I have only eaten here once before but thought I remember it tasting pretty good, we went today and ordered 2 Lobster rolls, the connecticut style (hot) and original lobster roll (cold). Cut them in half so we could taste each others and we both were VERY disappointed. I think the cold maybe tasted a little better but they both were very bland and unfavorable, like eating rubber. $25.95/each The toasted bread was the only thing that really tasted ok. Went at 2:00 and had a very hard time finding a parking spot, went around the block at least 5 times, I really wish we would not have found a parking spot as we would have gone elsewhere and ate a better meal. Will not be going back, will eat lobster rolls at Jax Cafe when they open back up. Ate at the bar and the bartender was nice enough. read more

I visit Smack Shack every time I visit Minneapolis and they never disappoint. Great seafood and po boys. I love the outdoor patio seating and music. I enjoyed the shrimp po boy and cornbread. The sandwich is huge and filled with giant spicy shrimps. Fries are perfectly fried and seasoned. The prices are great and I was really impressed with their drinks. Our server Kayla was awesome! Lobster rolls are always on point here. Generous helpings of real lobster meat. Served in multiple fashions. Always check out the featured roll. These have been some of our favorites. Like the Philly or Pot Roast. One of the very few restaurants where my wife and I are BOTH happy with the bar selection. Smach Shack has definitely become one of my favorite restaurants in Minnesota. I've dined in, taken-out, and participated in a Cooking with Smack Shack! Dine-In: The first time I dined in, Michelle was our server and was really nice! She answered all of the questions we had about the menu, gave us some recommendations. We were all over the menu and ordered several items. Every dish was delicious and packed with flavor. All the tables were socially-distanced, and everyone was wearing a mask. It was great to learn of the restaurant's steps to keep employees and guests safe during this time. Takeout: The customer service was great when placing an order over the phone. My order was ready quickly, and they even gave me instructions on reheating it if I didn't finish it all at once. Their takeout process is simple, easy, and safe. Cooking with Smack Shack: We participated in the Jambalaya cooking class. The process was easy. You just had to order the kit of ingredients online and pick them up on a specific day during a certain time. Tuning into the live cooking demonstration was fun, and I would definitely recommend it as a great date night idea! The only thing I disliked was the price. You could literally just go out and buy all of the ingredients for a fraction of the cost. It would even be more cost-effective to order the dishes already cooked from the restaurant. I indulged in the Restaurant Week special, starting with the Lobster Mac 'n' Cheese, which was P-E-R-F-E-C-T. Sharp white cheddar sauce on the macaroni, loads of claw meat, and super tasty, crunchy bread crumbs on top. Ohhhhh myyyyyyy...! Next up was the Original Lobster Roll. Simply put, SO DAMNED GOOD Fresh, delicious lobster, lightly dressed, in a buttery-crisp roll with cucumber and tarragon perfectly mixed in. Served in a basket with loads of tasty fries. Paired it with the Vinho Verde Alianca. It was crisp, bright, slightly effervescent, and a delicious compliment to all the yummy lobsterness. Dessert was a delightful key lime pie puck. The food here is always on point! It tends to be high quality comfort food with a with a beautiful presentation. I love seafood and it always seems to be cooked well here. Some of my favorites seems to be lobster guacamole, lobster mac-n-cheese, shrimp etouffee. If you are not squimish, watch the lobster boil in the center of the restaurant main floor. I noticed some people even sit there for their meal. Definitely try some of their specials when listed. These often are great, potentially new, menu items. Come here on summer night and sit out on the patio. There is a lot of space and the entire menu is served outside. Stay late into the night as well. The bar area seems to pick up with fancy drinks, apps and a wheel of money. read more

THIS is by far the BEST thing I've tasted on their menu and what put them on the map. 2)The Connecticut Roll was also good but I prefer the Orignal. 3) Peel and Eat Shrimp - simply tasty is the best way to put it. We ordered it hot and it was great with cocktail sauce and their Ginger mustard aioli. 4)Lobster Guacamole- this item is a MUST HAVE APP. I don't care if you don't like guacamole or lobster. The chefs at Smack Shack got together with the seasoning gods and made a MASTERPIECE. It's so good my kids at most of it. 5) This one is for THE KIDDOS- You know there are place that just give you gross boxed Mac and cheese or places that make it a little too fancy for tiny taste buds. Pricy but good. The Connecticut Style lobster roll was delicious, and the Cajun fries that came with it were good too. It's pretty expensive at like $33, but you get a decent amount of lobster and it's a filling meal. I tried the collard greens and while they were decent, it probably wasn't worth the $8. It's a nice spot, have indoor and outdoor seating. Good place to enjoy a drink and an expensive sandwich. If my friend didn't pay, I would probably give it 4 instead of 5 stars because the prices are a bit on the high side. read more

6/26/18: Today I am updating my rating to 5 stars based solely on recent interactions with manager Colin, who has gone above and beyond not once but twice now - first to make it up to us (and then some) after we had an extremely rare bad dining experience here and second by accommodating my very needy and bratty request for a specific reservation time slot when I was told there were no available tables. For service that really sets a high standard, five stars. One more less-positive note, since I'm updating today: Sadly, biscuits and gravy is no longer on the brunch menu. But it does make a surprise appearance on the specials list every now and then. If you see it, I recommend not missing the opportunity to try it. read more

It is on the same griddled milk bread as the Smack Shack original lobster roll (which is my fave!) The Connecticut Style lobster roll is on a bun like they serve in Maine. Which is also good, I just like the buttery grilled bread better! The cajun fries are great! Feedback I would give the kitchen for the current brownie dessert is...way too SPICY and too sweet. Wow. One of the waitstaff at our hotel recommended this place as his favorite. He's 100% right. We shared the wedge salad, which was pretty traditionally what you'd expect but done well. The lobster boil, with 1.5# lobster & peeled shrimp add on was nothing short of delightful. The corn on the cob was sweet, the butter sauce was nicely seasoned, and I could have eaten more of just the corn! However the lobster was, as expected, the star of the show: sweet, cooked perfectly, tender, and moist. Huge place, no waiting. We came here as a good sized group late on a Saturday night. Granted you don't have access to the full menu but you do have the Late Nite Bites Menu which had some pretty exciting options. Our server was "Awesome!". He was sarcastic, fun and very down to earth. We enjoyed his company and recommendations. I was not disappointed with any of his suggestions. I am sad I don't remember his name but I liked having him as a Server. The food was delicious though I wished I came here during regular hours to try their menu. I hate to leave this review, becuase I have been going here since they started operating out of 1029 Bar and a food truck. Man, the quality of food and service has seriously deteriorated. Went recently with my family and the Lobster Cobb salads we got each had one piece of claw meat as the lobster portion. The Lobster Roll was 90% bread, fries were cold, and the other dishes we had were just so bad compared to what they used to be. This place was always a go to for us when I was in town visiting. Sad to see it change so dramatically so quickly, and in such a disappointing way. Can tell you I will not be back until things turn around dramatically. All 6 of us were incredibly underwhelmed by the food quality, and the unbelievably inattentive and slow service. The manager didn't seem to care and our waitress was mia.. for the price you pay its not worth it. Was charged for extra salad dressing, they didn't have enough on the salad. And was charged for refilling ice tea.. and extra charges for dawn butter and tartar sauce.. never heard of all those extra charges at any place we have been to.. so sad and a waste of money.. nice atmosphere.. but was not how I wanted to spend my anniversary.. they only get a star because I didn't have a choice.. read more
