Stopped by for lunch and ordered the corn beef sandwich. Reasonable portions and was enough to serve 2 people. Food was served within 15 minutes after ordering, which was awesome, especially being on a time crunch! Tip: get the meal combo vs ordering a side separately because that will cost more! read more

You haven't lived if you haven't tried a corned beef sandwich, from the world famous Skyman's, while in Cleveland, Ohio. This is the best corned beef sandwich I have ever had and well worth all the hype. There is a reason people travel from all over to try this sandwich. Slyman's Tavern is located fairly close to the hotel I was staying at in Independence, OH. I was excited to discover it - so close by. I've been to the Slymans location in downtown Cleveland and love their corned beef sammiches! I ordered the Corned Beef sammich - but with an order of fried pickles and their fries with corned beef shavings appetizer. In hindsight - this was wayyyyyy more food than I could eat! The fried pickles came out first - and were served with a side of a ranch dressing with cayenne pepper - pretty tasty dressing - and the fried pickles were well executed! Tasty and the breading did not fall off. Then the corned beef and fries came out. Same super stacked high look - but that is where the similarities end. At Slymans downtown - every time I've gotten a corned beef sammie there - the meat is hot, tender, moist, and amazing. This was was not that. The meat was dry, not nearly as tender, and room temperature. The fries were pretty tasty with the corned beef shavings and special sauce. We've been here several times off and on over the past several years and fair to say - we will not be going back. It's turned into a horrible frozen food - greasy spoon spot that is overpriced and not worth wasting your hard earned money on. No thank you!!! This place should close down and a better / healthier dining option should be put in its place. It's gross. Coming from N California I was looking forward to some real corned beef, and came back unimpressed. The corned beef plate was generous and very lean, but was sliced way too thin, was dry, and tasted unremarkable. Great dirty mashed though. And no mustard or horseradish at the table? Really? Robert's Corned Meats in San Francisco wholesales to the best restaurants and also sells over the counter. Tastewise, handily beats Slyman's. I needed a restaurant to host an open house for the Friday night before my son's graduation from Oberlin. I needed a private room and even though I didn't meet the minimum they made an exception. Thurman Covey and his staff could not have been more helpful and easy to deal with. They made suggestions as well. The food was absolutely outstanding! This is especially important bc at the last minute we had a crisis and Thurman had to make it all a to go order vs having it in his private room! Unbelievable food! Impeccable service! We couldn't make it to the original location but I refused to not come to the Cleveland area and not get the famed Slyman's corned beef. I was not disappointed, even if it wasn't the original. The skyscraper sandwich could feed a table and is cooked great daily. Our service was great and when we went it was a fairly quiet atmosphere. We had great food and a great experience. read more

Kept it simple and ordered the regular sized corn beef sandwich. Had to take home half for dinner! I had it grilled on white with Swiss and it was every bit as good as the reviews. Not sure if it was worth $15 though - a bit pricey, especially since it only comes with a pickle. Would have been nice for a side to come with the sandwich without the extra cost. read more

The service staff here is incredibly kind. Our food came out speedily about 10 minutes after ordering. We ordered the house salad and it was so big, corned beef balls, the giant onion rings, and a corned beef sandwich. The prices are a little higher than typical restaurants, but the portions are large. The food quality was good, but the corned beef balls tasted odd. All in all, I would return for another experience. read more

I've never been the original Slyman's downtown but it's nice to have a local branch in my area to indulge in this magical meat show. I've probably been here 4 times and every time I always order the corned beef even though there is a decent sized menu with plenty more to offer than their claim to fame. I always get the "lite" sandwich and still hate myself after it for eating too much. The corned beef is stacked about 4 inches high. Slather some thousand island sauce on the baby and its game over. FYI: check into yelp and get a free plate of loaded fries (which is basically fries and a corned beef with sauce) FYI #2 they also have brunch, would not have guessed that Nice bar section with plenty of TVs to enjoy sports games. I must shout out the most hospitable, professional and attentive waiter whom I have had the pleasure of being served by, Matt. I was so sure he was maybe an under cover boss or something. He gives the service of a Michelin rated restaurant would give. Look for this guy and tip him well! read more

I had been wanting a corned beef sandwich from this venue over the past several years but always managed to forget somehow. This time I didn't because they had a tavern not far from my hotel. How convenient was that? I did call ahead to check if they were affiliated with the Slyman's on St Clair and they said yes. YAY!! I didn't have to make the trek to downtown Cleveland to get my favorite corned beef sandwich. So I went there and ordered it to go. Watching me devour this sandwich was not something for public consumption. As you can see from the pic, the corned beef is lean and perfectly shaved. All it needs is a little mustard and that's it. I have never ordered a reuben from here because the corned beef is all I wanted. I did pick up an extra one and brought it to my daughter who had never had one (much to my shock) ever. I am sure she will be getting them now!! read more

Came here for lunch. They sat us immediately. We ordered food and it came out within the minutes. Service was quick and good. We tried the soft pretzel and it was very good. Hot, soft, and came with dipping cheese. The corned beef sandwich was why I really came though. Pilled high topped with Swiss and mustard. The beef had a nice brined taste and it was shaved ultra thin. That would be my only complaint. When things are shaved really thin they lose a lot of their moisture. read more

It was okay. Loved the Reuben bites. The fried pickles were good. The Slymans Fries didn't seem to have a ton of flavor despite being loaded with cheese and corned beef. I loved the prosciutto sandwich, thought the Rachel corned beef was decent, but liked the prosciutto better. The lite size is still huge. Pretty cool environment. You guys are Sly man, tricking me into thinking you had huge sandwiches. Got the Pastrami melt, came w/ pickle for a hefty $12! Meat was good but only 3/4" high, not like the 2" the server exclaimed. Meat had a bit more fat than I'd like & bread wasn't crispy since it was over buttered. But the side salad was very generous for $4 w/ lotsa toppings. The decor was really nice w/ a full house. Summary: pricey, worth another shot but fool me twice.. shame on me! read more

Pre-ordered a tray of sandwiches today when the food truck was in our area because the line is always so long. So the good, we could pre-order and guarantee we got our sandwiches. Just a little disappointed after all the hype and my past experiences of enjoying the best corn beef sandwiches around. Always comes with the traditional over stuffed portion. However, bread either wasn't fresh or sat to long on our pre-order. I was also surprised for $10 I just got a sandwich and pickle. Convenience - 5 star. Lunch- not so much. We love, love, love the ORIGINAL Slyman's location...but this spot just does not measure up. Not sure what is was exactly, but the corned beef Reuben had a different taste and mouth feel than those they serve downtown. I think maybe they sliced the meats too thick? Not sure if they are using the same recipe for the meat or getting it from the same source but the two sandwiches are clearly different. read more

When we arrived, we were with somebody in a wheelchair and they had the ramp blocked for handicap which is why I gave 4 stars. The staff was nice and tried to accommodate us. We made it work. The place was packed. The food was good had good flavor. The bread that comes with pasta tasted like burnt toast. The server was new but he did a great job and kept checking on us making sure our drinks were full. They had a large screen with basketball ball game on and good vibe. The bartender told us they are here just for a few more months then moving or closing. But if you have a chance check it out you should.
