Well I was completely surprised to have located a diamond in the sea of restaurants in Dayton is what I shall call this place. This restaurant completely amazed me. We made reservations several weeks ago and they were able to accommodate a party of four with proper social distancing. This was two days before Valentine's Day. The ambiance was fantastic with moderate noise levels and the decor was decorated as a boathouse befitting of the name of this place. Super quant and fun atmosphere for a friends gathering or a romantic evening out. From the drink menu to the dinner menu showed a variety of dishes that would accommodate a group of varying palettes. I would have to say their wine selection could have been broadened a little more considering they only had limited selections of red wines by the glass. But they did however impress me with their fancy house of flair on their martinis. The bartender did an excellent job of creating a strawberry chocolate martinis which was not only delicious but very well executed in appearances. The food we ordered was excellent to say the least. Hat off to the chef for creating great dishes with amazing presentations. We ordered salad as, fish and fries, Street tacos, chicken Oscar, and scallops. For the Boathouse fish and fries was nicely done. The fish was beer-battered cod had a good flavor severed with fries and coleslaw. The coleslaw was a little too creamy with very little flavor. Other than the fish was pretty good. The Jumbo sea scallops which was amazing. These Fresh diver scallops were sautéed greens, bacon marmalade and ginger-honey glaze. Served with choice of side salad. The dish speaks for itself and was nicely executed with great portion and flavors. We also ordered the THAI GLAZED SHORTRIB STREET TACOS. It was Slow roasted short ribs, with an Asian inspired glaze. Topped with a honey ginger slaw and served in three warm corn tortilla shells. Nice portion and made with great flavors. This is recommended as a meal. The last dish was the chicken Oscar. A great combination of chicken and crab meat. Lightly seasoned chicken breast topped with crab, asparagus, bearnaise, served over rosemary risotto. The selection of entrees were all really delicious and nicely executed by the chef. The service was excellent considering that every single table at this location was filled and of socially distanced. The staff was super friendly and very professional. Our wait staff consistently checked on us to ensure we had everything we needed in between servings is drinks and food. We definitely were not forgotten despite how busy they during this amazing dining experience. I highly recommend this restaurant located along the Great Miami river despite the 40 minute drive from south of dayton. This would be a great place to dine and worth the drive based on the quality of their food. They also had a private dining room for larger families or friends gathering. This place does not disappoint any diners who want to experience guaranteed good food and quant family oriented atmosphere. read more

Just realized I had written a review of this place several years ago when it first opened & never updated my review. They have obviously worked hard to fix whatever issues they had at opening. It's now been in business for several years & we have enjoyed many a date night here & always have superb service, cocktails & food. My husband doesn't eat seafood but has enjoyed many a good, nicely grilled steak here. In my opinion they have the best fish/chips in the entire region. They have this dish down, and their tartar sauce is so good! Sometimes they have walleye & it is excellent. My favorite thing here is the coconut shrimp. The shrimp is perfectly cooked & so coconutty! I've lived in Hawaii & Florida. Let's face it...seafood in Ohio is usually a losing bet. But this place is a sure thing. I've heard it's because they have a different supplier than most of the other local places. If that's true, then they should work hard to keep their supplier on the hook because it's working out well for their customers!!! Keep up the good work & please stay in business. read more

Very nice and classy ambience on a small bay of water. Food is a bit pricey. We were greeted with a welcome by two hostesses and the bartender was also very friendly as we passed by him. Crab cakes and coconut shrimp were good. Cakes could have been fried a tad bit longer but had good flavor. Salmon tacos and clam chowder were filling. Nice place to visit in during a nice spring or summer day. Only suggestion I have is for the waitress who didn't let the 1 couple enjoy their meal to consider is the perception it makes when trying to bond with friends while at work. During the 45 mins we were there, she stood at only their table for at least 25 mins in total. I'm sure the other 6 tables would have liked much faster service considering she was 1 of 2 servers (before 6pm). Overall, a very clean, friendly, calm and decent place for a semi-intimate meal. read more

Didn't even know this place was here, but we did a google search in Troy and this place came up. It by far exceeded our expectations. We had the beercheese appetizer with their homemade pretzel. It was beyond excellent. We also opted for the standard salads with the white french dressing, which was the best I ever have eaten. Our entree's were great: I had the strip steak and my wife had the Teriyaki beef. They were busy, so we sat at a high top in the bar and was served by the bartender, who was also excellent. The owner stopped by and talked with us about the restaurant and its history, and his history in the restaurant business in Troy and also in Maui. A great experience for sure. Had dinner with my colleagues here this week. The food was absolutely outstanding from the appetizers to the salad to the entrées. Service was very good polite, & friendly. Timing of the entire experience was impeccable with a great view of the River. Drinks are over the top Good. Homemade juices and freshly mulled drinks. I highly recommend Smiths. Boathouse. What a great find! Unexpected in a small town. Though I grew up nearby, I live out west and travel widely. So imagine my surprise at Calamari, tender and tasty and mussels fresh - both with ample portions at reasonable prices. The Chicken Alfredo is delightful, the Carbonara just like Italy and scallop's scrumptious. The owner visits the tables to check on satisfaction and get to know her patrons. And the waitress hustles and had good advice after understanding our tastes. My only disappointment is that it was dark outside. I look forward to coming again at sunset. read more

This was disappointing. We have been dining here for special occasions for the last 3 years. Saturday Nov 4 was not a good experience. For starters the shrimp cocktail had a raw shrimp mixed in. Then the French onion soup was a beautiful presentation but too much thyme. The salmon was raw and the Brussel sprouts were tough and cold. Our drinks from the bar were good. Total with tip was 170$. Looking for a restaurant in Troy for a dinner with Family and found Smiths' Boathouse on Yelp. Sounded good, so we stopped and were happy to find out that they could accommodate our part of nine on a Wednesday night. While they appeared to be reasonably staffed and everyone was working hard they had a larger than expected middle of the week crowd that impacted service. Like I said it appeared everyone was working hard, so no issue with that. The food was pretty good. My daughter and I split the Chicken Parmesan. The chicken was very good, the spaghetti that came with it was just ok. Having said that we did not leave any on the plate. The bread was excellent and our salad that came with the meal was very good. If you are in Troy and looking for a nicer meal at a cool place I would recommend trying them out. We ate inside because of the weather, but I am sure it is a great place for riverside dining. read more

Great place! I'm from Troy. I've eaten here about 6 Times now and it's been great each time. The table side Caesar is amazing. They make the Caesar dressing at the table and they make it a fun experience. The bar is great too with a very knowledgeable staff. The featured cocktails are very unique. This was our first visit in more than a year and while we understand Covid restrictions are rightfully being relaxed, there were virtually no restrictions in place when we were there. Three people in our party of six selected the Fish and Chips for $18. While everything was well prepared, served piping hot and our waitress was pleasant and professional, we were all shocked to find their version of fish and chips consisted of a large portion of french fries, two skinny "fish stick" size portions of fried fish and coleslaw. While the portion size is probably appropriate, it's not much for $18. The others in the party ordered the strip steak (good), chicken Oscar (fine) and Surf and Turf (very nice but at $48 for filet mignon and a lobster tail seemed overrated ). The restaurant was crowded at 6 pm on a Saturday and overall was lacking ambiance of any kind, no tablecloths or flowers just two tiny oil lights on the table. Everything here was top notch! It was such a pleasant dining experience. The bread was very tasty, complimented with a garlic butter spread. I ordered the filet with dauphinoise potatoes, and my steak was cooked exactly the way I asked and seasoned nicely. The potatoes were sooooo delish! The white French dressing was superb! I'm not really sure why our family has never gone here before last night! We were out celebrating my stepsons birthday because he really wanted salmon and shrimp. This place was so amazing! The owner sat us at our table and was an extremely nice man. I had forgotten to get a picture of the food but it was so good! I got the charbroiled salmon with rosemary risotto, and it was to die for. I did however get a picture of the kids in the boat which is a fun little thing to do with them while waiting on the food. Best Clam Chowder in my 62 years! Wow, I just have to share our experience tonight.... We have been blessed thru business and pleasure to travel and eat at some fine establishments over the years. We have had clam chowder from Legal Seafood in New England, The Grand Hotel on Mackinaw Island to Captain Curt's in Siesta Key, FL and tonight, I had the best Clam Chowder I have ever eaten! Not too rich with butter, not too spicy.... Just perfect! This family recipe was served for a couple decades in Maui by the Smith Family (Larry & Sandy own the Boathouse) and it won numberous awards for being the best Clam Chowder on the Island of Maui! Also, Chef Kyle and our waitress Abbey were absolutely wonderful! Covid-19 took the sails out of this restaurant's cooking, meaning the food is not as tasty as it had been prior to Covid-19. Smith's is not the only restaurant that this has happened to. I'm sure it is to cut cost but it shows in the taste of food. Now with the inflationary gouging, restaurants will suffer once again due to cost of food. Suggest buying local as much as possible including produce, baked goods, eggs and meat! read more
