I have to add an Updateto my review because I went into this same store and to be honest I love shopping here for my vegetables and other things and some of the staff is so friendly I just feel at home but the chicken not being filled was really irritating me lately ... well I went in expecting not to find any and to my surprise there were at least 6 in the warmer and I was able to buy 2 if them !!!! This just made my day because I worked late and was not feeling like going home to cook. I have to admit I tell everybody smart and final has the best rotisserie chicken way better than Costco and Ralph's !!! Let's see... Party-sized clear plastic punch bowl...check! Black Square Platters x 5...check! Messican Cokes...check! Nacho Cheese by the 100 gallon tub...I don't think so! But you get the point. If you need party, catering or large competitive eating competition supplies, then this is a great bet. I really like this location. It's well laid out, spacious, and the parking is pretty easy. So far everyone who's checked me out (in the cash out sense) has been very nice and I like how easy it is to return things if you have to. Also, it's located right next door to a brand new 99 cent store, so if you don't need 1000 white lace Doilies, you can pop next door and get less quantity for cheaper. I usually make this and the 99 cent store my one/two punch and get everything I need. Then if all else fails, there's a Ralphs in this parking lot too! Have fun! read more

Inept and rude manager Gilberto should be fired. One of their checkers made a mistake indicating which register was ready for the next customer sending me to a closed register. The light was off but there was a checker nearby and I thought they were opening it. I started to place my items on the belt when she told me after helping a customer, that should have been me, that it wasn't open indicating the light was off (like I was the idiot). I said that it was stupid that to have indicated the wrong register and that I was going to need help as I had a lot of heavy items. Instead of helping me move the items she went to complain about ME and refused to ring my items. Another checker rang them while Gilberto bagged them and treated me as if I was the one who was wrong. Note to corporate: The customer is always right when the employee did something wrong. read more

This particular Smart & Final is clean and well maintained in it's own right. Meanwhile, North Hollywood is a trip. You have the decent and quiet parts. And then you have the ghetto parts that are chock full of thieves, bums, some gangs, transients, dirty-ass streets, and other elements of hood living. This particular Smart & Final (S&F) is in a part of North Hollywood that's kind of ghetto. And so in turn because of the hood surrounding this store, you get a workforce that be sneakily watching all it's patrons like a hawk through walk-arounds by store employees, by managers, or security and store managers watching customers through closed-circuit security TV. Personally I just shop here, but I do pay attention to stuff going on around me whenever I shop somewhere. read more

I don't usually leave reviews for a grocery stores but I really felt compelled to leave one for here. This really is one of my favorite places to shop! Not only are all the shelves usually filled with great Items,, it's normally pretty organized and there's a wide variety of things that you are looking for. But the most important thing here is the customer service: every single employee here is so kind, thoughtful and helpful. For example: today I forgot my 10% off coupon that I got in the mail and GENESIS, the associate at the register went to three different registers to help me get this coupon. I've never seen service like that and it really makes me happy to come here. All the cashiers here are consistently nice, kind, and respectful and helpful. Two weeks ago, my dad told me he wanted to go to Smart & Final. I try to be a good daughter, and not scoff at my dad when he wants me to take him to places that I find ridiculous. I know it must be hard for him, not being allowed to drive anymore, so I try not to be a brat. When he insisted we go to Smart & Final, I couldn't help but refuse, as every Smart & Final I've ever been to has been small, dirty, dimly lit and crowded with the over 75 set, who are invariably banging oversized shopping carts into everyone unlucky enough to find themselves at Smart & Final. So in the interest of being a good daughter, I acquiesced, and we stopped by Smart & Final on the way back from Kaiser today. I have never, ever seen such a nice location of this chain store! It was big, clean and spacious, and populated by customers under the age of 75. Even better, they had a ton of produce, and it was really cheap! 79 cents a pound for red grapes :) yay!! It basically looked like a regular supermarket, only cheaper than Ralphs and cleaner than Food 4 Less. I'm moving to this area really soon, and I will certainly be back! read more

My review would be a 3 stars at best, but you guys hired a guy who's nametag says Robert- and I can tell you that he is most definitely a keeper. I have had some ok experiences, and I have also had some downright pathetic cashiers & staff at this location, but Robert seems to get people, and knows how to treat folks respectfully. This dude is going places. I don't just mean like a manager at the store soon- I mean he is climbing a really tall ladder, and not even breaking a sweat. Appreciate him, because I do-and I am sure I am not the only one that has noticed. Robert-if you are reading this-keep moving forward, you are awesome! Another one of my favorite markets to shop! I used to always go to Smart & Final where I used to live and this place made it feel just like home. Clean inside, friendly staff, and good prices for good quality produce and other items. Also, if you need some bulk items, this place beats Costco for sure. Ps, this is my 2nd time stopping by, location a bit further for where I live but I don't mind the drive, parking lot is huge. I'll be back again soon! :) read more

Great alternative to Costco when you need to buy a large quantity of stuff. We used Smart and Final quite a bit for our wedding back in December as some of the prices on things such as cups and napkins ended up cheaper than Costco. Only deducted one star as this place gets kind of iffy during the evening, especially when there are quite a few homeless people walking around the dark corners of the parking lot. read more

This location used to suck. The neighborhood is seedy, the parking lot is home of the North Hollywood Shoot Out, and the inside was lackluster. Thankfully, they have recently remodeled and what a difference a few coats of laminate and paint make! This Smart and Final isn't just a good alternative to Costco/Gordon Food Services when it comes to restaurant supplies and bulk items - they also have grocery store quality selections of food, produce, dairy, and frozen foods. As I'm standing here in line I decided to leave a bad review because this shouldn't be happening. There were two lanes open, one was 10 items or less. That line was empty, and she would absolutely not take anyone with more then 10 items, even though her lane was dead. The other line was having an issue so it was backed up with 4 people in front of me. I stood there for over 5 minutes without moving. The 10 stayed empty until one person with more then 10 items tried to go in and was turned away. Lucky for her, another checker grabbed her and opened up his lane while we continued to stand there, not moving. The people in front of me were waiting even longer then I was with no acknowledgement, no apologies, no I'm sorry for the wait, we'll be right with you. Managers at this smart and final are idiots. They open two new lines and brought over the very last people waiting in the other lines. I had three items and she took the two big carts that were behind me while I already had two full carts ahead of me. Very little common sense and customer service. They have a huge selections in large package for restaurants and big families. The staff got an attitude problem not that friendly when we went there to check out. She might hate her job for being rude. We always go here for big laundry detergent and basics stuff, that we need from our house. It's a block away from sears in laurel canyon. Fruits and vegetables are good, they have a various selections of meat in large portions as well as the coffee and creamer. They have points card if you are member of it. Especially Sandra! She was mean since day 1, never made me feel welcome! Fantastic store! As a long time crunchy type gal, I was so pleasantly surprised to find such a great selection of healthy items that I usually have to hustle to TJs or Whole Paycheck for! By healthy I mean large selection of sprouted grain & gluten free breads, pastas and pizzas, beyond that of even TJs. They are frozen though. Speaking of frozen, the selection of pre made is outstanding and Interesting. I highly recommend stopping in for a lazy dinner night. Take notice of the exciting Indian options. Additionally, they have an above decent selection of bulk items.. There's a section devoted to Bob's Red Mill brand coconut flour, coconut sugar and various alternative healthier grains and sweeteners. They carry wild caught seafood sometimes/not always and of course they offer the usual grocery items and hefty sizes for which Smart & Final is known for. Management and Staff are helpful, friendly and make sure you find what you need. Even though they share the parking lot with Ghetto Ralph's as we call it and 99cent store, they manage to keep those shopping carts clean and in their appropriate spots. This is a very BIG deal! If you've been to those stores than you know what I'm talking about. (I wasn't afraid to put my kid or food in it:) My only complaint is the lack of organic produce. I was only able to find organic bananas. Overall this store has a large easy to navigate layout, it's orderly, clean and I can't believe it took me so long to go in there. read more

I was in NOHO (hee hee) for my FREE Supercuts hair cut and I looked around for stuff to do in the area. I could stock up on beer at Smart and Final! My Gman would approve! And, what? there's a .99c store next door?! Oh Yeah! So I loaded up on cases of Heine and also hit up the bulk bins. Bulk Bins? Smart & Final? Yep! I was stoked! They were clean and well stocked. Apparently this store has undergone a recent remodel and this was part of it. (I wish the downtown one had this, but with all the homeless going in and out I wouldn't trust it!) Anyway, I got Dark Chocolate covered pretzels! YEAH!! Almond Flour, exciting! Jalepeno pistachios for the man, he totally approved. Brown basmatti rice and..... one more thing I can't remember. Good prices and you can just get a small amount of stuff to try! YEAH! I was there on Friday July 11 and the checker was super friendly and she clued me in on the remodel. Thank you and I'll be back! Great selection of gluten-free pizza & bread and booze. That's about it...It's not as inexpensive as they are touted to be however, beware.

Well it's a bit frustrating shopping here. I decided to give this place another chance, but once again I was let down. How can you be out of first street gallon milk your own label at 8am this morning. I asked the person in charge of that dept. Andy and he said it's out and was coming later. My Fourth of July experience was horrible and I should have known not to come back to this place. With Labor Day around the corner I suggest you don't come shopping for deli stuff. I'm including some pictures of there deli department on July 3rd a day before 4th of July when there add just started. I walked in there thinking I was going to get some great deals the first day of there opening add for 4th of July. They did not have anything in stock .99 cents hot dogs were out! Potato salad, macaroni salad, guacamole,salsa, large packs of cheese all the essentials for a holiday barbecue. Who puts this people in charge? When I asked Andy when this stuff would be coming, his responds like today it's coming on the load. Problem was for 4th of July the load was coming on Friday a day after the 4th oJuly.I obviously needed this items for 4th of July and not after! Surprisingly a nice & clean store, cheaper than expected

I have been living in the neighborhood for about 20 years, know the place very well before and after got remodeled. The staff is always great. I know Walter & Manny and both seem to team up pretty good in order to provide an excellent customer service. Great place to shop for my home & business. Really great store that offers a lot of great selection for great bulk prices. Right around the corner which makes it really convenient.

My mom went to return something, the cashier was very rude. On top of that, their manager was there and did nothing. This was my mom's first time returning something back and they made the experience horrifying. They lectured her and acted like they were doing her a favor by returning the items. While my mom was there, she purchased a case of water. My mother had cancer and one of the side effects of the chemo is numbness in her hands so she can't lift heavy items. When she asked help for them to pick up the case to just put in the cart, the cashier refused. The manager was standing right there and when my mom said "great service", the manager said "this is it!" When my mom asked for their name to complain, they refused to give it. When she said, she was going to write a bad review on them, they said "go ahead". If management is reading this, they were working on Saturday December 20, 2013 at around 4pm. All the staff there were rude and obnoxious. If this kind of service continues, I don't know how you will stay in business. People are forgetting that the customer is what makes your business a success. What gives employees the right to treat customers like crap. Management better do something about this and soon cause I'm already telling people to avoid this location. read more

I have been going to this store last 11 years, today it was horrible experience. Picked up some veggies, the clerk at cash counter was annoyed because she did not know the codes, then rudely asked if I needed bags while I had them right infront her, it seemed like she was bothered. It ticked me off as I myself is in retail business. I asked her if the store manager was available, she pointed to me to few other clerks who were females. I stood there and checked the receipt and located store manager's name who is a male. I called on the phone number listed and the person picked up the phone was really rude, She said store manager not here and I requested for his voice mail, she said no voice mail is available. This is the store I have spent thousands of dollars shopping last eleven years!!!! What should I say. I will leave my ph no, see if the store manager gives a hoop about his store- 213 842 1048.
