenger on the plane ride in from Atlanta. This place does not disappoint. The best part for me was the incredible service. The wait staff worked together as a team making sure we were taken care of every moments we were there. Wow! I was traveling through the Cleveland area and this place came highly recommended to me by a close friend of mine. Completely blown away.......speechless as to how amazing the Corned Beef was by far the best Corned Beef I have ever had. And the Pastrami Reuben was killer too. The Cornd Beef was like cotton candy meat that just melted in my mouth with every bite. And talk about serving size the sandwich was epic! So glad this was not a weak, rinky dink little sandwich or I would've been so upset. The fact that it was a generous size sandwich shows that they know how damn good it is. Cause they know a standard sandwich of something so phenomenally good would just piss people off and leave them wanting more. Damn this was so good. Mehhh. It's hard to rate this if you've ever been to the real slymans. But if you compare it to the real slymans it should get a negative star. The sandwiches are considerably smaller and it's commercialized and not what slymans is all about. We took people from out of town so they weren't as disappointed.
