I really wanted to try Smashburger before leaving LA, but I never got around to it. I was downright ecstatic when I heard that not one, but two locations were going to open in the Triangle area. Now, both locations are rather inconvenient for me, but omg Smashburger! Smashburger centers around the idea that the patty of a burger should be well-seasoned. They accomplish this perfect level of seasoning by smashing the patty and then using their lovely seasoning blend. I've had the privilege of trying most menu items, and my favorite is the Truffle Mushroom Swiss Burger - truffle mayo, sauteed crimini mushrooms, and Swiss cheese. "Truffle oil can make doo doo taste good." - Lil Jon. While I don't quite have Lil Jon's experience with doo doo, I am a big fan of the taste of truffle oil. Mushrooms and Swiss make any burger awesome, and the truffle oil takes the burger over the top. Burger patty sizes are comparable to Five Guys', possibly smaller than Char-Grill's, and probably about 3-4 times the size of BurgerFi's. The chicken is as formidable as the burgers, and the salads are absolutely huge. Smashburger has many quality sides to go with their quality burgers. Their Smashfries are fried in olive oil and rosemary. My favorite, however, has to be their buffalo fries. They are tossed in Frank's Red Hot in seasoning form and served with ranch dressing. These are tasty, and worthy of the "buffalo" name, but probably not worthy of the upcharge over regular Smashfries. Tastes differ. Still, I'm disappointed in my fellow Yelpers for their low ratings of this place. Smashburger is very good, and I'd highly recommend everybody to try it for themselves. If this place were either closer to me, or had slightly lower prices, then I'd probably weigh 500 pounds by now. Smashburger rules the higher priced, no-waiter-service tier of burgers. Food is good , they are short staffed but they more than make up for it ! Brussel sprouts ... amazing

My first time here and I got to try quite a lot tastes. My fav burgers were the BBQ, Bacon & Cheddar: BBQ sauce, applewood smoked bacon, cheddar & haystack onions on an egg bun. And second place goes to the............ Carolina Chili Burger: Beefy chili, American cheese, chopped yellow onion, Duke's Mayo & coleslaw on a pretzel bun. Both of these burgers are beyond yummy. I also loved the chili fries. I had never had them before anywhere and these were just so tasty, I couldn't stop eating them. Lastly the shakes were also heavenly. The cookies and cream, and the caramel and salt were hands down favorites of mine. All in all I love this new restaurant. The prices are so reasonable, the staff is friendly and the restaurant is sparkly clean (it's new). I was excited to hear that Smashburger opened in one of my favorite shopping plazas in Raleigh (shout out to TJ Maxx and Home Goods). Initial impression is that the space is modern, comfortable, clean, but the floor is slippery. The menu seems to have something for everyone, including vegetarian and gluten free and the price point is good. I ordered the Truffle mushroom Swiss crispy chicken with a side of Smash fries (which cost extra). To start, the chicken filet was overcooked and the toppings, a spoonful of mushrooms and a small square of Swiss, were lost on the bun. The buns are grilled in butter and it was too much, it actually dripped while I was eating it. The Smash fries had a perfect balance of garlic and Rosemary, but were very greasy, almost too greasy to eat. By the end of my meal, there was a puddle of grease on the bottom of the bowl they were served in. With any new restaurant the opening struggle is real. Here the staff is clearly new and you couldn't help but notice because they were so loud.There was one guy servicing the dining room, sweeping and talking to customers, while the rest hung around both sides of the register, at one point two were hugging and having some sort of moment. Overall, I found the food to be mediocre and greasy and the overall experience to be below average. I may give Smashburger another shot since it's new and it's in a plaza I frequent, but I'll order carefully. read more

First impressions. It's 2 pm, so not the hype of the shift. Walk in and are greeted. Lady working register seemed a little laissez-faire and ready to get off work. After ringing us up, she shouted, "ugh, I can't believe it's not 3 o clock yet." She was ready to go home and it showed to the whole restaurant. Food: burger and fries were great. Meat was moist but still a little chewy. Well done burger is the way they're done here. The normal bun (egg bun) is fantastic! Soft and slightly sweet to the palette. Smashburger is a fun concept that has just recently come to North Raleigh. It's a sit-down burger spot that features hot, fresh and tasty burgers and fries with premium ingredients plus table service. The burgers are juicy, well cooked and nicely presented. The fries I tried were the Smashfries, tiny little shoestrings intensely flavored with oregano and served hot and crisp. Other offerings include grilled chicken, salads and home spun shakes. It's a notch above your average burger joint, with premium ingredients and fast, friendly tableside service. While it seems to be popular with families and kids, it would also be a fun date night during less noisy times of the evening, and they are open till 10PM. It isn't fine dining, but it's got all the ingredients a good burger joint needs to deliver what you want in a fast casual meal. Overall do recommend. One important caveat is that they consistently get orders wrong. ALWAYS check your food especially if you have an allergy or dietary restriction, as they have a near 100% track record so far of putting things in my order I asked to have left off. I advise steering away from the chicken as the sandwich portions are paper thin. Not much chicken at all in comes in an $8 burger, which is pretty sad. Smashburger is really a 3.5 to me but that's close enough to 4 stars to round up. It is really yet another burger joint in the triangle. I usually go with the make-my-own option to keep it simple: chipotle bun with lettuce, tomato, ketchup, fried egg, pepper jack cheese with a side of smash fries. I like that they keep their menu simple with a few signature options and then the make-your-own option. I've always had good service here that was prompt and efficient. The food is always fresh--juicy burgers with fresh veggies and crunchy shoestring fries. However, it's not anything special. Nothing would prompt me to pick smashburger over five guys or elevation burger or even red robin. It doesn't stand out, but it serves its type of food well. The coupon was buy one get one free entree, an entree is basically just a burger, no fries or a drink with it. We went in on a Friday night and the line was super long, past the door. They only had one girl manning the register, would have made more sense to have two. But I'm also guessing the kitchen can only go so fast so it might not have shortened the amount of time it took to get your food. I'm a sucker for a classic burger, so I went with the classic Smashburger and just subbed raw onions with grilled onions. My husband got the bacon bbq burger, his usual go to burger anywhere he goes. We also added in an order of the Smash fries, which are fries tossed in olive oil, rosemary, and garlic. The fries themselves are your standard frozen fries, but with those topping additions they were quite tasty. The classic burger was also really good, I thought the patty was delicious and the toppings were great. We also ordered a chocolate peanut butter milk shake which we enjoyed. It's on the menu for a limited time although it seems like it would be easy enough to keep it on the menu year round. Waited over 10 minutes to order, should have taken this as an omen. After waiting over 25 minutes we went to the register to get a refund. The cashier couldn't get the refund to go back on the credit card so se said she could give me cash. Well, after a long while she admitted they didn't have enough cash. SO many choices, but that's a good thing! I chose the Avocado Club. Thankfully, my parents ordered fries & I was able to eat some. :) The burger was fabulous. It was juicy & cooked nicely. This place is very original. It's a place to have a distinctive burger. The service is great. We had a nice experience. Ashley who was new took great care of us. She was friendly and very knowledgeable. The burgers and smashed fries were pretty good. We tried the truffle mushroom swiss it was very rich. Came in for Tuesday dinner at 8pm with family. You go on line at the right get a menu and go to the one cashier and order. She was nice and patient enough but with the choices it can take time for a new patron and easily hold the line. They have a burger or chicken Patty choice. Aside from burgers they have salads. The price for 5burgers 2 sodas and 2 shakes for $56. You can make ur own burger for $4.69 and $1 for each addition of egg or mushrooms. Shakes are made with Haagen Dazs which was very good. The place is messy the bathroom the tables and floors and the cushion leatherette are peeling and cracking. The burger is tasty and juicy if you order a big burger it will be wider than the bun. I've been here a few times but it's my latest visit that stood out. I had ordered the smash fries (which are awesome) with my burger but regular fries came out. Apparently there was a glitch in the system or something because the ticket they had showed regular fries, while mine clearly said smash fries. I told the manager not to worry about it (as I like the regular fries too) but shortly into my meal she came back with an order of smash fries and a to-go box so I could take them with me. She said she didn't want me leaving disappointed. I really wasn't that worried about it but that's a manager who wants repeat business. Our visit wasn't the best. Part of the issue was service related but that's understandable when a restaurant first opens so I won't ding them for that. The food was mediocre and appeared to have been thrown together quickly. My wife ordered the avocado chicken sandwich with the veggie "fries" and I ordered the buffaloe and bleu cheese burger with smash fries and an Oreo shake. My wife's food came out in a reasonable amount of time. However I had to wait longer on mine. When it arrived it was just the burger so I had to wait several more minutes for my fries, then an even longer wait for my shake. Eating a spicy burger with no type of "beverage" isn't ideal. Several employees did check on us to make sure we had everything. One server offered to get a fork for us but we declined and retrieved the fork ourselves since the server was walking around with her finger in her ear. Not very appetizing read more

I like it. I was expecting sky high prices but for me this was cheapppp. The smash burger in LA Live is literally $10 a burger and they jack the prices up more during lakers games and events. I got the bacon burger and my grandfather got the baja burger without guac. I can not comment on the service because, as usual, I got to go. However they were fast and the online ordering system was a breeze. To me, the size of a regular burger was MORE than enough. (This is coming from the girl who can barely finish a single party burger at in n out). My bacon was not too crispy or chewy. The toppings were fresh and not over powering. My grandfather said his burger was cooked well and the jalapeños added a nice bite. I enjoyed my fries. Tho I wish they were thicker. The fries taste good dipped in smash sauce and chipotle mayo. But the thing I'm focusing on here is that I strongly support their presence in the Falls Village lot. The area has essentially been supported by mainstays like RaleighWood and Red Hot & Blue, so I encourage everyone to swing by the area and stop by Smashburger.
